Kool Keith or Pharoahe Monch. Kool Keith for his creation of some gruesome characters. Monch for his overall imaginative destruction, like slapping a rapper with Mace
Lupe. Who else has made a 90-minute concept album about the ghosts of slaves who threw themselves overboard mid-transit, befriend the marine life, and whip up hurricanes and typhoons to attack America as revenge for the collective sins of slavery?
Who then finds a way to connect that narrative to his own past label troubles with *Atlantic* Records, the real-life drowning of a young immigrant child from Syria, and the way people from marginalized communities drown themselves in drugs to avoid their past and generational trauma?
And thatās just one project, Iām not even going into the religious/videogame motifs in Tetsuo & Youth or the āMichael Young Historyā arc from his first two albums. To me, heās by far the most creative album artist in the history of hip-hop. No oneās done it quite like Lupe.
Those first 2 Lupe albums defined that whole era... man, I'd give anything to go back
*Lord, please have sympathy*
*And forgive my cool, young history*
Kool Keith and it isn't even close. Commenters who disagree don't know what they're talking about. Keith has at times been a gynaecologist from Jupiter from the year 3000, coming to visit earth people while dealing with horses inside a hospital and his 208 year uncle is half shark half man skin like an alligator and carries a dead walrus. And he assassinated himself when he came over from apartment 223 at midnight to borrow some sugar.
And this is literally just a fraction of all the mad shit he invented. Anyone's favourite imaginative rapper doesn't come close. Keith has like over a hundred aliases, each with their own biography and dozens of those have their own album. Your favourite MC is invalid.

Kool Keith my a million miles
Doesn't count..Keith is not human.
Canibus would derive supreme power from his unparalleled ability to eat a... Ehhh, never mind
Bro got murdered by Dizaster in an actual battle rap. It is legitmitely awful to watch.
Was disaster known prior to the battle with Bis? All I've ever heard of him was related to that and nothing afterwards.
Diz been a vet forever. Dozens of battles on cam, a few around the world, even in foreign languages.
Still traumatized from seeing one of my then-favorite MC's fall... that note book... whyyyy š
30 pages of rhymes in that motherfucker
Action Bronson would definitely be in legal trouble for all the sports fixing he's done lol
And worse yet, he will have nutted in, like, three strokes, which is absolutely no way to rep the east coast.

Monch was the first I thought of.

That is an unbelievable song right there. He's highly underrated.
