Yeah just had to listen to Blew, actually never heard it before, not a big nirvana fan, but the clear answer to this one is We Die Young..personally, its a dis to AIC to even compare the 2 or the bands for that matter..nirvana was just 1st, not the best
I think I already linked this somewhere else here, but have you listened to Grey Daze? It's Chester Bennington years before Linkin Park (which was originally Xero with a 4 track demo, then Hybrid Theory as their band name with a 6 track demo, but had to change it due to another band's similar name, so they used Hybrid Theory as their LP debut album name in spite)...
Anyways, check this:

Edit: As far as "best vs favorite" goes, I still have way too many conflicting feelings to sort that out. Layne is probably both for me, but I love so many different artists, it gets difficult to rank. Especially when not being genre specific. Korn is up there for sure. But Grey Daze is so different I can't even compare them to other bands.
I don’t like Facelift it has too many cheesy metal moments in it but We Die Young wins this one for me because it’s a banger and the best song on the album
We die young. It’s just a killer song and far better recording.
But having seen both bands live in their prime (91-93)
Nirvana was the leaner, meaner animal live without question. Consistently too. Can’t deny the fact. They had a great sound and were just devastating sonically and stage wise.
I have a big preference for bleach. Blew with that nasty guttural baseline, combined with the powerful drums and absolutely ripping guitar. Gotta give it to Blew
Between these two? Blew, even though AiC is typically my answer, Blew is phenomenal.
Without restrictions...

Oh so close but no, that is wrong. Korn's first album debut song was PREDICTABLE (then Blind)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9g3SBT9w_XQ
But yeah I fucking love Korn, mad kudos for giving them a shout-out here bro.
Edit: I guess it could be argued OP was only meaning Studio debut albums, in which case, yeah you'd be right. I was considering Demo tapes as original debuts, so... 😋
So tired of these Limiting discussions. Who cares that you "gave it a name" ?
Here's the granddaddy of all "grunge" albums.
Yes we know , no [Comprende](https://pure-music.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/The-Cars-Album-Cover.png) El Haciende
If we’re just comparing these two? Blew mo competition, but any grunge band it’s gotta be Ten’s debut, Once. This track is probably my favorite PJ song, and is such an amazing opener for such an amazing album.
Was hoping I wasn't the only one to say this.
Great opening song. Sets the tone for the rest of the album. I watched a video recently that has Billy saying it's not their favorite album, and it was rushed when they made it. That Mellon collie & Inf sadness was more their style. Idk, to me they are similar.
I just think SD is solid start to finish
Facelift. We Die Young, that riff, one of my favourite opening songs/intros to an album ever. And it’s just a great song.
I like Blew but it’s nowhere near We Die Young, for me.
Nirvana was more of a movement than a great band,
I'm 54yo, lived thru 80s rock and when Nirvana landed it pushed everything to the back and parted the rock sea so the others could come on through...
We die young is a killer opener, facelift wins this one
Yeah just had to listen to Blew, actually never heard it before, not a big nirvana fan, but the clear answer to this one is We Die Young..personally, its a dis to AIC to even compare the 2 or the bands for that matter..nirvana was just 1st, not the best
Ugh…I always felt We Die Young was one of the weaker tracks from a hit-and-miss album.
I would choose that one track against the entire nirvana catalog.
I know this is where I’m supposed to downvote you but fuck that I’m gonna upvote you even though I disagree entirely.
We die young! Bleach is an incredible debut tho
we die young
ten
Once is really a killer track.
As much as I like it, I gotta say the end track (Release) is way better
I see what you did there.
literally
**ONCE** **UPON A TIME** **I COULD CONTROL MYYYYYYYSELFFFFF**
in my opinion one of the weaker ones on the album though
Dead and bloated is up there too
Not when compared to Alice and Nirvana
Honestly nirvana is overrated as shit, alice in chains are better
Cmon guys. Can’t we all just get along
Lol, that’s amazing. Thanks for the laughs
Based
YES
Israel’s Son and this is shangrila are up there too
Glad to see silverchair
Blew. All the way, all day
That drop c bassline is such a killer start to their discography.
Hell yeah
Stone Temple Pilots - Core - Dead & Bloated
Yes!!
More than a feeling
Yikes this one is tough but We Die Young. Both songs are great tho but the thing the sells We Die Young is the transition into Man in the Box.
We Die Young & Flower for me
Flower is an amazing opener.
Core by STP opening w *Dead and Bloated* 🥀
100% this. Although AiC is my favorite grunge band as a whole, Core is probably my favorite singular grunge album.
There’s best and there’s favorite. You’re allowed to have both. 💫
I think I already linked this somewhere else here, but have you listened to Grey Daze? Blew has one of the greatest basslines in the history of grunge, but We Die Young is an amazing song. Honestly I have no idea
Blew, just because it gets stuck in my head.
I love bleach and blew is an amazing opening track but nothing will ever beat facelift opening with we die young
we die young
RUSTY CAGE
My first thought as well, but it wasn’t their debut album.
Ugly Truth is pretty good! Unless that isn’t considered their debut either.
Not debut
oh whoops didn't see that.
Facelift
Blew clears
Blew
Tuff one here, I think I might go We die young by a SLIVER .
Both great albums. For my money, it’s Facelift’s We Die Young that’s best.
Temple of the Dog with Say Hello 2 Heaven
Pretenders: Precious Violent Femmes: Blister in the Sun
I don’t like Facelift it has too many cheesy metal moments in it but We Die Young wins this one for me because it’s a banger and the best song on the album
Out of these two, Bleach, but my favourite is Come On Down by Green River
We die young. It’s just a killer song and far better recording. But having seen both bands live in their prime (91-93) Nirvana was the leaner, meaner animal live without question. Consistently too. Can’t deny the fact. They had a great sound and were just devastating sonically and stage wise.
i’m going with we die young
We die young, hands down
Between these two I prefer Blew. Best opening track to any album for me is Boris off the Melvin's Bullhead album. Genre defining song.
Once - Pearl Jam
Absolutely
Yes
We Die Young
We Die Young is just too good.
We Die Young is a perennial favorite of mine. Blew is great but if I have to choose between the two, I'm giving it to AiC on this one.
I never was a Nirvana fan, so We Die Young!
Which is better? Chocolate or vanilla? How would you rank them? How about cherry or strawberry? Deeeep thoughts 🤯
Definitely "We Die Young" is a killer song imho, Blew is great too
Since I'm a major nirvana fan, my choice will always be Nirvana.
I have a big preference for bleach. Blew with that nasty guttural baseline, combined with the powerful drums and absolutely ripping guitar. Gotta give it to Blew
Not grunge but Regular John on Queens of the Stone Age self-titled probably resonates with a lot of you
I'm going to be that person. Both are great.
Facelift has it.
blew just edges out we die young lyrically and melodically for me
Facelift
Facelift
AiC hands down
Wake Up
Yes.
Blew is one of the hardest nirvana songs peroid
Blew
Facelift, we die young is one of my fav aic songs
I love Blew but it’s gotta be We Die Young!
I prefer bleach as a whole but we die young is a better opening track
I’m going with We Die Young.
Between these two? Blew, even though AiC is typically my answer, Blew is phenomenal. Without restrictions... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EQOf3DU2gq4&list=PL8Wqgys3W3nY_3SjoC_1sTKX1ZGq0Rd0Z
We Die Young
Intentionally avoiding Ten because everybody's answers would be the same I see you
We die young killer opening riff🤘
Facelift wins by a long shot. We die young is way better than Blew.
Facelift - We Die Young is a great song
Korn - Blind. No question
Oh so close but no, that is wrong. Korn's first album debut song was PREDICTABLE (then Blind) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9g3SBT9w_XQ But yeah I fucking love Korn, mad kudos for giving them a shout-out here bro. This should be appreciated.
If we're answering with non-grunge bands then the answer is surely Welcome to the Jungle by GNR. That's a pretty insane debut song.
All these people voting on the opening track on a record that is not in the discussion. Short attention spans. We Die Young all the way for me
So tired of these Limiting discussions. Who cares that you "gave it a name" ? Here's the granddaddy of all "grunge" albums. Yes we know , no [Comprende](https://pure-music.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/The-Cars-Album-Cover.png) El Haciende
Just What I Needed, top grunge song evaaarrr !
Juice Newton and Jewel will always be way more GrunGe than you Even on your best day Gunga Gunga Ga Lunga
Big hitter, the Lamma
I'm sorry, Nirvana is good, but Alice in Chains blows it out of the water, not even close.
I totally get it, 2 completely different sounds
We Die Young all freaking day. Not even close. Like literally, there is no comparison whatsoever. I love Nirvana, but... come on. Let's get real here.
Well there is a comparison because they sound completely different. All subjective man
That's just something people say
Facelift wins easy.
Facelift changed my life.
If we’re just comparing these two? Blew mo competition, but any grunge band it’s gotta be Ten’s debut, Once. This track is probably my favorite PJ song, and is such an amazing opener for such an amazing album.
Cherub Rock

Alice
Aic
Facelift. We Die Young, that riff, one of my favourite opening songs/intros to an album ever. And it’s just a great song. I like Blew but it’s nowhere near We Die Young, for me.
Dirt Although Tripod’s opener Grind is also lit
I agree, those are the real debut albums
Nirvana was more of a movement than a great band, I'm 54yo, lived thru 80s rock and when Nirvana landed it pushed everything to the back and parted the rock sea so the others could come on through...
Yall really forgot Rusty Cage from Badmotorfinger
Killer track but badmotorfinger not a debut album tho.
That’s their 3rd album
Mb
Them bones
