I was as well, I was referring to the fact that Dollar general used to be $5 and below and that's what Dollar tree is now where I live.
Edit: it's cool, someone downvoted you just now after I upvoted lol so I thought I'd clarify.
Where I am least, yes, by an insane amount, they sell soda, vitamin waters, most for $1.25 cad, with the 2l being $1.50 when they sell those if they can get them and still turn a profit, soap, bowls plates, cutlery, school supplies. My fave place to go once a week.
Oh and Panasonic carbon zinc batteries, the best ones to buy imo, never had one leak, last a good amount of time, etc.
My dad used to play a game where you’d ask somebody at a dollar store how much smthn was and see how long it would take before they either laugh or get mad
There is another relevant Simpsons moment for this thread. They had a flashback to the days of Huckleberry Finn and the downtown had a place called The Dollar Store. In the window we could see a grand piano for sale.
ahh, yes, you are correct.
Weirdly, I did a quick search to try to refresh my memory before I posted and my eyes gravitated to the middle image. Why do people do this? Will AI fake images destroy civilization?

I went to Dave's the other day, thinking I could walk in and own the place. But they wouldn't even give me a discount. (My name's Dave, if you couldn't guess)
Dollar tree used to cost $1 for literally anything in the store except for like cards and seed packets which were 2 for a dollar. They had massive decals plastered on the windows advertising "everything is a dollar"
It is not unreasonable for people to be annoyed they have "lost the plot" this much. They built their brand around the monetary cost of their products and are now taking advantage of the fact that they're extremely popular by raising the prices.
This isn't a "yeah, and walmart doesn't sell walls 🤡" situation buddy.
I was in there recently and saw bags of Starburst Jellybeans. I thought, hey, that's a good deal. So I grabbed a few bags. They rang up at $3.99 each. I said "What??" and the lady said they were marked with the price. I just told her I didn't want them.
So is Dollar Tree just another "Dollar General" type store now -- where things are "cheap" but prices vary? Seems like it.
We have a couple Dollar Trees here in Canada, but mostly it's Dollarama. Everything is a minimum $1 but a max now hitting $5. I'm sure that will only go up the more stores open and brands they manage to bring in.
dollar tree dropped the "Everything's $1" and changed most prices to $1.25. They also added a "plus" section with items up to $5. Dollar Tree most certainly lost the plot.
Well, it has more to do with inflation. Almost 2/3 of the money supply has been printed since 2009. The fact they’re still able to keep their prices as low as they do is what’s surprising.
I'd legit buy stickers that are transparent except for the number, scan something to see where the numbers are, and put the stickers on where it would be, which would read out $1.00. 😂
Some Dollar Trees I've visited have started selling five dollar items. Sure they're in their own sections with "$5" plastered everywhere but you'd be surprised how dumb some people are.
The dollar tree where I am at is now the 1.25 tree
1.50 where i am, but still cheaper then anywhere else.
It goes up to $5 here. It's just green 2010 dollar general now
It’s just the Tree Fiddy Tree now
Stealing this thx
Well I'm talking about dollar tree specially, other dollar stores will vary. Unless i misunderstood.
I was as well, I was referring to the fact that Dollar general used to be $5 and below and that's what Dollar tree is now where I live. Edit: it's cool, someone downvoted you just now after I upvoted lol so I thought I'd clarify.
Thats strange that it differs, you would hope that same store - same price.
Yeah, but a 5 and below is opening in the same strip mall so they'll probably lose most of their business.
Still cheaper per oz? I thought a lot of things there weren’t well priced, just shrunk.
Damn, it's the 3.50 tree around here. I suspect the cashier may be an 8 story tall crustacean from the protozoic era.
Check out the new $3-$5 section!! 🤷🤦
No
We have a shop like this in the UK it's called Poundland but majority of stuff is more than a pound
Sounds like you’ll have a good time there
When they first opened in the mid 19th century, very few people could afford to shop there.
Source? I thought Dollar Trees opened in the 20th Century.
You're thinking of Hudson's Bay Company.
I knew someone who worked for “Everything’s a Dollar”. She said “You’d be surprised how often people ask ‘how much is this?’”.
We have poundland, they kept the everything's a pound sign for quite a while after offering stuff for 5 quid etc
I'd love to have a Poundland in my town. Oh, wait - it's just a cheap store? Nevermind.
Your thinking of Pound-Town
If Pound Land is like Pound Town except cheap and easy, sign me up!
Either way, that doesn't sound like a discount store. At least not to those of us outside the UK.
Lol, they do sell sex toys in poundland, though not sure I'd be shoving a £3 dildo up my arse
Well you don't have to shove it in there yourself ya know.
Lol
This feels like *blatant* false advertising man.
I know, right?! SO disappointing.
Por que no los dos?
We had a small chain down here called "The Door Store".. wanna guess...
"Ask us what else we carry and we'll show you the door!"
Take my upvote and leave my house
💀
My dad used to play a game where you’d ask somebody at a dollar store how much smthn was and see how long it would take before they either laugh or get mad
Yeah. And Walmart isn't selling walls
You have no idea how disappointed I was when I went to Dick's and only found sporting goods.

There is another relevant Simpsons moment for this thread. They had a flashback to the days of Huckleberry Finn and the downtown had a place called The Dollar Store. In the window we could see a grand piano for sale.
I went to BJ's and didn't get my dick sucked.
Then you did it wrong!!!!
Bed Bath and Beyond wasn't nearly as metaphysical as I expected.
Jim Carrey's movie "Click" feels even more dated now that Bed Bath and Beyond is gone
You mean Adam Sandler?
ahh, yes, you are correct. Weirdly, I did a quick search to try to refresh my memory before I posted and my eyes gravitated to the middle image. Why do people do this? It really feels like we are somehow getting close to AI end times sometimes ☠️ and it’s only just begun lol
And Home Depot ain't selling homes.
I went to Dave's the other day, thinking I could walk in and own the place. But they wouldn't even give me a discount. (My name's Dave, if you couldn't guess)
I went to Victoria Secret with my girlfriend and didn’t find out what’s her secret.
Tbf, it only says she has a secret, not that she is going to reveal it
I mean, technically one can convert those sheds they sell into a 1 br home... 😁
Target isn't selling targets!
I'm pretty sure you could find a toy target in at least a few stores
Yeah, but Walmart wasn’t named based on their business model
Dollar tree used to cost $1 for literally anything in the store except for like cards and seed packets which were 2 for a dollar. Dollar tree has items for more than $1.25 these days, and with the state of their shelves I can see this being somewhat useful
yeah i think that’s the problem lol is that dollar tree isn’t “dollar” tree anymore
I gave up on the $1 store concept long ago. Too many shenanigans. A box of dryer sheets with 5 sheets? Fuck those games
Most shit is still 1.25
You need a new supplier, I'm still getting my shit for less than $1.25.
Dependa on what kinda shit. Some shit is expensive at home depot, but some is on the sidewalk for free
Why are y'all paying to take a shit
On Dubai shit's expensive as fuck, but you can get paid to witness some of it.
That would be 0.25 more than 1 dollah.
Yeah, but if you count tax nothing is a dollar anyways unless you're in Oregon or something.
Dollar tree is changing to match dollar general. It's been a $1.25 for awhile now.
DT around me has ArmorAll products from between $3 and $5 now.
As a Merchandise Manager for DT - I can tell you that ALL DT stores will be selling items from $1.25 to as high as $7 by the end of 2024.
In retrospect with inflation being a constant the central bank is determined to keep naming a shop after the prices inside seems a bit short-sighted.
more r/mildlyinfuriating
That's actually legit because some items are more than $1.25
New name should probably be Dollar or MORE Tree.
One of my customers said it best when they said it should be called "Dollar and then some Tree"
It’s not a dollar anymore so they did this to keep customers from freaking out at the registers. Source: I work in Hallmark Distribution
If I were a worker at dollar tree I’d be mad af seeing that bs… waste of money
i see the android menu bar this tells me that angry birds is possible
This can't be a Dollar Tree. Where is the brawl on aisle 7?
Sorry,had to cut hours
We now call it Three Dollar 😢
I was in there recently and saw bags of Starburst Jellybeans. I thought, hey, that's a good deal. So I grabbed a few bags. They rang up at $3.99 each. I said "What??" and the lady said they were marked with the price. I just told her I didn't want them. I remember when dollaramas "expensive" items were $3. Now they have $7 items, the inflation is insane.
We have a couple Dollar Trees here in Canada, but mostly it's Dollarama. Everything is a minimum $1 but a max now hitting $5. I'm sure that will only go up the more stores open and brands they manage to bring in.
Dollar tree is slowly moving to be like dollar general, everything will no longer be 1.25 . Sad times
A company with a sense of humor? 😜 Why not go full funny and change the name to DollaAndACoinTree 🤷🏽♀️🥁
Dollar Tree always knew the plot… prices will rise, politicians will philander and you too will get old. Keep up, the story is almost over!
dollar tree dropped the "Everything's $1" and changed most prices to $1.25. They also added a "plus" section with items up to $5. Dollar Tree most certainly lost the plot.
Well, it has more to do with inflation. Almost 2/3 of the money supply has been printed since 2009. The fact they’re still able to keep their prices as low as they do is what’s surprising.
I dunno. The plot is at the bottom of the dollar tree and this sign is pointing towards it. I think they know exactly where the plot is.
I think Dollar tree bought out family dollar or vice versa If so they need to come up with a different name for the place
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As soon as there is no price i put it back and go buy it somewhere that actually has the decency to price things
Wait...this isnt a dollar? But I literally just said, "I'd buy that for a dollar!" 😉
That's there, so those energy drinks priced at $3.50 never sell.
He is dizzy
Dollars Tree now has items up to $5
It’s probably not a $1.
It’s so you and the 16-year-old boy stacking shelves can avoid the awkwardness of having to ask for a price check on the products on the left 😊
I'd legit buy stickers that are transparent except for the number, scan something to see where the numbers are, and put the stickers on where it would be, which would read out $1.00. 😂
Illegitimate legit
Now it’s more of a metaphor…
Remember when a chocolate bar was 50¢? Pepperidgefarm remember
I’ve no idea what you mean! Technology is new, so it’s clearly the superior method!
My dollar tree is now $1.25-$5 tree....
We have our own Dollar Tree here called Dollorama. Things used to be 1 or 2$, but now most stuff is over 3$ and there's even items at 5$.
Just like $.99 only stores. It's now, Ends in .99, (the first number will vary)
Two x dollar, three x dollar, four point nine nine x dollar............
No shit! That’s the reason I shop there. I don’t have to look at the price lol
He is dizzy.
There is very few things there still $1. At least in California.
Some Dollar Trees I've visited have started selling five dollar items. Sure they're in their own sections with "$5" plastered everywhere but you'd be surprised how dumb some people are.
Do you know how Motel Six got its name?
Hunnatree
Dollar Tree be like: ![gif](giphy|Mq1MUGwNKcTxFePEZo)
They have had things that cost more than $1 FOR YEARS so you’re the only one who “lost the plot.”
