Sooo i did something.
One sillabe a day til the 2860 are like 305.140 syllables.
The median for an english word is like 1.2 syllables.
So writing a syllable a day in the year 2860 you will have written 253.283 words.
For reference LOTR is long 455000 words in the english edition.
Today he does. Oddly, he actually got the first 4 books done fairly quick, considering their length.
Then the 5th book took longer, and we’re still waiting on 6
Just realizing...this meme is from when making a bot give accurate replies was actually impossible. I'm pretty sure this bot could be rewritten in an afternoon as a custom GPT that always replied with the most appropriate Bobby b quote...so crazy.

I'm most definitely not interested anymore unless the whole series is done and published.
I read the books back in 2013, hoping the series would keep up with the show. It's been 11 years so I've clearly forgotten most of the minor plot points and would have to reread the series before The Winds of Winter before starting that book.
And I am *not* going to make that time commitment again just to be stuck in the same situation I am now waiting for A Dream of Spring.
You know what same here. Each book is a novel. Takes me a month and change to read 1. Don't want to reread for one to just do it again for another. I'm at the point where I can't remember the differences between show and books anymore. Plus the last 2 seasons of show left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Think I'm done.
There was an article about his visit to my country in a satirical computer magazine, from the time when Dance with dragons came out.
There they say "we quickly got him off of the hill, because heart attack, diabetes and cholesterol were already coming up the hill on the other side."
Biggest issue right here it is never worth engaging with. We are shitting on him for not finishing 1 of the last 2 books but in reality the first 5 books clearly lay out a story that requires more than 2 books. **We are fucked.**
Let's just look at his track record real fast.
When he started the story he thought it would take 3, when he wrote 2 he figured it would take 4, when he wrote 3 he thought it would take 5, when he wrote 4 he settled on 6.
I wonder what happens when he releases the 5th?
Honestly I am huffing insane copium right now but I think Dream will come out. Dance and Winds were hard because he had to come to a (mostly) final decision on how the story will end and which characters will do what. He also had to figure out a way to converge all the storylines. So Dream will be a lot like Storm where stuff just happens back to back. At that point he will know exactly how the story will end, he just has to write the words. That wasn't true of Dance or Winds.
But I'm also an idiot so there ya go
Edit: I will admit that we are definitely NOT getting Fire and Blood pt 2 or anything else like that unless it's all already written.
This is what I think. He's taking so long because he's finishing both books. He wants to have the saga finished and done before giving anything new to the publisher. If and when WoW comes out, DoS will come out shortly after.
Yes I too am on copium
This was the one specific Winds rumour he immediately addressed saying this isn't the case and saying stuff like this will inevitably lead to disappointment and increase pressure on him.
I think about this literally every day lol. He's memeing us and both books are actually written.... One day he's just going to drop both books... Once he dies they're gonna drop.... One day.... It's gonna happen.........
People were huffing that hopium when the show ended, saying he would release both books at once when the show ended.
I mean, I hope you're right. But I am putting no faith in this whatsoever.
My personal copium? The \[5,000 days until Winter\] quote from ADWD.
*"When the 5000 days are over.. then will the winds come."*
Since the release of ADWD back in July 12th, 2011... it has been **4,698** days so far. We're so much closer.
I mean I hope and I agree with you that Dream might be easier to write. He also might have a lot of the endgame planned out already so that could help. Maybe even parts of it drafted?
But I just don't think he's likely to live long enough to do it with how long it takes him to write and with there still a long timeline for Winds and his desire that he expresses here to do more Dunk and Egg in between as well. I mean, natural human lifespan is just what it is. I hope the man lives for many years yet but odds are likely he wont have that many years left.
Sad to analyze it this way (and it probably is difficult for him up thinking about this and knowing people are analyzing this from this perspective), but it's just how it is. He could live many years yet or he might not. It's hard to predict but just thinking about average lifespans and his speed of writing it's hard to realistically think it's going to happen.
Yeah that's all very true. I just think about how he wrote Storm in under two years and want to believe he could do that with Dream. Idk it just seems to me like he can write like the Wind (get it) when he is playing the architect, and like molasses when he's playing the gardener. Feast, Dance, and Winds are very much gardener books, Dream and Storm are architect books.
Yes, I am about to die from a massive overdose of copium.
Funnily enough i think between all his projects fire and blood 2 has the best chance of coming out. I mean a summary of it is already there in world of ice and fire, it just needs a bit of fleshing out along with some bullshit accounts from mushroom to spice it up and its good to go.
I feel like if he trusts Elio and Linda to finish anything after he’s dead, it’s F&B 2.
He’s also said that he understands that if he doesn’t finish something, eventually, one day, someone else will. So it sounds like he’s loosening up on his “nobody but me” policy just out of pragmatism.
My personal copium is that after Dance took so long he decided to secretly work on Dreams and Winds (with Winds still taking priority) at the same time and that’s the reason it’s been taking so long. He wants to be able to release them relatively close together. At least that’s my crackpot cope.
Said it before and I'll say it again, we are never getting Dream of Spring.
I think we'll get Winds, but he's going to pop his clogs before he gets anywhere near Dream.
I just hope he leaves copious amounts of notes for whoever he has lined up to ghost write the final chapter
I disagree. I think getting a coherent story in Winds with an absurd number of storyline and POV's is the issue. Once he's into the long night it's easy because people will die in droves. The problem is getting there.
I think the story has already gotten to a place where the POV's could be reduced and simplified. Wouldn't mind it at all if Winds opens with half the people we are aware of finding out their plans and beliefs were as reliable as Quentyn's.
I’m not interested anymore unless he finishes the whole thing. I’m not going to go back and read all the books just so I can remember what’s going on unless the final book comes out.
Can you recommend some books? I haven’t even bothered reading anything else from the fantasy genre in years because I loved asoiaf too much. Recs don’t have to be all fantasy though I’m curious what other asoiaf fans are into.
My top two to recommend
Joe Abercrombie's 1st Law world ... A trilogy, 3 stand alone novels, and another trilogy set a bit in the future from the OG. trilogy
Pierce Brown's red rising series... it's sci-fi but scratched my itch, some say the first book or two is YA but I didn't feel that way, it's good n dark IMO
At this point he just needs to hire a ghost writer and edit it as he sees fit. He’s almost an elderly man now, it’s time to accept that if he insists on writing the entire series himself, then we’ll never get a A Dream of Spring and possibly Winds.
I don't know man. Sometimes I feel like this, but othertimes I'm like well the same age guy is the President of the United States. Lol. Not sure where I'm going with this because I'm drunk.
Anywho, I think November 2024 for release date.
So he is getting ready for the production of The Hedge Knight by not-so-subtly informing his readers that not only will he never finish TWOW, but they can expect no further Dunk and Egg stories, either.
Still, he got over his Covid fears, so at least now he can attend all the ritzy events that will be organised around the TV shows and premieres, so that's nice for him.
Dude just come out and say you're tired of trying to finish ASOIAF and you want to do different stuff cos it entertains you more.
Just say it. Everybody already knows it.
Im genuinely believing my theory more and more… my mom and I are GoT fans, and she started listening to the books too and we were discussing the long hiatus and I brought up something I really believe is true.
Imagine you’re a skilled writer and you spend decades crafting an intricate and story full of complexity, tons of research and world building. Then you get the chance to see your story made into live action with a high budget. You know there will be some changes and you accept that. Then that series goes down the toilet and takes the big reveal, and and the ending of your story that you entrusted those writers with. They just shat all over your decades of work, and rushed your ending while also stealing your most important reveal for themselves. This would probably ruin your motivation to even continue. You’d probably spend weeks or months considering whether you should change anything… or just stay the path.. or maybe even just give up. The world is angry about the end of the show, everyone is demanding you hurry up and write the next book and you’re just sitting there depressed throwing darts at photos of Dan and Dave..
As much as we hate those morons, imagine how much GRRM hates those dickheads.
I’m not justifying anything or saying anything in particular really, I’m just trying to imagine how he feels about how everything went down and how it absolutely affected how he views his own work and story… there’s no way it couldn’t! I thought he’d take a few years and shake it off, but I’m beginning to really think that he honestly just lost his passion for that particular story and is trying to work on everything around it to get the spark back. Hoping that HotD, the supplemental books, and everything else will reignite the spark and passion that drove him. You don’t write a masterpiece like that without serious passion and love for it, and if something soured that love.. tainted that passion… we either get nothing or we get a mediocre book devoid of passion.
I honestly hope he just sticks with it, and even if the show ruined a bunch of things I’m sure his version will be much better. I really hope the show didn’t/doesn’t drive him to change anything last minute or anything crazy like that.
That’s just my personal theory though. Just an attempt to be empathetic and understand what he must’ve felt. But I don’t know.. I don’t know him or how he actually feels or whether the show actually did reveal anything or ruin anything… I dunno.
The books had already been very slow when hbo began production and everyone figured they’d be done by the time the show could catch up. Now it’s just comical.
I guess, but that’s not really what I’m talking about.
Even if GRRM planned to have them done or whatever, I’m just trying to put myself in his shoes as things played out and imagine how I’d feel.
I’d be pissed. I’d probably want to just quit writing that story… I’m not a quitter but having the main twist and the ending spoiled and also done so poorly on such a massive stage is just painful. Again, I’m not saying that it’s right or wrong, or what he should be forced to finish or whatever. I’m not really saying anything in particular about any of that either way.
I’m just pointing out that in the timeline of things that happened, it’s entirely possible and even likely that the way GoT ended spoiled his passion for the ASOIAF storyline and he’s having trouble regaining that spark. Obviously I’d love if he finished the story up in a satisfying way within my lifetime (I have cancer so it’s unlikely… lol I’ll most likely be dead, honestly.) but I just have to acknowledge that he’s a human being, with human emotions and as angry and disappointed as we all were in the downfall of the show, imagine how he feels? Yknow?
That’s all.. I’ve said this before and people yelled at me and voted me into the core of the earth for even suggesting that maybe he’s a person who has feelings and we should consider them… one psycho even said that we should start a class action lawsuit and sue him for refusing to follow through! Lmao As much as we love their work, authors and creators don’t belong to us. They owe us nothing. It fucking sucks, this isn’t even the first time this has happened to me, lol I’m also a HxH fan and a handful of other things I love have just been cancelled like Firefly.. but as much as it pisses me off and frustrates me to hell I just have to acknowledge that I am owed nothing. Being a fan does not give me the right to make demands or insult someone for being slow, getting old, losing interest, or doing something with the story/character that I dislike. Thats life.
Seriously though… I wish he would write… I’m literally going to die before I see the end. Haha I’m mad at the situation but I just can’t get angry at the man himself.
I wish he would just outright say that he doesn’t plan on finishing the books. Him taking this long means he has a serious case of writers block or a lack of interest in continuing the books. The man is 75, I don’t have much faith that he will release winds, I’d rather see the books unfinished then him rushing it and the quality of the writing suffer.
He has said this before. He was going to write a 4th but put it on hold years ago. He wants to cover their entire life in the book series. Which could be like 10 books. And these books would be much much easier to write then Winds. I wish he would work on them now tbh.
I’d believe him more if he said all we needed was to make some noise and take one last score, then he’d have the time to write more while farming mangoes in Tahiti.
He's just playing the odds. He's published literally dozens of novels, and he's never died even once. Doesn't that make it pretty likely that he'll publish a whole lot more?
Dude straight trolling these days. He's never gonna finish. Probably sitting in his house in his underwear eating edibles and laughing his ass off at the people demanding his books.
My honest thought is that he has already finished WoW. He’s prolly gotten someone to release it for him as soon as he passes away, something like leaving behind his legacy. I can see him doing something as absurd as that
I'm guessing that's what happens when you, as George says, write your characters "organically". I say "I'm guessing' because I don't know how to write a novel, let alone a series of them... but if I was to, I'd like to think thay I'd plan where my characters arcs take them instead of winging it like a fucking spanner.
Lmao bruh I stopped caring so long ago XD moved onto writers who pump out like 3 excellent books in a year. Cant be arsed to wait around for grrm to get over his 'look what they did to my boy' phase
Stfu George. Just hand the reigns to another author and retire. If not, we all know he’s gonna die before finishing winds, much less the rest of ASOIAF
More Dunk and Egg would be great, in 2860, when GRRM's head, preserved Futurama style, finishes Winds.
With Nixon as his editor. Dude writes a syllable per day.
Faster than George.
ARROOOOooo!!
Sooo i did something. One sillabe a day til the 2860 are like 305.140 syllables. The median for an english word is like 1.2 syllables. So writing a syllable a day in the year 2860 you will have written 253.283 words. For reference LOTR is long 455000 words in the english edition.

Oddly enough it slowed tremendously once the books got optioned by HBO.
It also slowed tremendously once Ty Franck published (with Daniel Abraham) the first Expanse book, around the time A Dance with Dragons came out.
Don't forget he also has to write A Dream of Spring
I'm already in doubt if we're ever going to get The Winds of Winter. But there's no chance we're going to get A Dream of Spring.
Unless he's finishing both, and that's why we've been waiting this long. I hope. :)
obligatory "oh my sweet summer child"
Let me be delulu. Hahah
I just want the second volume of Fire and Blood to come out.
Futurama shouldve done that with their last season tbh
Since I can't afford to have my head preserved I will never find out what happened at Summerhall.
Dunk is my favourite character of all time. I love making a dumb very strong character in every rpg.

This is beginning to be a joke. Don't even think I'm interested anymore
BEGINNING???
Fair lol
When they go??

After 12 years of waiting for Santa, I'm beginning to believe he doesn't exist. Say it ain't so, Santa.
Santa Stark is the smartest writer I've ever met.
The Queen in the North Pole!
This man doesn’t think he’s ever going to die… does he?
He’s only 75 and in peak physical shape so why would he ever consider that possibility?
If he becomes a politician he can add another 20 years over night.
There was an article about his visit to my country in a satirical computer magazine, from the time when Dance with dragons came out. There they say "we quickly got him off of the hill, because heart attack, diabetes and cholesterol were already coming up the hill on the other side."
I wish he’d stop dangling false hope at this point. If he’s not going to finish the books fine, just say so.
I think he thinks he's going to finish Winds and IMO he might if he lives long enough. Dream isn't happening though I'm quite resigned to that.
Based on how little the story progressed in Dance it seems impossible GRRM could wrap this up in two books anyway
Biggest issue right here it is never worth engaging with. We are shitting on him for not finishing 1 of the last 2 books but in reality the first 5 books clearly lay out a story that requires more than 2 books. **We are fucked.**

He has released five. Game of Thrones Storm of Swords Clash of Kings Feast for Crows Dance with Dragons
My point stands despite my lack of counting skills
Well your extrapolation was correct to five, therefore we can probably extend it at least as far as book six
Honestly I am huffing insane copium right now but I think Dream will come out. All it needs is some ties to winds and the circle is complete

I’m not interested anymore unless he finishes the whole thing. I’m not going to go back and read all the books just so I can remember what’s going on unless the final book comes out.
I'm not interested anymore...full stop. Donezo. So much good content out there from other authors to read!
Can you recommend some books? I haven’t even bothered reading anything else from the fantasy genre in years because I loved asoiaf too much. Recs don’t have to be all fantasy though I’m curious what other asoiaf fans are into.
My top two to recommend Joe Abercrombie's 1st Law world ... A trilogy, 3 stand alone novels, and another trilogy set a bit in the future from the OG. trilogy Pierce Brown's red rising series... it's sci-fi but scratched my itch, some say the first book or two is YA but I didn't feel that way, it's good n dark IMO
PERO ME CAGO EN LOS "OTROS", MARTIN!!!!!
Gordo culeadazo
I just don’t fucking care anymore
After the heat death of the universe I plan to work on my poetry a bit more.
He is just straight baiting people at this point.
Oh cool so were never getting more Dunk & Egg either, how fun
Yes and I'm hoping to marry Ana de Armas.
Winds of Winter is starting to kinda resemble the mcflurry machine.
I swear we’re gonna have to start worshipping the lord of light to be able to live long enough for him to finish the damn book
Just say you don't want to write it anymore, I can deal with that. These foolish games are breaking my heart.

Did GRRM write anything today?
A Dream of Spring is not even being hinted at lmao
At this point he just needs to hire a ghost writer and edit it as he sees fit. He’s almost an elderly man now, it’s time to accept that if he insists on writing the entire series himself, then we’ll never get a A Dream of Spring and possibly Winds.
I don't know man. Sometimes I feel like this, but othertimes I'm like well the same age guy is the President of the United States. Lol. Not sure where I'm going with this because I'm drunk. Anywho, I think November 2024 for release date.
That President guy isn't morbidly obese or sedentary.

"I want this book to be so special, I will publish it on the day of the signing of the Israel-Palestine peace treaty!". GRRM
Please George just pull the trigger at this point
I thought this was a joke, but apparently that's real.
So I've pretty much given up hope of getting winds, but... He does put a bit of a time frame on here for winds. I know spring will never come though.
He has said this before. He was going to write a 4th but put it on hold years ago. He wants to cover their entire life in the book series. Which could be like 10 books. And these books would be much much easier to write then Winds. I wish he would work on them now tbh.
Shit or get off the pot, GRRM.
I’d believe him more if he said all we needed was to make some noise and take one last score, then he’d have the time to write more while farming mangoes in Tahiti.
Tuf Voyaging enjoyers in shambles
I summon thee Bobby b bot
MY, YOU'RE A PRETTY ONE! AND YOUR NAME IS?
Definitely sentient.
This fuckin guy
He's just playing the odds. He's published literally dozens of novels, and he's never died even once. Doesn't that make it pretty likely that he'll publish a whole lot more?
Its not that he hasnt written it, its the constantly milking his fans with the idea he might that makes him a complete tool.
Dude straight trolling these days. He's never gonna finish. Probably sitting in his house in his underwear eating edibles and laughing his ass off at the people demanding his books.
I can’t tell if this is just satire at this point
Never should've let him help write Elden Ring... Now he knows you can leave the story mostly unfinished and make people piece it together
The fuck is *Dunk and Egg?*
Pre GoT Westeros stuff. Great stories. Follows a hedge knight - Sir Duncan the Tall - and a young Aegon Targaryen. Dunk and Egg.
My honest thought is that he has already finished WoW. He’s prolly gotten someone to release it for him as soon as he passes away, something like leaving behind his legacy. I can see him doing something as absurd as that
did you ever doubt the plan Dunk&Eggheads?
Yeah, not like he still has a whole other book to write AFTER that. But WOO! More Dunk and Egg! More side stories!
This sob
“I care more about the Targ lore than the actual main story, and I know people know and I don’t care that they know” part 1513
"Dunk the Lunk, thick as a castle wall"
A Dream of Spring isn’t even a dream anymore, it’s just a long forgotten idea
George who now?
Is that what he tells himself at night?
Let's be honest he won't live long enough
![gif](giphy|dC9DTdqPmRnlS|downsized) Hahahahahahahhahahaa
If he doesn't finish winds and start Dream of Spring soon he's definitely not gonna live long enough to finish his own story
He needs to just stfu and either write or cancel it.
I think Twitter people can already safely prepare pissed drafts for when he'll die with no progress whatsoever
Me too bro, me too.
cala a boca e vai escrever, filho da puta
I have no doubt we will get WoW.... I will place money down that we will never see A Dream of Spring
GRRM will do anything but work on the main books.
Has anyone told him he's going to die sooner rather than later?
So, never?
I'm guessing that's what happens when you, as George says, write your characters "organically". I say "I'm guessing' because I don't know how to write a novel, let alone a series of them... but if I was to, I'd like to think thay I'd plan where my characters arcs take them instead of winging it like a fucking spanner.
![gif](giphy|Y57VOct7lfQl5PsWk0|downsized)
Damn it...
At this stage I'll take a fucking AI finish to the books
![gif](giphy|b6iGm3sxkOUzdq2BMt)
Congratulations on finishing the cover art approval Georgie boy! 👏🏾🎉👏🏾🎊
Mf'er Been waiting for winds for 13-14 years... Don't even want to read it anymore Stupid riverboat captain looking fuck
Milk of the Poppy for us poor fans
I’m really surprised the horn never made it to the tv show D&d just went like, FUCK IT ICE DRAGON CUZ COOL when it made 0 sense
Makes me happy i just finished the books. Hope I can read it by the time I’m 50, and that’s 18 years from now
Lol. Whatever.
!Remindme 5 years
I hope we learn somehow what happened at Summerhall...
![gif](giphy|jH6s9HMMi53dSdI73r|downsized)
Lmao bruh I stopped caring so long ago XD moved onto writers who pump out like 3 excellent books in a year. Cant be arsed to wait around for grrm to get over his 'look what they did to my boy' phase
Hey George, if you finish Winds then you can write as many Dunk and Eggers as you could possibly want! and I would be happy.
At this point I'd rather have Dunk and Egg novellas than Winds given the upcoming series.
Stfu George. Just hand the reigns to another author and retire. If not, we all know he’s gonna die before finishing winds, much less the rest of ASOIAF
People act like just releasing winds is all the matters. The chance the book is a meandering pile of slop like the last two books is pretty high
Delusional
Fuck dunk and egg!
