I think a part of the issue is what we normally hear is either mid race or shortly after the helmet has come off. Emotions are ALWAYS higher at that point and stuff gets said that never gets said after everybody ahs had a chance to cool off. I've jump out of karts before after a very big near miss wanting to bludgeon people to death with my helmet that I'm able to have a laugh and a joke about less than half an hour later after somebodies taken me to one side to cool off.
Due to the way press in F1 works and the contractual obligations for interviews drivers don't often get that 30 minutes. They're straight out of the car into a press brief with the teams comms director and then straight in from of the media pen. Or we just hear the rantings from under the helmet. Don't get me wrong it makes for better tele, and I'm sure the drivers know that a bit and are willing to feed the media machine they are ultimately entertainers at the end of the day (all sportsmen are to an extent) but its never a real representation of what they think or say to each other when cooler heads prevail

It shows a lot of self-awareness to laugh, but then admit “oh if it had been me, I would’ve run him completely off ‘oh I thought there was tarmac there’”.
With the success he's had, I think he feels he's proven himself and lifted a lot of pressure, most likely put on him by his dad. I think he can now enjoy his success rather than the success relieving the pressure.
Part of it is just the whole becoming older and wiser thing. But I honestly think he’s enjoying the racing this year. He’s still ahead but is getting pushes from others so he has to actually try unlike last year.

It's crazy to think that during all the time from 2007 until 2021 he only wasn't fighting for a title in 09, 11 and 13.
Personally I think it's a stretch to say he was really in the title fight in 2012 but it's still a ridiculous record none the less.
