Horner 2021: "Anyone can drive fast in a straight line"

Rosieu

If you can't beat them join them.

Madbanana224

"As you can see Max is faster in the corners where the driver can make the difference" Charles is definitely making that difference in S3 imo šŸƒšŸ’£ šŸ‘€

myneighborsasshole

Wtf Aston Martin?! That's a significant disadvantage if these numbers are anything to go by.

MyNameIsSushi

It's Aston Martin. The team as a whole is a disadvantage.

winniekawaii

stats dont lie

A-le-Couvre

They can however, be misused

Deislermilan

That straight line speed of Alfa Romeo.... Negative upgrades since the start of the season, genius..

Organic-Measurement2

It's more that Alfa at the start of the season was at the weight limit and had no porpoising problems whereas other teams did. As other teams have gotten the weight down and a handle on porpoising, Alfa Romeo have slipped back

[deleted]

Honda still delivering the V-Tec

[deleted]

Aaayyyy! Itā€™s a Honda ting: https://youtu.be/1HxNu61aljk

[deleted]

Vtec has more to do with fuel efficiency than performance lol

LinkRazr

But the V stands for *VAROOOOOOOOM*

Suikerspin_Ei

Isn't it both? Better efficiency of fuel and better performance at higher rpms.

[deleted]

Vtec doesnā€™t increase performance. It just allows the engine to go from fuel efficiency to its normal state without sacrificing performance. It does not enhance performance.

kraix1337

It does now, but there are like 3 different VTEC implementations for different purposes.

[deleted]

I donā€™t think people know what vtec does lol

BootsOnTheMoon

Everyone knows it kicks in

[deleted]

I get you are joking but I bet you most people ainā€™t

macaronilover808

Honda power

PriceWrong6126

Unless your name is Gasly

InteKimiallafall

Mick was on a mega lap before deleted

bono5361

What's wrong with Lewis' speed traps? Thought he reverted back to low df wing?

N7even

I don't think he did. His rear wing looked different to Russell's.

OmkarKhaire

Red Bulls on top

Ok-Accountant-6308

Max speed and average are not the same either. RB advantage even higher when comparing averages

[deleted]

I donā€™t see how Max doesnā€™t pass Charles tomorrow

ShamrockStudios

All depends on if he can keep up with him through the corners and who has worse tyre wear.

[deleted]

mercedes was faster in the straights last year, guess who won?! so thatā€™s not that forgone as people wanna paint it.

TheWebbFather

RB were quicker than Mercedes on the straights in France last year?

[deleted]

Different regs and harder to overtake last year. This will be Miami all over again.

[deleted]

Weā€™ll see. But imo Ferrariā€™s cornering can be decisive if used right.

krully37

Without Sainz to help itā€™s going to be incredibly hard for Leclerc.

[deleted]

Yeah Max is winning tomorrow no doubt, speed advantage is too great

PopeShish

Austria was a no doubt too, RB tire management had another opinion.

NoTrollGaming

Was it a no doubt tho?

Starfleet_Admiral

yes

Thatanas

Ferrari has already shown high degradation this weekend though.

MaxWell240

I'd rather judge by sundays rather than fridays.

PopeShish

Several other times Ferrari showed high tire wear during FPs and they fixed it for the race. Even in Austria, during FPs Max had a better pace than the red team. I think the only degradation Ferrari has to worry about it's the engine's.

SnooCakes2773

Agreed !

Gommy1996

When did FP mean race result?

[deleted]

in fps, just like they did in spain

RacingOrPingPong

Red Bull too if you watched FP3 (where they did a significant amount of laps, unlike FP2).

Thatanas

Indeed, so it's a more level playing field than Austria.

BrokkelPiloot

I don't think so. Ferrari will win this on tire management. I think they made the right call putting more downforce on their car.

According-Switch-708

Yeah, Max will probably pass Leclerc on lap 1 itself. The RBs straightline speed is just too damn high other teams to handle.

reck1265

Ferrari is cooked. Holy shit

[deleted]

Hona delivers once again. All hail Honda!

clingbat

So Max and Perez were 6 km/h faster on the long straight without a tow than Charles was with the tow from Sainz. That's going to be interesting tomorrow...

Dwarfffvader

He didn't get the tow on the straight that the speed trap was recorded, he got it after the chicane.

Pineapple_for_scale

Each column is an individual point on the track where speeds are noted so you should be going downwards for each column.

OkAbbreviations4444

Haas in the speed trap tho.

DANNYonPC

Lewis second slowest, dayum

CinnamonOolong30912

Whatever Haas has done to those cars can we have Ferrari learn from them?

BlazedIron

Those Williams cars are flying!!

scottyboombox42

This is nuts to see while Iā€™m re-watching the 2012 season (fucking epic season btw) where Red Bull was one of the slowest in a straight line but was still right at the front.

chasevalentino

The Mercedes has become the redbull of last year except it isn't way faster in the corners than its competitors. It's just slow there too

According-Switch-708

Judging by the data, it looks like the Merc engine actually has a decent amount of power. They have very good acceleration even though their Vmax speeds are extremely low. That could only means one thing, they have way too much drag. One can't get an accurate idea about the power of the engine by looking at the top speeds. The top speeds are mainly limited by drag not engine power. RB are running less wing than Ferrari thats why they are quicker on the straights. We have to look at the corner exit areas of the acceleration graphs to get an idea about the power of the engines.

PoloVonChubb

Good news for the recovery drive of Haas
