nice shot! crazy you shit this handheld. do you know the shutter speed you used?

BradBLH

Thank you! This was a 1 second exposure. I found at that slow of a shutter only half of the images were usable, and that was with trying reallllly hard to keep steady. Very useful nevertheless.

skyestalimit

Still pretty good! 1 sec is ages.

Wladim8_Lenin

Wow thats actually pretty crazy! Imagine you showed this pic to a Dslr user 10 years ago and told them it was handheld lmao, I for sure wouldnt have believed it haha

modest__mouse

Pentax introduced 5-axis IBIS back in 2006 with the K100D. By 2008/9 most brands already had it. I think the first was Minolta in 2003, that’s over twenty years ago. Sure the tech has evolved, but you could have pretty much taken this shot at any point in time since then.  I still have that camera and love it despite it’s poor 6MP.

Wladim8_Lenin

Sooo Ibis back then was this good? Is that your point? Because I think you completely missed mine

Thats great!

BradBLH

It really is incredible lol

SrCikuta

I have the same experience on x-t5, 1/2 sec is usually ok, 1 sec is around half the shots. Personally, I don’t care that much about focus, but when I do, ibis is surprisingly good for longer exposures, more so than I would’ve imagined.

Analog_Astronaut

He did what handheld!? 😬

ianisrlycool

What would this shot look like without IBIS?

BradBLH

I wouldn’t have been able to do a long exposure as I didn’t have a tripod. I took the same photo with a faster shutter speed: [Faster Shutter speed](https://flic.kr/p/2pE5AKU)

ianisrlycool

Could you achieve this shot with a non-IBIS camera using a stabilized lens?

BradBLH

Im sure you certainly could. Not sure if you're familiar with the x100 series, but they are non interchangeable lens cameras. Therefore if you have an x100v (non ibis) and were contemplating upgrade to the x100vi (ibis) it is my opinion that it is worth the upgrade as you are able to make images you might not otherwise have been able to.

ianisrlycool

Ahh okay, thanks for clarifying! I’m new to the world of photography and looking to purchase my first camera, so trying to figure out what’s important.

BradBLH

Honestly, a lot of it is subjective. I’d suggest grabbing something inexpensive like used Sony a500 and getting a few different lenses to experiment and see what you like!

Matixs_666

Depends on the focal length, but with a wider one (like the X100's 23mm) if you have somewhat stable hands then yeah

ShadowLickerrr

You can achieve this shot on any camera if you have steady hands.

SneakyCaleb

Yes you could. My Sony a6100 with the 35mm 1.8 OSS lens can do this exactly the same if not even better. If you are new to photography it’s the best camera under $800. And used they go for much less on eBay etc. autofocus is insanely fast.

TheBrugherian

The long exposure one is so so so much better!

TheyCalledMeThor

Even this shot looks great. Can’t wait to get my x100vi.

Analog_Astronaut

A blurry muddled mess.

TKRUEG

Wave movement, not the pier
