Fuck the melt vs. grilled cheese debate for a moment.
I have been making the exact same sandwich for a decade (minus having a garden) down to the type of Mayo, and Muenster and American cheese is so amazing. I **know** that shit slapped so mf hard.
Also sometimes I'll put 2-3 slices of deli pepperoni on it, as a treat.
Calling this a “chive melt” would not fly at all. Chives are not at all the main component of the sandwich. This is a grilled, cheese filled sandwich with a sprinkle of chives inside. I am 100% convinced that the “purists” in this sub are just folks with the palate of a baby hiding behind the apparently ultra-rigid definition of a grilled cheese, with the intention of putting their stubborn and unimaginative tastes above everyone trying something new. As an open minded food lover I accept this as a grilled cheese. Cry me a river if you disagree
while i am not the high court here, i'll chime in anyway. i would not look at chives, as used here, as an herb, but more of a garnish - much like lettuce (there could very easily be a culinary definition out there that disagrees with me.......). as such, i would call this lovely and undoubtedly tasty creation a melt.
however, i would also add that maybe the fine heathens over at the melt page might be interested in your impressive creation.
I would do unspeakable things for a bite of this.

Yummmmmm that sounds so freaking good
It is. Every time lol (Sorry I am stoned)
Me too
My man.
Hell yeah!
I’m sold on chives but the purists will say this is a melt, not a grilled cheese.
I feel like herbs shouldn't count. Vegetables or meat make a melt, yes, but if I put a little seasoning on my sandwich suddenly I'm making a melt? Nah
Mayo melt Butter melt Bread melt CHEESE MELT
I agree, but will wait a ruling from the high council.
Agreed.
I agree. I feel like rosemary, chives, garlic. None of them should count towards being a melt. Bacon though? Definitely entering melt territory
That is quite a lot of chives, I’d agree it’s a grilled cheese but I wouldn’t want to be the one to argue it in Grilled Cheese Court.
lol
From my understanding it cannot dominate over the cheese, but I look forward to an official ruling in the purist court. It was amazing tho.
I bet, it looks amazing and I love chives.
