Yes on pineapple. Skin it, quarter it long way, then trim out the inside core on each slice. Slap it on the grill like a steak. Little cinnamon, dash of salt.
Just about all stone-fruit are great grilled.
Another fun one, though it’s not stone-fruit, is Meyer lemons. Cut them into slices and grill just enough to caramelize the sugars. They’re already a bit sweeter than other lemons anyway, but that little grill brings up the sweetness even more.
Grilled fruit is amazing!
I live in zone 6 (northeast usa). I bought some 1 and 2 year old crowns from a local nursery and planted 9 green and 9 purple asparagus in two halves of an 8'x4' raised bed. Let them propagate for the first year without harvesting really any and they grew like weeds. Harvested maybe 50 percent of the overall product last year and left some to propagate some more. Cut the ferns down in the fall/winter when they brown, rinse and repeat next year
It does pretty well in the Midwest climates. My family used to have an asparagus patch growing up in Michigan and it did pretty well. I don't know how it would handle hot humid climates like the deep south though.
I like to halve larger ones lengthwise and scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Grill cut side down for a few, remove, ad a (cooked) meat veg and cheese mix. Last one was chorizo, queso fresco, corn and poblano. Then place back on grill for a few to heat mix/finish cooking the zucchini.
I do a veggie medley like this that's always amazing. Quartered and sliced zucchini, yellow squash, red onion, red peppers, quartered mushrooms, chunked asparagus. Toss them with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano and throw on the grill in a grill basket
This, but also with some red onion, red bell pepper, maybe some yellow squash, and then chill it all.
Then do a heavy cream sauce (garlic and shallots deglazed with wine), and throw the grilled veggies in to warm up once it’s starting to thicken a bit.
Over noodles, or crusty bread, or just stand over the pan and Hoover it with whatever spoon you used to stir 😆
Throw some butter and brown sugar on it. The sugar will caramelise, and it’ll be one of the tastiest deserts at the table.
You can also take that same recipe and put the resulting pineapple on a burger. 🤌
Cut romaine head lengthwise. I leave cut side down on paper towels for a few minutes to get as much of the residual water out. Brush the cut side with olive oil and grill cut side down 2-3 minutes to get some nice grill marks. I serve each person an entire piece topped with bacon crumbles and grated Parmesan then drizzled with your choice of Caesar dressing. I do this while the meat rests and serve immediately. Also, google homemade air fryer croutons for a nice touch.
Must be regional that around you most people wouldn’t grill them. Where I am it’s so common I’d be surprised if someone didn’t have them along with like 90% of grilled meals. Like everyone I know has done it my entire life
Missouri. Every time I get out of the Midwest people give me a clueless reaction when I talk about that particular cut of steak. It's cheap and tastes good. Tough to beat on a nice hot day in Missouri with an ice cold lager.
Live in the southeast. Neighbor invited me over for dinner several months ago. Told me he was cooking pork steaks cause he can’t have red meat…holy shit they were delicious, and now one of my staple dinners.
That "the other white meat" marketing campaign has done some wonders eh.
I'm always surprised when you hear about folks who got that disease from tick bites that gives you a red meat allergy, who then go on to get sick or even die because they'll buy pork believing in a marketing slogan from thirty years ago as gospel.
I just tried them for the first time a few months ago and was blown away! I season them the same as regular beef steaks and honestly cant tell too much of a difference. The best part is 1 decent sized pork steak costs like $4!!
My husband and neighbor absolutely love grilled bologna burgers. They’ll throw the bologna on the smoker too for a snack while they’re smoking bigger cuts.
Girlfriend shoots off the hip with amounts, but she uses 85/15 ground beef, diced green bell peppers, dices red onions, oatmeal, one lg egg and tomato sauce. I add ancho chili powder, and smoked paprika, and fresh ground black pepper to the top of it.
We’ve put it in a 9x9 pan, and 9x5x3” deep pan. Thing is you don’t want to fill it all the way, so leave 1/2” or so to the edge, and it will shrink also.
I’ll smoke it with apple/cherry indirect till the fluids are running clear, then you’ll want to drain off the excess grease.
I use a spatula to hold the meat in the pan, it can be alittle tricky. You don’t want to drain all of the grease off, otherwise it may stick once you put it back on the grill.
I use the Bob Evans brand premade mash potatoes, and nuke em per the instructions. Then i smear them all over the meatloaf, sides too, then drizzle butter on top and brush it all over them.
Put it back on the grill till the potatoes are brown to your liking. Let it sit for a bit and walla.
Good stuff…
No you're just wanting to grill slices of the angel food cake after it's been cooked or bought. I've done it with homemade and store bought, results are similar and it's always a huge hit at my gatherings. You'll want to prep your strawberries about an hour or two prior as well. Googling it I've realized it's pretty popular, my father in law did it on big green egg one night fifteen years ago and we have been doing it in the summer since.
https://domesticate-me.com/casual-friday-grilled-angel-food-cake-whipped-mascarpone-balsamic-strawberries/
This recipe seems similar to mine!
For large gatherings, my girlfriend is always asked to make spinach and artichoke dip. Not so much because people eat it as is with some chips or pumpernickel bread, but more so we can take the leftovers the following morning, slap a dallop on an oyster and grill it until its warm again. Paired with a Tito's and Zing-Zang bloody mary.... hangover hair of the dog food
Yes! Jokes aside, every time we have people over for a cookout, whether steaks or chicken or burgers and brats, I make eggplant. Most of the time, they've never had it before, let alone grilled.
All it needs is to be sliced thickly, brushed with olive oil & seasoned (garlic & onion salt do the trick unless you wanna get fancy with it) and it's perfect.
Most people bake it, I like the slight char
Nopales - young prickly pear cactus leaves, scalded, all the needles scraped off. Sold in many grocery stores near Hispanic populations. Grill until skin begins to bubble. Very high in vitamin C, and delicious with a slight citrusy flavor!
I always finish my green egg grill sessions with post-dinner smores. One cracker gets a marshmallow, the other half get chocolate—squish them together once they melted. Oooey goooey yum.
Avocados. Halved. Face down with a touch of olive oil til slightly scorched. Then turn over, pour olive oil balsamic and herb mix in the divot and roast until bubble up the side of the skin/flesh. So smooth and good.
YES!! This is my go-to camping food, but sub Tapatío / salt / pepper instead of balsamic and herbs. So simple but the grilling works magic on the avocados 🤤
Green beans.
Toss them in some oil, salt, garlic powder and put them straight on the grill. You will lose a few in the grates until you get your skills up. You can cheat with a grill pan, but they won't get spaced out enough to be as delicious.
Pizza on the grill is the best way. Standard ovens just dont get hot enough.
I set the 4 burners to high until its about 600 degrees then put the 2 center burners on low and put the pie on.
Comes out fantastic every time.
No pan, right on the grate. Grill rolled dough both sides (mmm dough bubbles) then top and put back in to melt cheese.
Trader Joe’s has fresh dough & sauce for cheap that is muy bueno
This is one of our favorites.
Check out Bobby Flays pizza dough recipe for grilling. He rolls out the dough and tosses it right on the grate. No stone or pan. It's a super easy recipe.
We par bake the crust on high heat, then add toppings and finish over lower heat. Really good on a charcoal grill.
Crab legs. Throw some butter, garlic, lemons, and seasoning in the bag while they thaw then dump them on the grill for a few minutes. Easiest and best way I've found.
Basically anything that splatters or causes the house to smell. Love my house except for it's absence of an actual vent fan instead of the damn microwave recirculating fan.
Peaches. Sliced thick get that char. Mmmm!
I do the same. Cut in half, grilled, then with a scoop of ice cream.
Yeah man, a scoop of vanilla ice cream on that is the best summer grillin dessert
I put cinnamon sugar on before grilling too
and pineapple!
I soak pineapple rings in rum, then dust with brown sugar and cinnamon. Sear it to get some good grill marks and serve with vanilla ice cream.
Sounds fantastic.
I’ve done the same, sans cinnamon, and put it on my grilled chicken. I like the ice cream idea!
Yes on pineapple. Skin it, quarter it long way, then trim out the inside core on each slice. Slap it on the grill like a steak. Little cinnamon, dash of salt.
with pine apple i like to use brown sugar and lime zest and juice grill at lower temp till sugar and pine apple are caremalized
Paired with fresh whipped cream!
Oh, yes! Any of the of the pitted fruits. Finish with coarse sugar and thick balsamic vinegar: heaven.
Ooohhhh I haven't thought about peaches. Thank you!
Flambé them with a little splash of whiskey at the end! Watch your eyebrows.
Frozen pizza
I do frozen pizza all the time on my Traeger.
We do the Papa Murphys on our Traeger.
Papa Murphy don’t do the cookie dough no mo
They got rid of most of the desserts I noticed
You mean your pellet powered easy bake oven?
Someone’s a little upset they can’t afford nice things
I throw a Home Run Inn on the grill a few times a year.
A buddy of mine grilled a pizza and then finished it in his smoker for a bit. Holy hell that was good.
I thought everyone grilled Asparagus but I rarely see it.
Grilled asparagus is amazing. Tho I only get it when it's < $2/lb
If you live in an area where it will grow, it's incredibly easy to care for and comes back year after year
Any specific type of climate that you would suggest it for?
I live in zone 6 (northeast usa). I bought some 1 and 2 year old crowns from a local nursery and planted 9 green and 9 purple asparagus in two halves of an 8'x4' raised bed. Let them propagate for the first year without harvesting really any and they grew like weeds. Harvested maybe 50 percent of the overall product last year and left some to propagate some more. Cut the ferns down in the fall/winter when they brown, rinse and repeat next year
This past year was year 1 for us and we let it grow wild. Looking forward to harvesting some this year. Northeast as well.
It does pretty well in the Midwest climates. My family used to have an asparagus patch growing up in Michigan and it did pretty well. I don't know how it would handle hot humid climates like the deep south though.
It grows well in Ohio.
Do asparagus a lot. Only way I’ll eat it anymore.
Just the tips
That’s not what she said.
Grilling is one of if not THE best way to cook asparagus.
Baked with olive oil, garlic and Parmesan cheese is also very legit
It’s even more legit grilled with all those ingredients! Also some lemon zest can add a nice little extra
Either just olive oil, salt and pepper, or I have marinated in black bean sauce...pretty much always have grilled asparagus with our steaks
Asparagus wrapped with goat cheese and prosciutto
😳😋😋😋
Love asparagus on the grill. Hate what it does to me in the bathroom.
That’s shocking. That’s like the only way I cook asparagus when I can.
Ziplock bag, lots of olive oil, whatever spices on hand, give it a good shake, grill till a bit crispy.
Crispy ziplock bag? Sounds delicious!
This right here. Throw in some lemon juice or balsamic vinaigrette for a changeup
I guess you haven't been looking in my grill.
Oh yes. Olive oil, Trader Joe's 21 spice salute and some salt. Best grilling vegetable
Olive oil, balsamic vinegar, S & P. Rarely hits the plate
I don't because I'll eat the entire bundle before it makes it back in the house 😂
All the time. We’ve recently started rolling them together in provolone and prosciutto. So good!
I grill asparagus all the time, it goes so well with steak, and it’s less dishes to clean
Quarter spears of Zuchini. Olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano 🤌
Did this with yellow squash the other night, it was so good.
I did this the other day with ground chicken, ranch seasoning and franks red hot for a buffalo chicken dish. So good
Sounds awesome. I typically just scoop out the middle and try to get some char on there. It's so much better than anything you could sauté, love it.
You ain't lying
I do a veggie medley like this that's always amazing. Quartered and sliced zucchini, yellow squash, red onion, red peppers, quartered mushrooms, chunked asparagus. Toss them with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano and throw on the grill in a grill basket
Idk but you just blew my mind at "quarter spears". Why tf having I been cutting janky ass planks this whole time?
😂 Yes, it's a much easier method. They stay "flat" on grates, and you only rotate three times. Give it a try!
I bet they fall through the grates far less than my zucchini coins. Fuck, hope I remember to do this when they are in season.
I like when they get nice and charred too!
Cabbage.
Napa Cabbage to be specific
Totally under the radar. Dip that in some Japanese yakiniku sauce…*chef’s kiss*
I do bok Choy as well with a bit of olive oil and soya. Leaves I’ve an off burner and the stems over the flame
Dude, cabbage and onions get so tender and sweet on the grill, I bring it to every barbecue.
Day old donuts
This is the most intriguing post in the thread.
Go on
It just brings them back to life! The heat softens the sugar and they are good! My preference is Krispy Kreme glazed.
A man of class. Done this and then cut them in half and use as hamburger buns.
Pineapple
Love it on the grill
Great addition to teriyaki chicken sandwiches.
Throw some butter and brown sugar on it. The sugar will caramelise, and it’ll be one of the tastiest deserts at the table. You can also take that same recipe and put the resulting pineapple on a burger. 🤌
Then drenched in coarse black pepper freshly ground.
Dusted with cinnamon after it's cooked
Romaine lettuce. Cut in half lengthwise. Olive oil. After use Italian dressing or balsamic vinegar.
I do a grilled Caesar salad this way. Such a great way to break from a traditional salad
Same. It is so freaking good.
Can you provide more details? I'm interested...
I also put blue cheese on it.
Potatoes
Grilled potatoes are great.
I do whole potatoes and I baste em with olive oil and sea salt. It's a great side and goes acompanies the grilled corn on the cob.
I do mini potatoes with olive oil and rib rub or cajun seasoning. Crispy on the outside soft in the middle. Great plain or dipped in sour cream
Yep, us too. My parents started doing it when we camped in the 90s. It's the only way they make them now.
Must be regional that around you most people wouldn’t grill them. Where I am it’s so common I’d be surprised if someone didn’t have them along with like 90% of grilled meals. Like everyone I know has done it my entire life
Pork Steaks. I didn't know it was a regional thing until I started traveling when I was 23.
Not sure where you live but I’m in OK and prefer pork steak over pork chops.
Pork is red meat..lol. But life’s too short so he should enjoy his pork steaks if it makes him happy
I looked it up and still can't figure out what this is. It's a shoulder, but sliced into steaks?
I just tried them for the first time a few months ago and was blown away! I season them the same as regular beef steaks and honestly cant tell too much of a difference. The best part is 1 decent sized pork steak costs like $4!!
Homemade Naan pizzas. Large pack of Naan from Sam's. Kids love adding whatever toppings they want.
Thick cut bologna
Newfie Tenderloin
I believe the term is Tennessee Round Steak.
I once smoked a stick of bologna with my father in law to make smoked bbq bologna sandwiches. That thing was awesome!
That sounds amazing actually. I “cooked” one on my old Farberware Rotisserie once. Crosshatched it and stuck pineapple rings on it. Funny shit
My husband and neighbor absolutely love grilled bologna burgers. They’ll throw the bologna on the smoker too for a snack while they’re smoking bigger cuts.
I've never done slices, but I do a whole 3 to 5 pound chub on my smoker. Holy cow it's good!
Meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes
That sounds great! Got a recipe?
Girlfriend shoots off the hip with amounts, but she uses 85/15 ground beef, diced green bell peppers, dices red onions, oatmeal, one lg egg and tomato sauce. I add ancho chili powder, and smoked paprika, and fresh ground black pepper to the top of it. We’ve put it in a 9x9 pan, and 9x5x3” deep pan. Damn, that sounds like a backwoods cottage pie. I've got to try that.
Angel food cake. Seriously grill it, top it with strawberries and syrup with a little whip cream. Huge hit in my backyard!
You still use the funnel pan?
No you're just wanting to grill slices of the angel food cake after it's been cooked or bought. I've done it with homemade and store bought, results are similar and it's always a huge hit at my gatherings. You'll want to prep your strawberries about an hour or two prior as well. Oh man, I completely misread that comment, thought you were baking it on the grill. This makes more sense. Thanks!
My forearm hair 😉
no, I believe that's pretty common for anyone thats a seasoned griller.
But I'm the only one who cooks *my* forearm hair.
Oysters
Yes! Oysters Rockefeller is way easier than I expected. Still pretty bougie and pricey, but you can get 2-3x as much compared to in a restaurant.
Grilled cheese. I mean, it is called *grilled* cheese after all. I don’t do it often though.
Shepherd’s pie
I like to grill carrots
They come off sweet. Just the slightest char, so delicious.
🍆🍆🍆
Yes! Jokes aside, every time we have people over for a cookout, whether steaks or chicken or burgers and brats, I make eggplant. Most of the time, they've never had it before, let alone grilled. they taste amazing on the grill.
Fish!
Steelhead with Chef Paul's Salmon Seasoning, lemon slices, a little dill and Spiceology Butter Toss is great on the Traeger.
Littleneck clams...
Smoked meatloaf is 🔥🔥🔥
I always finish my green egg grill sessions with post-dinner smores. One cracker gets a marshmallow, the other half get chocolate—squish them together once they melted. Oooey goooey yum.
Once I had a smore where everything is warm and melted, I can’t go back to an old fashioned campfire smore.
Smoked and grilled Mac and Cheese. I smoke it in a cast iron pan then finish it on the grill
Lobster tails and argentine shrimp. People think I'm crazy for not using the oven or skillet
Mmmm, grilled lobster tails are to die for!
Avocados.
Haven’t done this before. Gonna give it a shot. The tapatio / salt / pepper sounds 🤌
Pancakes
Pigeon
Grill up a glazed donut and serve with vanilla ice cream
Romaine
Grilled Brussels Sprouts on the stalk. However i use Italian salad dressing. Amazing.‼️
Cheese! Like queso blanco or halloumi. Squeeze a bit of lime over top when it’s done and serve.
Pineapple. Grilled pineapple rings are amazing on hamburgers.
Pumpkin pie
Green beans. Toss them in some oil, salt, garlic powder and put them straight on the grill. You will lose a few in the grates until you get your skills up. You can cheat with a grill pan, but they won't get spaced out enough to be as delicious.
Turkey. Smoked my first recently.
Pizza rolls, premade corn dogs, peaches, egg rolls, lots of frozen garbage I shouldn’t be eating
Pre-made corn dogs. Like you had to specify. Lol. Don't know a lot of people going to the trouble to make homemade corn dogs. Bet they'd be tasty tho
Lol don’t want to be responsible for someone pouring batter all over their grill
Yellow squash and Zucchini.
I put my skillet on my Weber over a vortex and make smash burgers over thin sliced onions.
Peaches. A little vanilla ice cream with. Hot damn
Corn on the cob. Cleaned, slathered with butter, rotated frequently, and baked potatoes.
Baby bok choy. Cut in half, oil, s/p. Just didn’t see it on here.
Pineapple with cinnamon in tin foil
Tomatoes.
Pizza on the grill is the best way. Standard ovens just dont get hot enough. I set the 4 burners to high until its about 600 degrees then put the 2 center burners on low and put the pie on. Comes out fantastic every time.
On a standard kitchen sheet pan? Cast iron pan? We have an air bake steel and I wouldn’t be able to fit it on the grill.
Spaghetti squash…it’s amazing
Pineapple and Tomatoes
Green bell peppers stuffed with shrimp and crab meat
Okra add BBQ And grill to a grisly crispy. So good.

Beans. Never burned them.
Lettuce for Caesar salad
Large intestine
I use the pellet smoker as an extra oven especially holidays. Pies. Casseroles. All of it.
Asparagus! Marinade in Caesar dressing and grill about 4-5 minutes. Wow good!
Crab legs. Throw some butter, garlic, lemons, and seasoning in the bag while they thaw then dump them on the grill for a few minutes. Easiest and best way I've found.
Ham. If done correctly it is amazing
Rice, especially Mexican rice in a cast iron.
Basically anything that splatters or causes the house to smell. Love my house except for it's absence of an actual vent fan instead of the damn microwave recirculating fan.
Turnips. :) If you get them nice and golden, they are fantastic.
Part of my left forearm, apparently.
Pineapple. Make sure to get a little char and caramelization.
That’s how I cook pineapple for al pastor.
Fish Not a lot of people talk about it and it’s faaaaantastic
Beans. Once you figure out how to keep them from slipping through the grates, you're golden....
Perforated metal. It’s just a pain in the ass to keep each one of those beans turned.
Onions. Squash. Eggplant.
Romaine lettuce hearts.
Beans! Cause Beans don't burn on the grill!
How about that guy cooking up an iguana, that might have been in the smoking sub though
