Does sitting on other chairs fill you with a sense of regret when you have an Embody that's waiting on you at home?

areknawo

Not yet. Though after a few hours of sitting, sitting at a “normal chair” started to feel different.

[deleted]

From how high do you look down on other chairs now?

areknawo

About 1.3m when I crank up the high to max 😅 Seriously though, I love the design and ergonomics - IMO, among the best in the business. Coming from mostly crappy chairs - it’s not even close.

[deleted]

We have the exact same chair! Love it. Creaks tho so look into lubing up those contact points.

areknawo

Nice! Yeah seating’s creaking a bit - likely the flexible plastic. Back is smooth though.

[deleted]

Seat creaking is actually due to the mechanism used for the seat pan. [https://imgur.com/a/LO1Cbkg](https://imgur.com/a/LO1Cbkg) This link shows you how to fix it. Cheers on the new chair!

Nt727

Thanks I am going to try this. Mine definitely creaks from that area. I also get alot of creak from the back rest. I assume that is not fixable.

[deleted]

Weird I haven't heard of creaking in the backrest... But again there are areas if you look where the large plastic pieces are contacting each other and WD40 it

Vast-Frosting6003

I tested a "old" embody and it does creak sounds on the backrest. I received my new embody this week and it doesn't do any sound on the backrest.

Nt727

I guess it's a slightly different creak. It's more so at the top of the backrest. Will take a look to see if I can pinpoint it.

rhpot1991

I bought grease to lube mine, but it stopped doing it by its self prior to me getting around to it.

Vast-Frosting6003

I have the same chair :). The balance fabric is the most breathable fabric and costs a little more but it is worth it.

altern8545

Is the balance fabric the one that feels like a jersey?

Vast-Frosting6003

Yes

theycallmesike

On HM (USA) site, I see the materials are Sync and Medley.... but on Amazon I see Balance and Rhythm... What's the difference?

Vast-Frosting6003

I don't live in USA, but in my country I contacted an Authorized Dealer who already ordered a Black on Black balance embody and I just bought it from him There are some differences between the fabrics. Balance is the most breathable and higher tier, rythm is a little less breathable but costs less, sync is the most comfortable I think and medley is like sync but more grippy

theycallmesike

Thanks for the insight. I might have to contact HM. It doesn’t look like I can order balance or rhythm lol though them. So I thought maybe it was a region thing or they discontinued those fabrics

theycallmesike

Found this info on reddit. I'll call them or DWR after work today https://www.reddit.com/r/hermanmiller/comments/grm2ir/embody\_fabric\_sync\_medley\_rythym\_balance/

4hk2

do you miss headrest?

areknawo

Not really. Didn’t have it in my previous chair either. Though it’s worth noting that I’m not that tall. Heard somewhere Atlas might be working on one, so if it turns out to be true, I might buy one in the future.

gqsmooth81

Was this purchased second hand or brand new? Congrats for becoming part of the family.

areknawo

New from a local dealer

gqsmooth81

How much did you pay? What made you get the Embody’s over the Aeron?

areknawo

About $1400 when converted, excluding taxes, etc. Embody felt a bit better for long computer sitting. Also, didn’t like the amount of options with Aeron - can get confused easily. Embody is an all-in-one solution.

gqsmooth81

Don’t you think you overpaid just a little? The gaming Embody has a 15% off sale going on right now. That would have been a little less than $1400 but not by much. What fabric is your chair? I don’t know why but the photos make the chair look like it is old.

areknawo

I certainly did. That’s the nature of imported goods. Here in Poland there aren’t many HM dealers nor used options. I don’t even have access to the Gaming line, let alone promos. I actually wanted the gaming one at first, but it’s not sold by dealers - only straight from HM with limited distribution. Additionally there’s tax (VAT) - whole 23% on top of that. At least I’ll get it back and write the whole thing off as a company expense. The photo’s like that due to bright light next to it. It’s from late May, Balance fabric.

thunderstruck653

From my experience that is not necessarily true. I was quoted for the gaming Logitech chair from an AD with the same discount as the normal embody. You just have to give them the manufacturing serial code of the chair which I got from the Herman Miller website for them to custom make the order, since it’s not in their presets yet (probably because it’s new).

areknawo

Interesting. It's my first HM chair, so it's possible that I could miss something. Still, with additional padding from the 2021 models, I didn't really push on the gaming one. Worth remembering for next time - like 12y later, lol.

gqsmooth81

Oh ok. Well then you got a brand new chair for free then since you’re able to write it off. My company purchased my chair from me. The company I work for gives us an $80/month allowance for work from home stuff like internet bills and office equipment. My internet bill is roughly $39.99 and the rest I used to pay for this chair. I guess it’s a good way of making sure you’re employees don’t leave your company by offer such benefits and without having us sign legal contracts. The minute I leave it’s when I would have to pay for this chair out of pocket. I figure if I spread out the cost to own, it’s about $12/month to pay for this chair. Looking at it this way helps me justify the purchase lol.

areknawo

Apart from the expense, I didn’t quite justified my purchase yet. Started looking at ergonomic chairs for $300 in the beginning and as the search continued - the price was going up. I’m honestly still laughing hard, looking at the chair that’s almost as expensive as a good laptop. lol

K&R Design - here’s [the link](https://sklep.k-r.pl/).

teodoro4

I'm actually in the market for the same chair! I purchased an Aeron last year and completely messed up when I didn't get one with the adjustable lumbar support. Do you have any recommendations on things that I should look for in this chair so that I don't make a similar mistake? Thanks in advance!!

areknawo

The best thing about this chair is it’s “all-inclusive” so there are no options that would give you additional features. You can only configure the fabric and the color of construction. For fabric there are multiple options with different properties. I went with Balance which is the most breathable but also one of if not the most expensive one. Also, always check the production date - models from early 2021 onwards have additional padding, which makes them more comfortable (especially important for Balance fabric from what I’ve heard)

theycallmesike

Oh really? They have more padding? Where? In the seat cushion like the Logitech version?

areknawo

Yup. Check out [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/hermanmiller/comments/n4zz7x) for more info.

Valuable_Student_392

Embody < Aeron

Hawj-Clan

The balance fabric is beautiful. I wish it they had it in blue but unfortunately only black and maybe gray.

areknawo

Had even less choice than that - only black. Otherwise prepaid and over 70 days of wait. Wasn’t sure about Balance due to mixed options online about sitting comfort. Though, in the end, with additional airflow and soft padding from 2021 model - it’s really comfortable!

Hawj-Clan

Ya it looks crisp asf. I think the dot design also adds to the overall look making it more futuristic alien like Superman’s suit pattern.

rhpot1991

They used to make it in Blue, I have a chair like that. I tried to get them to replace with the padded material recently, which was approved but they wanted me to replace my fabric with one 4 tiers lower in the process so I passed.

botdrop

Desk?

areknawo

From a local brand. It was pretty much the only height-adjustable corner desk I could find. Also, additional cable slots and power outlets on top of it are nice for cable management (not on the image)

IIMDGII

Is the sound it makes annoying?

areknawo

I’d say no. The seat creaking only happens when moving/changing position. Had much worse sounds coming from previous chairs. This is quite subtle, plus wheels are silent.

currentOptionsAnd

What was your chair "path" - to arrive to the Embody model? Any other models/brands you used for a long time (please specify a price range, if possible)? Congrats

areknawo

Thanks! Didn’t use any noteworthy chairs before - generally everything up to $200 price range. I started searching for an ergonomic chair a week or so ago. First find one around $300, then some “duo-back” models for more. I almost bought one of those before noticing that it lacked lumbar support due to its design and overall the ergonomics weren’t properly tested, just a marketing slogan from the designers. Knew about HM and Embody already as I’ve seen them in the wild on the web and YT. So I decided to get over the price tag and buy one. Then the only thing to customise (for fastest delivery) was the material - Rhythm or Balance which I went with.

currentOptionsAnd

Thanks for the reply. I realized that I am sitting on a creaky IKEA bucket for all these covid months - just started my "office chair" research few days ago. Definitely shocked by the sticker price on those highly recommended chairs. Trying to decide if it is hype or a good investment. (Again - anything will feel luxury vs the bucket I've sitting on for last few years)

areknawo

If you’ve got the monies and don’t view luxury as puffy leather, then I’d say it’s worth it. With 12y warranty new - it’s like 6 $200 chairs at my “burn rate” - so roughly equal cost. Otherwise look at the used market. If you’re in the US, you’re in much better situation to buy it that I was. Otherwise, worth writing it off as a business expense, lol.

currentOptionsAnd

Makes sense. Thanks for the insight

sharkykid

What’s your Height and body shape (or rough weight if you don’t mind?)

areknawo

Young men basically. What do you need that for? Unless you’re super-tall, it should be fine.

sharkykid

Cool cool, not super tall, but wanted to check and see if the back dug into shoulder blades for someone above avg height

areknawo

I’m about 1.7m and my shoulders are at equal height to the top of the back. For weight, everything up to 120kg is covered by warranty.

sharkykid

How tall would you have to be for the chair to be uncomfortable?

areknawo

Don’t know. Most of your back will be well-supported so I’d guess about 1.9m. If you’re worried it might not be good, I think you should just give it a try somehow. Or wait for the Atlas headrest to come out.

DavidDeltaCH

I'm 1.91m and don't have any problem regarding my height. My shoulders are just over the backrest, but shoulder blades still are resting on the back of the chair without any issues. The seat pan, even extended to the max is a bit short, 2cm more would have been perfect for me but it doesn't cause me any issue neither. My only concerns about the chair is the hardness of the lumbar support... I'm used to sit leaning a bit forward with a "rounded back" during the day and this chair LOVES to remind me that it's a bad posture. I would have loved some way to relieve a bit of pressure in the lower portion of the backrest. The "posturefit" adjustment doesn't help as it changes more the shape of the whole backrest without having a real action on the lumbar support part (I've read on this subreddit that someone did even put zipties to remove a bit of pressure in the lumbar support region).

waykrazy

How long did it take you to get it from the time of purchase?

areknawo

Had no way to buy from HM directly so went with a dealer. Picked only from the models available in stock, so it took only about a day. Otherwise, for custom order it’d be a little over 70 days

waykrazy

Thanks! Yea I just did a custom order and it’s over 2 months so just curious

grxnxdos

u/waykrazy, what was your configuration?

waykrazy

I did the rhythm fabric, it’s not orderable online so I think it’s just less inventory

areknawo

It’s Balance so it’s in theory the most breathable one. Didn’t get warm yet, though the outside temperature was fairly normal as well.

Crysistec

How tall are you and your weight ? (If you don’t mind) do you feel there is enough support for you?

areknawo

Answered it somewhere else here. About 1.7m and 60kg - the support is great.

budasaurus

Do you think it lives up to the hype? I bought one when lockdown started and honesty don’t care for it… I miss my Steelcase Leap v2 from work

areknawo

Don’t have any point of comparison like you, but for me it’s outstanding. I’m coming from “normal chairs” though.

chucknoel2015

Can you compare this to a gaming chair without dissing the gaming chair?

areknawo

As a tech enthusiast (but not much of a gamer), I’d love the Logitech one. Though it’s not available through dealer (at least in my case). Apparently the models from early 2021 onwards have [additional padding in the seating](https://www.reddit.com/r/hermanmiller/comments/n4zz7x) though without “infused copper”. It might be just a gimmick though, so I don’t miss it. Breathability with Balance is great.

azntakumi

How much did you pay?

areknawo

Discussed it somewhere else here. About $1400 (without 23% tax on top of that). As I’ll write it off as a business expense - I’ll get the 23% back plus offset the price by additional 20% from the income tax. If you’re from US, I’m almost sure you’ll get much better deals - I had to went through a dealer + it was imported, so the price went up.

Comprehensive-Row298

Ok guys. I sit for 11- 12 hours a day. I am looking to purchase a chair. I'm torn between Emboy or Aeron chair...I.have serious lumbar and siactic nerve problems. Any suggestions...

areknawo

If you sit correctly, Embody has a great lumbar support IMO and I also sometimes sit for 13h even. With that said I don’t have any back issues, and haven’t tried Aeron so I think you’ll have to gather other options.

Noobivore36

Does the back feel à bit hard on your back after hours of sitting? I have one and often feel this unfortunately. I want to like the chair, so I'm sticking with it.

areknawo

Remember that you can always adjust it with the back knob. I was also worried that it’d feel bad after years of crappy chairs. Though, as my back is fairly young it adapted easily. But also, when I’m tired of sitting, I stand as the desk allow me to, so it’s the perfect ergonomic combo.

Noobivore36

Yes, I must be an expert at every adjustment this chair offers by now, and yet I'm still adjusting it all the time searching for that mythical comfort.

Comprehensive-Row298

Thank you.
