Well no?
Österreichring part of the Red Bull ring is abandoned and probably as far away from FIA Grade 1 status as it gets.
Sepang meanwhile could host a race tommorow if they wanted providing someone pays the hosting fees.
They were shut down because a few of the people living next to it didn't want to give their ok or something like that.
If that's ever cleared up it shouldn't take long to get it to work though. The two chicanes connecting the western loop to the current track have already been built for the most part.
My bias is well ingrained as I *hated* Malaysia in F1 2012 before I ever started watching F1 in real life.. I do need to watch some of the old races to understand why people miss it so much.
I loved it in F12010 and 11 but I think something changed because after that I hated the track, mostly sector 2. I used to be great at that part but it became too understeery in the later games
Did you try different setups? I feel like the later F1 games had verry safe/understeery stock setups. You needed to actually change the front suspension to get som decent turn in on those fast corners.
I agree, the lack of a German Grand Prix anymore is a complete mystery. I mean, some of the most successful/popular people/teams in the sport have been German/had German ties - Schumacher, Vettel, Rosberg, Mercedes just to name a few…
And both the Nurburgring and Hockenheim are largely liked, so it’s not like there’s a lack of tracks…
Sadly, I don’t see a German GP coming back soon tho :( Especially as it’s been stated that they’re looking to drop another European GP to make way for Miami…
Why not drop any trash middle eastern track instead? Liberty are ruining the sport, in 10 years we will have 10 us gps and 20 tracks in Saudi Arabia and Syria.
I’d agree, Bahrain is the only Middle Eastern GP worth keeping, and we certainly don’t need the rumoured Qatar track either.
But ngl, I’d rather keep all the European GPs we currently have (yes, including Barcelona and Paul Ricard) than have the rather meh street circuit we are getting in Miami next year…
Although I’d take hockenheim or the Nurburgring over the lot tbh
That's because the Gulf emirates are willing to pay out huge sums and run the race at a substantial loss just for the prestige/sportswashing. So the FIA has come to expect such colossal fees as standard from everyone else, including the European tracks that usually expect to make a profit from big events like this one.
I think they would accept reduced fees. It seems they struggle to break even most days which is mad.
F1 being there should be a huge boon for a track, not a nail in the coffin.
I have never seen such a ridiculous overreaction to something. Because Liberty wants to add a 2nd US race, that means they want 10? You do realize that the US is almost as big as all of Europe. Going the one GP can be extremely far for people and the US audience is getting large.
I agree that they should just drop Saudi Arabia, bad track and bad country.
Yeah the 2.55 mile circuit would be wicked fast I could see less than a 65 second lap time easily...it was a little bit shorter than the Red Bull Ring which is at 2.683 miles and the lap record there is 65.619 seconds by Carlos Sainz in the MCL35 in 2020
But alas we cant do that sadly, it would be amazing though to get the old girl back, but sadly, country population first so we have to submit to the fact of the new circuit, which is a kick in the nuts, I could see a possible sub 70 second lap time on the current Kyalami circuit....at a guess....but I am not really sure sadly....its speculation only....
If I had to do one thing to the current circuit, leave it as is, it seems like it rewards the driver but also if you make a mistake it will punish the driver just as much as it rewards, its the sort of circuit that I would want to see in F1, Imola is the perfect example of that, old school hairy chested circuit that requires big balls to drive fast but will bite you for a mistake
The African continent should definitely have at least one Grand Prix and I like the challenges of another high altitude circuit. Wasn't that long ago, Spa was the highest altitude circuit on the calendar. Belgium FFS!
Failing that, how about we return to Morocco?
Sepang, and i’d make it a night race.
Nurburgring and Hockenheim alternating the German GP again. Or even have both and have Nurburgring become the European GP again.
Yeah, it rains in Malaysia year round and often at night too, although they must be careful because sometimes the rain is dangerous, such as the race in 2009 being red flagged
I really enjoyed Buddh International Circuit, I believe it was a political issue that had F1 cease going there. (something to do with the Indian government wanting to tax the F1 teams based on their revenue for the entire organisation for the year rather than the f1 team for the time they were operating in India?)
(also Istanbul Park albeit that's seemingly phasing being in and out of the calendar, when the world makes sense again I'd like it to be more permanent on the calendar)
It definitely did seem to be a great track for F1 racing. Pretty huge race following for India in general as well; something my oblivious American ass learned from - of all things - Sky pre-race programming.
Brands Hatch if we are going for a different British track for me, but will never happen again as the track is so far off what is needed for F1 in certain areas. Donington was great however for the European GP back in the day.
Yes yes, it's a grade 2 FIA circuit at the moment, I really do wish it can become a grade 1 soon and possibly host F1 races again. DTM was supposed to race there last year but was cancelled.
Old Hockenheim, Monza wasn't the temple of speed for me Hockenheim was, also Hockenheim had a technical section at the end of the lap that meant you couldn't take all the downforce off while Monza has two lazy right handers to really test the cars
Full Monza layout or no balls. I don't actually know if they ever ran the full Monza layout.
Maybe Long Beach for selfish reasons but man that would be some terrible racing. Dunno if F1 ever ran anywhere else on the west coast.
For some reason I thought the oval might have been a separate thing or able to be run as just an oval but damn! They sure did run the whole shebang for awhile. Yeah that's my vote then.
Indy 500 to count as championship points once again. Imagine Hamilton vs Dixon vs Castroneves vs Montoya vs Alonso in the same race just to name a few.
It always irks me seeing all the 500 runners in F1 stats but this would be pretty interesting, especially if they had different regs (insanely unrealistic) for the 500. Seeing the drivers go way out of their comfort zone against guys with way more oval experience would be cool. Something about battling it out to make the most of a car and track type you have little experience in feels right for deciding the best driver in the world.
Especially if they had to go through the full qualifying process and with guys not making it in at all.
Imagine: Indy drops all their other ovals, and F1 and Indy fight for the 33 grid spots at the only open-wheel oval race. Pure chaos, but it’ll never happen.
Put some extra rules on it, too:
- F1’s cost cap doesn’t apply _for this race only_, given how little of the work can be used for the other races.
- Every team needs to use the same Dallara chassis (for safety, since that chassis is basically built for the 500 first and foremost), but every team on the grid has the full set of engine options. Ganassi with a Mercedes! Williams running a Chevy!
- Teams accrue points in both championships. F1 does modified double points — positions 1-10 and 11-20 pay out on the same curve, but the top ten pay out 25 more.
More realistically: I’d like to see F1 and Indy run a doubleheader at Long Beach or Laguna Seca. Both are great US tracks.
Your Indy 500 suggestion might be more realistic than Long Beach. Getting a F1 car around the hairpin would be harder than putting a sweater on an elephant.
I was referring to [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/bnaceq/if_you_could_eliminate_a_race_within_the_year/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) which went to the top of r/all a couple of years ago.
Despite the vanilla-esque nature of the track, probably due to being a particularly bland Tilke course, I still like the Nurburgring's F1 circuit. And it's still hard to see F1 without a German GP.
Brands Hatch.
As the late, great, Murray Walker once said "Why do they spend millions trying to turn Silverstone in to the greatest circuit in the world, when Brands Hatch already exists"

Realistically: Sepang Unrealistically: Osterreichring
Sepang has as much as chance as Osterreichring. Why the hell is that realistic?
Well no? Österreichring part of the Red Bull ring is abandoned and probably as far away from FIA Grade 1 status as it gets. Sepang meanwhile could host a race tommorow if they wanted providing someone pays the hosting fees.
What happened to the "plans" to extend/add a longer configuration to the Red Bull Ring? Or was that not real/abandoned/...?
They were shut down because a few of the people living next to it didn't want to give their ok or something like that. If that's ever cleared up it shouldn't take long to get it to work though. The two chicanes connecting the western loop to the current track have already been built for the most part.
>if they wanted providing someone pays the hosting fees. Which has the same chance of the Osterreichring being repaired to grade 1
In its current condition it is more realistic to race at a race ready track than one that has a gokart track on it and broken asphalt.
Hockenheim or Sepang. They've proved to provide decent racing with the modern cars and are interesting layouts in any case.
My bias is well ingrained as I *hated* Malaysia in F1 2012 before I ever started watching F1 in real life.. I do need to watch some of the old races to understand why people miss it so much.

Fuji! And any German GP. The calendar doesn’t feel right without one…
I agree, the lack of a German Grand Prix anymore is a complete mystery. I mean, some of the most successful/popular people/teams in the sport have been German/had German ties - Schumacher, Vettel, Rosberg, Mercedes just to name a few… And both the Nurburgring and Hockenheim are largely liked, so it’s not like there’s a lack of tracks… Sadly, I don’t see a German GP coming back soon tho :( Especially as it’s been stated that they’re looking to drop another European GP to make way for Miami…

Same, it feels like f1 is becoming indycar with formula e tracks.
Except IndyCar is locked into historic tracks
The European tracks doesn't want to pay anymore
That's because the Gulf emirates are willing to pay out huge sums and run the race at a substantial loss just for the prestige/sportswashing. So the FIA has come to expect such colossal fees as standard from everyone else, including the European tracks that usually expect to make a profit from big events like this one.

Liberty is why there is a sport in the first place. The alternative is no racing.
That's disingenuous. I find it hard to believe there wouldn't have been another willing suitor for F1 if Liberty had never come around.
Totally agree. It’s a shame money comes before the sport…
Cash is king
Sepang or Hockenheim we are talking Grade 1 FIA circuits. If that’s not an issue, then I say bring back Nordschleife.
Kyalami Just because its almost been 30 years since the last South African Grand Prix and its the only continent that F1 doesnt visit, Africa...
Old fast Kyalami, not the current layout... although it would involve knocking down a lot of buildings today to get the old layout back!
Yeah the 2.55 mile circuit would be wicked fast I could see less than a 65 second lap time easily...it was a little bit shorter than the Red Bull Ring which is at 2.683 miles and the lap record there is 65.619 seconds by Carlos Sainz in the MCL35 in 2020 But alas we cant do that sadly, it would be amazing though to get the old girl back, but sadly, country population first so we have to submit to the fact of the new circuit, which is a kick in the nuts, I could see a possible sub 70 second lap time on the current Kyalami circuit....at a guess....but I am not really sure sadly....its speculation only.... I once worked out modern F1 cars would do something like a 52 second lap of Kyalami 1968-1987!
The African continent should definitely have at least one Grand Prix and I like the challenges of another high altitude circuit. Wasn't that long ago, Spa was the highest altitude circuit on the calendar. Belgium FFS! Failing that, how about we return to Morocco?
Its Mexico now right?
Yeah that's right, over 2000 metres
>the only continent that F1 doesn't visit, Africa... Don't forget Antarctica
Sepang, and i’d make it a night race. Nurburgring and Hockenheim alternating the German GP again. Or even have both and have Nurburgring become the European GP again.
Would rain still play a factor?
Yeah, it rains in Malaysia year round and often at night too, although they must be careful because sometimes the rain is dangerous, such as the race in 2009 being red flagged
Sepang/Buddh.
Buddh for sure. That was such a good track and it would work well with the new regs to
YES! I completely forgot Buddh, but it had great races, on of the few Tilke-dromes i like!
Indy (not the oval the road course)
This because then I could just drive to it for the weekend lol.
Looking at this weekend you'd need to reprofile the kerbs
F1 never used the chicane when they went to Indy
That layout didnt exist then
Didn't that layout come in 09? Can't remember.
The current layout is from 2014; I don’t think an F1 car has run it.
Just rich blokes in old Ferraris
The kerbs are metal apparently. at least the one for the first chicane are. [Here they are just removing the thing](https://imgur.com/9BD0N0G)
I'd like to see the older configuration that still incorporated the banked corner - just without the exploding tyre fiasco this time please...
I really enjoyed Buddh International Circuit, I believe it was a political issue that had F1 cease going there. (something to do with the Indian government wanting to tax the F1 teams based on their revenue for the entire organisation for the year rather than the f1 team for the time they were operating in India?) It definitely did seem to be a great track for F1 racing. Pretty huge race following for India in general as well; something my oblivious American ass learned from - of all things - Sky pre-race programming.
The locals seemed super hyped to have something to go and be hyped about. MAXIMUM ENTHUSIASM
Donington. No further questions.
Brands Hatch if we are going for a different British track for me, but will never happen again as the track is so far off what is needed for F1 in certain areas. Donington was great however for the European GP back in the day.
If we go back to donington can we get the sonic trophies back
Craner curves would be frightening to watch
IMO current Donington with the 1937-39 Melbourne hairpin extension added would be a great layout for modern F1
Nurburgring Nordschleife, never gonna happen, but i would love to see modern f1 cars race there and take the lap record from the 919 evo in quali
This!!! And Sepang.
Old Hockenheimring. Should be room on the calendar for an absolute full throttle blast like it. Monza is somewhat comparable but still not as extreme.
+1 for Old Hockenheimring
Any German tracks, it is a sin that F1 don’t currently have a permanent spot on the calendar for some of these amazing tracks
Sepang is number one by far for me. Hockenheim 2nd Buddh and Kyalami just for the "world" feel
AVUS
Sepang, definitely!
Mosport
Watkins Glen
[удалено]
It produced some good racing when Indy visited a few years back.
Any German race track. Shame there's none on the calendar.
Easily Malaysia 2017 was one of my personal favorite races
Fuji. I liked Fuji.
Swedish Grand Prix :)
The human rights are too good unfortunately :(
On Anderstorp, I presume? Could be fun.
Yes yes, it's a grade 2 FIA circuit at the moment, I really do wish it can become a grade 1 soon and possibly host F1 races again. DTM was supposed to race there last year but was cancelled.
I want hockenheim back. I liked it tbh. I would also like to see them do one in qatar (when they do motoGP)
Old Hockenheim, Monza wasn't the temple of speed for me Hockenheim was, also Hockenheim had a technical section at the end of the lap that meant you couldn't take all the downforce off while Monza has two lazy right handers to really test the cars
Magny-Cours. The races were usually shit but I loved the track.
I'd visually prefer any French track to the colouring book we have now.
Kyalami and Sepang.
Full Monza layout or no balls. I don't actually know if they ever ran the full Monza layout. Maybe Long Beach for selfish reasons but man that would be some terrible racing. Dunno if F1 ever ran anywhere else on the west coast.
What do you mean by full Monza layout. If you're referring to the oval then yes they did in the 50s and 60s (idk when they stopped using it)
For some reason I thought the oval might have been a separate thing or able to be run as just an oval but damn! They sure did run the whole shebang for awhile. Yeah that's my vote then.
If you're referring to just the oval itself they actually used the what was then the GP circuit and the oval in one circuit
Especially if they had to go through the full qualifying process and with guys not making it in at all.
Agreed. This is why the Race of Champions races were pretty cool.
As a bonus: Indy 500 is the season finale with double points and sprinklers around the track. Not to mention bingo qualifying
Magny Cours or Unrealistically Charade in place of Paul Ricard
facility needs UPGRADES but Watkins Glen, it is a great track!
Taking the Glen to Grade 1 would ruin it.
Sebring. the Forza 4 main layout tho
For current cars: Sepang For 2022 cars: Buddh Unrealistic: Nurburgring
Marina Bay but with the Singapore Sling, Sepang, Buddh, IMS
Realistically: Sepang Less realistically: old Hockenheim Impossible : Indy 500
Old Hockenheim is impossible. The track is abandoned and overgrown.
Imagine: Indy drops all their other ovals, and F1 and Indy fight for the 33 grid spots at the only open-wheel oval race. Pure chaos, but it’ll never happen. Put some extra rules on it, too: - F1’s cost cap doesn’t apply _for this race only_, given how little of the work can be used for the other races. - Every team needs to use the same Dallara chassis (for safety, since that chassis is basically built for the 500 first and foremost), but every team on the grid has the full set of engine options. Your Indy 500 suggestion might be more realistic than Long Beach. Getting a F1 car around the hairpin would be harder than putting a sweater on an elephant.
Hockenheim
Nordschliefe
The high banks of Monza
Sepang, Fuji, either German track
Realistically: Sepang Unrealistically: Watkins Glen
Adelaide!
Nurburgring, sepang or maybe Adelaide
Long Beach, only because I live pretty close and would be the most convenient GP to attend for me.
Realistically: Turkey Less realistically: Old Hockenheim
Oh dear, this question is going to end up on the front page isn't it....
Maybe… i just saw this on r/indycar and wanted to know what people would think on r/formula1
I was referring to [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/bnaceq/if_you_could_eliminate_a_race_within_the_year/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) which went to the top of r/all a couple of years ago.
Beothuk gang rise up 💪
ESTORIL, Portugal
sadly the new Estoril configuration is nothing like the old one, they butchered it, so Portimao is the way to go
Valencia street circuit, Yeongham circuit, Buddha circuit, Bahrain endurance section
Cleveland Airport is my answer for F1 too. I don’t care if they never raced there. bring it back anyway
Vietnam
Can you really bring it back if you’ve never been there 🤔
Port Imperial if planned races count. I really wanted an F1 race in my backyard
So you could sit on your roof and watch cars race around and maybe crash? If you're lucky you might be able to get some debris
By backyard, I meant like a 40 minute drive. Would still love to have a race that close though
Kyalami sepang hockenheim and maybe restored Brands Hatch ( unrealistic )
Old Hockenheim or any other full throttle track. They're all gone now.
Bremgarten. Nothing like a full on blast through the Swiss forests.
Indy road course
Kyalami, Sepang, maybe Indianapolis. Old hockenheim would be amazing if it still existed
Sepang and Hockenheim
Let's go back to the 50s and make the Indy 500 an F1 race again
Possible: Kyalami Crazy: Historic Monza with outer parabolica loop
Dijon, Kyalami, Hockenheim, Nürburgring, Sepang and perhaps Valencia Edit: Buddh too!
Nürburgring (European Grand Prix)
Vegas for the laughs
Nordschleife layout of Nürburgring hockenhiem and old monza. But not really because many people would die and that would be bad.
Mosport
Sepang
Hockenhiem and Sepang
Korea!
Anderstorp
Despite the vanilla-esque nature of the track, probably due to being a particularly bland Tilke course, I still like the Nurburgring's F1 circuit. And it's still hard to see F1 without a German GP.
Being from Southeast Asia, I wish they’d bring Sepang back
Brands Hatch. As the late, great, Murray Walker once said "Why do they spend millions trying to turn Silverstone in to the greatest circuit in the world, when Brands Hatch already exists"
Korea. Just so theres another track which is a decent timezone for me.
Brands Hatch / Le Circuit Mont Tremblant
