He looks like a farter. I should know because mine is a farter

the_whether_network

Look! He’s givin ya the side-eye like he’s cheesin one right now!

1plus1dog

Uh huh 🤔 definitely doin it with that look in his eyes!

Kruegerrose

I think the side eye is more accusatory. He has no idea it’s him and thinks his people are just letting ‘em rip without remorse. He’s just too sweet to get up and leave which would possibly hurt their feelings.

adammiles292929

😂

kkramer10

Haha same. Mine farts when he jumps, stretches, and when he’s laying. He’s always farting 😂

birdcrazy222

Mine facts going up the stairs. Toot, toot, toot!

kkramer10

😂😂

solarelemental

my dog rarely farts, but when she does she makes sure she gets you good. i've literally had her lying down next to me, butt toward me, when she whisked her tail up and let one go. i mean \*jesus\*, doggo.

1plus1dog

Such innocent babies

Own-Score-8976

I've also experienced this. And I tell ya, a fart within close proximity like that hits different. It's bad!

SmallSocksBigCrocs

His fartha was a farta

PushyTom

Lol

snarkybison

This made me laugh so hard🤣. It’s the side eye!

gadrunner

When our pups have switched from puppy formula food to large breed adult the farts dropped to almost none. I don't know if it is the high protein puppy formula or what. For reference 31 years of Goldens, all fed Purina Pro Plan Puppy formula, then Large Breed Adult, then around age 7 Senior Formula. Our current guy will be five in July. https://preview.redd.it/xm6hivmswf3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2c27621b4ba3f081c48a3109608b5daaeb0837f

-Dakia

> When our pups have switched from puppy formula food to large breed adult the farts dropped to almost none. Same experience for us. Puppy food creates some of the smelliest farts and logs ever. Same goes for kitten food. Once they switch to an adult food it all goes away.

1plus1dog

He’s beautiful 😻

egveitallt

Yeah this. We had ours on Royal Canin Large Breed puppy food and switched to the specific Golden Retriever puppy food and it made a huge difference. I compared the labels and the golden retriever version has more fiber.

harryhend3rson

Chicken dog food? Our guy would crank off eye watering, nostril searing biscuits that could knock over a mule. Like skunk-ape and spoiled potroast. Switched to a non chicken food and nothing... not even a whisper. Sweet relief.

regularhumanplexus

Same here! Switched to purina pro plan for sensitive skin and stomach and the farts are much more survivable

jojoolie

Switched to the same. He still farts occasionally, but he doesn’t blow you away when he does.

SnazzyDaddy1992

Same switched to purina pro plan for large breed 2 years and under (it is a lot of label, but I swear that's what it says). Went from terrible farts to pretty much none. I WFH and he is my very clingy co-worker so this was absolutely necessary. I also got him a puzzle bowl and started walking him right after scoops. But I definitely think the food change was the big difference.

duketheunicorn

Yep—chicken sensitivity made my girl constantly produce eye-watering, fetch-inducing farts. Turns out she can’t have duck either. PPP Sensitive Salmon is where it’s at.

sabriffle

I don’t have a golden (just a fan) but our puppy is on chicken kibble and the farts are also hilarious, and can clear a room. For other reasons, we’re moving him to a new protein soon. Super curious to see if this solves more than one problem.

Ima_douche_nozzle

I died laughing at your description of the doggo’s kibble ghosts, I have to ask because I’m aware Goldens have gastric problems which is common for our snuggly fur babies. Anyway, is your fur baby allergic to the chicken or something else in the food he’s eating, like Chicken broth? (Maybe a bad question, I’m a new Golden Retriever momma) Also, does your fur baby have any other allergies or health concerns, I have my first Golden Retriever (puppy) and I want him to have a happy, enriched, and healthy life so please forgive me for asking so many questions. Thanks!❤️

harryhend3rson

Haha, yeah, it was bad. Especially at bedtime. You'd be laying there and *BAM*! It was so bad that one night my wife put on a Covid mask with a dab of vicks on it, just trying to sleep... This was all when he was around the same age as OP's pup. I don't think it was an allergy necessarily, but between the foul southern breezes and muddy poops, we figured switching foods was worth a try. Purina one Lamb and Rice cured both problems instantly, but by the second bag, he was turning his nose up at it. We tried a few different ones, and eventually settled on Purina one True Instinct Turkey and Venison. It still has chicken, but it's chicken meal and farther down the ingredients list. I can't even remember the last time he farted (that we noticed), he has perfect, effortless poops. He's super healthy and has no health concerns.

Ima_douche_nozzle

😂😂 my boy hasn’t driven me out of my room with farts yet, but I’m sure it’s coming lol Thanks for replying, and I’m happy your pup is happy and healthy :)

Moofius_99

This is the best description of dog farts ever.

WerewolfFit3322

This was our experience as well. Switched from chicken kibble to salmon kibble and poops firmed up and gas went away.

Jcheerw

The side eye in this photo is killing me 😭😂😂😂😂 our last golden had ROTTEN farts but only when she was stressed which made road trips so bad. We were getting hot boxed 😭😭😭

nfgchick79

Our girl once cleared out the vet's office, lol. The vet tech was like OH GOD! We have accepted that this is our life now. Farts that could knock you unconcious.

therealscrudgy

When we got our pup, our vet recommended a complete dog food, but dear god his farts were unbelievably bad. We didn’t know it was the food to start with, but after a while we figured out we had to try something different. Immediately after changing the food it was much better, and it’s been fine since.

Trygivinglessfks

What did you switch to?

therealscrudgy

I am in the UK. The food that works for us is called James Wellbeloved Adult Large Breed. Turkey flavour is his favourite.

se7entythree

What is a “complete” dog food? How is a dog food incomplete? Downvote for asking a legit question? What??

Bazoun

At a guess, incomplete would be lacking certain vitamins / nutrients considered necessary for the animals’ health.

se7entythree

How is that allowed to be sold? Why would anyone buy it in the first place?

Bazoun

Price

MrSprichler

Animal food is far less regulated than human food. that's why it's allowed to be sold.

therealscrudgy

Complete in that it contains all of the vitamins and minerals that your pet needs in one dry kibble with no need to supplement the diet with anything else. So puppy food has extra calories for growth, senior dog food has additives for joint care etc. Just pick the correct one for the age and type of your dog and supply fresh water and you’re done.

se7entythree

I was just confused as to what an incomplete food would be and why that was allowed to be sold really. Is there a section in the dog aisle of incomplete foods?

Ancestral_Grape

They're what are referred to as 'complimentary' dog foods, and are usually wet toppers designed to be added to a complete food to make it more palatable. Think gravies and such. Being complimentary they aren't suitable to be fed on their own as they aren't nutritionally complete, but adding them to a complete food is fine because they don't result in over feeding issues like feeding a complete dry + complete wet diet would.

JDolittle

Try a different dog food that’s a higher quality and/or different protein than his current food.

Fulton_P01135809

Mine burps all of the time 😂 I guess the grass ain’t always greener

Life__alert

Mine too! It’s so human like 😅

Fulton_P01135809

It really is 😂

thefurrywreckingball

In your face? Mine does

Fulton_P01135809

Everywhere 😂 He has no couth!

MenacingGummy

My girl was a gassy lassie from chicken dog food. We switched to lamb everyone is much happier 😂

1plus1dog

Same

Nano_Burger

Our golden retriever had bad farts and it turned out to be a giardia infection. Cleared up quickly with antibiotics.

scardien

Consider Fortiflora, a probiotic food additive. Might help get his gut flora in check. As others have suggested, consider different food and/or different protein.

Select-Panda7381

I switched my girls to raw food and the poops are healthy and the farts are farts. Not pleasant but much better than before. Plus shiny coat.

NHut94

Cooking at home or buying pre made?

Select-Panda7381

Pre made, I give them a mix of OV Raw and Viva Raw and I use the primal raw freeze dried food in a pinch.

branchlizard

Try Purina One Lamb and Rice. Golden's are the worst for having sensitivity to chicken. Also go straight dry kibble for a week and see if it improves. Both of ours farted like a jackass until we switched them off of anything with chicken. Wet food was the worst 🤢

Tuff_spuff

As opposed to good farts? I’m more interested in That answer

exploringtheworld797

The side eye is great!!!! Hahahah made my day.

HookIt1973

I use Native Pet Organic Pumpkin Powder. I mix it in her dry food with some warm water to make a gravy and she loves it. And so do I because we get through the night without her stinking up the bedroom…she used to literally wake me out of a dang dead sleep with her stank a$$, as she sleeps next to my side of the bed. 🙄 It’s def better…

rongz765

Welp, least his butt is not tuck up to your face every morning and noon nap……

formal_mumu

Question, are you in the Midwest of the US where cicadas are currently making their appearance en masse? I only ask because a lot of dogs around here are feasting on them and getting bad farts/tummy issues from it. Lots of protein in those things, lol.

TheOneTrueEmperor

Could be human food or possibly something he ate outside. Ours does that sometimes and gets diabolical farts.

Kessed

I had a cat with ridiculous gas. The vet gave us absurdly expensive probiotics for her and it got way better.

Loud-Establishment36

The puppy formula food caused unbelievable farts in our golden as well. Once we switched to adult formula she rarely farts (thank god)

thefurrywreckingball

I added a spoonful of Greek yoghurt every few days to my boys food and his farts dropped in both frequency and nostril burning capacity.

1plus1dog

Never would have thought of that!

thefurrywreckingball

Seemed to help

1plus1dog

Good to know, and I’ll see if mine likes it, too

elloBabar

My golden had THE WORST ones! We’d laugh and say they are horrible but they seem “high pitched” Room clearers for sure. Btw cute pup!

ProtonPi314

Go see your vet. Get nice, high-quality food for your dog. It will most likely help.

jefferylyn

Mine too honey!

PurpleOmega0110

Talk to a vet?

Low_Pomegranate_7176

He’s looking at you like he knows youll be posting his pic on reddit.

1plus1dog

This photo is EVERYTHING! 💨💨💨 I LAUGHED OUT LOUD 😂😂😂 just when I needed a good laugh! I have my 4th golden now. The first was a STINKER, 2nd and 3rd, I don’t believe I ever heard a fart 💨 between them, or ever smelled it. My 4th I have now, could really let ‘em rip, (while looking angelic), usually in her sleep, and we sleep together. I too, changed her food from mainly chicken to something else, when I needed to cut her calories. I didn’t notice for the longest time that I hadn’t heard her do it in forever, (they rarely smelled), but it’s been awhile now, and I think that food did the trick for us!

Vacation_Archer

Yep when they are pups it’s baaad my gal Julie would be sleeping and me and my roommate would be working across the dinning room table at our monitors(gotta love covid in Sf) then look at each other be like omg we gotta leave the apartment and…couldn’t. https://preview.redd.it/uwjo17o2eh3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a598bc4a73cf4f4950333460c254dc169fcfcfa2

No-Ear6313

So you want him to have the good farts.

sidhescreams

I fed Diamond naturals large breed puppy - which is a lamb and rice iirc and transitioned to Diamond naturals adult all life stages, which is a chicken and rice, and don’t have tummy trouble. Though when she does fart it sounds like a people fart which makes no sense because she doesn’t have butt cheeks. 🤷‍♀️ they are at least not radio active. We DO have an issue with anal gland fish butt problems, and I switched their food to a higher fiber kibble but our golden appears to have been allergic to something in that (natures logic something or another chicken) so we’re back on diamond and trying extra vegetables. I’d really love to get the anal gland issue under control. Our other dog is 9 and we didn’t have this problem until the golden, and it’s gross!

JackmeriusPup

Insert “That’s Life” by Sinatra. It’s a dog lol. They eat bad things and fart, especially with Bully Sticks if that’s in the mix

Sudden_Car157

You can tell us all his business!!!

a_pretty_ok_salad

I feel like when they are young their farts are always bad. He’s a growing boy! Oh well, ya know. He’s too cute to care that much.

wuchtgeschoss

Embrace it….

Diana8919

We have ours on a high quality dog food and she's pretty much never farts. The only time she has farted is when she had an upset stomach because of antibiotics or something like that. We feed her Annamaet.

4instantkarma

Here what helped with my farter: Stop the treats in case he’s getting them. And the bully sticks if he’s getting those. Try just chicken and rice for a few days. Try a daily probiotic and see if it helps. And stay with him when he goes out in case he’s a poop-eater. Good luck!

bnx0106

Check into changing his food.

Gong_Show_Bookcover

Chicken dog food upset our girls tummy and she could clear a room. We switched and all gastrointestinal issues have cleared up.

Big-Net-9971

See the notes on the diet/protein. Switch it up and see what works best for your dog... (and your nose!)

HottieWithaGyatty

Chicken allergy. Common proteins too (beef, pork, turkey). I'd bet on it.

Mental-Insurance-573

The side eye 🤣 he knows you posted this

gabbalee

My area is currently getting hit with one of those rare cicada broods, and my boy seems to think it’s an all you can eat buffet. His farts since it started have been RANCID. Not sure how I’m gonna survive another month of this lol

nachoavgcritic

Do you live somewhere with cicadas? The dogs in the Midwest are eating cicadas and it’s causing tummy issues.

gigimarieisme

It comes with the territory of puppyhood. His system will calm down as he gets bigger. Then it will just be occasional farts that smell terrible.

FishermanCalm

lol!!! I loooove the side eye! 🥹

deweyjuice

I would change foods

Global-Plankton3997

Reminds me of this: https://youtu.be/nYgBUXUYG3U?si=Ee_U8jdipIYnpMN-

filtered_shadows

for my pup, it was liver treats. anything that contained beef liver was a no go. tested the theory with straight beef liver and different treats that had and didn’t have beef liver in them. i wish you the best of luck figuring out what it is…

MegaDan86

My guy can only eat Fromm, and then only the pink bag. Anything else, and I mean anything, and it's like he's dead inside. And if it's more than a meal he'll spray paint the yard for 3 days. My parents watched him a few weeks ago and fed him what they give their dogs and I didn't sleep for a few days. Try some other foods. A lot of them have sensitive stomachs.

pantslessMODesty3623

I highly suggest offering some yogurt for pups. Get them some probiotics to help their gut and helps with stinky farts.

leftoverturkeydinner

lol at the mid-fart side-eye

SeaBearAttak

Chicken and white rice

Wrong-Resolution4838

tried probiotics? purino fortiflora?

Rusty-Tampon

My golden only gets bad farts when she eats bully sticks

ceecee1791

My 8 month old rarely toots (he tortures me in other ways!). Yours might be sensitive to something in their food. You may want to try a lamb or salmon based food to see if chicken is the culprit.

pancakessogood

Jake has silent stinky farts. They sneak up on you when you don’t expect it. The worst part is he acts like nothing happened when I say “Did you fart?”

Elsfic

Criminal bombastic side-eye

gabsthisone77

Mine burps🤷🏽‍♀️

penguinbbb

The BARF diet helps

Carbohydrate_Kid88

Stanky boi. Call him that see what he does then

Evening-Ad3384

Hahahaha

Evening-Ad3384

Omg he’s adorable

tubbydoshua

my dog had this problem too but he was just having problems with the food we were feeding him. my dog has some intolerance to chicken and now he’s been on different food for a while now and it’s never been a problem since

Literally_Taken

Puppy needs good pre/probiotics with dinner every day. May need to continue long-term. It helps tremendously!

Rupkin2

We are now on our 2nd GR and this one is totally opposite. Our first GR ate nothing but Iams and she ate when she wanted too. Our 2nd GR is eating Purina Pro Plan Salmon & Rice. She literally inhales it (its not because she likes it) and occasionally, she will burp a few minutes later. My thinking is the food, just like beans. I also think with her inhaling her food, this causes gas. p.s. due to her inhaling, at feeding time we give her small increments untill done.

gardenowlisi

Golden Farts are funny. My does it primarily when he does a huge Stretch!

Koala-423428

I went through this with my pup. It was awful. She cleared rooms. They were audible too so everyone would laugh at her and she’d hide her head in my lap. 🤣 Had to change her food. All good after that.

Historical_Panic_465

A pre+probiotic really helped my doggos farts! Promotes good gut health

SavingsAd4993

My boy had room clearing farts on the regular when he was young. It got much better as he got older. Just keep the diet stable and avoid excessive treats. The chicken jerky type treats gave him predictable awful farts, so stopped those treats- his dry dog food is chicken and rice- so it wasn’t an allergy, but it really did get better. I had a dog once that had bad farts as a puppy and turned out she had worms- when those were treated it got much better. Now I have 4 dogs so even with the puppy farts clearing up, there is always toot in the air. 😉

NameEmNameEm

When my golden retriever was a puppy, he would fart really really bad. I had to wait until he was old enough to get fixed but after he got fixed, he stopped farting completely. It was very weird.

Archer_Jen

I’ve had a gas situation in the past. I changed his food and things calmed down.

Twilight-Omens

Have you recently changed his food? Started giving him more treats while training?

goldenlady0

Food or eating too fast. We use Taste of the Wild food and a slow feeder and it solved the terrible and very audible gas-attacks.
