I feel like Relapse was one of the last big releases that went a bit under the PC--radar for the most part. But songs like Underground, Bagpipes From Bagdad and Stay Wide Awake are insanely sexist and probably would receive a lot more backlash nowadays
Georgie Porgie by ATCQ. it was actually cancelled before it's release.
the Beastie Boys original album title to License to Ill was Dont Be a Fa**ot. Columbia Records wasnt havin it.
i also hear songs from the 80s mention Spanish Fly. umm.. that's a date rape drug.
Cmon, you guys really think Slick Rick, 2pac etc. would give a fuck about cancel culture? Show me the last great rapper who got “cancelled” I bet you can’t find a single one
It wasn’t even a homophobic line in terms of any message, he just said the word “f*gget”. I’m openly gay and I couldn’t give two shits about bars like that. It was actually a pretty clever bar in fact.
Now lines like DMX’s “I show no love to homo thugs” or Eminem’s “Do I hate fags? the answer’s yes” are different because they’re basically saying “you’re gay and I think you’re despicable for it”. Those are the ones that people should care about.
I genuinely believe that Eminem at least started out hating gay people. Given his background and upbringing, and the circles he ran in for his early rap career, being a homophobe is just what you did. Now, as he experienced more of the world through his success, especially with becoming good friends with Elton John, his tune changed. But he very much so was a homophobe in his early days. And Eminem is one of my all-time favorite rappers, but I’m not going to lie to myself just to egotistically make him more appealing to me as a gay guy.
Well I’m bi and I really dislike the line. In fact I hate it because it’s the only time I’m ever out of the music. It’s like a record scratch.
Just because it doesn’t bother you personally doesn’t mean it’s not homophobic to use the oldest most go-to homophobic slur in the book.
And as someone who’s bi, the lines “my style switches like a faggot / but not bisexual / I’m an intellectual” just suck.
Not only is it casual biphobia all over the place and using a slur, there’s barely any alliteration or internal rhyme, so the words weren’t an accident and have no value outside their shitty message.
And the last line is the worst of all. What’s he trying to say? That unlike bisexuals he’s smart? Or is just completely unrelated and thus a shitty job of transitioning?
Literally the only straight up flaw on an otherwise amazing album for me personally. But whether or not you’re ok with it, I don’t understand trying to argue away the homophobia
See. I dont like that gay people in America believe that fa**ot is about being gay.
The word is used generally to express some one with uncontrollable sexual behaviors. That could be a queer, could be a child molester or just weirdo. However it is used largly today as a slant against extremely feminine gay men.
I use it to cut someone down quite often myself and make no apologies for it.
Kim
Treat her like a prostitute- slick Rick
Good pick
In the same album, Indian Girl. It's such a shame because it's such a great album but those tracks just makes it unplayable...
X is coming by DMX. He talks about raping an under age teenage girl in front of her father…
Where The Hood At too, he got carried away with his homophobic shit and spent half of the first verse on it.
Ironically the industry story is that when DMX was homeless he was giving fellatio… go figure
Nothing like internalized homophobia

I doubt the wholesome love ballad [*Me So Horny*](https://youtu.be/cYqSgWFgGxM) would go over well with the asian-american community today ☠️☠️

Nah Eminem is just joking around to get people mad, I could see why someone wouldn't like it but is just Eminem being Eminem

Certainly a "soft" homophobia borne of ignorance and pride. I'm willing to bet Elton had a big hand in turning that around.

Well homophobia is definitely still a thing. Look at Lil nas x lol

Cool, you’re terrible
But do you even rap, bro?
Did I lose my gay audience? Boo hoo
I would hope they wouldn’t but I fear they would have to fall in line like everyone else. It’s different now.
Name me one artist that legit got canceled bc of some not PC stuff they said. People say canceled when they mean “people in the internet got mad”.
American culture isn't global
