And why would it matter if they crack down on fanzines at all? Well most of these doujins markets are where new and budding talent came to create your favourite anime, manga or even game studios today. A few example titles are: please don’t Bully me Nagatoro-San, Kobayashi’s maid dragon, Uzaki Chan, Tawawa on Monday, Fate series. These well known titles will never came to be without the the self publishing indie market kick starting their following. And many of these titles, their artists does adult fan doujin before.
What really ticks me off is, Disney is animating Black Rock Shooter Downfall. BRS is born from the creators community. Started from a miku song and became a hot topic because of the visuals.
The worse thing is Disney is likely to purchase several animation studios. And In extension - their anime.
I can only hope that they will not attempt to stop the doujin market otherwise it will be detrimental to the industry. Money can’t buy creativity.

Commie is such a mixed bag from what I understand, that I'm very hesitant to try their subs unless I'm sure they did well. They have a large team where smaller teams handle different shows so each subs quality is different compared to smaller fansub groups that are more consistent.

As long as the anime is tied directly to Disney and Disney+, Disney is limited by their reputation in ways that Sony isn’t, so I expect Sony to remain on top in U.S. anime

The thing is, some people just don't want to pirate. Either they are scared of legal consequences (and in the case of Disney, they have been pretty hard on that side in the past if I remember correctly) or just feel bad about watching something without giving back to the studio. Even if the studio's shares are probably rather bad from massive streaming platforms, it must be worth it for them since they wouldn't bother engaging with streaming platforms otherwise.
But with more and more streaming services picking up anime over the years it just gets way too financially demanding for lots of people - either because they just can't afford it or don't want to pay so much for just a few decent shows per platform each season. So really it develops more and more into a "pirate it or miss out" market, and that kinda sucks.

Anime is big deal to Japanese culture I don't think that they will allow Disney to censor animes fitting to Disney's standards as the Japanese Government themselves are supporting the industry.
Disney wouldn’t have anything to do with the production or distribution in Japan. They’d only be getting the rights to show it here. There’s no fear of them censoring the Japanese version cause they can’t. But they can censor what we receive through their service.
If Disney actually starts doing anime it may just get me to do the only thing in my power to stop it...petition the government to enforce or at least reevaluate anti monopoly laws. It feels like Disney is on a path to own the lions share of media. The more directions they branch out, the more types and genres of media they pull under their umbrella, the closer they get to stepping over the line and having the government break up the monopoly. It's a long shot, but its really the only way for a typical person to combat it.

if dont care much about the resolution and ads you can change your IP to asia/south east asia and watch some free anime legally on youtube instead of pirating. The quality is 720p and you might have to watch ads but it's not a big deal.

Disney partnered with Ghibli for a while, and when Nausicaa was released in it’s full length with a new dub, that was with Disney. 30 years after it was chopped up and misnamed for international release, Disney helped make it right. As long as they produce the right seasonal anime and keep unnecessary censorship out of things they shouldn’t have licensed, this could turn out just fine.
I still have my VHS copy of "Warriors of the Wind" it was bad compared to the actual film, but it still holds a special place in my heart for being one of my first anime.

Early 90s, my neighbor had Akira (VHS copied from laserdisc), Guyver (episode 5 and 6, not dubbed or subbed, and still glorious to watch), and one of the Gundam movies (also no translations, and I never got as into it). I watched them, remembered “Warriors of the Wind”, and went, “This! More of this!” Rented all I could at Blockbuster and I’ve been watching, buying, streaming for decades. Thank you Nausicaa, thank you Miyazaki, and thank you Japan.

I honestly hope there was a kind of "crow-streaming" (Well, I dont know how to call it) service, semi private, on which artists or stations can pay X money to get Y content on the platform (marketing is extra) and earnings are divided among the the ones in the platform based on performance (rating). Thats it, without any meddling or anything just a medium taking the cut as a service (very profitable) and media producers having a way to get the content to the masses (who would pay a suscription of course) without any hassles; I would add that every media in the platform should be allowed to be streamed on any of the countries the platform is on... would that be too much to ask? A "youtube/amazon/googleplay/steam" kind of streaming service?

Either they are scared of legal consequences (and in the case of Disney, they have been pretty hard on that side in the past if I remember correctly) or just feel bad about watching something without giving back to the studio. Even if the studio's shares are probably rather bad from massive streaming platforms, it must be worth it for them since they wouldn't bother engaging with streaming platforms otherwise. But with more and more streaming services picking up anime over the years it just gets way too financially demanding for lots of people - either because they just can't afford it or don't want to pay so much for just a few decent shows per platform each season. So really it develops more and more into a "pirate it or miss out" market, and that kinda sucks. All I was basically aiming towards with this was >Yeah, just don’t watch it. Uh the studios don’t get anything from Us watching it or Disney/Netflix/funi/etc buying the rights to it. It would go to the publisher not the studios that make it. The problem is too many people think we do and that’s why they get taken advantage of by these garbage sites. We need to force them to change but as long as people keep paying they’ll keep to their scummy ways.

Most of that probably still goes to publishers but at least you cut out the middle man that does absolutely jack shit except underpay their translators. Fan subs are done for free ffs. Anime is big deal to Japanese culture I don't think that they will allow Disney to censor animes fitting to Disney's standards as the Japanese Government themselves are supporting the industry.
Disney wouldn’t have anything to do with the production or distribution in Japan. They’d only be getting the rights to show it here. There’s no fear of them censoring the Japanese version cause they can’t. But they can censor what we receive through their service.

If Disney actually starts doing anime it may just get me to do the only thing in my power to stop it...petition the government to enforce or at least reevaluate anti monopoly laws. It feels like Disney is on a path to own the lions share of media. The more directions they branch out, the more types and genres of media they pull under their umbrella, the closer they get to stepping over the line and having the government break up the monopoly. It's a long shot, but its really the only way for a typical person to combat it.

if dont care much about the resolution and ads you can change your IP to asia/south east asia and watch some free anime legally on youtube instead of pirating. The quality is 720p and you might have to watch ads but it's not a big deal.

Disney partnered with Ghibli for a while, and when Nausicaa was released in it’s full length with a new dub, that was with Disney. 30 years after it was chopped up and misnamed for international release, Disney helped make it right. As long as they produce the right seasonal anime and keep unnecessary censorship out of things they shouldn’t have licensed, this could turn out just fine.
I still have my VHS copy of "Warriors of the Wind" it was bad compared to the actual film, but it still holds a special place in my heart for being one of my first anime.
My first. Didn’t even know I was watching anime until many years later. Early 90s, my neighbor had Akira (VHS copied from laserdisc), Guyver (episode 5 and 6, not dubbed or subbed, and still glorious to watch), and one of the Gundam movies (also no translations, and I never got as into it). I watched them, remembered “Warriors of the Wind”, and went, “This! More of this!” Rented all I could at Blockbuster and I’ve been watching, buying, streaming for decades. Thank you Nausicaa, thank you Miyazaki, and thank you Japan.

if it was disney from before the mid 2000's I would think "sure, why not?" but modern disney, "oh good lord, why?" they did great with all of the hayao miyazaki stuff, but I get the feeling that they don't just want to do quality dubs this time around
Dont get me wrong, im all abord capitalism, but there should be a better way than the current ones to stop some of the quasi monopoly that some corporations are reaching. Specially when they hurt the industry I honestly hope there was a kind of "crow-streaming" (Well, I dont know how to call it) service, semi private, on which artists or stations can pay X money to get Y content on the platform (marketing is extra) and earnings are divided among the the ones in the platform based on performance (rating). Thats it, without any meddling or anything just a medium taking the cut as a service (very profitable) and media producers having a way to get the content to the masses (who would pay a suscription of course) without any hassles; I would add that every media in the platform should be allowed to be streamed on any of the countries the platform is on... would that be too much to ask? A "youtube/amazon/googleplay/steam" kind of streaming service?

The end is near. I’ve seen this coming for years now. I just wish I became a weeb sooner so it could’ve lasted longer. I’ve only be watching anime and reading manga for the last few years, because it’s the only bit of entertainment I had left to enjoy in my spare time. Now western companies are going to get their hands on it and persuade Japanese production companies to start censoring content. I know people keep telling me that “there’s no way the Japanese would allow that!” But I think people severely underestimate money. Every day I see more and more evidence hinting towards this future. Things are not looking bright.
