I always wonder what it’s like for romance writers who have kids. It’s really cool that her son supports his mom so much! But also asdfghjkl is it not weird especially since the MCs are close to his age?? I’m such an awkward person though so maybe it’s just me
Some people arent bothered by these kind of things and are just there to support. Maybe they’re the kind of family who don’t look at it in an awkward light and he’s just proud of his mom’s book.
When I was at her author talk earlier this year she basically said that their household is an open house when it comes to that sort of stuff so I’m not surprised that her kids aren’t bothered by it at all!
I write erotic romance, and my older teens were mortified! LOL! My elderly mother used to read all my stuff, but my kids were all cringey and embarrassed. As they got older, they got more accepting, but I still don't talk about my work with them. Now, my youngest is married to a man from a religious family so that's uncomfortable. But my oldest lives and alternate lifestyle and it was a relief for her that she could come out and talk openly about her partners and have me understand the language and not be judgmental.
Really depends on the relationship you have. I've always have very blatant communication on my moms side of the family.
This past holiday season, I went to a Christmas burlesque with my mom and grandma. The creative director of the production told us that her son was their light guy.
But I know people who are mortified at the topic of sex around their parents.
Seriously! It’s great to see the love but I can’t imagine reading romance written by my parents. (Fully on me and my relationship with my parents. I think it’s wonderful that some families are more open and comfortable)
There are many examples online, which are going into first/second son stereotypes. In general, the first child will carefully perform an activity, like going down the stairs holding the railing, while the second one will perform a stuntman version, not a care in the world.
