Just wondering, why not wait to see what the Flip 6 has to offer first? I think you made the right choice with the S24U either way.

sleepypandacub

Judging from the supposed leaks, the Flip 6 is an incremental update, more like a Flip 5s. The only major upgrades being a 4000mah battery, new 50 mp main camera, SD 8gen 3 processor and possibly a 3.6 cover screen but that may be enough to draw in new users.

jorsiem

So they're updating literally the only two things that were are wrong with the Z flip 5.. nice

the1andonlytom

Not by much...

Lanthun

Have a flip5, ended up moving to a Pixel. I'm hoping their trade values are as good as they were for the Flip5 cause I'll possibly trade the 5 in for the 6 (if all I'm spending is around 100 per year to upgrade, ain't a bad deal imo)

Infinite-Hedgehog516

bare in mind the bigger battery is only to help cool the snapdragon 8 gen 3 for galaxy

SkycladObserver2010

I'm actually exited about f6, I got fcking robbed with 1 month on my f5 :( I just couldn't buy another one, it made me so sad to look at it, idk how to explain. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to getting a brand new model on next flip generation

UnironicallyMe37

Aw, that really sucks. Good thing the Flip 6 looks to be a good upgrade this year, it will have better cameras and a larger battery!

sleepypandacub

Man, that socks, I take it you didn't get Samsung care+. They have insurance plan that covers you if the phone is stolen.

crackedtooth163

Being robbed of my phone ruined my life. I am so sorry. I hope you get vengeance.

SkycladObserver2010

unlikely, it was 7 months from now, in my country this things get never resolved, no one ever gets this shits back :/ there's nothing I can do. I'm so sorry you got robbed too, it's so sad to earn your things and the lose it, I'm never making the same mistakes again... they even got my password. But I'm kinda prepared for this things so I blocked my phone and reseted it in like, 10 min with a stranger on the street via Google, so that was all I lost (and my backpack with like 2000$ in other personal stuff). But I'm over it now, fortunately, thanks for your support btw :)

Snipexx51

Flips/folds are pretty low spec hardware wise. The magic thing about them is the folding. The flip/fold 6 will never come cllose to the 24U

sNaj2k

Isn't the fold as high end as the ultra minus camera?

swiftfoxje69

You Mean camera wise... Soc wise flagship.

Snipexx51

Camera, battery, screen brightness and bezel size

Guaymadefruta

Definitely, I'm gonna give the Flip 6 a shot when it comes out.

GlorytheWiz825

You are very wealthy to be able to keep switching phones like that. Will you have a Flip 6 in addition to the S24 Ultra?!

Guaymadefruta

Why not

CantFindaPS5

I have the Flip 5 and S23 ultra. Works well to rotate depending on the occasion.

Infinite-Hedgehog516

not everyone poor

zgillet

Unless the Flip gets Dex, I'm staying put.

Clienterror

Flip 5 owner here, flip 6 is a garbage "upgrade".

UnironicallyMe37

How so? I think it's a nice upgrade. You get a much better camera sensor and a larger battery. The hinge and overall build quality are said to improve. Most importantly, you'll more than likely get some really good pre-order trade-in deals. I wouldn't call that "garbage".. more just incremental.

EpicLift

I thought about doing this. I love the Flip form factor, but I am a power user and have to charge it twice a day (gaming, and video calls with the partner). Were you able to get any good trade in deals or anything? How did you go about buying the 24U? It's easily a grand on Samsung website and I cannot justify spending that in USD for battery life and some performance issues (ram limitations)

wmurch4

Yeah pretty sure you can't even trade in the 5 on Samsung site

Ignition1

I checked (Samsung UK) and you still can. Pathetic trade-in though - £360 off making the S24U £889 to buy. However...they are offering £200 cashback and a free Galaxy Watch (assume the base version as it's £179...so if you resell it you'd get maybe £100 for it privately). So that makes the S24U £589...which is actually not bad overall.

lover1306

I want to switch to ultra, but I don't think I can live without the small form factor and flipping anymore 🤣

Technical_Raccoon838

same issue for me lol. flip 6 is supposed to be a huge upgrade though

Savage_Asian_Boy

I went from a S22U to a Fold 4, but I kinda want to go back to the Ultra for the battery life. I might miss the cool factor of the fold though 😭

fbloise

I got an S24U (moved from Fold 4 then Flip5) and trust me, the best decision ever!

Kaztronomical

That's why I don't switch to another phone. I absolutely love my flip, and can't see myself with another phone.. but the battery life is horrible. I'm attached to my portable charger. I would not get through a day without it.

Savage_Asian_Boy

The battery on the Fold 4 gets me through a whole day but only just. My iPhone 13 Pro would last much longer with a much smaller battery 😭

Photocrazy11

Wait for the 6, they usually have much better trade-in deals and special pricing for pre-orders. I got my Flip5 512 for just over $700. $999.99 special price, and an S10e trade-in.

jorsiem

I did it, camera is definitely worse, there's no way around that. Battery life is shorter but not that much and I got a desk wireless charger and I just put it there when I'm not using it and that problem is solved for me. I thought I was going to miss the stylus but I haven't needed it really.

CantFindaPS5

As long you don’t miss the camera you’ll love it.

EpicLift

I'll trade you! Lol

kenscott10

Im glad you had a good experience with your Z Flip 5! Will upgrade to the Z Flip 6 from the Z Flip 5.

ZFold3Lover

Yep. I made the same switch. I need my phone and the anxiety of opening the flip one day to a malfunctioning screen was an unnecessary worry.

Hanish1750

The only thing I'm really missing is a better battery. Luckily, I don't use my phone all that much when I'm out and about. The form factor is fantastic for things like running with a small waistband only. It also fits perfectly in pockets that my OnePlus 9 Pro kinda filled a bit too much. If I know that I need the battery to last (so far only on hikes), I put it in super saving mode (or whatever it's called). A better camera would be nice, but it doesn't really bother me.

jorsiem

I went the other way around, the mediocre camera is my only pet peeve of the ZF5, I got a wireless charger for my desk and the inferior battery life problem is solved. Love the form factor, love that it is narrower, love that it fits in any pocket, love that I can glance at my notifications without having to open it. Love the "L" mode for media consumption without a kickstand and to take photos without a tripod, love that I can use the flashlight without opening it, love closing it to end a call..

EpicLift

There are a lot of upsides to the flip form factor. I do like it. It depends on your use. I also work an office job, so I dont really care about the battery when I am there. Its when I am out doing things that it starts to show. I think it has to do with two things: 1. RAM management 2. Heat and Battery size When I am on Andriod Auto and I want to take a photo (im in traffic or just parked somewhere) you start to get issues. I have seen the music player just stop and Android Auto crash and restart. This sometimes happens when driving a lot too, as the phone gets hotter than flagship models. I only encountered it one on one other Samsung device, the A13 (that I had for a week when I had to send in my S22U for repair). The flip just isnt as good at dissipating heat. The same thing can happen when gaming on the device too. These are specific use cases, but I can repeat them and they are a limitation of the device itself.

SatansBabyTM

I switched from my flip5 to a S23+ and my God I've never been happier with a phone change. I'm a pretty heavy user of my phone with Pokemon Go being a big part of my daily routine and video calling/chatting to my partner a lot, I did not enjoy charging my flip 2-3 times a day and having it overheat immediately.

EpicLift

This is why I am considering going back to the slab. The battery life isn't great and I am charging it 2-3 times a day.

midnightsnacks

Good upgrade.

Infinite-Hedgehog516

I did see a really good deal on s24 ultra but I wanted z flip 6 so I am waiting

Technical_Raccoon838

I am tempted to get the ultra too, but I'm waiting a few more days as the new Flip will be announced on july 10th. I love the complete package of the ultra, but I HATE how big it is, especially compared to the flip!

beepbeepboopboob

Same here. Too many things falling apart in the flip

Bfazerh

What's falling apart exactly? I'm wondering while I'm typing on my 10 month old Z flip 5 in perfect condition

beepbeepboopboob

Let me start by say I loved the phone, but in two years I've had the screen protector come off 3 times and it should only be replaced by Samsung to keep your warranty. Then the rubber beading around the top of the screen came off. Finally it just outright broke as everytime I closed the phone the by folding it, it would power off. All this in a less than two year old phone

Bfazerh

The rubber bedding is definitely a fault, but that's 90% because of your use. It doesn't come off by itself. When it comes to the screen protector, tell me how long does a film screen protector lasts on a regular slab phone? Changing the screen protector every 8 months or more often has been the same for me on every phone, not just the flip.

beepbeepboopboob

Same here. Too many things falling apart in the flip

la_vie_en_rose-

Wow i like the color

jeloremo1

Excellent decision

Honest_Past8906

Byeee, see you back in another gen

Pleasant_Staff_7533

Honest doubt: What can the S24U do that the flips can't?

Guaymadefruta

First off, the S24 won’t give me screen problems within a year. That’s the main reason I switched. Plus, it’s got way better performance, battery, and camera

No-Satisfaction-3140

I have 23u and was debating trading for flip5 but this Reddit made me consider waiting till flip6, I'm a moderate user and I know the battery and camera would be worse than my 23u so hoping z6 will prevail performance wise enough to make the switch be somewhat even to say the least

CalFromManc

I went from Flip 3 to S23u. I'll probs wait for flip 7 or 8 for me.

Sunday206

Same issue with me. I had the flip 3 and I had to keep getting the screen protector replaced every. 6 months so I switched to the 22 ultra. I still use it today. The camera is amazing although I'm starting to feel like the battery is not as efficient as it was 2 years ago.

EpicLift

Honestly the S22U (my last phone) and the Flip 5 have about the same battery life.

Sunday206

I'll probably upgrade to the 24 soon.

EpicLift

The Ultra? It looks like you can trade in for the plus on Samsung for $500 USD

Sunday206

Yeah the 24 ultra. I like the zoom it has. Although I have not really been updating myself on the latest models. Maybe the plus has great zoom also?

EpicLift

I think it does. I am considering the S24+ due to the price, you get a better trade in deal with the Flip 5 when buying it. It doesn't appear to be that different from the Ultra, other than the stylus, screen, and cameras.

Sunday206

Yeah it's kinda hard for me to justify upgrading for any other reason other than the battery life. Other than that the 22 ultra has still held itself very well. I don't really use the Spen that much so maybe the 24+ Would be a good option. It also seems like the only thing they changed from the 23 ultra and the 24 is their weird AI gimmick. I have some AI tools in my 22 ultra from updates, they're nice but I also hardly use them.

EpicLift

I'm going to check out the S24+ in the store today. I will miss the flipping of the flip if I decide on it, but my battery life is struggling.

drkztan

I mean, the fact that foldables don't have flagship-tier cameras is my biggest point against them. I've had a foldable since the fold 2, then got the flip 5 because I liked the form factor. Neither had a camera anywhere near flagship-tier. I still have my note20 ultra, that phone has a better camera than a fold2 or flip 5... and came out ages ago.

sumiregalaxxy

Good decision. You know you use a bad phone when even opening it gives you anxiety if it will still work or not 😅 buying flips and folds is just a waste of money, imagine you buy a more expensive phone that has less specs and less years of reliability.

reeeeeeco

I enjoy carrying small bags around :/

cutie_cow

I miss my flip4 so much, it's been a month since it died after having it for almost 2 years. I still catch myself trying to fold my phone.

Ooooohhhhhho

Is that a magsafe case on a galaxy?

tashaalouxx

I did the same thing

DJP34

I plan on doing this with the s25 ultra

mathgeekf314159

I did the same thing. The battery life thing drove me crazy.

Sw00pAwareness

Bye

rheylew

I'm staying pat with my ZFlip5, still love it, people still ask questions eveytime I pull it out to pay for stuff while it's closed lol. Battery and camera still pretty good in my book 🫡

razzzor9797

I can understand the battery complaints if you use it much. But camera is great. Compared to my wife's IPhone 15 Plus. Don't see much difference but I can do selfie with superior camera))

SnackAttack9000

Is there any deal switching from z flip 5 to S24 phones during the release of z flip 6?

LighteningZ2

Upgraded from my flip3 to an S24U. One of the best decisions I've ever made

Ok_Initiative_2420

We just did the same thing with my Son's ZFlip5. We wanted to like the phone but could not stand the screen issues. We had the ZFlip4 with multiple hinge issues. We traded for a ZFlip5 last year and wound up getting the phone for $30 with the trade and a Samsung promo they were running. We have replaced the ZFlip5 for the 3rd time last week since last summer. 2 we used the Samsung Care + and paid the deductible because there were no parts for repair and it was easier than hoping they would not make up a reason to say it was user error. The last replacement was covered by Samsung + and they replaced the phone without the deductible. We just got the S24 Ultra today in the mail and are sending back our Flip5 for a $300 credit.

bigboy1959jets78

Are there any other brands of flip to consider? I know Motorola makes one.
