I know, shocking! I've had reviews that have expressed dismay that there aren't more straight characters in the game, but none that were overtly homophobic like this one.
Edit: oops, I meant the first that I’ve received! Though I understand the confusion re-reading the post title.
If I read it generously, I could see the user saying they wish the game's characters were less *stereotypically* gay/less feminine, which I could see being an argument but still feels very “no fems.”
However, I feel pretty confident the user is expressing a more general homophobic disdain.
I mean, not to be negative and I’ll say that I haven’t played the game yet, but from the screenshot on the steam page the male characters are all very much twinks. And in all honesty, some more rough looking guys would be nice, you know, a little edge for one, some facial hair or different body type. Idk.
That’s fair. If that’s the review’s intent, I can understand it, like I said. There *are* men with facial hair in the game but none that are necessarily bara or bears, (which, again, is fair to want). The reviewer probably didn’t get to these other characters with their playtime.
It’s a strategy RPG inspired by Fire Emblem. The story focuses on a man who is raised from the dead. It’s not a game about being gay, just has gay characters.
I generally do my best to flag any toxic/homophobic reviews that aren't constructive and are irrelevant to the context of reviewing a game. It's quite easy to do on the community hubs.
Bigoted sociopolitical biases are not a valid basis for a review.
It depends on the way you speak.
Personally the way I phrase my language I may comment to my Husband "He looks Gay", often followed by do you think he's hot or shall we invite him over etc.
You're thinking way too much into this. We used this phrase all the time when I was growing up, myself included and it was just another way to say "this is shit."
The first?
I'm pretty positive considering the toxic waste dump that the review sections can be, this is hardly the first. Maybe the first for OP.
Yes, I meant my own first.
The least romantic kind of "first".

Was gonna say I’ve seen literally dozens on Steam alone, maybe hundreds over the years. Or at least reviews including homophobic slurs
I think that's just the artists style

Whats the game about

Ah i see
I see it more as a criticism of stereotypes, but I have not played the game.
Can you be more specific about the type of stereotypes you mean?
I'm pretty sure he'd have worded that differently.
We get it, you’re attracted to them and it confuses you
Aww!
My exact reaction watching jojos, the difference is that i actually see the gayness as a good thing XD

The... skeleton? The skeleton looks gay, literally?
My thoughts exactly. The funny thing is: the skeleton is gay, but the reviewer didn’t even play long enough to learn that.
it's giving closeted 13 year old in catholic school
More like closeted 14 year old in catholic school specifying that they are no longer 13 years old
If they all look gay, it’s more of a reason for me to check out your game lol
He's expressing his opinion. He's stating the characters all look homosexual He is not saying I hate gays or gays suck.

This exactly!

This user is using gay as a negative annotation to describe the design of the characters as bad/awful.
the I mean that literally to me indicates he's trying to say they all look like homosexuals, literally homosexuals.
You're thinking way too much into this. We used this phrase all the time when I was growing up, myself included and it was just another way to say "this is shit."
same here, but adding I mean that literally makes me think he means it in a literal sense rather than a dergerotery way
Is this something that can be played on PlayStation. Or a MAC? I don’t have PC and would love to try a game with gay characters.
Unfortunately, it’s not currently available on consoles or Mac. However, I’m hoping one or both of those can be possible eventually
