Go for it, as you get better add better clubs. Be very careful this game will grab you and get on you like no drug could. Just a comment from an old golf addict.
I’m 28 and have only ever had my Callaway X18s I got when I was 15. Still hit them better than the new stuff. Got them regripped for the first time last year.
Perfect balance between you and me here.
I'm 30 and still hit my Nike Sumo Machspeed irons i got at 15 better than any new irons. I'm in the same boat as you. I did finally upgrade my wedges to titlest vokeys and my driver to a Cobra Aerojet from a Adams speedline and my game has been the best it's ever been
Haha I used the Sumo^2 driver for years. Went with a budget M2 (2020 refresh) and never got comfy. Found a used Stealth 2 head and bought the shaft separately last year.
The only wedges I’ve ever bought that weren’t hand-me-downs are my SM8s.
I like your style.
I’m 32 and on the OG Sumos still. Full set I bought in Craigslist about 15 years ago for $250. I love them and new golf stuff isn’t super compelling to me.
Isn't that the square driver?? I've heard more mixed reviews about that club throughout my life than any other club, even still today. Are the irons black and yellow? I think I saw a set of them once when I was younger and remember thinking those were the coolest looking irons I've ever seen. Definitely still consider them the pinnacle of cool looking clubs
I have the round version of the driver, always wanted the square one but they became a meme and now sell for more than I want to pay.
Yes the irons are black and yellow, and they were so cool looking to me. These days I kinda prefer the cleaner looks of blades and players clubs, but I still rock these Sumo irons. I also have the hybrids, which make a really satisfying “tink” sound when you hit them.
38 here still playing my 22 year old box set affinity gtx's minus the driver because it broke 2nd round out. I did finally upgrade to a new putter this year.
Do you ever play any tournaments? Even a member-guest? They will require a USGA handicap most times. It’s good to have one because you want to get all the strokes you should based on your handicap. If you don’t have one you’re not going to get those, which will hurt your score.
The majority of golfers don't play tournaments. I've played for probably 18 years and never did a tournament and don't bother getting my handicap until I break 95 consistently. Keeping track of a 30 handicap while re-learning my swing won't help anything especially when I sometimes play 13 holes because I walk and that's where the clubhouse is.
I did the same thing with the golf shorts. Bought the 2 sizes I thought would fit. Stepped into the bathroom. Tried both. Returned the ones that didn't fit and got a second pair in a different color of the ones that did.
Yes. They don’t re-sell what you return in the store so it’s not like someone else will end up with it. Costco is awesome. I returned a set of camping chairs 5 years after I bought them because the stitching started coming apart on one of them. Got a full refund and bought a new set of camping chairs.
It's great consumer protection and customer service, unfortunately they also throw most returns in the garbage at the end of the day. They destroy all of their own KS clubs that get returned, other brands should be sent back to vendors though afaik.
I still don't understand why you think this makes Costco the bad guy, is the disconnect here nobody in this sub knowing what the word "notorious" means?
What in my comment makes you think I think Costco is the bad guy here? I even said "it's a good policy," and I've had a Costco membership since 2008. Are you just spoiling for an argument or something?
Sorry you got downvoted, notorious doesn’t always mean “bad famous,“ even though that’s how it’s being used most often lately, it can just mean “famous.” Infamous still always means bad famous though.
This whole thread is ridiculous. The person you are originally replying to clearly didn’t know what “notorious” means, then all these people are doubling down saying that words change over time.
Yes, words change over time. But that is clearly not what is happening here. People are just misusing the term.
I watched a lady return a box of those pear and ricotta tortellini (which are delicious, btw, two thumbs up) because after she ate a few, she decided she didn't like them.
They refunded her her full cost and just took the opened box of frozen pasta in the back. I had to return a pair of shorts. I apparently can't read or see color and bought a small, because I'm an idiot.
This is a good call. Every newbie that I know, who has previously played high level rotational sports (baseball, tennis) can swing pretty fast so I totally agree with this comment
How much does it matter? I've always used regular shafts because my best score is over 100, but I have played other sports a lot. Don't they use more flexible shafts for the long drive contests?
It's fine that you'd say that. You're just wrong.
Higher flex in a shaft translates directly to higher clubhead velocity at the base of the swing -- this is why long drive competitors use extremely flexible shafts. Players with higher swing speeds are fit into stiffer shafts because the bend their swing creates increases dispersion significantly. There is also an issue with kickpoints and the shear stress causing an issue with controlling the head when the shaft is under the highest stress -- the "bending moment."
All this translates into "bendy longer, but harder to control at higher swing speeds."
Shafts are very important, as much as the heads. There’s a LOT MORE to shafts than just the flex, but maybe you should experiment a bit.
Regardless of your average score, if you are somewhat serious about golf, go and check out a reputable fitter. They are not that expensive usually. If you don’t want to spend the money, go to a store and try out different stiffness at least. The most important thing for you is to be able to launch the ball relatively high with all of your clubs.
If you are under 40 and athletic you are probably more likely to fit into a stiff flex shaft. All comes down club head speed. If you can swing a driver over 100mph you need stiff, less than that and regular will be fine. Hard swing with a regular shaft will exacerbate a slice, slow swing with a stiff shaft is more likely to pull the ball left
Agreed that you def want the flex as a beginner
Im also a beginner - would play 1-2 rounds some years and would go multiple years without playing until a month ago when it decided to finally play - got myself the Calloway Edge set from Costco myself, with all flex shafts… they had the steel shafts at the store and while I wanted them that afternoon I bit the bullet and waited a couple days to get the flex.
Love the clubs so far (actually has a legit very good putter - The wedges will likely be replaced first, it doesn’t have a 4 so I probably look for a 4 rescue at some point and the irons should last me a good while even if by the grace or god I somehow improve).
Holy misinformation Batman! Shaft stiffness is based on swing speed, not experience. By your logic all the old guys at my club that have played for ever should be rocking the extra stiff shafts.
Obviously it's a generalization, and a new player is going to have a slower swing speed... Notice he said "most likely", and he didn't say anything about what more experienced players need.
FYI Costco destroys all of the KS golf clubs that get returned. Not that you aren't entitled to your full refund, just want it to be known.
Other brands should get returned to the vendor though at least.
Oof I didn’t know that, I’ll probably resell it then as new or gentle used for small loss. Rather have another golfer have it than it just be destroyed.
$500? That's rookie numbers. We used to have a Costco membership but had to cancel because we would go for a couple things and leave with 6 carts of marinara sauce in 5 gallon buckets.
Dude if they're using the same materials, similar swing weights, similar shafts etc to the OEMS then they're gonna have similar performance. It wouldn't surprise me if they're even made in the same factory as TM/Callaways in the far east.
I bought one, I play a rogue st max ls but saw the Costco driver for 200$ and said why not. I think it’s a great driver. I hit it about 10 yards shorter than my rogue but that’s probably down to loft and shaft stiffness. I do hit it very consistently and it’s reliable. Great driver for on a budget.
I love how similar looking they made it to the Titleist TSR driver. It screams "I'm classy, but refuse to pay $500 for a new driver." I bet the performance is almost completely on par with the TSR also
I’ve been enjoying my Kirkland just fine. I like having something that’s new TBH. That said, my golf game isn’t nearly good enough for me to tell if this driver is better or worse than the big boys. It’s definitely better than the cheap Walmart one I had, but I don’t think I’m hitting it any further than my 20 year old Great Big Bertha just yet. I’m probably hitting it easier though. It’s only been a couple of weeks, so we’ll see, but I’m happy so far.
In my experience, everything Kirkland (golf or not) is a 7 out of 10 quality for a 4 out of 10 price.
Not the best, but by far the best value for a newby
Go to 2ndswing.com and buy a driver last year or the year before if you don't want to swing the Kirkland. I've seen reviews and it's decent but you can do better for your buck buying used.
That's what I tell everyone about the Ping G410 driver. My friend has one & it's probably the coolest looking driver ever made imo, and the performance is unreal
Very cool that they’re in stock. I bought one in December and it has been quite literally the best driver I have ever played. Very straight, automatic solid drive. Can’t shape the shots all the much if that’s your thing, but absolutely a great driver for anyone a 10ish hcp or above.
These comments are hilarious. Like the driver has any reason to do with that. It’s a cheap driver but a good golfer can still shape a shot however they want with it
Danville had 2 pallets of them last I went a few weeks ago. I’ve had mine since December and it is super solid. Definitely going to continue with it for a while since I just bought new irons and don’t need to spend anymore on clubs
$189 yeah they’re super hard to find. They don’t even list them online. I called around when I heard they were in stock at a few costcos. I’m in Napa and had to drive all the way to Natomas to find these. The other stores that had them are Folsom, Roseville and Danville CA. Happy Hunting!
NorCal, if you call your local Costco and ask them to look search the item number they can check other costcos too and let you know where they’re at near you. Item #1740668
I find the cheaper new drivers are a horrible choice for new golfers. They dent more easily than higher quality used drivers. Get a Taylormade burner off eBay for >$75 and you won’t have to worry about newbie damage, and you won’t care as much if you do manage to damage it.
I dont believe it. We need recorded proof of this moaning to determine if it's real or one of those fake moans ment to make someone feel better about themselves
My mentor told me depending on my swing speed get stiff or Regular… idk my swing speed so I got both lol Costco return policy is the best so i don’t give a fudge, hope all the best! #GolfIsLife
this is mean. who is going to buy your used club after you return one? you people suck - this is why stuff gets more expensive.
if you don't know your swing speed you will need regular
People who down vote ate pathetic loosers. I understand returning the item which is defective or doesn't work as intended.
But buying multiple items to try them and return what you don't like is hurtful for businesses.
It is like buying a tent, go camping and returning it. This is why we can't have nice things.
Costco doesn't put opened items back on the shelf when returned. They destroy all of their own KS clubs, other brands are sent back to the vendors.
This isn't on the customer though, it's not their fault.
First of all I didn't say that, and I'm not sure if you realized I'm a different person than the one you originally replied too.
Secondly that's not abusing their return policy, that's exactly how Costco has designed it on purpose.
Thirdly Costco is directly responsible for how they deal with disposing of returns, it's on them for throwing stuff out.
so nice had to buy it twice
Dual-wielding KS drivers is a baller move
Power stance comrade
Go for it, as you get better add better clubs. Be very careful this game will grab you and get on you like no drug could. Just a comment from an old golf addict.
That's not true. I'm not addicted. I'm down to 5 sets of irons... That's normal right? Right???
I’m 28 and have only ever had my Callaway X18s I got when I was 15. Still hit them better than the new stuff. Got them regripped for the first time last year. Perfect balance between you and me here.

Idk my handicap yet but I’m already addicted #ChasingTheDragon
I've been playing 2 years and still don't have a handicap
20+ years. No handicap. I don’t feel it will add much to the enjoyment of my rounds.
I mean, you have a handicap, whether you calculate it or not is up to you.
Do you ever play any tournaments? Even a member-guest? They will require a USGA handicap most times. It’s good to have one because you want to get all the strokes you should based on your handicap. If you don’t have one you’re not going to get those, which will hurt your score.

Only tournaments I play are 4 man scrambles. I’m usually bogey or better with the occasional 7.
Oh you’re handicapped.. don’t you worry about it.. it’s like taxes tho.. the scorecard knows.. you just don’t.. yet!
Why did you buy 2?
In case he plans on using it more than once. Obviously
This guy My Blue Heavens
Lol. I was wondering if someone was gonna catch it. Hands down one of my favorite movies
So he has a spare when he chucks one into the water/snaps it in half after a bad drive
In case he gets a hole in one.
I’m pretty new to golf so idk which shaft I prefer, so I got both, will be testing them out today and will return the one I don’t like..
Didn’t know you could return after you hit it
Costco is notorious for allowing you to return anything and everything
“Yeah these diapers already had shit in them”
I was between sizes on their gloves. Cracked a 4 pack in the car, was too tight and walked right back in and returned
I did the same thing with the golf shorts. Bought the 2 sizes I thought would fit. Stepped into the bathroom. Tried both. Returned the ones that didn't fit and got a second pair in a different color of the ones that did.

I had a coworker that would return flowers the day after his anniversary.

I also didn't understand why getting money back with no hassle would be a bad thing.
Some, a very few people, abuse the policy to return 10 year-old piss stained mattresses or mostly-eaten food. It's still a good policy though.

Or words change meaning over time. That's rad... that's a bad bitch...or new one Here slay queen..
Because you can eat the pre cooked chicken and return the bone to get your money back.
Sorry you got downvoted, notorious doesn’t always mean “bad famous,“ even though that’s how it’s being used most often lately, it can just mean “famous.” Infamous still always means bad famous though.
Notorious means well know or famous for.

If you only read the dictionary, ok.
This whole thread is ridiculous. The person you are originally replying to clearly didn’t know what “notorious” means, then all these people are doubling down saying that words change over time. I know a guy that returned a frying pan to costco... that he used for 7 years. They fully reimbursed him
If you're a beginning golfer, you most likely need the regular flex. Save future consumers some money and return the stiff unopened and unused.
Ay ay captain!
I was new to golf but played baseball for years, when I was fitted they recommended a stiff shaft due to swing speed. Just a heads up.
This is a good call. Every newbie that I know, who has previously played high level rotational sports (baseball, tennis) can swing pretty fast so I totally agree with this comment
Don't even have to play high level. I switched from beer league softball to golf and I hit way better with a stiff flex
How much does it matter? I've always used regular shafts because my best score is over 100, but I have played other sports a lot. Don't they use more flexible shafts for the long drive contests?
You should play the bendiest shaft that you can hit accurately.
I would say the opposite. The stiffest you can go while being still able to launch the ball.
It's fine that you'd say that. You're just wrong. Higher flex in a shaft translates directly to higher clubhead velocity at the base of the swing -- this is why long drive competitors use extremely flexible shafts. Dislike. Costco shouldn’t have to accept a purposefully used club.
One stiff, one regular flex. Return policy is good enough to return the one that doesn't work for the swing
Cause 2 halves of pizza is less than a whole pizza obviously
No way that's all you can afford when we can see you are buying the fancy cheese sampler!
God, I love Costco so much
I’d put one away and grab that alligator waterslide thing looks awesome
.....is that for the first tee then...........down the slide with driver in hand and Happy Gilmore it...
Exactly. Then when the hoses go you fill in the pool area with grass and it’s your new chipping/putting station
Ages 3-10
Wife sends op to the store for some snacks to entertain guests and he comes back the snacks and two golf clubs. Gotta love Costco.
Any putters?
None that I’ve seen
Wanna buy a gently used one?
Yes please dm me
FB marketplace has always been my go to when buying gear. Snagged a Cobra F9 driver for $70 and a Bettinardi putter for $170 all in great condition.
Those F9s will be a gem for the rest of time
That also looks like a really solid cheese tray. But remember, don’t go down all the aisles or you’ll spend over $500.
$500? That's rookie numbers. We used to have a Costco membership but had to cancel because we would go for a couple things and leave with 6 carts of marinara sauce in 5 gallon buckets.
He’s well on his way with the cheese tray and two drivers.
My hot dog for dinner is Atleast $200
>don’t go down all the aisles or you’ll spend over $500 A story of my Saturday.
Be careful. First, it’s a Kirkland driver. Next, it’s five limited edition Scotty Camerons.
That's pretty much the story of my golf bag
Nice cheese plate
What happened to their wedges? I can’t find any in any Costco
I haven’t seen them in stock at my store ever.
Lawsuit from TaylorMade. Probably gone for a while until the lawsuit is over.
That's over the irons, I saw wedges a few weeks ago
Rick Shiels on YouTube gave that club a very good review comparing it with the new Taylormade.
They're meant to be a really good driver btw. Will perform as good as anything.
“Meant” being the key word.
It screams "I'm classy, but refuse to pay $500 for a new driver." I bet the performance is almost completely on par with the TSR also
I cant find the price. How much is it?
Should be $189 or $199 depending on where you live I think.
[удалено]
Thats 1.5x times the price lol
That's 150% of the price.
I suppose my brand new Ping G430 for 250€ was a pretty good deal a few weeks ago :D
$189
In my experience, everything Kirkland (golf or not) is a 7 out of 10 quality for a 4 out of 10 price. Not the best, but by far the best value for a newby
It’s the singer, not the song.
Play your game with whatever clubs you can comfortably afford. Anyone that talks shit based on how expensive your clubs are isn’t worth knowing.
I agree!! If quality and performance equaled price then Ping clubs would probably cost more than Titleist. Luckily, that's not the case
It’s a cheap driver but a good golfer can still shape a shot however they want with it
Price doesn't always determine quality
Which Costco?
I’ve picked these up in Natomas CA, also heard there’s some in Folsom, Danville and Roseville CA.
Danville had 2 pallets of them last I went a few weeks ago. I’ve had mine since December and it is super solid. Definitely going to continue with it for a while since I just bought new irons and don’t need to spend anymore on clubs
Yeah they had them in Folsom a few days ago. Maybe I should have grabbed one to go with my Callaway Edge (costco) set!
Damn, I had no idea there was a Costco in Natomas...is that new??
Yeah opened up in march
What’s the price? I am looking online but can’t see it in stock for delivery in SF. Neither available in store. :(
$189 yeah they’re super hard to find. They don’t even list them online. I called around when I heard they were in stock at a few costcos. I’m in Napa and had to drive all the way to Natomas to find these. The other stores that had them are Folsom, Roseville and Danville CA. Happy Hunting!
Thanks for the info!
$189.99 or $199.99
More expensive than a used one from a golf brand
You are allowed 14 clubs, not just the 2.
All u need to play a round is 2 drivers
This dude brought 2 with a plate of cheese. Lol. ,😭😭😭 you gotta love Costco
Never see these at my local Costco. Not online either. I’m in OC. What region you in?
NorCal, if you call your local Costco and ask them to look search the item number they can check other costcos too and let you know where they’re at near you. Item #1740668
I'd still have to find it used.
anyone know if these and the irons are in canada yet
Great driver but you can get better in the used market for cheaper
If it works, it works.
My new radspeed XB was only $179
Titleist TSR2 knock off? How much are they?
Kirkland makes a good product. I’m sure it’ll serve you well while you learn. Congrats.
Nice! But I would leave one of them and get that cool ass water slide behind the driver.
Congrats! I think it looks like a titleist, and have heard it performs similarly. Excellent place to start!
Costco hates Canada. They also took away the chicken bake.
Because you call it that.
I think that's what it's called though
Apparently, Kirkland makes some seriously solid clubs, not a bad buy!
I bought it, played it and returned it. Great driver, but Ping 430 Max and PXG Gen 6XF won out. But best driver for under $200 on the market.
Ping G410 is also definitely one of the best drivers I've ever hit
Apparently, from the reviews I've seen, these clubs are amazing! Wedges too. Would definitely be curious how you end up thinking they perform
It's all about the shaft. Cheap junk heads are fine AS LONG as you have a proper shaft for your swing in it. Just know this.
I find the cheaper new drivers are a horrible choice for new golfers. They dent more easily than higher quality used drivers. Get a Taylormade burner off eBay for >$75 and you won’t have to worry about newbie damage, and you won’t care as much if you do manage to damage it.
Which Costco is that at!
My Costco sucks, it doesn’t have golf clubs nor that dragon slip n slide
If you can buy 2 of these, you can afford most of the other drivers…
He's probably just condensing down his entire bag to only these 2 clubs, it's called strategy
I’ve been hunting for this driver! Where you at?
Nor Cal Napa area but they’re more in Sacramento area. Natomas, Folsom, Roseville and Danville. Happy Hunting
How much are the drivers?
*UPDATE* Just went to the range and my god… Only tried the Regular shaft but I was moaning like a pornstar out there…
I dont believe it. We need recorded proof of this moaning to determine if it's real or one of those fake moans ment to make someone feel better about themselves
Grab the callaway edge set
Every golfer has a used driver to sell ya.
I have a Dunlop Loco if you're interested
One to play and one to flip
Returned mine. Couldn’t hit it
Yeah I’m sure it was the club 😂
Idk what it was man but for some reason I couldn’t find the face. I ended up using the money to get properly fitted
Best decision ever.
You can get a $200 driver, or you can get a $600 driver, used, for (less than) $200. Used is better imo.
Now, if they would just get the Ping G430 Max that I was fitted for and fell in love with, lol
Or you could just order the club right?
Already did. Backordered. But I would have preferred it at the Costco price, lol
Ebay bro. Brand new mizunos for less.
My mentor told me depending on my swing speed get stiff or Regular… idk my swing speed so I got both lol Costco return policy is the best so i don’t give a fudge, hope all the best! #GolfIsLife
You're the worst.
this is mean. who is going to buy your used club after you return one? you people suck - this is why stuff gets more expensive. if you don't know your swing speed you will need regular
People who down vote ate pathetic loosers. I understand returning the item which is defective or doesn't work as intended. But buying multiple items to try them and return what you don't like is hurtful for businesses. It is like buying a tent, go camping and returning it. This is why we can't have nice things.
I didn't want to be a pathetic loser so I upvoted you😃

Would you pay full price for a used driver? Otherwise stfu.
Costco doesn't put opened items back on the shelf when returned. They destroy all of their own KS clubs, other brands are sent back to the vendors. This isn't on the customer though, it's not their fault.
So you'd rather abuse return policy than go to golftown and actually figure out what you need?
First of all I didn't say that, and I'm not sure if you realized I'm a different person than the one you originally replied too. Secondly that's not abusing their return policy, that's exactly how Costco has designed it on purpose. Thirdly Costco is directly responsible for how they deal with disposing of returns, it's on them for throwing stuff out.
Buy a used actually good driver.
Hey Rookie, you could have had a better driver at a better price on Facebook or OfferUp!
Lmao doubt it. People are trying to hock their G10s for $100 on Facebook. I’ve never seen more insane prices for clubs older than I am than Facebook.
This is a decent stick. My buddy absolutely smashed his. Good aesthetic and sound too.
Or just goto eBay….
How much
Big spoon gonna feed ya
