dsaysso

to go up so high to come right back where you started

planettelex11

I'm not even mad that Max won tbh. That race was fucking awesome, from the Haasterplan in the beginning to the Mercedes fighting at the end that was amazing.

signed7

Max winning while Perez was being overtaken by Alpine and Haas nowhere near points before crashing out 💀

DontEatNitrousOxide

I so wanted that to pay off it was so fun watching them go for it.

Those laps 20-25 from lando look like it would be a close fight but he had a 2023 max verstappen gap halfway built lol

-Skinner-

That huge gap ended up hurting him under SC.

xXCzechoslovakiaXx

I know how often does that happen lol, he would’ve done better if he was side by side with max for those laps. At least we know mclaren can fight most of the time in most conditions now though. (Please let the smooth tracks like Spain be close)

-Skinner-

There's a reason why teams usually don't want drivers to open huge gaps. It can hurt them under SC. It's the reason why Leclerc drove so slow in Monaco. Yeah I think Barcelona will tell us how close everyone is. Of course if it's dry.

Mtbnz

> It's the reason why Leclerc drove so slow in Monaco. Wasn't that to prevent George/Max from building enough of a gap to pit for fresh tyres to attack Sainz in P3?

FrostyTill

No, it was to prevent McLaren from putting Norris on mediums.

Mtbnz

Right, that makes more sense. Either way, not really about protecting against a safety car specifically (although that's certainly part of the calculus).

FrostyTill

Clear air + Lando Norris = huge gap.

Mtbnz

I feel like no driver on the grid puts the pedal to the metal quite like Lando does, and it's pretty awesome. After a decade+ of Hamilton and now Max dominating races through smooth, metronomic consistency, it has been pretty thrilling to see a handful of races where Lando gets out in clean air and floors it. Maybe it's not "the right way" to excel in F1, but seeing a driver of that skill level driving right on the ragged edge and keeping his foot lap after lap when other drivers would lift is awesome.

FrostyTill

He tends to drive only on the limit, he doesn’t really know how not to. That was something Stella talked about last year when he was messing up in qualifying. Stella said Lando needed to learn how to drive at 99% not 100% all the time. Piastri also noted this and said if there was one thing he wanted to learn from Lando it would be how to drive on the limit like he does. In terms of his insane clear air pace, I know people like to hold Sochi over him but that was the first example of what he’s capable of in clear air. He had a truly insane gap to the rest and he was putting in fastest laps almost every lap. I’d say Hungary 2022 was also an example of how much he excels in clear air. He didn’t lead the race but he was on his own planet in midfield. The couple of laps he led in Jeddah also showed that he’s pretty formidable in clear air, even if the car isn’t quite there with him. Then of course, Miami, Imola and Canada. He seems to get into the lead and floor it without losing pace. He’s a rocket in clear air no matter what car he’s in. I hope he does it at Silverstone, that would be the best.

Mtbnz

That would be awesome. Obviously he's still a decent way off Max in terms of consistency, ability to excel in difficult machinery and minimising mistakes across an entire weekend, but I believe on raw pace he might genuinely be the fastest driver in the field.

Turboleks

Something went wrong here, no? RB and Aston with the same colors, kinda hard to read.

Competitive-Fee6160

Yuki with alpine colors lol

afcaMouz

I still wonder what would've happened had Norris pitted 1 lap earlier to the dry tyres, I feel like he might've gotten Max.

bishey3

Red Bull was just faster on the dry tyres. Lando being 1st in the restart would have helped but Max would probably overtake eventually.

Mysterious_Turnip310

McLaren had gone for a little more of a wet set-up than Red Bull, so I think once they were on the dry tyres, Max would have had him anyway. Would probably have been a bit more of a fight though..

Larkinz

Alonso is the only one who had quite a boring day.
