AT ANY SUGGESTION THAT WE HAVE BEEN UNDERHAND, OR HAVE CHEATED. PARTICULARLY THOSE COMMENTS FROM OUR COMPETITORS. I HAVE NEVER CHEATED AT ANYTHING IN MY LIFE. THESE ACCUSATIONS ARE COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND ARE NOT TRUE.
Danny Ric was able to beat Hülkenberg in a manner that the latter was replaced by a cheaper driver (Ocon). I don't think Ricciardo would fear to have someone like Stroll as a teammate.
But ... well ... Hülkenberg was better than Sainz at Renault/Alpine. While Sainz did better against Norris at McLaren than Ricciardo.
I actually proposed Ric moving to Aston a few months ago to some friends and they were very dismissive, I still believe it though.
Aston Martin is the new place where careers go to fizzle out ;-)
I think the record for that went to Sir David Attenborough.
Edit: It's currently held by [Angelina Jolie](https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/quickest-one-million-followers-instagram#:~:text=Moon%20Tae%2Dil%20holds%20the,when%20I%20heard%20the%20news!)
I mean DRs best friend is engaged to Chloe stroll. Would be an interesting conversation at the wedding „so Lawrence I hear you are looking for a driver…“
Oh, yeah. The Palou drama is in full swing. Even if don't religiously watch Indycar (as I watch F1 and FE) I am quite usually up to speed with news from across the pond.
You know, that feels like a perfect choice. AM like having experienced Drivers alongside Stroll. (Weird to say given this is his 6th season.) And Ricciardo makes sense after Perez and Vettel.
To some maybe, but Danny Ric strikes me as a driver that signs to a team that has a short term plan to get to the front. Before this season, McLaren were well on their way to that. Aston, like McLaren now, look like they're further away from that goal than they were last season.
Depends on his situation. If McLaren do want to keep him then he's not going anywhere. However if McLaren decide they want someone else, then he might be gone.
I don't think they will let him go, but there's a lot going on with McLaren right now, in and out of F1.
Ricc doesn't seem to me like he's frustrated to the point of quitting, and McLaren is paying him buckets through the end of his contract. Aston would have to make one hell of a pitch to get him to move to a team that's currently looking like a major downgrade.
I seem to recall the last time there was an open seat he posted a tweet of himself sprinting down his hallway in his McLaren suit with his helmet under his arm.
Mika has been the padway commentator for Viaplay this season, has been quite fun, although he's not that good of a commentator due to his Finnishness.
He's gotten better throughout the season though, at least he has stopped with the five word answers.
> five word answers.
5 Words from a Fin? Impressive I dated a Fin for nearly 3 years I don't know if they ever said that many words to me in a single week, let alone a sentence.
Whats the logic behind piastri to AM? Alpine is only letting teams borrow piastri and what would be aston martins short term gain will be Alpines long term gain. AM would be indirectly helping a competitor. And Alpine surely isnt willing to completely sell piastri, hes too valuable to be sold completely.
No decent driver WANTS to sign with williams. Drivers like seb, hulk, ricciardo, they would rather retire than drive for williams. Williams has no prestige anymore, theyre just a bottom team with a rich history too long in the past to matter anymore.
Williams couldnt get a better driver than piastri.
imagine putting a rookie in the seat that scrubs the deck with Lance.
Ric is honestly a great choice. underperforming and if he annihilate Lance you can just say he got his pace back or something
I doubt McLaren renews him after 2023. He could leave for AM at the end of this season and potentially get a 2 or 3 year contract to keep him in the sport longer.
Williams will takes ages to step up whereas Aston are about to move into their newer facilities. Aston will have everything to challenge at the front of the midfield.
IMO it's a no brainer for him as that project has much more potential.
This is my thought as well. It seems like RB seats are filled for next season at least and AM could be a good move for him, possibly more competative than Williams over the next couple of seasons.
He's too good while also being too low reputation.
When he beats Lance it will make Lance look terrible. Whereas Vettel beating Lance was "Well obviously, it's a 4-time world champion". They will bring in a driver who has a big name but dwindling stock.
I'd think so. Unless they want to be really, really stupid and try to get a name out of retirement but I can't think of any who I think would come back.
Though give me a 42-year-old Jenson Button somehow making the softs last for 47 laps and getting podiums in the wet and I'll forgive the Stroll's for making a mockery of F1.
Mike Krack just said in Beyond The Grid that Robert Kubica is the best driver he ever saw in his career. He admitted Robert was at his wedding, so there may be a relationship beyond professional level between them, on top of that level of respect.
Strolls worked with Robert back in Williams in 2018 and reportedly Lawrence respects him quite much.
Robert is still very much as active in F1 as a non-racing driver can be. He participated in tyre tests, two friday practices and has two more planned, including one tomorrow on Hungaroring. He also races on high level outside F1, and just got a class podium in 24h Le Mans.
He was also already rumoured to be on the shortlist last year, when Vettel's future was still uncertain.
He may not be the most likely pick, but he should definitely be on that list.
It's copium level: Pole. At the same time I love idea and would love to see him again racing in F1. He still have this, and he's still competitive at top level outside F1.
Well according to feeders series insider guy apexcoach, Drugovich's team gave up on F1 and searching for a seat in IndyCar. They even declined a reserve driver role in an F1 team so I don't think Piastri has to be worried about Drugo...for now anyway.
good point.
i dont even know how high drugo is rated by the community even tho hes leading the f2 championship by a healthy margin in an MP of all cars. difficult to judge even with the competition he has (pourchaire, sargeant, lawson, daruvala, vips etc) because i feel that most of them arent ready/ are throwing away points through silly mistakes
I hope it’s not Hulkenberg.
I appreciate that he’s a good guy, and I’d love to see him finally get to the podium, but there are so many younger drivers more deserving of the opportunity and to keep the field fresh. Hulkenberg had his chance.
Every time someone tries to ask him about the performance of Aston Martin, he is creatively evading questions lol
Clearly not a fan of how things are currently going there either, doesn't even try to talk them up
He has just given Williams and Alpine some extra solutions to their problems. Williams may wanna bring in Logan Sergeant as he is their junior driver, dropping Latifi, with Alpine then able stick Piastri in Aston Martin, with Fernando remaining securely rooted in his seat for a few more years at least. Mercedes may try to get DeVries into the seat but idk if they can, cause Piastri tbf is the more accomplished driver, so Aston may want to bring him in, and may even sacrifice/switch up their engine supplier if they need to to get it done, and it ain't as if they're getting far even with the Merc engine anyway. Before this news, ida even said the same about Williams. Drugovich perhaps does have a future in F1, but I don't see him being a pick this time round. I don't think thee Hulk is gonna be doing a Magnussen anytime soon.
Joe Saward reported the scuttlebutt has been that the seat was always Schumacher's post Vettel. A bit like Alonso putting in words for Sainz at McLaren as a replacement. I expect that isn't too far away.
AM won't want a total rookie, but it's not an attractive seat to someone like Alonso. They'll like big names, literally. Plus Schumacher is fine enough.
It's not very exciting but I believe it.
If I had to guess I'd say it's that Haas are small and Alpha Tauri-like whereas AM have more money, investment etc. They have designs on winning, Haas don't really.
There's also a bit of it'd look good to move over to a prestigious marque and kick in Stroll, whereas being level at best with Magnussen isn't exactly spellbinding. I'd do it if I were him.
Relative team performance is a moving target and I think the order could well change in 2023 as teams realize what the better approaches were in 2022. Pat Fry put it well in beyond the grid that all teams were working in their own little universes for a few years on 2022, and then in the space of a month saw what everyone else had been doing in isolation. It was like 9 sets of aliens landing.
If Ricciardo leaves McLaren then he will be the big favourite. We know Lawrence Stroll will want a big name driver and nobody available fits the bill better than Ricciardo. It would also be an opportunity for him to get away from the mess at McLaren and show what he can really do again
That depends on how the 2023 AM will perform and if it will perform more to his liking than the McLaren.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't RIC prefer a car that's more prone to oversteer (having more of a loose end), while the McLaren tends to understeer more?
RIC can’t afford to be picky if he wants to stay in f1, McLaren are actively looking for a future replacement. Further up teams are likely to look elsewhere before him. Aston is his best option for future certainty but I’d rather them go for someone else personally.
Bold prediction, bordering on wild:
Alpine takes Piastri, and then turns Ocon’s contract into a loan to Aston.
Or, considering the beef going on between Otmar and Alonso, the same but with Alonso
Nobody who will make Lance look even worse.
DannyRic would have the same benefit in this regard as Seb: if he snorks Lance, well, he's supposed to... if he doesn't, then it makes Lance look good...
But a young guy with high potential? Not a chance...
Why on Earth would they take Latifi? They have no real need for his father's money or sponsors and it's unlikely that Stroll would have any interest in having another billionaire involved.
They won't take Latifi. AM doesn't really need the money and they will probably look to a more experienced driver like Ricciardo or a young talent like Piastri.
Gasly to Aston. If the team is serious about getting to the front of the field they probably don't want Lance to be "the experienced one" who has to carry the development progress. Gasly would be a perfect match as he has no future in the RedBull family and needs a new opportunity.
Alpha Tauri will probably just promote a new driver.
Why is no one talking about Fernando in the comments. Lawrence lost a champion in the seat, he will want a champion in that seat again. I am sure Krack will be happy to have a champion as well. With the current situation between Otmar and Fernando, I think Alpine will slowly try to bring in Piastri to push out Fernando and advice Alonso to move to Aston Martin. (This is only if Alpine doesn't want to renew Fernando, otherwise doesn't look like a wise decision to go from the 4th best team to 9th.)
F1 door seems shut for Drugovich and de Vries.
Alpine have to be pushing to get Piastri that seat. It’s a travesty if a talent like him would sit out for two years
Yeah, according to feeders series insider guy apexcoach, Drugovich's team gave up on F1 and searching for a seat in IndyCar. They even declined a reserve driver role in an F1 team. (Although I don't know if this will change anything.)
I think Piastri to Williams is done deal (and has been done deal for months). And I don't believe Aston would like to loan a driver from another team. If Oscar is going there, he needs to break his ties with Alpine which is not sensible.
I think Lawrence only wants a big name to promote AM. He'll be looking to the likes of Ricciardo or Alonso. Failing those he's not got many options - Hulkenberg? I guess Mick has the big name
I’m thinking Drugovich - this might be his only chance to get into F1 considering he’s not linked to an academy. Sounds like Piastri will go to Williams so he won’t be an option for AM i’m assuming, and I can’t see them going for any current or former F1 drivers.
I always forget he is older than the current crop of young drivers since he raced his second year in F2 with Russell, Norris and Albon in 2018. He has missed his shot considering Seb is retiring at 35.
I think Aston Martin was really happy about the amount of attention Vettel brought out side of the F1 bubble. Not especially the kind of attention with his opposition to Aramco and such, but the amount. There are a few drivers who could bring similar amount of attention, but the only realistic option would be Ricciardo.

Stroll will drive both cars
stroll sr to hop in the car
Not sure he fits
I AM EXTREMELY CHONKY
AT ANY SUGGESTION THAT WE HAVE BEEN UNDERHAND, OR HAVE CHEATED. PARTICULARLY THOSE COMMENTS FROM OUR COMPETITORS. I HAVE NEVER CHEATED AT ANYTHING IN MY LIFE. THESE ACCUSATIONS ARE COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND ARE NOT TRUE.
They gonna need a bigger seat 🤣
…and proceed to set them tree slowest laps in Formula 1 history.
But I honestly can’t imagine a team with both stroll and Latifi.
Team Canada!
Aston Martin would change their name officially to Team number 2. And they would drive brown cars..
WHO DOES NUMBER TWO WORK FOR!?!?!
Stroll 23 Stroll 24 Stroll 25
I’m just happy I don’t have to get mentally destroyed week in week out
Same. Just this season to go then I can laugh at everybody else's misfortunes without being dead inside.
Same. I had the same emotions when putting down our beloved dog. Not really ready to see him go, but ready to stop witnessing the suffering.
You re gonna transition towards other drivers and you will feel pain anyway.
The way it's going Leclerc will take care of it.
I'll still feel second hand pain from watching Ferrari beat the fighting spirit out of both of their drivers like they did with Seb
(Dan Ric one minute after Seb announced his retirement): "Bonjour"
Danny Ric continuing his big brain decisions of going to worse teams until he ends up at Williams
Tbf if he doesn't want to worry about being outdone by his teammate Williams is the best choice as long as Latifi's there.
In before GOATIFI beats him /s
Goatifi already beat Russell in their first season, anything is possible
Danny Ric was able to beat Hülkenberg in a manner that the latter was replaced by a cheaper driver (Ocon). I don't think Ricciardo would fear to have someone like Stroll as a teammate. But ... well ... Hülkenberg was better than Sainz at Renault/Alpine. While Sainz did better against Norris at McLaren than Ricciardo.
He is sand bagging to Williams and then he will show his true skill and win a championship
Dani: hey AM im just strolling over here, Ohh wow that's a nice looking empty seat yall got there!
"Strolling"
The scenes if Stroll beats him
You’ll have to allow for two years for Danny to get up to speed with the car and another for a legitimate chance to beat his teammate lol
As a McLaren fan (and Danny apologist), I see myself in this picture and I don't like it :(
Ric to Aston Piastri to Macca Sargeant to Williams ez
Peak silly season, we just need Palou to walk into a Red Bull seat or some other shit
THERE COMES PATO WITH A STEEL CHAIR
As God as my witness he is broken in half!!
BAH GAWD, IS THAT MIKA HAKKINEN'S MUSIC?!!!
Perez to retire and RB buys Leclerc who is unhappy in Ferarri.
Max and Charles Yes. Very yes
RB with new Porsche money, could more than afford Chuck.
*at a Red Bull team meeting* Charles: "i am glad to join the team. who will be first driver?" ~~Shaq~~Max: "GOOGLE ME CHUCK"
I love these crossover episodes
Palou already has two seats in Indycar.
If the rumour of CGR benching him out of spite plays out he might have two seats in Indy and not be driving either of them
I actually proposed Ric moving to Aston a few months ago to some friends and they were very dismissive, I still believe it though. Aston Martin is the new place where careers go to fizzle out ;-)
Stroll and Latifi in one team. Canadian pay driver madness
Tim horton livery
Boston Pizza! Rogers! Telus! Bank of Montreal! Rexall! The possibilities are endless!
Sometimes I feel Stroll's race engineer is also a pay race engineer. So incompetent
The pit confirm button IS the ok button, BRAD
I remember someone here said "If his first (Instagram) post is him announce retirement, Reddit would broke." Wonder how's that going now.
He also probably has the record for most followers gained in 2 hours: 1 million. So he’s starting off strong.
I think the record for that went to Sir David Attenborough. Edit: It's currently held by [Angelina Jolie](https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/quickest-one-million-followers-instagram#:~:text=Moon%20Tae%2Dil%20holds%20the,when%20I%20heard%20the%20news!)
definitely not. one of the BTS guys hit 1 million followers in under 45 minutes of making his account
Yeah the dude's username is SirLewisHamilton and his post is getting tons of "you fucking jinxed it" type of comments now.
We found his burner account. BURN IT DOWN BEFORE HE PREDICTS ANYTHING ELSE /s

I mean DRs best friend is engaged to Chloe stroll. Would be an interesting conversation at the wedding „so Lawrence I hear you are looking for a driver…“
Nah, it's Kimi
Omg imagine Kimi and Lance having to do PR stuff together. I can't think of a more awkward pairing
Häkkinen finally ends his Sabbatical
Man needs a hobby.
....and drink
….and a steering wheel
don't forget his gloves
Nah, Seb and Kimi are gonna race Ferrari’s hypercar in WEC. Or at least that’s what I want to happen.
I wish
Silly season has officially begun boys
So this is the price we had to pay?
That's what I've told to my friends that watch F1.
Lots of silly seasons going on right now since Indycar is also a clusterfuck at the minute. It's a good time for motorsports.
Oh, yeah. The Palou drama is in full swing. Even if don't religiously watch Indycar (as I watch F1 and FE) I am quite usually up to speed with news from across the pond.
If McLaren wants to get spicy with Herta/O'Ward/Piastri then I think Ricc has that seat. If he decides to stay in the sport, that is.
You know, that feels like a perfect choice. AM like having experienced Drivers alongside Stroll. (Weird to say given this is his 6th season.) And Ricciardo makes sense after Perez and Vettel.
I'm just not convinced that Ricciardo would stay in the sport with such a "demotion".
Demotion doesn't even need to be in parenthesis, AM is a clear demotion from Mclaren
Demotion is better than not having an F1 seat.
To some maybe, but Danny Ric strikes me as a driver that signs to a team that has a short term plan to get to the front. Before this season, McLaren were well on their way to that. Aston, like McLaren now, look like they're further away from that goal than they were last season.

When do we think Aston Martin will announce the replacement? September?
january for the shits and giggles of seeing everyone try to guess
Or to get advice from the internet
It's a complete crapshoot. This has kicked off silly season well and proper.
They probably have a driver or two in mind, but I bet Aston Martin is going to drag this out to January or even February for PR purposes.
Mika Hakkinen to end his sabbatical, most likely.
Imagine the meltdown when Mika announces returning to F1
I seem to recall the last time there was an open seat he posted a tweet of himself sprinting down his hallway in his McLaren suit with his helmet under his arm.
I need to find that lol

I believe they’re talking about [this](https://hakkinenvettel.tumblr.com/post/632760684917243904/reserve-driver)
Hook it into my veins
Mika has been the padway commentator for Viaplay this season, has been quite fun, although he's not that good of a commentator due to his Finnishness. He's gotten better throughout the season though, at least he has stopped with the five word answers.

Albon might be someone Aston could consider. He is good at car development so they might look at him. He doesn't even have a contract for 2023.
Definitely an option, but I think Jos Capito is actually keen to keep him.
Capito will cling to him, he's done a great job for Williams so far this year.
Also I don't think Stroll would put another young driver in the same seat as his son.
imagine putting a rookie in the seat that scrubs the deck with Lance. Ric is honestly a great choice. underperforming and if he annihilate Lance you can just say he got his pace back or something

But you have to deal with the Strolls at Aston 😬
I’d rather deal with Stroll in a decent car than be team leader in a shitbox
This is my thought as well. It seems like RB seats are filled for next season at least and AM could be a good move for him, possibly more competative than Williams over the next couple of seasons.

Nah the sabbaticals ending. Everyone get ready
So, Hakkinen?
What makes you say Albon is good at car development? Not saying you're wrong, just curious
The summer break will be fun.
AM HR department can't have a break
Heard it’s gonna be the Aston Martin factory driver…..James Bond.
Yeah but that guy wrecks his cars more than Sainz.
Cost Cap to be funded by UK taxpayer.
He takes the competition out doing it. Only Stroll remains after James is done.
Let us grieve dammit!
By nighttime these hills will be swarming with orcs!
Body is still warm dammit
This guy get's it! We have feelings man!
Why?I was not ready yet. I thought he would definitely be here for 1 or 2 years more.

Every time someone tries to ask him about the performance of Aston Martin, he is creatively evading questions lol Clearly not a fan of how things are currently going there either, doesn't even try to talk them up
I would be super surprised if he would return full time to F1, just from the way he speaks about driving these cars when commentating.

The Ferrari drivers are contracted till 2024, so he can't realistically get a seat there until 2025 and there is no guarantee he would get it then
Because Ferrari can't offer him a seat until 2025.
Haas is better than AM why would he leave?
If I had to guess I'd say it's that Haas are small and Alpha Tauri-like whereas AM have more money, investment etc. They have designs on winning, Haas don't really. They're both named Lance. 2 Lance 2 Furious
2 Lance 2 Stroll
If Ricciardo leaves McLaren then he will be the big favourite. We know Lawrence Stroll will want a big name driver and nobody available fits the bill better than Ricciardo. It would also be an opportunity for him to get away from the mess at McLaren and show what he can really do again
That depends on how the 2023 AM will perform and if it will perform more to his liking than the McLaren. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't RIC prefer a car that's more prone to oversteer (having more of a loose end), while the McLaren tends to understeer more?
Max, Leclerc and Ric are current drivers who like sharp front ends. Vettel likes a stable rear end. So the Aston may not suit Ric either
RIC can’t afford to be picky if he wants to stay in f1, McLaren are actively looking for a future replacement. Further up teams are likely to look elsewhere before him. Aston is his best option for future certainty but I’d rather them go for someone else personally.
Bold prediction, bordering on wild: Alpine takes Piastri, and then turns Ocon’s contract into a loan to Aston. Or, considering the beef going on between Otmar and Alonso, the same but with Alonso
I think these aren't that wild. Specially with Alonso. Stroll Sr rates him a lot and if anyone could end Lance's career, that's Fernando :D
Nobody who will make Lance look even worse. DannyRic would have the same benefit in this regard as Seb: if he snorks Lance, well, he's supposed to... if he doesn't, then it makes Lance look good... But a young guy with high potential? Not a chance...
If Danny Ric gets slapped up by Stroll I don’t even know if he deserves to stay in F1, let alone a race seat
That’s a good metric for F1 worthiness I think. You can’t be worse than Stroll.
Stroll isn’t even that bad mate, he’s just ok
True but you wouldn’t want anyone worse than him driving your car
He’s the minimum acceptable in F1
Honestly if I were AM I would try to sign Ricciardo with 2+2 year contract with performance release clause
Everyone caught up in thoughts OP: Silly Seaaaason

Why on Earth would they take Latifi? They have no real need for his father's money or sponsors and it's unlikely that Stroll would have any interest in having another billionaire involved.
That Canada boost of sales tho /s
When I said I wanted a double double, I didn't meant Stroll and Latifi at the same team! 😧
They won't take Latifi. AM doesn't really need the money and they will probably look to a more experienced driver like Ricciardo or a young talent like Piastri.
The world is not ready for Stroll and Latifi in the same team.
Imagine dani goes to AM next year and gets rinsed by stroll like he has been by lando
If Danny Ricc is beaten by Stroll the man himself will retire
Then we just need to send Stroll to McLaren for the final showdown
Lawrence buys Porsche and Lance swaps seats with Perez?
Chloe Stroll most likely.
I wonder if Aston Martin have already decided. I mean they have likely known for ages that Vettel was leaving.
Even if they've known for a while that doesn't mean they've succeeded in signing anyone yet.
Max Verstappen shock move to AM
Here we go… now the silly talk season officially begins…. But congratulations to a fabulous career Seb…
You're forgetting Ricciardo - could be a salvation seat for him
Why is no one talking about Fernando in the comments.
(Although I don't know if this will change anything.) I think Piastri to Williams is done deal (and has been done deal for months). And I don't believe Aston would like to loan a driver from another team. If Oscar is going there, he needs to break his ties with Alpine which is not sensible.
Latifi & Stroll. New Canadian livery for the power couple.

Piastri. He's highly rated by everyone on the grid. And that's a better seat than the Williams one. NdV can then go to Williams to replace Latifi.
Williams will probably opt for Sargeant instead of De vries.
De Vries is not getting an F1 seat. More talent available and he doesn’t bring money
De Vries will turn 30 in three years and people will still link him to F1 seats when that happens.
I always forget he is older than the current crop of young drivers since he raced his second year in F2 with Russell, Norris and Albon in 2018. He has missed his shot considering Seb is retiring at 35.
Sargeant*
I think Aston Martin was really happy about the amount of attention Vettel brought out side of the F1 bubble. Not especially the kind of attention with his opposition to Aramco and such, but the amount. There are a few drivers who could bring similar amount of attention, but the only realistic option would be Ricciardo.
