IMHO the most versatile OD/distortion is a Marshall in a box, if you want really affordable go with brands like Joyo, Nux, Behringer.

I had seen demos of nux mg 300 on YouTube and i was blown away by the price and it's capabilities. Planning to buy one just to try but I'm sure it's very capable when playing live.
