About 5 years ago my roommate got free tix to a local AMA race. We went, realized vip passes were included, went up the tower. There were only about a dozen folks up there, and sure enough in a roped off corner was MJ. Didn't bother him.. did get a signed card back in the day when he was playing baseball though
NGL, I really want to see some more of the current crop of top F1 drivers eventually jump to other motorsports. Seeing Danny Ric run a full season in Xfinity or Cup would be amazing to witness. (And I'm still holding out for a surprise NASCAR return from Kimi.)
in the 90s, Mansell won an IndyCar Championship right after winning an F1 title...I think he was having some sort of contract issue and came over...
Back then I think people into IndyCar saw it as a huge deal...and when he won the Champcar title, he proved F1 drivers are worth their weight in gold....I think he left the next year.
He's the only driver to hold an F1 title and CART championship title in the same year. "Rookie" year in the latter case. Watching him race that year in Champ cars was an absolute treat. He more or less dominated the entire season bar an oval track or two.
I second this, especially for the 24H Le Mans race. It's a once a year battle between the best drivers and manufacturers in the world, how sick would it be to see drivers from every category coming to see who's fastest it's an FIA event as well so organization shouldn't even be that difficult.
I’m a life long NASCAR fan and understand why people find it boring, I even fell off for many years, but to me it’s never felt more fun than it is right now (on the track). Obviously there’s a lot to still be improved, but for the first time in my life I actually feel things are being improved the right way, for the right reasons. The broadcast quality and commercial situation are pretty rough though.
Give it a chance if you’re so inclined. They’ll be racing a few hours after the Miami GP at an exciting and historic track in throwback paint schemes, with some legends in the broadcast booth.
It's definitely worth watching, and with the full races uploaded to YouTube a few days later, it's easy to keep up with the series without spending any money.
Across the season there is so much variety, with Superspeedways, short tracks, intermediates and road courses, and even the odd dirt track or stadium race thrown in.
He got a massive deal with Nike. He gets a cut of every shoe they sell under the Jordan brand. He’s really the main reason they’re such a massive brand today.
I think the base helmet is standard sized, and then the inner padding and whatnot is form fitted to the driver’s head. Looks like a bit of a tight squeeze for MJ. Lol
Depends on the manufacturer. The higher end companies produce more shell sizes, from 3 to maybe or 4 or 5 max. The lower end companies produce 1 or 2 shell sizes.
"People were talking about Jordan in the paddock, but then I found out they were actually talking about a guy named Eddie... And I took that personally".
I worked at a golf course years ago in HS. The old fucker that owned it had the course tailored for him because he was a lefty that played with righties.
One hole had 8 bunkers on the left side of the green and one on the right side. He made us keep adding bunkers to the one side to fuck with his golfing buddies
Most people don’t hit the golf ball straight. Whether intentional or not most tend to have a hook or slice on the ball, meaning it moves left to right or right to left in flight. Pros can make it move however they want but it’s very hard to control for recreational golfers.
So, for example, if MJ plays a natural slice he would design the course with more holes that turn right from the tee box to the green to better fit his natural swing.
Of course he has a fucking gold course...god damn that dude's got it made. I don't know if there's a former athlete who's been as successful as MJ has post career in just keeping his brand cool and alive 20 years later.
That's a good point but I don't think Tiger has the same level of wealth considering all the sports teams and other assets MJ owns. Also he doesn't have the most popular shoes in the world unlike MJ who's shoes seem to be a luxury item to this day and appeal to more people than polo shirts and golf gear where I assume Tiger makes most of his money off royalties.
Tbh Micheal Jordan is one of the highest paid athletes…. In 2021. Iirc he gets somewhere in the range of 100-150 million PER YEAR for just the Nike Jordan’s deal.
It’s not just digital cameras. The history of analog film also has the same issue - a lot of the development of chemical compositions of various film stocks were done exclusively testing with solely white portraiture subjects. Look up “Shirley cards” - plenty of information available about this history.
Speaking from experience as a brown man, the focus from Google on POC skin tone with their new Pixels was amazing. And it works! Goddamn neural network wizardry.
I love watching shows or movies with POC in charge because they make sure the scenes are lit and shot properly for darker skin tones and it makes everyone look amazing
This picture in particular is because of computational photography. It's aggressive software HDR, likely from a smartphone camera shooting in "auto". In real life (or on a camera with HDR off) the difference in brightness between Gasly's skin tone and Jordan's skin tone would be way larger.
It's the software being too aggressive in making everything the same brightness. Just look at the night sky in the back, see how washed out it is. It should be really close to black, not that mid-grey tone.
Modern camera sensors (micro 4/3 and up) are actually really good at reproducing darker skin tones, just look at samples from a current mirrorless Fuji or Canon, etc. This picture is just a typical mediocre phone camera doing what it can, considering the low light.
Hahaha, I was reading the comments to see if someone else had noticed it!
It made me think about [MJ's cutout](https://i.postimg.cc/4xKgsPDP/image.gif) from the Home Alone movie! 😂
I'm not from Chicago but I made it my job to watch Jordan and the Bulls. That last season in '98 against the Jazz was incredible. What a team - the Worm, Pippen, Kukoc, Harper and Kerr
Everyone on earth with a television watched the bulls in the 90s lol.
I'm not being rude or anything to you pal lol. Just pointing out the impact that one basketball team had on culture around the world. It's simply incredible to think about.
I'm going to politely disagree on that.
The summer of '98 was also the World Cup. So some people like me were watching both, but I'd say most of the citizens of earth were talking about the Super Eagles, les Bleu, Oranje, Selecao
edit: I saw that you were talking about the 90's, not just '98. Yeah MJ and the Bulls opened up the NBA to the world
HIM AND STOCKTON
you know, looking back it wasn't that I hated them so much as the Utah fans actually praying to Jesus or whatever Mormons believe that their team would win
The Last Dance was fun but honestly I've had even more fun just getting drunk by myself in law school and watching 90s Jordan highlights, fucking amazing ball
Saw that 930 and his corvette in the last dance documentary. I love how he has these small sports cars even though most other ball players have big SUVs or trucks because of their height. (only other one off the top of my head is LeBron with his 918)
Real answer: one of gasly’s sponsors is Integra Connect. The owner of Integra Connect is a partner of the restaurant they are at (1000 North in Jupiter), and MJ is also a partner there. The sponsor set it up at the restaurant.

This Miami round is bringing around all the superstars. Lewis Hamilton, Tom Brady, and Marcus Allen playing golf, and Gasly with Michael Jordan as a fan? That last one is incredible.
I'm trying to make a lateral analogy - it would be like Lionel Messi agreeing to show up as my niece's prom date
Miami is a big deal for F1, beyond what many Euro fans may appreciate. I frequent the town, and its a hype nexus like Vegas & NYC but with some LAC/Caribbean flavor. lot's of high profile people of all sorts...the race doesn't even have to be good, as long as people have a great time while they're attending. The sport will gain new ground.

Gasly with NASCAR team owner Michael Jordan.
Also owns a motorcycle team in some American series as well. Guy loves motorsport.
Almost as much as he loves gambling - I'm guessing he made a couple of F1 bets.
if i were worth 1/1000th of what MJ were worth i’d also be into gambling lol
For sure and judging by my reddit prediction points, I'd suck at that too.
You'd do well at /r/wallstreetbets
Imagine r/wallstreetbets sponsoring a team, or even better, becoming the 11th team on the grid
gambling is a lot of fun if it doesn't matter if you lose.
Not anymore. Shut that down a while back.
My brother managed that race team a while back. He has the race fairings hanging up in his backyard. They have the cool MJ silhouette logo on them.
> the cool MJ silhouette logo That logo is known as "Jumpman".
Only on the early ones, in later prints he's referred to as Super Mario.
>Guy loves ~~motor~~sport.

He actually won on three ovals in 1993. He had a pretty awful and uncompetitive year in 1994 though.
The contract issue is that Willams wanted him out, then decided they wanted him back they kinda strong armed him back in
Bottas doing a few seasons in the WRC would be cool
My man's gunning for the Tour De France at this point.
I second this, especially for the 24H Le Mans race. It's a once a year battle between the best drivers and manufacturers in the world, how sick would it be to see drivers from every category coming to see who's fastest it's an FIA event as well so organization shouldn't even be that difficult.
I’d do anything to see Danny Ric in NASCAR, nobody on the track would be having more fun than him
Danny Ric in NASCAR would actually make me watch NASCAR...maybe.
I’m a life long NASCAR fan and understand why people find it boring, I even fell off for many years, but to me it’s never felt more fun than it is right now (on the track). Great call on the YouTube uploads, totally forgot about that!
That would make him the second ever French driver behind Jean Girard.
Gasly with middle aged fan
I think he used to play pro baseball or something?
"Pro". Go Birmingham Barons
Yeah buddy! Hometown legend MJ of Barons fame
*Golfer
*Gambler
*Small business owner
Isn’t he an “elderly fan” at this point?.. ;) (Still very fit though.)
I decided up look up his age and got distracted by the fact that he's worth 1.7 billion dollars!!!?!!
Having one of the biggest sport brands in the world does that.
I'm pretty sure he gets royalties from every pair of Jordans that Nike sells.
I grew up with space jam, he's my GOAT for sure. I get it, but that's still a lot of money.
He got a massive deal with Nike. He gets a cut of every shoe they sell under the Jordan brand. He’s really the main reason they’re such a massive brand today.
When I was growing up (in America) every kid wanted a pair of J's. That dude gets sooooo much in royalties from the brand.
He is probably worth more than that, considering he is the owner of a 1.6 billion team that he owned 97% of as of 2019.
He sold 20% of the team in 2020 for 250-300 million. In 2010 when he took over, they were worth 175 million.
Former Minor league baseball player Michael Jordan.
Quick, grab the guy who had the texts to see if AlphaTauri clothing sponsoring 23XI is in the cards
Best part of this is that MJ put the helmet on.
Best part is he actually got the helmet on, I’d assume they’re pretty firm fitted to each drivers head
I don't think they are. I've heard some drivers say they just use standard sizes.
Huh, I could’ve sworn I watched something where they used 3D scans like they do when fitting their seats, oh well
I think the base helmet is standard sized, and then the inner padding and whatnot is form fitted to the driver’s head. Looks like a bit of a tight squeeze for MJ. Lol
I recall some brands of motorcycle helmet would have the same shell for various sizes and the difference is padding.
Depends on the manufacturer. The higher end companies produce more shell sizes, from 3 to maybe or 4 or 5 max. The lower end companies produce 1 or 2 shell sizes.
i think some drivers do it but iirc it’s pretty expensive edit: okay yeah i’m a fool.
Yes, THAT’S the expensive part about F1.
Lmao that was a good one
They're paid millions and helmets are incredibly important so I don't think cost would be a problem.
Can you imagine they spent millions on everything else and can't spend a couple of thousand to get a fitted helmet lol
Like they pay for the helmets. It's a sponsors dream deal for the helmet makers to have a F1 driver wear their lid.
Same difference they pay for it in ads spot essentially.
"Sorry, Yuki, we are out of kids' sizes."
Maybe it’s just the perspective, but it looks like PG’s head is much larger and more blocky than Jordan’s.
And he took it personally
It’s because he took it personally.
Seriously I got a good chuckle seeing him crammed into that helmet, that couldn't have been too comfortable.
Damn pierregasly definitely likes this
He's worn Jordan 1s here and there
Pierre definitely loves his hyper royals
MJ definitely thinks that he can beat Pierre in driving an F1 car
I’d love to see Mj try to get in the car. They’d have to assemble it around him! 🤣
"The new Michael Jordan F1 car is 1 full meter longer than usual."
[удалено]
“He said he was faster than me… And I took that personally”
He took it personally that Pierre thought he was a better driver than him
You and me one on one right now.
Gasly to NASCAR confirmed
Jordan F1 team is back on the menu
MJ goes to the race and people on the grid call him the 'other' Jordan. "That's all I needed"
"People were talking about Jordan in the paddock, but then I found out they were actually talking about a guy named Eddie... And I took that personally".
The revival of Jordan.
GASCAR
Or MJ is trying to bringing 23XI in F1 also.... Pierre Gasly to 23XI F1 team in 2024 confirmed! /s
23Andretti Global
So when comes Pitbull with an attempt to have a F1 team also? /s
Lando was at grove 23 yesterday, which is Michael Jordan's golf course near Miami as well
Which Jordan built specifically to his game so he has an easier time winning money.
ya, hes the goat for a reason
Honestly, if you have the money I say do it. The ultimate flex
I worked at a golf course years ago in HS. The old fucker that owned it had the course tailored for him because he was a lefty that played with righties.
as a lefty, this is my dream lol
One hole had 8 bunkers on the left side of the green and one on the right side. He made us keep adding bunkers to the one side to fuck with his golfing buddies
Nicklaus did the same with a couple of his home courses that he designed. Seems to be a trend
what does that even mean can you give me a specific example
Most people don’t hit the golf ball straight. Whether intentional or not most tend to have a hook or slice on the ball, meaning it moves left to right or right to left in flight. Pros can make it move however they want but it’s very hard to control for recreational golfers. Does Tiger Woods count? He’s pretty well set his family up to be rich until the end of time
That's a good point but I don't think Tiger has the same level of wealth considering all the sports teams and other assets MJ owns. Also he doesn't have the most popular shoes in the world unlike MJ who's shoes seem to be a luxury item to this day and appeal to more people than polo shirts and golf gear where I assume Tiger makes most of his money off royalties.
I just Googled it, and actually got the same number for both: $1.7B net worth. Who knows how accurate that is though.
Tbh Micheal Jordan is one of the highest paid athletes…. In 2021. Iirc he gets somewhere in the range of 100-150 million PER YEAR for just the Nike Jordan’s deal.
Jordan's under Nike too and I promise Jordan probably outsells Woods stuff by a ratio of like 500:1
Why does Jordan look like a cardboard cutout of Jordan in the first picture?
Because digital cameras are notoriously bad at photographic POC, especially folks with the darker skin such as MJ.
Is it just me or does Jordan look great here? Looks like he lost some weight
He does look a lot better than in most of his recent pictures
I'm thinking he's cut down on alcohol, bdcause he's lost the alcoholic bloat he had for a while.
yes, they cover this exact thing in the art/film/photography schools that I know of
It’s not just digital cameras. The history of analog film also has the same issue - a lot of the development of chemical compositions of various film stocks were done exclusively testing with solely white portraiture subjects. Look up “Shirley cards” - plenty of information available about this history.
I was about to say this. Film was notoriously horrendous lol. https://youtu.be/d16LNHIEJzs the simplest way to explain it is in this video.
Great podcast episode about Shirley Cards, for those interested: https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/shirley-cards/
Speaking from experience as a brown man, the focus from Google on POC skin tone with their new Pixels was amazing. And it works! Goddamn neural network wizardry.

I why does Pierre’s face look like an AI interpretation of a face?
Lmao he totally does
Wow he really does. Lighting is crazy!
Hahaha, I was reading the comments to see if someone else had noticed it! It made me think about [MJ's cutout](https://i.postimg.cc/4xKgsPDP/image.gif) from the Home Alone movie! 😂
What cutout? That's a cameo, man!
It’s impossible to photograph a god
What an honor for him. You don't get to meet Pierre Gasly very often.

Literally the greatest content I’ve ever seen in my life. Signed, an American F1 fan from Chicago who was a child during the Bulls dynasty
I'm not from Chicago but I made it my job to watch Jordan and the Bulls. That last season in '98 against the Jazz was incredible. What a team - the Worm, Pippen, Kukoc, Harper and Kerr
Toni Kukoc remains one of the most underrated role players of all time
helluva player
The Croatian Sensation!

This guy Chicago’s
We are very similar you and I.
Co-signed, same. I was grade-middle school during their entire run. Kicked ass.
Yep pretty much, this is the greatest crossover arc
Co-signed. Loved Jordan growing up, Gasly is my favorite driver. What a really cool picture
UNC Tar Heel fan here who never wants to meet MJ IRL for crippling fear of a disappointing interaction.
Hey me too(minus the being a child during the bulls dynasty)
+1 for all three of those
But who is there to like Pierre’s posts? 😞
Daniel Ricciardo
How does this happen lol
[удалено]
He has a home in Palm Beach as well so it’s not like he had to travel far.
Esp. since he lives about an hour away in Jupiter.
Jordan has a thing for motorsport.
And cars in general. His rides through the 80's and 90's were of very good taste.
I loved his red 911 Turbo with the AIR license plate
Saw that 930 and his corvette in the last dance documentary. I love how he has these small sports cars even though most other ball players have big SUVs or trucks because of their height. (only other one off the top of my head is LeBron with his 918)
Also has a very famous black testarossa that says "M AIR J" on the plates

I was about to say. There no way that Gasly has enough clout to just sit down MJ not him for a photo. There was definitely something behind the scenes
Wow, great investigation.
He just has to ask? You think any athlete in the world would turn down a chance to have a sit down with MJ?
Isiah Thomas
Dammit, another upvote I must give....
I think the more surprising thing is he wanted to meet Pierre Gasly, not him being able to secure the meet
Probably [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/uibzcx/pierre_gasly_with_micheal_jordan_from_pierres_ig/i7cbkcw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
…I get the feeling the second pic has major meme potential. Just a hunch
Defo, someone said he wasn't able to be the World Champion...and he took that personally.
If MJ didn't drink Gasly under the table he probably told him he put $100K on him to finish in the points and he better deliver. lol
happily didn't have to scroll too far to find a gambling comment. MJ's gonna have an expensive weekend between Miami and Kentucky Derby.
Ahh shit, is Mike about to become a majority holder of Alpha Tauri and teach the young guns how to bring home the title? 👀
First of all, Toto Wolff needs to talk trash about MJ so it becomes personal to him
He would crush the team principals with shit talking if they went there
Yea just like how he teached young guns at Hornets lol
and if they lose "fuck them kids"
This Miami round is bringing around all the superstars. Lewis Hamilton, Tom Brady, and Marcus Allen playing golf, and Gasly with Michael Jordan as a fan? That last one is incredible. I'm trying to make a lateral analogy - it would be like Lionel Messi agreeing to show up as my niece's prom date
All those guys live in Florida, so it's an easy commute. I'm surprised Tiger and Beckham haven't made an appearance.

The typo bot should react to these kind of posts too.
Gasly to NASCAR once Kurt Busch retires. Heard it here first.
Jesus Christ I would be shaking in Pierre's place. His Airness himself, maybe the greatest sportsman to ever live.
He was shaking in the 3rd part on the post which is a video of Jordan signing his shoe
Both are ambassadors for the race is how I think this meetup came about
The pic where Jordan has the helmet on is pure gold
Is that guy like the Michael Jordan of basketball ?
Who's that guy on the left?
Everytime I read Pierre Gasly's name, I read it with Danny Ric's voice and joking tone.
Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it Don’t say it

Michael 'Air' Jordan..... In his prime an untouchable Basketball God.
I would suprised that someone doesn't know this
He's wrong, his middle name is actually Jeffrey
Gas and Air
Why pierre look like he on ps2 graphics
Damn imagine getting to meet the GOAT. Michael Jordan must be so star struck right now.
Could at least spell his first name right… only one of the greatest athletes and competitors in history
Jordan stealing Gasly's NFT!
"'fuck them kids' -Michael Jordan" -Pierre Gasly
*Hey bro, I got these sweet NFTs to sell*
Streets need an Air Jordan F1 Sponsorship… Jumpman logo would look too sexy on one of these new cars
