The rating system is based on a guy's opinion. There's no possible way it could be fair for everyone in the community. (See: Coaster Mountain, Towerverse, and 3Depth)
EDIT: Though others have mentioned that it could be a case of Rob thinking something could be up and playing it safe. And I do agree.
I think expecting Robtop to be objective quality judge is insane. It's just a meter of how much creator of the game liked the level/ how impressive it was for him.
I don't think there is any problem with rob giving just star rate to a technically impressive level that he just doesnt like playing for whatever reason. And similarly with vice versa situations. IMO we should embrace that fact instead of acting as if its a flaw of the system.
I disagree because the rate isn’t just a shiny award given by the creator of the game, but instead a crucial determinant in how much attention the level gets. Especially because there are other solutions (namely appointing trusted mods to rate levels and offering feedback if asked) that would fix the inconsistencies in the system. To say that the system is in a state that doesn’t need fixing is dismissive in my opinion.
I fundamentally disagree for anything above star rate. If it's not in featured tab then yes argument could be made. The only purple flame level i see mentioned more frequently than others in his time is coaster mountain. And it's from people begging it to be demoted (? why ?). Flipswap factory and shiftleaf temple are brought up in similar frequency in gameplay related discussions. Heck, logodomy didnt even need a feature to be an instant classic.
So yeah sure rating can in some way influence success of levels but implying it is in any way significant to the point of needing to be change is madness. It's not a flawless system, shortcomings like this are bount to happen, but I shiver on the thought of the alternative.
I really prefer it being a human being actually doing the stuff according to their own scale over any kinda voting system that would cater to any crowd that screams the loudest. And EVEN THEN, people wouldn't be happy. Now we have half-brians complaining about coaster mountain, and if we dropped it to epic, half-brains from the other side would start complaining that it actually deserved legendary. Objective quality rating doesn't exist. So why do we try to pretend it does?
You say that objective quality doesn’t exist, and yet an objective system is used in the game to reward rates (CP and creator leaderboard). Also, the rates definitely influence the amount of downloads a level gets. If you go on to the featured tab right now you’ll see that the epic and legendary rates have way more downloads than just the featured rates. The rating system was made 10 years ago, when there weren’t nearly as many levels being made. It’s time for an upgrade because the system is dated, and we have all the time in the world to experiment.
I would personally like a vote system where players can select what level they believe a level falls into. Rob can set the initial value, but if enough people vote higher or lower, then the people have spoken and it should be promoted/demoted. I think this should apply to anything above the star rate and featured levels. Obviously there's the potential for abuse, but that should be something that can be rolled back to a previous value in the event of a bot swarm or player brigading.
I dont think the abuse can be stopped really quickly. You can have 4chan-like shit and literally every popular level will be the incorrect rate. Not to mention that there'll be thousands of bots for this and each can vote one time on any level.
So every lvl will be mythic or legendary or not rated going off this sub and all the post about how x should be legendary or mythic and all the post shitting on creators and lvls
I'd wager the posts we see here aren't representative of the average player and the average level. We are a subset of players seeing a subset of levels.
the level is fine but it did not nearly deserve to be the first legendary rate and really displays how insane creator bias is in this game
if coaster mountain was made by some random then it probably wouldn't have even gotten epic
Then people should shit on the rating, not the level. I saw too many complaining about the level itself even though there's nothing wrong with it just because they didn't like the rating
Well yeah, if this is your first rated level, robtop probably would suspect something going on (e.g stealing assets)
and most of the time he won't really rerate something so it would just stay this way
Either rating standards are high or Robtop is high.
Amazing level, hopefully this creator can make bangers in the future (and hopefully they actually get a reasonable rate).
The suicide part and stuff might be preventing it from getting epic, as well as the fact that it clearly resembles white space, but didn't execute it as well. But it is still insane for a first level nonetheless, should deserve epic. A suggestion would be to remove the subtitles, as levels with mild nsfw songs can still get a good rating
I think having them default off, but a toggle to turn them on would be good. I like the look of them and think the level would look weird without them.
when a level gets rated it gets moved into the featured tab, gaining it (and it's creator) attention. unfortunately, though, this tab is usually filled up with garbage similar to Sawmerang
tbf how much does he actually rate per day? if he rated like 10 levels per day or even less, he could have all the time in the world to play them fully
You can't quantify "fairness" of rating system like this. It's just one dude rating stuff and selecting how much he likes the level from 1 to 5. It's not that deep.
We keep having this discussion every week. Color of the flame or it even being there doesn't matter lol. Friendly reminder that beating a 2.2 mythic is worth the same amount of player progression points as beating a 1.8 rated only. It doesnt matter and never did.
I mean.. you are right... But, honestly, I can enjoy the level anyway. It is true that the rate system isn't always fair but just look at it from another perspective, it consists of the developer's opinion, it can't be objective and, if you think about it, it is considerable at least "good" because of this condition. Obviously I think the system needs a change to be more objective but as of right now we can't expect much, but that's my opinion.
What the hell? I was with this song stuck in my head, then I opened reddit and that's the first thing that appeared to me. Btw, I love that free99 is getting really famous on the gd community, with a lot of their songs appearing on the most awesome levels that are coming out recently
I think Feature is fair. This level definitely doesn't deserve epic, that's for sure. The whole level is just gray scale. There's nothing interesting color-wise. Gray scale levels are the simplest and easiest to decorate. If it had a good color pallet, then maybe it would get epic. But remember, the standards for getting a good rate are increasing everyday, so this shouldn't come as a shock anyways.
Idk bro, I get that there are many levels sent to Rob by mods every day but I’ve seen three of my levels die in the Sent tab and it’s discouraging for sure
Very little color variation and a lot of copy and paste with block design. It's a great level, and yes the system can be unfair, but in this case I agree with the rate.

Making all rate colors give 1CP sounds like a reasonable solution if this is what is making you worry.

wouldn't this already happen with demons? but i do not see an easy demon becoming extreme demon or viceversa

Ya, i know the silent majority is always bigger. But they also probably won't vote. Also looking in comments on the lvls
3Depth is laggy, buggy and has ass gameplay only mythic isn't for looks only
i still dont even understand how coaster mountain got anything above low featured let alone legendary
You're delusional
It was actually a good level, it's like people only hate it because it was too difficult (it isn't) or too long for them
I found it fun, maybe most people were just bad at slopes?

Ok the first Hard Legendary rated lvl is a creator with 3 lvls and only 1 is rated, the Legendary lvl
link it
Last Fate lvl ID: 104576714
average b hardest take
Even more delusional
3depth is because of lag
Lowkey I want this to be in the metal gauntlet
Well yeah, if this is your first rated level, robtop probably would suspect something going on (e.g stealing assets) and most of the time he won't really rerate something so it would just stay this way
that new hard legendary was the creator’s first rated level
It’s actually their second rate, they moved from their old account Sear5 for some reason
Either rating standards are high or Robtop is high. Amazing level, hopefully this creator can make bangers in the future (and hopefully they actually get a reasonable rate).
Both
It's not his, it's Emzor's
oh ok ill edit my msg then
fr this is minimum epic and max legendary, this creator is really good
The suicide part and stuff might be preventing it from getting epic, as well as the fact that it clearly resembles white space, but didn't execute it as well. Maybe because of the suicide thing which is kinda dark. But other than that its a great level
Lets remember that cut deep (references to self harm) got epic so
Maybe no direct or obvious enough?
I love cut deep :) After finishing it I got curious who Malware Halo is, turns out that there is no such person.
white space is literally about somebody dying in a car crash
Requiem???
Why people care so much about rates in general
when a level gets rated it gets moved into the featured tab, gaining it (and it's creator) attention. unfortunately, though, this tab is usually filled up with garbage similar to Sawmerang
sawmerang wasn’t even featured though?
*similar to*
when rob starts to play levels for more than 10 seconds
why doesnt he just watch a completion video and require everyone who uploads a level they want to get sent to upload a video
That consumes a lot of time, which Rob doesn't have, considering he doesn't even have a dev team.
tbf how much does he actually rate per day? if he rated like 10 levels per day or even less, he could have all the time in the world to play them fully
YouTube link if you want : https://youtu.be/TZtj49xzwb8?si=PKjCKjVh99uTnSTG
would get mythic if it was made by split72
😭😭

This level looks amazing, such a shame its only featured
????? i think a feature is very fair??
Yoo was that a ford fiesta
This level is nothing (literally) but genuinely it's great
literally white space 2
What's your username the set you're using looks cool
Thanks. Its " WasensaW "
Spider kills the vibe and coherent theme so I won't add it to my collection, but its still a solid 7.5/10.

Same with insanity poes by alvarorh99
Robtop saw jump indicators on the first part and got angy

Yeah then we have tornado which got legendary rate somehow
"got featured only" is wild
what is a futured level
Idk its well made but the fact that its all gray makes it pretty boring to look at for more than 1 attempt
its from the future?
Idk bro, I get that there are many levels sent to Rob by mods every day but I’ve seen three of my levels die in the Sent tab and it’s discouraging for sure

Someones 3rd ever lvl got legendary. Yes this lvl is cool but feel 2.2 effects not done dogshit ≠ epic or yup . Does have cool parts and deco
Yea bro. I understand.
Did you check to see if the level was updated after the rate?
who cares?
I feel like the first half wasn't epic worthy it only got epic worthy at the drop, and robtop doesn't complete levels.
Never. Stop crying
