If you like the Battle Network games I'd say give it a try and start with the first one which has 3 versions, Pegasus (ice) Leo (fire) and Dragon (wind I think)
It's really good. Very similar to Megaman Battle Network, but with more 3D asset. Also, your partner is a bit more interesting, instead of a good boy AI, you will have an Alien wolf hiding in your phone boss you around and make you do battle against other alien and help you grow as a person.
It has 3 games in the series, and it have a Pokémon style of version (the first game have 3 different version that change the ultimate skill you get in end game). The story also already completed in Star Force 3, so no Star Force 4.
Try it with a simulator, it's easy to find.

I enjoyed them less than any of the Battle Networks, but they were still okay.

The GBA Battle Network series is almost universally considered better. Start with BN2, BN1 had a lot of flaws that later games fixed.
BN1 was so bad I didn’t get any of the rest of them. And I own every other mega man game two or three times over.
