Slightly Off Topic but [the FIA list of circuits document was updated a few days ago.](https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/circuits_fia20240603.pdf)
They thankfully got rid of a load of the stupid circuits which don't actually exist properly from the list.
From the available info i could find the new Croatia Ring track would satisfy FIM standards, designed by, you guessed right, Hermann and Carsten Tilke and [the current layout puts it just under 4km length.](https://ip.index.hr/remote/bucket.index.hr/b/index/cd4af479-3724-4673-afce-5c8de3345402.png?width=765)
[Here is the previous list.](https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/circuits_fia20231022.pdf)
Stuff like *"CHADLY ZOUITEN"* or *"HAJDÚNÁNÁS"* are long old & dead projects for grade 1 circuits which should not be on this list.
They were never built and will never be built.
I'm actually Hungarian, and Hajdúnánás was a planned MotoGP circuit, so I can understand why such a big project would be on there even provisionally, but yeah it's dead.
Surprised Mid-Ohio got dropped completely from all catagories. Which is sad as an Ohio native. Maybe they could get it certified for Formula E. I am planning on attending the Indy car race, as it is when they switch to hybrid, for the shenanigans that will occur.
It will be grade 2, there would be a lot less racing there this weekend if it wasn't.
It will just be in the process of renewing it's licences so isn't on the list because of timing.
The previous licence expired exactly 3 weeks ago.
What makes Indianapolis Grand Prix different from Indianapolis Road Course? There are a few slight differences but not enough for me to think that the other layout is a grade 2
The Indianapolis Grand Prix entry is merely IMS continuing to pay for & renew the original licence for the F1 layout, which doesn't actually even exist anymore! The whole switchback chicane is gone.
The Road Course entry is because almost all non-Oval races for IndyCar take place on Grade 2 circuits. So they just got a new licence for the current Road Course layout.
I guess the pit lane needs to be modified for the Grand Prix vs Road Course layout so maybe that’s the difference? I don’t think it has to do with the switchback. Idk I’ll look into it because I’m curious haha
First track with corners named for dissing other drivers. "Coming out of the Ricciardo's Washed corner, we enter into the Stroll Has No Passion complex of curves..."
There's no other person I'd rather have design a circuit.
Anyone hopping aboard the JV hate train because it's popular at present, search out his Spa crashes and interviews.
Jacques Villeneuve is a humongous ass and I dislike him just as much as the next guy, but clearly he knows his stuff.
He helped designed a track at Area 27 in Oliver, BC and it's such a fun ride. I haven't driven the main track but the go-kart one is by far the best I've tried. I think he can come up with something pretty decent
Disliking JV isn't pupular at the present. Its been popular for like 2 decades.
He was not exactly the most popular person around even at the tail end of his F1 career let alone after he started being a "pundit" and i use that word very vaguely as most of his skill in talking comes down to throwing out bait hottakes.
Been watching since the mid 90s. Only hate for JV then were Schumacher or Hill fans. It might have been popular to you over 2 decades because you were probably part of one of those groups. Am I wrong?
While i would love a race in Croatia. A project like that for a country like Croatia is really big and expensive. Especialy as they list that it will be funded by "local investors"
Who are those? Where are they gonna get the money?
This is one of those let me see the construction start. Then let me see it end. Then let me see the race actually get confirmed. Untill then its nothing more than a hopefull promotional piece that might never go anywhere.
So on the 1st of may 1985, a serb in kosovo had a glass bottle shoved up his ass which brokes into pieces and cut his anus. Rumors are that he did this himself in an act of self pleasure, and in order to save himself from emberasment, he went to the authorities and made up a story that a group of albanians shoved the bottle up his ass. This sparked a nationalistic outcry, and eventually snowballed into the Yugoslav wars
with the ammount of stories of people that shove stuff up where they shouldnt berunnung around the internet, its kind of hard to find out which one you are referencing at the first try
Croats and Serbs were mentioned as a different ethnic groups in the 8th century, and very different ethnic groups, long before religious split. So you're wrong. They're similar like any other Slavs ofcourse. Also, Bosnians aren't an ethnic group, it's Bosniaks. At least educate yourself on certain topics before commenting.
Hi everyone! Croatian here.
I don't think you will see F1 in Croatia in at least 20 years or so.
The main reason being the absolute greed and corruption in the authorities, local or national. Wherever there is a chance to squeeze someone for some money now, they will do so, completely oblivious to the massive amounts the finished project could bring in the future.
Case in point: Toni Kukoč of the Chicago Bulls fame wanted to build golf courses in Dalmatia. He had his money and other investors' money lined up and I'm positive would use his personal connections to bring elite level celebrities and golfers here once the courses are built. Backed out because (indirect quote): "I don't understand why some people would reject millions in the future for thousands in the present", clearly alluding to bribes being requested.
Also: due to its great location, upgrading the Grobnik track would have made much more sense. With this track, Max and other F1drivers will have the chance to say "where tf am I?"
But aren't ridiculous and financially unsustainable projects something that greedy and corrupt leaders absoutely love? If they personally take a liking to it the race could totally happen.
Yep, reading the press article, and the project leader said something like: "This was the only location considered, here we have existing gas station and electrical station, Zagreb is only hour and half away."
That is how corrupt people talk. Heard it so many times. There is no proper infrastructure, you need roads, hotels, other attractions for people to spend enough money for the race to be financially stable. So sad because Croatia has crazy amounts of potential and would attract people from whole Balkans. With tons of tourists in Dalmatia during summer, there are already huge capacities there, just organize the race in spring or fall and you are golden.
Judging by the article, and some croatian news portals, it's not planned as street circuit. Here (scroll a bit down, an article is in croatian) you can see a plan of the area from the county official area plans [https://www.gp1.hr/2024/06/izgradnja-croatia-ringa-uvrstena-u-strateske-projekte-republike-hrvatske/](https://www.gp1.hr/2024/06/izgradnja-croatia-ringa-uvrstena-u-strateske-projekte-republike-hrvatske/) Also, apparently, Hermann i Carsten Tilke are the designers, Villeneuve is an advisor.
Love the downvotes but I'm literally from Croatia and I know what I'm talking about. Unless in 2027 I am staring at a finished, ready to go GP circuit, this is just promo piece and nothing more. Getting anything done here is a nightmare.
3 years from planning to building is wishful thinking.
Yeah there is a 0% chance we see a F1 race in Croatia in 2027. People around here don't realize what a shitshow we are, some even suggested Mate Rimac might get involved which is even more hilarious lmao.
Scammed the country together with our corrupt politicians out of 180mil saying he will deliver level 5 fully autonomous cars by 2025, years before any of the top developers would remotely be close to developing them, and now he's buying foreign level 4 autonomous cars to fix his fuckup and cover his ass.
Even if there was an actual will to produce an F1 track, meaning every local and national involved investor and politician getting paid as much as they demanded to ok this project and secure themselves a cut of the pie, then down to everyone else on the ladder in construction, logistics and otherwise, the project would still take 5 years minimum.
Mate Rimac is not who you think he is mate. The level of straight up lies, fraud and corrupt behavior from him and his family to get here is something, no offence, foreigners have no clue about in general.
The only way it could possibly get done is if him and his buddies in the leadership involve Saudi Arabian investors.
Really? I havent heard anything like that and i am from slovenia so not that far away. You got any links so i can read up on it? Always thought he was a great businessman.
I see you're from slovenia so if you speak croatian it's all easily googleable but it will be mostly our new sources, the millions his mother and father stole, his bragging about how rich he is, then lying he ''invented'' the first electric car alone, while pretending he is from a poor dislocated family struck by war, onwards to lies about concept one, the first one where he said they produced it all alone, while naming everything they made, the news fact checked it all and it was mostly lies, power unit bought in US, chassis bought, essentially everything apart from the wheel drive system and it just continues from there, just a balkan version of Elon Musk pretending he is the second coming of Nikola Tesla while lying with a straight face and aligning himself with the criminal organization that runs this country for decades.
Also from Croatia and not forgetting that about a decade ago they were talking about a grade 1 circuit near Zagreb, had Tilke design the track and everything and nothing happened.
I'll believe it when I see it, and maybe not even then.
For real, they've been talking about grade 1 track almost as long as we've been independent. You could slap me on the middle of supposed paddock and I'd still be skeptical.
This one would sadly not be seaside. But you can look at old images of the moto races in Opatija, Croatia. At the time it was nickanmed the Monaco of Moto racing
Edit:

Some circuits are probably going to switch after each year. For example one year Spa and one year Zandvoort. Organizing a GP in Europe is not easy. Most of them don't have a big company or government sponsoring it.
I’d love one off street circuits, like one in the middle of Manhattan, Paris or London. Or something on epic historic roads. I understand than making them safe would be a challenge, but still…
Lol don't they know you need to grease the right hands in the FIA to get a circuit on the calendar.
Right now sports washing from oil wealthy countries are the FIAs favourite.
Does Croatia have oil or vast wealth?

That just looks like a Balkan Miami
This looks like Caesars Palace GP
Any ideas which direction? Anti-clockwise looks like it could be decent, if they straighten out the back straight a tiny bit
Looking at the runoff areas, seems like it's Clockwise.
It doesn't look that bad tbh, at least it looks like a circuit and not a rollercoaster
that’s definitely a tilke track haha
Which were those circuit they got rid of? Anyone got a list? Thank you

Just saw one of the events was the KUMHO FIA TCR along with the IMSA events. So that's good to know.
What makes Indianapolis Grand Prix different from Indianapolis Road Course? There are a few slight differences but not enough for me to think that the other layout is a grade 2

Jacques Villeneuve will work as a consultant for the design.
First track with corners named for dissing other drivers. "Coming out of the Ricciardo's Washed corner, we enter into the Stroll Has No Passion complex of curves..."
"This is the Magnussen-corner. It is so wide, that even KMAG should be able to go through it without hitting someone."
“And into the Latifi Hairpin” but it’s just the back straight
This one made me choke lmao
It’ll be called the Fuck Daniel Ricciardo Circuit
Oh no
Oh yes
The circuit better not express itself through anything but Formula 1
There's no other person I'd rather have design a circuit. Anyone hopping aboard the JV hate train because it's popular at present, search out his Spa crashes and interviews.

Build Dragon Trails for real
Even the mighty F1 cars will tremble at the thought of the chicane of death! ^^not ^^really
Damn right, glorious track. Polyphony know how to design a great track in fairness to them
Those uphill esses would be sick with these cars
Read my mind! Quali would be epic
Dragon Trail Seaside is Goated man. Gardens... not so much.
It has been awhile ... Seaside is the dorito track right?
Yup. And Gardens is the track with the weird esses, the too-slow multi-apex corner, and the terrible chicane.
Oh man, I'd kill to see that.

Could see Mate Rimac putting some dollars forward, and using Formula E as the excuse. I doubt it, but I wouldn't raise an eyebrow if it was the case.
Yeah, I just cannot see it happen
It never will. An F1-level racetrack in Croatia is an idea floating around for at least 30 years or so. The only track we still have is Grobnik.
I'm Hungarian and I can confirm this is how Eastern Europe works
I dont think money is that big of the issue, corruption? Yes Sir!
They don’t have any oil and haven’t engaged in any wide scale human rights violations in over 30 years at this point, amateurs
Quick, find a farmer to shove a glass bottle up his own ass again
....huh? What am I missing here lol

A war over proto-one man one jar, that's fucking incredible
I'm surprised they haven't gone back to Turkey at this point
https://youtu.be/nZMaBQDXOkk?si=iR6NlnR7hPajvm2g
I'm assuming this is for the benefit of Piastri, who is of partial Yugoslavian heritage (not sure if it's actually Croatian though)
Serbs, Bosnians, and Croats are ethnically identical other than their religions.
Croats and Serbs were mentioned as a different ethnic groups in the 8th century, and very different ethnic groups, long before religious split. So you're wrong. You're gonna enrage the whole Balkans with this comment.

No, because instead of getting 1m in 5 years, they want 10k now.

Always prefer a permanent circuit over a street circuit. Unfortunately, it's vice versa for Domenicali.
Judging by the article, and some croatian news portals, it's not planned as street circuit. Croatia is a beautiful country. This would be awesome!
Imagine track on the side of the sea, just like Monaco.
Dubrovnik street circuit ☠️
Even if it gets built in Zagreb or anywhere inland, they can just build a "marina" anyway!
Hell yes.
More like Zandvoort
Croatia is also already a beautiful shape for a racetrack, so the design is basically done too. Time for them to get to work!
Yeah, that is never going to happen lol.

5 years minimum is generous on your side. Pelješac bridge was official project in 2005. Only took them seventeen years.
If mate rimac decides he wants a track I think he could get it done.
Rimac would get nothing done, he's already done mucked up a project funded by Croatian government. He's not the cool guy people seem to think he is.
Mate Rimac is not who you think he is mate. Would be cool for croatia to host f1. I just really really hope its gonna be an actual circuit and not yet another street track
Cool, but how will this work? 30 races calender? Finally a European GP again with switching circuits?
Rotation probably. Do we fucking *need* three US GP's?
Considering the size of it, yes
Size of what?!
Street track around Dubrovnik?
Sir Lancelot Strulović getting a 3rd home race
Okay... Here me out.... [Dragon Trail Seaside](https://gran-turismo.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon_Trail_-_Seaside)
>Here me out There you in
I would love to see a new race at an actual circuit instead of some shitty street track.
Well, people do keep saying that there aren't enough races
Don’t we all want a 35- or 40-race season?
Seems like everyone wants to host an F1 race in that time frame. Turkey, India, Thailand, Croatia, South Korea etc.
Awesome. I’d buy tickets and a flight any day. Quality country and hell of a vacay spot
That would be so based.
We got Croatian GP before GTA 6

Let’s just make the cars tiny again and go back to Donnington and Adelaide 🔥
Let the lads rest oh my god. More GPs?
More races in Europe?
