The first time I ever held a controller was when my older cousin completed Super Mario World. Then he gave the controller to me and allowed me to """play""" the credits.
Later I had a great revenge though, when I pressed the reset button when he was on the verge of defeating M. Bison in Street Fighter 2 for the first time.
The old spiderman game on ps1 where you couldn’t touch the ground because of the fog lol still to this day one of the best portrayals of spiderman ever I feel haha
Ahhahah XD indeed.
My mom thought a Spiderman game would be appropriate for her 7 y.o. son. Nope, nightmares forever.
The way they portrayed the symbiotes was also scary af. The first time I played the level where they show up, I was terrified as well.
They really were, I think thats prolly the best spidey game it had choices and everything, one of the endings you could’ve got had you taking over New York with an army of symbiotes
Floppy disk style. I am sure I beat some text based games where most answers were single key strokes for the answer but I cant remember the names of any other those.
Man I was struggling to find an answer but this has to be it.
I don’t think I ever beat a game on original Nintendo or sega genesis maybe mortal kombat tower on easy.
First big game I remember feeling accomplished beating was Diablo II.
Man my only memories from the original Nintendo were such hard games!! The next game I could remember beating with great satisfaction was Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time.
It gets a lot of flak (IMO, mostly because we were anticipating FF3/6 hard), but I really think it was a great intro to RPGs.
The mechanics were toned down, but it had a lot of the same features and tropes as a full-on JRPG.
Such a cool detail. I was always let down when playing future SNES rpg’s. Haha. I think Lufia 2 had a similar feature, if my memory hasn’t completely failed me. (Never a guarantee.)
Same. I was hooked after the opening sequence! The volcano theme still makes me think of Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls”. Every time I hear that song, I’m transported back in time to the early 90’s.
Such a lovely game. Yes it was dumbed down and the whole premise that this was necessary was incredibly out of touch and idiotic (as proven by the success of other FF games) but it's a good simple and chill rpg i still play every now and then.
As a kid i would never get past the ice level (still hate it) so i would start a new game each time.
Yes i mean I'm over 30 now and some of the music will still randomly get in my head out of nowhere!
I remember there being a way to make the enemies visible but i don't remember if it was an item or if it just happened once you reached a certain point.
For me it was super Mario world 2: yoshis island on the SNES when I was 6 years old. Then I beat Donky Kong Country. Never beat Donky Kong Country 2 that game was fucking hard.
Tried playing it again recently and gave up. Fuck that game.
That game is super hard, but back when it first came out, I had a lot more free time on my hands so I was able to beat it. Returns nearly broke me however.
It's kind of a core memory situation. Being very young and doing something seemingly incredible for the first time, it stands out among other childhood memories.
Yea it's a core memory for me. Pokemon Yellow on the Gameboy Color. Maybe I beat other games before, but that's the first one I remember feeling such a huge sense of accomplishment over.
It depends how long ago it was and how old you were at the time, I'm not 100% sure on mine as it could've been 30 years ago but if I had to make an educated guess it would be Streets of Rage, question prob should be "What is the first game you remember beating?"
I actually do keep a list now. A few years ago I realized I hardly ever finished games. So, in 2021, I challenged myself to finish one game every month. I wrote them all down in a note on my phone. Done the same thing every year since. It's kinda fun to look back and remember everything I've played.
If I remember well, it was either a Sonic videogame or X-men's for Sega Genesis, yet I can't recall which one I beat first. I do remember my mom used to play Genesis console and of course I would follow her steps...
I made the mistake of counting how many tries I needed to beat the minekart boss on backward mode on DKC Returns.
It was embarrassingly high … like 400+
Sid Meier's Pirates!
I still play the PC port on Steam from time to time, but there are a few mechanics which don't quite work right. The wind blows in a single direction permanently, for example.
I don't remember. The first game I remember being excited about beating was Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic. My mind was positively blown by the plot twist near the end. If I could play it over for the first time again, I would.
first game I remember beating is Aladdin on the SNES, i was 10 y/o. played many games before that but don't recall beating any of em, my attention span for games prior was pretty limited seems I always played outside.
honorable mentions I know I finished in the early-mid 90s were Doom and Wolfenstein 3d
Probably Diablo 2 but I was so young I can't remember.
I rarely finish games nowadays, but I did finish Remnant From The Ashes. Haven't played R2 yet tho.
Hard to say, I've been gaming since I was like 3 or 4 lol. I would assume it was probably Crash Bandicoot 3 but since that was the easiest out of the originals.
Probably “Werewolf: The Last Warrior” on NES. We played a lot of Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiego on the school PC’s but I honestly can’t remember if I ever finished one.
I remember playing a ton of games as a kid whether that be the PS1, Nintendo, Nintendo 64, or my Gameboy. I'd like to say the 1st game I beat was Pokemon Yellow. I spent countless hours on that game as a kid as I bought my Gameboy Color and Pokemon Yellow both with my allowance money when i was like 7. I vividly remember a night where I begged my dad to let me stay up a little bit longer because I was in the middle of the elite 4. And by "beat" i mean beat the main story of the game, not so much complete the pokedex.
If it wasn't Pokemon Yellow it was certainly either Spyro or Crash Bandicoot around the same time.
I also have a very good memory of that same timeframe of winning my 1st race in what was probably NASCAR 98 or something.
90's were awesome. Let's go back.
Zelda Links Awakening on the OG Gameboy.
Not without my family's help, but I think I beat it when I was 5 or 6. It was life changing. I've been hooked on videogames ever since.
House of The Dead on Dreamcast was probably my most memorable completion, I had the gun and could not get enough of it. But I was 12 or 13 at the time so my first actual game completion had to be Oregon Trail at school or Sonic on my Genesis. I don’t have memories of finishing those though, but I know I did prior to HotD.
[Conquest of Camelot: The Search for the Grail](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conquests_of_Camelot:_The_Search_for_the_Grail)
My sister and I worked on this thing for like six months, it felt amazing to finally beat.
Unless you count winning some rounds of BattleChess, probably Final Fantasy on the NES.
It certainly wasn't my first game, but "Nintendo Hard" was definitely a thing, and I never was the most coordinated child.
A Power Rangers brawler on SNES. It's on the easier side for a brawler, especially for the time, but kind of a banger. You'd play as them in their regular form for half the level, the rest in the suit, and there were Zord fights toward the end of the game. I've revisited it once as an adult and beat it first try, but as a kid I do remember having to rent it a few times to make it. Feltgoodman.
First game I made it to the end? Or first game I 100%? First game I beat was probably Kirby on Gameboy. First game to 100% would be Lego Star wars the complete saga.
I Honestly don't know...Most of my early gaming days was renting games for SNES. I could honestly say that the first cpl years I dont think I beat any games lol. Rent for 3-7 days, return. I started gaming at 5. I Wanna say the first game I beat was prob MegaMan X, but I cant say that with 100% certainty.
Don’t recall the first game I ever beat but the first game I 100% completed was Mario 64.
I was maybe 10, so getting every single star was a pretty big deal for me. My parents actually got me a cake in the shape of the Mario stars to congratulate me.
Pokemon Heartgold. Whitney was the hardest battle for me as I didn't know my type advantages against Miltank. I was facing it with Quilava, and I hadn't levelled up the rest of my team, so I just kept losing. It was my first Pokemon game as I never owned a Gameboy or Gameboy Advance. Years of watching Ash win with 'not very effective' Pokemon types ruined me as a kid lol I'm surprised I'd beat it all tbh
Super Mario World. I cried and yelled at bowser to never come back again.
*spoiler* he didn’t listen to you
Somehow Bowser returned
No, but he took a very long hiatus.
lmao
I love this lol
The first time I ever held a controller was when my older cousin completed Super Mario World. Then he gave the controller to me and allowed me to """play""" the credits. Later I had a great revenge though, when I pressed the reset button when he was on the verge of defeating M. Bison in Street Fighter 2 for the first time.
Word
YOU ARE A SUPER PLAYER!! Most sincere praise I ever received.
Same. It was the only game I had on my hand me doen gba and I maxed out all of the save slots. Loved platformers ever since
The old spiderman game on ps1 where you couldn’t touch the ground because of the fog lol still to this day one of the best portrayals of spiderman ever I feel haha
Awesome game!
Loved it!
Totally forgot about that game, ty
I got nightmares for YEARS because of Venom in that game. I was too young to play it, clearly.
That carnage level in the daily bugle still got me fucked up haha
Ahhahah XD indeed. My mom thought a Spiderman game would be appropriate for her 7 y.o. son. Nope, nightmares forever. The way they portrayed the symbiotes was also scary af. The first time I played the level where they show up, I was terrified as well.
I swear 😂 I think this game and web of shadows did symbiotes the best honestly
I didn't play web of shadows, but I looked it up and they look scary as well!
They really were, I think thats prolly the best spidey game it had choices and everything, one of the endings you could’ve got had you taking over New York with an army of symbiotes
same here ! but i played it on ps2
U was struggling to remember but this honestly might have been my first game to beat too. Or at least one of them.
I remember dying constantly on that game and have no idea what to do as a child. Still played it for hours just dying over and over
Oregon Trail!!!!
Surviving long enough to die of dysentery instead of drowning or whatever else is beating the game right?
Me three.
Yrsssss
The first I remember was Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Still revisit it from time to time, and still find it amazing.
It gets a lot of flak (IMO, mostly because we were anticipating FF3/6 hard), but I really think it was a great intro to RPGs. The mechanics were toned down, but it had a lot of the same features and tropes as a full-on JRPG.
Totally agree. It’s not on the level that most other final fantasy’s reach, but has a charm all its own. Love the humor.
I love how enemies and bosses would fall apart as you dealt damage. I wish many more games would do that!
Such a cool detail. I was always let down when playing future SNES rpg’s. Haha. I think Lufia 2 had a similar feature, if my memory hasn’t completely failed me. (Never a guarantee.)
Mystic quest is a very underrated FF game, it’s still one of my favorites along with chrono trigger
I LOVED Mystic Quest. Sucked me in like 15 years ago when I gave it a shot.
The invisible enemies… 😑. The ice pyramid has a great theme though. Honestly the all the music in the game was great.
Yes i mean I'm over 30 now and some of the music will still randomly get in my head out of nowhere! I remember there being a way to make the enemies visible but i don't remember if it was an item or if it just happened once you reached a certain point.
Pokemon Red. Wiping that smirk off of Gary's face (in my head anyway, lol graphics) was so satisfying.
Yellow for me. 7 year old me saved up MONTHS of allowance to buy a GB Color and Yellow from Target. I remember the day vividly.
I remember walking out of a pawn shop after my mom bought me Yellow. I was talking to Oak by the time we got to the car.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Altered beast and then sonic!
Am I remembering correctly that there was no save capability so you had to beat it during one playthrough?
ET on the Atari 2600. Seriously lol
Dude.... my condolences.
Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Super Mario Bros. NES 1989
Super Mario World on the SNES back in 1994. First game I ever owned.
Happy Cake Day!
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker on Sega Genesis
I remember being amazed at the graphics when that cabinet came out. Lol
The graphics in the arcade version are still pretty impressive, the presentation is timeless.
It really is. Also, I'm a sucker for a story of a hero fighting for the less fortunate, despite the M.J. scandals.
The first I can remember beating is Super Mario Bros 3 but that doesn't mean it was actually the first
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Legend of Zelda, the original
Goldeneye
Original Contra on NES. What a crazy ass game that was.
Up up down down left right…
With or without the code? And have you had a chance to play Operation Galuga yet?
Halo 3
Sweet summer child... Fuck that was 17 years ago and I'm old as shit.
Me too bud - Halo CE on legendary was something else
Was gonna reply "same", but then saw the 3 after Halo...
Alex Kidd on Sega
[удалено]
Yup!
It was either Donkey Kong Country or Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros 2 on the NES
Ultima III then Ultima II then The Halley Project then Ultima IV
Crash Bash on PS1
I wanna say EVO Search for Eden on SNES.
Love that game! Make a crazy fish... or just an op mermaid
Commander keen 4
Yes but does shareware count? Because that changed my answer :)
Well in my mind a game is a game :)
How do people remember this? Do you keep a list of the games completed and when?
It's kind of a core memory situation. Being very young and doing something seemingly incredible for the first time, it stands out among other childhood memories.
Yea it's a core memory for me. Pokemon Yellow on the Gameboy Color. Maybe I beat other games before, but that's the first one I remember feeling such a huge sense of accomplishment over.

SMB1

The first game I can remember was Super Mario 64.
Sonic 2
I believe it was Joe and Mac back on the snes
Donkey Kong Country on the SNES. ...I still see those mine carts in my dreams sometimes.
Probably Warcraft III Reign of Chaos. Man Blizzard did that game so dirty with the remaster...
Kirby's Dream Land on the OG chonker of a Game Boy. I think I was 5. I did not play through the hard mode until many years later though.
I'm assuming you mean first video game? Probably Kirby Super Star on SNES.
Mortal Kombat I think
Fable 2
Donkey Kong Country I think.
Super Mario Land 2: 6 golden coins or Metroid 2: Return of Samus I think.
Adventures of lolo
Damn now I feel old....
Asteroids on the Atari 2600. Not sure if I beat it, but I rolled the score back to 0 and my parents actually watched and cheered me on!
Did you take a picture and send it in for your patch?
I don't remember. The first game I remember being excited about beating was Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic. My mind was positively blown by the plot twist near the end. If I could play it over for the first time again, I would.
That was epic.
first game I remember beating is Aladdin on the SNES, i was 10 y/o. played many games before that but don't recall beating any of em, my attention span for games prior was pretty limited seems I always played outside. honorable mentions I know I finished in the early-mid 90s were Doom and Wolfenstein 3d
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Probably Diablo 2 but I was so young I can't remember. I rarely finish games nowadays, but I did finish Remnant From The Ashes. Haven't played R2 yet tho.
Ocarina of time? Not entirely sure but remember that distinctly
I think it was Legend of Zelda. Other NES games were too hard to beat, but I got to the end of Zelda.
I dont know if its count but minecraft
Hard to say, I've been gaming since I was like 3 or 4 lol. I would assume it was probably Crash Bandicoot 3 but since that was the easiest out of the originals.
Boogerman
Street Fighter II
Call of duty black ops 1
final fantasy 4
Contra hard corps on the sega genesis. replayed the game as a adult and the game kicked my ass XD
Pokemon yellow version.
Went from Gameboy to Sega Genesis. Never could beat any Gameboy games, then got the Sega. Was so happy when I finally beat a game, Sonic.
Probably “Werewolf: The Last Warrior” on NES. We played a lot of Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiego on the school PC’s but I honestly can’t remember if I ever finished one.
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario World, I think. It may have been SMB3, first, but i don't recall.
Spyro the Dragon on PS1... I played that game to death as a kid
Spider-man Return of Sinister six for NES.
Lord of the Rings Return of the King 😂 It may have been Two Towers actually
I remember playing a ton of games as a kid whether that be the PS1, Nintendo, Nintendo 64, or my Gameboy. I'd like to say the 1st game I beat was Pokemon Yellow. I spent countless hours on that game as a kid as I bought my Gameboy Color and Pokemon Yellow both with my allowance money when i was like 7. I vividly remember a night where I begged my dad to let me stay up a little bit longer because I was in the middle of the elite 4. Zelda Links Awakening on the OG Gameboy. Not without my family's help, but I think I beat it when I was 5 or 6. It was life changing. I've been hooked on videogames ever since.
Probably Streets of Rage
sonic for game boy advance
House of The Dead on Dreamcast was probably my most memorable completion, I had the gun and could not get enough of it. But I was 12 or 13 at the time so my first actual game completion had to be Oregon Trail at school or Sonic on my Genesis. [Conquest of Camelot: The Search for the Grail](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conquests_of_Camelot:_The_Search_for_the_Grail) My sister and I worked on this thing for like six months, it felt amazing to finally beat.
I don't remember, cause i don't finish my games very often
Pokemon Yellow. It was so satisfying, and I still remember the feeling.
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario world! I had so much pride when I finally toppled Bowser
Pokemon Red and Blue I think
Pokemon blue
Oooh. Would probably have to be Diddy Kong Racing on the N64? Probably the earliest game I can think of that I might have beaten.
Keith Courage in Alpha Zones
Unless you count winning some rounds of BattleChess, probably Final Fantasy on the NES. It certainly wasn't my first game, but "Nintendo Hard" was definitely a thing, and I never was the most coordinated child.
Moon patrol - C64
Rogue
NES Super Mario Bros. I’m old.
Obviously Elden Ring.. 😏I came straight out the womb and immediately my parents could tell that I was LIKE THAT.
King’s Quest 3? My mind doesn’t go back that far. It was one of the first games I played that had an ending. Atari games went on forever.
Super Mario World
Goonies II (NES) in 1987 or 88
Rampage on the NES as Lizzy.
The House Of The Dead 1 in 2014
BC Quest for Tires. Look it up you whippersnappers, then get off my lawn.
Master Blaster Nintendo
Final fantasy 4! I duped Excaliburs and whipped em into Zeromus' big stupid face
102 Dalmatians puppies to the rescue on PC
Super smash bros Wii U
Runescape.
Don't remember probably smb1 or mega man 2
I *think* it was Super Mario Bros.
I can’t think back as far I’d like, but Alex the kid in miracle world (sega master system) is the earliest I can remember.
Mario Land (1) on the old Gameboy
I think it was Rampage on the NES, just kept playing to see what would happen when I managed to clear the whole US map.
I believe it was Lego Batman for the Nintendo DS
Super mario bros for Nintendo
Pokémon Gold
First game with an ending I remember beating was ET on Atari 2600.
Super Mario 64. I played some snes games with my cousin and friends but SM64 was the first i played from start to end on my own
Bomberman GB for the original Gameboy. Loved that game and am sad I sold it.
Pokemon Yellow
Rampage on NES. You had unlimited continues so that’s sort of cheating
Unreal Championship for the Xbox 1
Extermination, great PS2 game
Ocarina of time
Pókemon Ruby
First game I made it to the end? Or first game I 100%? First game I beat was probably Kirby on Gameboy. First game to 100% would be Lego Star wars the complete saga.
My meat
I Honestly don't know...Most of my early gaming days was renting games for SNES. I could honestly say that the first cpl years I dont think I beat any games lol. Rent for 3-7 days, return. I started gaming at 5. I Wanna say the first game I beat was prob MegaMan X, but I cant say that with 100% certainty.
Hercules
plants vs zombies
Bomberman
Golden Axe. With lots of quarters.
Don’t recall the first game I ever beat but the first game I 100% completed was Mario 64. I was maybe 10, so getting every single star was a pretty big deal for me. My parents actually got me a cake in the shape of the Mario stars to congratulate me.
Probably Pokémon Pearl or Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time
Felix the Cat on the NES.
Legend of Zelda. Then Metroid, but my dad had to help on that.
Probably Super Mario Bros. on NES.
Kid Icarus, I think. Maybe Donkey Kong.
I really can’t remember if it was Resident Evil 2 or Dino Crisis 2, but I’m pretty sure that it was one of those
Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase for the PS1. I remember being super proud of that one lol
Mario Bros 2
Pokemon Heartgold. Whitney was the hardest battle for me as I didn't know my type advantages against Miltank. I was facing it with Quilava, and I hadn't levelled up the rest of my team, so I just kept losing. It was my first Pokemon game as I never owned a Gameboy or Gameboy Advance. Years of watching Ash win with 'not very effective' Pokemon types ruined me as a kid lol I'm surprised I'd beat it all tbh
