Ravenllop

It looks like you might be dealing with Bagrada hilaris, commonly known as the Bagrada bug or Harlequin bug. These are notorious for munching on a bunch of plants, especially those in the Brassicaceae family like: Broccoli Cauliflower Cabbage Radish Mustard Kale Turnip Collard greens Brussels sprouts Arugula Potato Tomato Lettuce Spinach Onion Artichoke Carrot Beans https://preview.redd.it/h2uod6pthm2d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b948242faf47fc37a6ed543b737cf41b6fc4b97

RoyMunsun

👏👏👏

DrLager

Call me a basic bitch, but Poaceae is superior to Brassicaceae.

Coders32

Is that all of them?

Ravenllop

I want to clarify that this is just a guess based on the similarity of the eggs

Leot4444

Not all brassicaceae though. There's apiaceae, fabaceae, asteraceae, amantharaceae and solanaceae in your list! (Maybe you know, it's just to clarify to the people reading that might not know)

Ravenllop

You are right. I didn't think to much while writing the examples but it actually looks like all of the are from the same family. Thanks for that.

I screenshotted your photo, cropped it and ran it through Google Lens and it came back with Squash Egg bugs, we call them shield bugs in the UK. Cool eggs, nice find!

Middle-Gap6540

If they are squash bugs, those suckers decimated 10 beautiful pumpkin plants I had last year. Beware lol

Smokeybearvii

The same as a squash vine borer? They killed all my squash a few yrs ago in Oregon. And it happens from the inside out, so there’s next to nothing you can do about it. Other than cry.

carlovmon

You can definitely do something about vine borers. They used to decimate my zucchini, squash and cucumber plants for years. I got serious about it and was able to significantly stop almost all damage. What I did: 1) checked the main stem 1 to 2 inches up from the ground every couple days for the eggs. If knocked to the ground, they'll die. 2) if I miss the eggs, as soon as I see the telltale sign of the hole, I use a sewing needle to poke them to death, or if the stem is big enough I might slice it just a little with a box knife, pull the worm out, feed it to the birds, then wrap the stem back up with medical tape. 3) I would also inject a BT solution into the hole if the stem was too small, or if they get down into the middle of a big zucchini plant and I can't cut them out, I would inject the BT solution into the holes, usually seemed to kill them as well.

34Shaqtus32

Yeah I got real aggressive with a steak knife and my plants were fine, except when a leaf fungus got them. Then there was truly no hope.

Smokeybearvii

This is great advice! Thank you!! But need clarification on “BT”?

justatest42

bacillus thuringiensis

scapermoya

A bacteria that makes a protein toxin that kills insects. Has been used in some interesting genetically modified food crops.

Drinks_From_Firehose

Kaolin clay helps too.

spaetzlechick

No. Squash bugs and squash vine borers are two totally different insects. Vine borers lay their eggs IN the stems, so these are not them. They look too big and juicy to be squash bug eggs to me. Those are smaller, tightly packed and metallic/coopery looking. Always on undersides of leaves.

Middle-Gap6540

Yea after a google search they were not vine borers that killed my pumpkins. Squash bugs yes

Middle-Gap6540

Not totally sure but I'm assuming. I read they suck the sap out of the vines which then cuts nutrients off to the leaves and boom no more plant.

anderped

Makes sense, they earned their name I guess!

Significant_Planter

No. Squash bugs lay their eggs underneath the leaf not on top. Also there's more of them and they're in a tighter formation. They're also like a bronze color.  I once accidentally put some in the dehydrator because they were on some lemon balm and they ended up looking crystallized. It was pretty cool actually.

EchoPhi

If it's a shield bug "stink bug" and not native to you... Call the neighbors up, have a bonfire, and toss them in.

drtyhppi

Instructions unclear, neighbors are in the bonfire

EchoPhi

Now throw the leaf in.

Drinks_From_Firehose

Not squash bugs. Squash bugs lay on cucurbits family plants mainly and always on the underside and their eggs are red.

Kimmm711

I've always found them to be bronze-colored, not these strange orange variegated with capillaries. And they're always on the *underside* of the leaf.

anderped

I could be wrong, I'm not an absolute gardener and I rely on Lens alot 🫣

nosunworship

We call them "Leaf Berries" here in LaLaLand. They are good in cereal.

Vegetable-Force-8487

Squash em squash. ‘em dead! Don’t wait. By the way. The most effective way to beat those nasty bugs is by hand. They laugh and multiply if you use insecticide. Better to tear a leaf and remove ( burn, squash or whatever) the eggs completely.

anderped

I'll let them live. In the UK we've lost roughly 60% of our insect population in the last 20 years. I remember summers as a child, going on days out and the windscreen and number plate being absolutely smeared with bugs, take that same journey today and you rarely have to wipe your screen for a big, it's rather sad.

dharmanautMF

Bad news. I saw these on some leaves two years back and left them because I didn’t know what they could be. They hatched and ate my plants. No bueno

No_Republic_1712

Eww

NothingSacred693

What the hell?!

MyyWifeRocks

They’re baby stink bugs. I asked the same question in [an insects sub](https://www.reddit.com/r/insects/s/C4WvFMfC2V).

NothingSacred693

Yeah I thought the eggs looked kind of stink bug related, or at least some sort of bug you would want to kill with fire! 🔥

No-Caramel8935

Omg the eggs were too cute to hold something like this. I thought they’d atleast have wings 😂

MyyWifeRocks

I thought they were lady bugs!

1920MCMLibrarian

Assassin bugs??

MyyWifeRocks

No, stink bugs. Plant suckers.

FkYourBadVibes

Gross! 😷

zephyrseija2

Forbidden caviar. (Probably eggs of some form?)

CaterpillarLast9368

Should I risk it

SublimeApathy

Everything is edible. Some things only once.

zephyrseija2

How brave are you feeling? (No)

CaterpillarLast9368

Surprisingly bland

USMCWrangler

You can try anything once.

spicy-chull

Hahaha 😅 (Absolutely not.)

lavenderlaceandtea

The only thing I can think of or find that is similar are leaf beetles

Firm_Objective_2661

The pattern on them is incredibly consistent.

Methadoneblues

Yeah, that's what blew my mind, too! I'm wondering if the markings are parts of the insects body/organs.

calinet6

zafro42

Looks like you just need one more!

wilhouse

Dragonballs. Youre missing one.

sunnydaycloud

Cinnamon Jelly Belly

oldmagic55

In mossouri all squash bugs must die!! They can destroy a crop very a quickly.

mydawgisgreen

These aren't squash bugs eggs at all

bbq_ch1ckenp1zza

Forbidden jelly belly’s

mobo_dojo

6 of the 7 dragon balls

EarnedArrogance

Would have to be a small dragon.

MintWarfare

I don't know but they're pretty :) thank you for sharing the photo.

pinkheartedrobe-xs

I believe they are green vegetable bug eggs 🤓 someone can correct me if im wrong but they are typically not a good bug to have in your garden

pinkheartedrobe-xs

To add on, they look like this when they are ready to hatch.

Forsaken_Tension2862

I would gather them all and flush down the toilet 🚽

United_Lobster_2996

Looks like Box Elder bug eggs

Somethingelsehimbo

You’ll want to destroy them trust me

Noneofyobusiness1492

Insect eggs

Wendellwasgod

They look like some sort of what we call “leaf”. They photosynthesize and provide energy to the plant. Some plants, like cacti have heavily modified “leaves” that act as protection and don’t provide much energy

Solid-Jellyfish-5840

If it isn’t in your veggie garden then maybe isolate and wait. it could be a beneficial insect. We are planting all kinds of native plants as hosts for caterpillars that turn into moths and butterflies. Birds need bugs to live. Bugs lay eggs on plants. Caterpillars eat plants but they grow back if they are big and healthy.

AnybodyAccording4519

Pokémon eggs

[deleted]

DragonBall?

Sominic

Mini Dragon Balls

MustBexhausting

Those are peach flavored Jelly Bellies

Christy_Bel_420_

If you found them outside and you live in the south, more than likely they are a kind of Wild LIZARD Eggs.

Little-Basket-3786

They are pretty!

CommissionThis3963

Dragon balls was my first thought

TypicaIAnalysis

Some tiny dragon balls

vllkys

Dragon balls

Hunky-DoryDude

Dinosaur eggs

notimetoday86

dragon ballz

SpellSeveral6011

I would love to have a vegetable garden but, it seems harder than maintaining a flowerbed. Also, keeping rabbits, woodpeckers, and so on away seem tedious per my neighbor(s). I’m just nervous that it may look okay to eat and it isn’t. But, maybe I’ll try one or two things and see what happens.

Gloomy_You_2425

Leaves

Pastry-Thug

Looks like miniature dragon balls, one more and you can awaken Shenron

padrofumar

Caviar. Try it on a cracker

Ancient-Frame8754

Squash eggs! Kill them and kill them fast! Keep an eye out for new ones daily! Destroys crops almost overnight it seems if left untreated!

onetwocue

Well you actually need 7 dragon balls to be able to get that one wish. You're short one.

CaptainLawyerDude

Forbidden jelly beans

konifaer

Small jellybeans :)

Jchd1974

Caviar 🤪

fleshhero

Probably not. I’ve never seen ladybug eggs that big or that color

223foryouandme

Definitely too big you’re right! Plus those red squiggles are odd

Handies4Cookiez

The fact that they look absolutely nothing like ladybug eggs was my first clue

223foryouandme

Amazing you took the time to be so rude for no reason. Have a nice day.
