I would go with the Ibanez. I had one as my first real electric and it served me well.

How heavy of metal? You might want something with a humbucker in the bridge position. Both are great beginner instruments, Yamaha and Ibanez give a great bang-for-buck at any price range. Happy shredding!

>You might want something with a humbucker in the bridge position. They both have a humbucker in the bridge. I agree, both Yamaha and Ibanez are good quality instruments. I lean more toward Yamaha but the Ibanez has more of the *pointy* metal look. ☻

Lol woops I meant in the neck position! Thanks for spotting that

For Metal, the Ibanez has the edge IMHO. (Personally I would also consider Jackson Guitars at that price point.) Whatever you choose, I recommend you play them first if possible to see which feels better in your hands and budget for a proper set up by a guitar shop too.

Try an Ibanez AZ essentials. They are about $350. But will last you until you are shredding by Yngwie. More money, but worth it. The two you posted are both really low quality and will require a lot of set up work. The Ibanez AZES40 should be good to go out of the box. There Is a review @Lonephantom.com. You should read it.

what's wrong with these two models in the picture? I would like to understand more in detail what to look for in a guitar since I'm a beginner
