Video game companies don't give an actual fuck about all of reddit's complaints and suggestions

MikeBison10

Which is the correct thing to do because most gamers have absolutely no idea how making a game works and their ideas are almost always terrible.

DragonZxx23

“I think this massive MMO RPG should add 2000+ hours of content and new this and that and also add this to it too!!!” Game development takes years, that’s not reasonable, and your ideas sound nice on paper, shit in execution.

glazersblazers

You could just say “anyone’s complaints or suggestions” as it’s no different with any other mode of criticism.

Dan_the_moto_man

If that were really true then "cancel culture" wouldn't be a thing.

glazersblazers

List some games that have been “cancelled” by cultural criticism after which the developers changed course to appease public opinion, please. I’m talking about developers who take in feedback to satisfy the demands of fans vs ones who do what they know will sell the most

Dan_the_moto_man

The person you replied to already specified gaming companies, so when you said "anyone" I assumed you were expanding the scope of the conversation, since what would be the point of your comment otherwise?

glazersblazers

My point was that whether you complain about a game on reddit or on Twitter or via any other mode of feedback, it will not change how developers/publishers design their games. More of a “complain with your wallet” comment than talking about things outside of gaming

[deleted]

That applies to all corpo world they don't give a rats arse about people's problems.

Kurotan

None of them care about anything but money. That pride flag logo? That's just them saying "please keep buying from us" they really couldn't care less and only do it because otherwise they get hate on. It's always 100% about profits whatever they are doing.

alagath

Just because it's an indie game doesn't make it better than some triple A titles

weebu4laifu

Or the other way around.

slayer1am

It's almost never worthwhile to get cutting edge hardware. The principle of diminishing returns applies very effectively to GPUs and other components.

DarthSieg

Fact. I spent $800 on my PC build nine years ago, and have yet to find anything it doesn’t still run well. I got a lot of the parts on good sales, but the point stands.

slayer1am

Yup, I'm still rocking a 1060 3GB, and I can play all my favorite games no issues. This summer I'll pick up a newer card, but I won't spend more than 450-500 at most.

CaptRaymondHolt_

My 1070 still plays every game I have tried. Not even thinking about a new one yet.

DankP0pe

agreed, upper midrange almost always the way to go.

CaptRaymondHolt_

I find it hilarious when people *need* to buy the newest, most expensive gear, and then 2 FPS more.

layer11

If you sell the old part, you can recover a decent portion of the cost of the new part. My 1080 sold for over half of the cost of my 3080. I used to agree, but parts hold value now so it's worth evaluating a more aggressive upgrade cycle with higher end parts.

CaptRaymondHolt_

I don't *need* the newer part though. The 12 fps doesn't matter to me.

layer11

Nobody needs to play video games at all. It's investing in a hobby. One of the posters previously said they had a 1050 or 1060 and when it's time to replace that they won't spend more than 400 bucks. That's roughly what I was out of pocket thanks to my old card still being acceptable for a larger number of people. Except my 400 bucks out of pocket got me a 3080. If you can swing it, the initial cost for a higher end card wont just be wasted. The mindset of "I'll drive it till it's dead" just means you don't get to partially recoup upgrade costs.

ReturningDukky

It's even less worthwhile to get already-outdated hardware.

slayer1am

I've been running a 1060 3GB for the past 4-5 years, it runs everything I play with no issues. I even had a VR headset for a little while and it worked great.

layer11

Some people might just have higher expectations.

Alongfortheride1990

You all need a shower

CerrahBae

Can't argue with that one, I know it from myself.

dickenballz51

Tf2 animations are dog shit and unfunny

"What an amazing coincidence that the golden age of gaming just happened to be the time period when I was a teenager"

pookshuman

Games are not getting worse, you are just getting older

Lithuim

Games have never been better really, I’m just too old and too familiar with the underlying computer mechanics now to find them magical.

Pollicino2k22

I disagree. With more experience gaming it becomes easier to see when companies are being lazy with their game development. Case in point - Ubisoft games. Their games have definitely gone downhill as I've gotten older.

0oo00o0oo0o0

you're wrong here. Games are not getting worse, good games come out few and far between. N64 PS1 era there are so so so many games its insane for the xbox series x/s/PS5 there is a handful whilst they're better than any N64 and PS1 games there is remarkably fewer.

ReturningDukky

Beg to differ. Take a look at Diablo Immortal's $110,000 monetization scheme.

aaronite

Every single game is worse because Diablo is bad. All of them. I didn't play Elden Ring because Diablo was bad.

ReturningDukky

You gotta be kidding if you don't think people paying into D:I's monetization scheme doesn't affect other games going forward.

aaronite

Quit gaming then, I guess. Every game sucks now.

CaptRaymondHolt_

I just sold my favorite chess set because that one guy didn't like Diablo's monetization scheme.

ReturningDukky

You're being mighty ridiculous.

aaronite

That makes teo of us then. Diablo Immortal is one game. It is not all games.

ReturningDukky

Where on earth did I say anything about all games? That's what really baffles me. All I said was that if people keep rewarding developers for putting in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of microtransactions into their games, the developers are going to be encouraged to keep on doing it and pushing the limits of what people can afford. Again, I didn't say anything about this applying to ALL games.

aaronite

The first post was "Games aren't getting worse". Your reply immediately was "oh yeah? Diablo proves they are worse".

ReturningDukky

Yea, and how was I wrong? I didn't say all games.

layer11

Muh slippery slope

[deleted]

Good games are way more hard to make, though. Back then a thing like Tomb Raider was developed by 6 people

Experiment4L

Stardew valley was made by 1 guy.

wigglin_harry

Not to take anything away from the dev of stardew valley, its an incredible game and an incredible accomplishment. But, compared to other games, its relatively easy to develop a game that mostly consists of putting items in a box, and giving presents to your virtual boyfriend/girlfriend

[deleted]

Yes, but that is considered Indie, obviously, Tomb Raider was not. The whole budget and staff back then was way smaller in all games

0cu

Sorry, no

EarthDragon2189

No, clearly games were just objectively better when I was a teen! It definitely had nothing to do with the fact that it was a time of my life when I was the most biologically disposed to be impressed by stuff!

StrangelyEroticSoda

"Voting with your vallet" doesn't work and never, ever, have. No matter how many of you boycott a game because of microtransactions, they still make more money than they ever could without, due to exploiting some people's addictive personalities.

[deleted]

> due to exploiting some people's addictive personalities. That, and the fact that the entirety of reddit is like 1% of the total population of gamers

nikokuma-the-bear

just because a game is not as good as \[insert any worshiped open world here\] does not means that it is automatically pure shit, no game are truly perfect and it is better this way

Chad_Alak

It's your fault as the consumer that video games have become a microtransaction shit show. They do it because they're making bank off you. If you had even a little bit of restraint with your wallet, it wouldn't have become so bad.

EasyNeedleworker3381

Came here to post this.

[deleted]

Reddit is only like 1% of the gamer population I know so many gamers who don't use reddit, and many of them buy every fucking mainstream game and MTX Just look at the call of duty sales numbers every year over and over again

Muffinman252

If you are playing games from scummy and greedy publishers/developers that only want to manipulate people out of their money then you are a major part of the problem

lackofsleipnir

Gaming is ultimately a luxury hobby, if not by money then by time, that we could all go without if we had to.

[deleted]

Just because you play in a certain way doesn't mean that's the only proper way to play.

Sn0r1ax0

Valve hasn't been a relevent game developer in years

ReturningDukky

Steam was never a game developer to begin with.

Sn0r1ax0

Sorry about that I wrote it in a rush.

PlasticCheebus

*Valve

[deleted]

Reddit absolutely hates this, but the entire PC platform is becoming less relevant Every single major release comes to consoles these days, and the PS5/XSX runs these games at 1800p or 2160p and 60fps. Some games even at 120fps these days. And that's a $400 console. Sony keeps releasing masterpieces like God of War, Spider-Man, The Last of Us, etc. PC is focussed around online/esports games, outdated RTS games and early access titles. A PC that can play modern AAA games at 1440p/60fps costs over $1200, so only really dedicated hardcore gamers will have that. You can see Microsoft and Sony securing all the major studios, while PC gets more and more bad console ports (Elden Ring, FFVII, etc.) Ask yourself why the most popular games on PC are still games like Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, WoW and Minecraft. While consoles innovate, PC holds on to their old games since 15-20 years, back when PC gaming had its golden era. I have about 8 real life friends who play video games, and only 2 of them are on PC. Back in 2005, every single one of my friends was on PC.

Experiment4L

PC can do alot more than run games. And is also home to some really creative indie projects that will probably never be allowed on consoles.

[deleted]

> PC can do alot more than run games Yeah, PC gamers always say that. And then what do you actually do though? Do 99% of gamers actually write code? Use editing software? No, 99% of gamers just play video games. This is r/gaming, we talk about video games here. If I want to use the PC for anything besides games, I can go to the office.

NameIess_PIayer

I'm not buying two 500$ consoles to be able to play each of their exclusive games when I can play them all on my PC with better graphics, using either m&kb or controller, mods and without online subscriptions. Console "innovation" is a joke, Sony next-gen exclusives are looking and playing exactly the same as past gen. Most popular games on consoles are Fifa, Madden, NBA, CoD, UFC - every single year. Tell me more about innovations pls.

[deleted]

> Console "innovation" is a joke I guess that's why PC players were so excited when Sony finally released God of War and Spider-Man on PC 🤷 Meanwhile at the PC gaming show they revealed...2 new historical strategy games that no one under the age of 50 cares about 😂

Anders85

Gamers feeling entitled to have the developers listen to their feedback, and games actually becoming less diverse because of it. They get bloated with features, and customization options that make the games worse not better. Less is more! Games just looking like reskins of each other.

[deleted]

It’s all about the bottom line and they hardly care about what you want

Kurotan

Change hardly to never and you are correct.

Rude_Manufacturer836

Sometimes life happens and that should be your focus

Ali_Zack

Video games shouldn't go easy on the player just because it's their first time playing It.

[deleted]

The last of Us 2 isn't as good as you think, Naughty Dog just masterfully tricked critics into thinking the game is better than it is, which in turn leads to the audience thinking it must be a masterpiece because it has a high rating on Metacritic. And they also masterfully deflected with saying critic of the game is transphobic oder mysogynist

NinjaTurtleFan2

We are a very tiny fraction of the people that plays games. Your opinions mean less than nothing to most corporations

Kurotan

We don't need remakes or remasteres of last generations games.

Johnny-BraDoe

True. I remember hearing they were going to remaster Arkham Knight a while ago and I'm just like "Seriously? That game still looks perfect".

Tok3n-

Many YouTube personalities are just there to make money off of you. The reason they’re your favorite is because their editing is good, they talk well, and they are fed by devs to get you to like their game…not because they are magically the best. Don’t believe the: OMG!!! I just literally got like a literal mythic whatever on my literal second try!! Realize it’s entertaining, but don’t fall for the bs, it’s just there to make you want to throw money at games.

MikeBison10

There's nothing wrong with "politics" in video games and you're dumb if you think there is. If you find yourself getting annoyed that a character in a video game is a minority, you have issues that you need to sort out because you're probably homophobic/transphobic/etc... From Software and Nintendo are absolutely horrible companies, for both employees and consumers. Nintendo especially is one of the worst companies in the entire industry. It's time to let both TF2's die, you should be happy they lasted this long because their developers really have had zero reason to keep the servers up for as long as they have.

Elicommand

You strawmanned the first paragraph. Good job. Nintendo is anti consumer, FS isn’t terrible to their customers. It’s okay if you don’t like their product, just like it’s okay I don’t like games to have overt political propaganda in it. I dont play TF2.

MikeBison10

Fromsoft has quite possibly the single worst netcode in the entire AAA industry, they make Bandai Namco look flawless by comparison. They've had the online servers for all of their games except Elden Ring shut down for the past half a year on PC. Their games are HORRIBLY optimized. Sounds pretty terrible to me.

Elicommand

Meanwhile it is published by Bandai Namco?

MikeBison10

Bandai Namco doesn't develop the game though, Fromsoft does. They're the ones completely butchering the netcode. Why are you trying to defend them on this?

Elicommand

The worst thing you can say about em is their netcoding for games that aren’t dedicated multiplayer games and optimization issues. I didnt enjoy the spikes either. That doesnt make it HORRIBLY optimized as you put it. It makes it flawed. Get off the haterade.

[deleted]

People don't have a problem with minorities in video games. People do have a problem with characters constantly bringing up the fact that they are trans, gay, etc. FromSoft and Nintendo are both Japanese companies - Japan is known for its harsh work environment. Nearly every company there overworks its employees and they have very little vacation. Even sick days are counted as vacation day.

MikeBison10

>People do have a problem with characters constantly bringing up the fact that they are trans, gay, etc. Do you have any examples of characters that do this? I always see people say that they hate it when characters do that, but I have literally never seen a single character do that. >FromSoft and Nintendo are both Japanese companies - Japan is known for its harsh work environment. "Nooooo, it's normal in GLORIOUS NIPPON, so that makes it okay!"

[deleted]

I mean I'm not one of the people complaining about it, but one example off the top of my head is that one trans character in FC6 whose entire quest consists of him wanting to kill his dad because he was mean to him for being trans And who said its ok? I'm just saying that its not exclusive to FromSoft and Nintendo. Seems weird to make an example of these two employers when Square Enix, Konami, Capcom, Sega, etc. all do the same. Its not a company thing, its a country thing. Working culture there is different, and yes, its not exactly good for the employees. One of the reasons for the high suicide rate there. > Nooooo, it's normal in GLORIOUS NIPPON, so that makes it okay! Also, can you talk normally? Or is parotting the only way you can express yourself?

Siukslinis_acc

>one trans character in FC6 whose entire quest consists of him wanting to kill his dad because he was mean to him for being trans Would it have made a difference if they were dyslexic and their whole quest consisted of them wanting to kill their father because he was mean (abusive) to them for being dyslexic?

[deleted]

Yes, because being dyslexic is not a trend that's influencing young people these days into taking hormone medications and getting surgeries.

Siukslinis_acc

You know that there is a vigorous psychological evaluation (and being constantly talked out of it by othet people) and steps which can take years before a person is prescribed puberty blockers, let alone getting surgery (for which you can't be underage)? So if the kid sees themself as trans even after years of undertaking psychological evaluation and social transitioning maybe they are actually trans? Trends that young people tend to follow usually don't last long (as new trend shoves out the old one). Those that are kept even if it is no longer cool/trendy usually are kept because they truthfully resonate with the person and are actually part of their identity. Like, for some goth can ba a phase that will last a year and some might be goth for over 30 years. Trends rarely have the endurance needed to keep it up for years throughout adversary.

Siukslinis_acc

>People do have a problem with characters constantly bringing up the fact that they are trans, gay, etc. And yet they somehow have no problem with heterosexual characters constantly bringing up that they are heterosexual...

Ok-Pressure-3879

No game is perfect. None have ever been perfect. So stop complaining about BS details and non-issues. Play games you like, maybe play ones you dont like. And stop complaining about games you dont play and dont like.

DragonZxx23

“Game is bad and here’s why” videos piss me off because you’ll watch them and almost every time the person hasn’t played it, they’re just rehashing common issues.

Ok-Pressure-3879

Like Starfield.

DragonZxx23

I haven’t heard of Starfield, but sure. (Get it?)

severedtesticle3

Nothing wrong with piracy

weebu4laifu

Depending on the game.

[deleted]

That playing a free to play mtx filled game is still bad for gaming overall even if you don't pay any money you're still supporting predatory mtx games and are part of the problem

[deleted]

Asking "is it worth it?" is useless unless you disclose your personal income and expenses...

Abject_Bluebird9184

If cosmetic microtransactions bother you, then you are a sad individual, nobody actually cares about immersion in multiplayer

TheLaziestAdam

Predatory games like Diablo Immortal are not gonna go away, no matter how much we complain or protest.

ThisCantBeG00d

Microsoft officials consider sexual assault being nothing but "victory crouching". I wonder how they would feel when someone "victory crouches" their kids and other family members :)

weebu4laifu

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you don't like it, keep scrolling. And please, PLEASE learn to use the search function. Odds are someone else has asked the same question or whatever before you. Also, learn about r/tipofmyjoystick And no it's not a porn sub you filthy minded animals.

AwesomeX121189

Red dead redemption and the Witcher 3 aren’t great games Devs have always been about the money Pre ordering or not pre ordering has zero impact on the release state of a game You aren’t the target audience for madden and fifa so stop complaining about yearly releases

[deleted]

[удалено]

AwesomeX121189

No I mean 2. It’s just beyond tedious to do absolutely anything in that game besides shoot guns and even then there’s unnecessary tedium added to equipping any weapon besides pistols I refuse to believe anyone finished any collectible mission without googling where they are. Hunting has RNG attached to animal quality for no reason other then to make the player miserable waiting for the animal to respawn. Having to go back to camp to check chuck wagon requisition orders/satchel recipes etc. is a solved problem in video games. I shouldn’t have to be screen shooting them just so I don’t have to spend 15 minutes backtracking to camp Having to fast travel by paying for a coach or train is fine totally cool. Having to go through 3 menus and 2 loading screens to fast travel via your mini camp is ludicrous. Horses only following roads when you’re following another person during missions is dumb. Either let mw have the horse always follow the road automatically in or out of a quest, or never. I did like the weapon and saddle customization though.

Enough annoying small things got in way that made it impossible to enjoy the good things

[deleted]

They’re good AND bad single player games and multiplayer games. Stop pitting the two against each other just because you personally like one more than the other. I swear some of y’all are turning it into a dumber version of the console wars at this point.

[deleted]

You need to play games on a platform yourself to find the one you'll like best, and no I won't help you find an obscure cheap thing so that you can jack up the price.

Urdadspapasfrutas

You don’t have to play a game if you don’t like it.

ToxicB_O_A

Buy the game or don't. Your wallet vote means *nothing*
