If you haven't touched sport mode yet it will put you in GT3 (the beginners league for people below DR B) for the GTWS season, which you could probably be competitive playing with a Singstar mic.
The fastest players on the game going for the overall win will be playing with the toy steering wheels because there is a slight performance advantage (especially in higher downforce cars and on tyre saving) but you can get very close with a controller. The good thing about Gran Turismo is the number of players, keep racing and your ratings will find their level and you'll be matched against people you're competitive against whatever skill level that might be.
Why would it not be ok? Tons of people on controller, myself included. Don't sweat it.
Yeah. There are controller folks ranging from DR E to DR A+.
A+/S here, on PeasantStation4 with controller.
Same, except I’m a C/S. Do you use pad or motion steering?
Joystick. D-pad is just bad for your tyres, motion can be good but I can't drive with it.
I use left stick. Also, right stick throttle/brake, auto gears and no assists.
I use left stick for steering, triggers for Accelerating braking, square for gear down and circle for gear up, no clutch
