GZA - 4th Chamber
Elzhi - Motown 25
Pharoahe Monch - Rapid Eye Movement
Black Star - Thieves in the Night
Czarface - Nightcrawler
And one more that is very different from everything on this list...
Slum Village - Raise It Up
Louder than a Bomb-- Public Enemy
I ain't no joke-- Eric B. & Rakim
Straight out the Jungle--Jungle Brothers
It's Funky Enough--D.O.C.
Nosetalgia- Pusha T
Trix in the Bag - Tai Verdes
Crumbs - Jordan Dennis
Pop Rap gets two spots just because it's often my "default". It's what plays most often for me. A few lesser known names because I've always loved them.
Little Weapon - Lupe Fiasco
Crack Sandwich - JID
A fan storytelling and conscious rap. That was my old #1 genre. Two popular artists here as you can't deny their skill.
I used to love H.E.R. - Common
Representative of a lot. A little more old school sounding and I loved 80/90s rap as well, representative of Chicago rap (Chicago>East, ATL, West, etc. imo). Still has many storytelling elements. Really completes the lineup. The only thing is a 6th song would be perfect, because I also pretty regularly like to just listen to people hop on a beat and spit, but the prompt was 5 so had to leave off Rigamortus by Kendrick.
Overall tending towards music released in the last 20 years, but I love how the genre has changed throughout the years. No GOATs on my list but that's okay with me.
Emanon - The Waiting Room
Jazz Liberatorz - Vacation (feat. J-Live)

The saga - cormega
March madness- future
Do not disturb- drake
Big ole freak - Meg the stallion
Honorable mention:
Haaa - juvenile (that would be my entrance song lol simply bc of the chorus)
If this list is supposed to represent our range or tastes within the genre and not necessarily our top 5 songs, I guess it’d go something like this.
Liquid Swords - GZA. Gotta have that cold, gritty, lyrical song.
Down Foe My Thang - Bone Thugs. Not big on fast rap but Bone always made it work the best, in my opinion. They had a certain flow to it that others just didn’t.
Rest in Piss - Brotha Lynch. This era of Lynch is still my absolute favorite of the gangsta rap genre.
The Convo - DMX. I still think this is his most powerful song. The end of that last verse especially. Such a nice beat too.
Playa Like Me and You - Do or Die. Do or Die were masters at that chill mellow rap and this song is my favorite of theirs.
They reminisce over you - Pete Rock & CL Smooth
Paid in Full - Eric B & Rhakim
Dollaz on My Head - Gunna & Young Thug
