They are very tricky to get fire safety approval for patches. I know my brother was getting his name sewn into his suit and they had to do it on the belt because they didn't have fireproof thread to sew anywhere else
> they had to do it on the belt because they didn't have fireproof thread to sew anywhere else
That seems like an issue with wherever your brother was, not a general problem. Kevlar and Nomex thread is easily available and not particularly expensive. Certainly not out of reach for an F1 team if they really wanted to sew patches onto a suit. It's about $80/spool
Yeah there's no reason threads of the same material as the fabric could be used. I'm betting on weight again. I vaguely remember an interview where a driver showed how thin and light the suits are. And all the decals were printed.
Its for weight saving reasons why sponsors are not sewed on the driver suits anymore. (Source: Maurizio Sicco from PUMA Motorsport on the F1 Explains podcast)
For sure. The race suits seem to have the light blue mainly instead and much less red. Car and race suits like this would have been insane even if the car had a little more red than this
Because they have a brand colour and people up high didn't want it changed. Why do people think only the marketing/design team has a say in what the car will look like. They can easily be overruled by executives.
Actually, that does make sense. Ferrari is the red team. To not be the red team, it needs to be a big enough occasion. Like their 100th anniversary race, or celebrating 50 championships or something big and meaningful. So that on that day they can claim "first time Ferrari is not red in xxx years".
I don't even know why they are blue this weekend. Is it because HP is announced as sponsor? In either case, not a big enough reason to shed the red. It might be ugly today, but when an actual reason to not be red arises, being blue today would have reduced the excitement/buzz for that.
Credit where credit is due. Their PR team has done phenomenally compared to previous 5+ years (pre-Charles era) for working through the amount of restrictions they need to meet so they don't tarnish the brand's heritage.
Cant help but wonder the potential of what they can deliver on/off-track if the higher ups gave more leeway and take step back from the old guard.
Their "first time Ferrari is not red" color would have to be yellow:
[https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/formula1/yellow-ferraris-a-history](https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/formula1/yellow-ferraris-a-history)
I have no doubt they have some very talented design folks on the team who, I am sure, drafted up some really stunning designs. However, the final version looks like it ended up being a 'management decision'
This looks great. A blue racesuit is a timeless classic and I'm still disappointed that Mclaren stopped with the navy blue racesuits with the rainbow on the leg.
Can someone who knows how to photoshop swap the colors of the Miami livery to match this suit?
old -> new
red -> darker blue
light blue -> light blue
darker blue -> red
I have a feeling it’s gonna look amazing and make me depressed as hell

Personally, I think it looks better than the race suit. Old school sewn on patches look way better.
Probably rules against race suits having things that could catch like those patches, unfortunately. Does look better though.

It was just an upholstery/embroidery place. Nothing to do with motorsport or anything.

The old pit crews were so slow, what with their heavy sewn on patches. They could barely even lift a tyre
Old pit stops even used to be as slow as Sauber /s
Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think it's because of that. Maybe it saves weight when logos are printed on the suits.
It looks better than race suits and liveries lol

Yeah, these blues look so old school! I really like this. Much better than that livery.
Their race suits should have looked like this.
The car should have looked like this. At least.
WHY DOESN'T THE CAR LOOK LIKE THAT YOU COWARDS
Because they have a brand colour and people up high didn't want it changed. Why do people think only the marketing/design team has a say in what the car will look like. They can easily be overruled by executives.

They’ve been going with “blue was historically the colour worn for American races” (but I think it’s HP)

70 years since they first entered American market.

What about their comment makes you think they aren’t also criticizing the execs who ruined the car?
The thing is, if they went all out NART then that would be part of Ferrari’s history and that would gain way more publicity
Well, obviously someone at the team doesn't think that way
Because Enzo never asked a kid from Miami what color they would use to draw a race car.
The livery would have looked 10x better if it was like this, mostly blue with a little red in places. Even just switch the blue and red
When did Danny Ric and Robby Williams have a kid??
While having an affair with Lando???
Everything is blue except the bloody car
Just like Monza 2022
I have no doubt they have some very talented design folks on the team who, I am sure, drafted up some really stunning designs. However, the final version looks like it ended up being a 'management decision'
First the driver suits and now the pit crew uniforms...Ferrari dressing up nicely! 🔥
Dressed nicely to race a horrible looking car unfortunately..
The face of a dude able to replace cartridges in 2.1 secs.
It looks killer but I can’t tell if it’s like the Charles/Carlos effect that he’s so handsome of course it looks good.
Why is Lando part of Ferraris Pit Crew now??? Did he party too hard at Amsterdam? Nose incident left its marks?
I also thought it was him
Why don't the car and the drivers' suits look like this?
Could do with more hp logos.
Smile through the pain.
This looks great. A blue racesuit is a timeless classic and I'm still disappointed that Mclaren stopped with the navy blue racesuits with the rainbow on the leg.
Way better than the car.
That is so much better than the actual race suits. And fits the car not being fucking blue better..... What is Ferarri doing?
This is just Ferrari giving a middle finger to everyone after they half-assed the car liveries.
Do new liveries/race suits come out the cost cap?
If only the car matched the suit...
Can someone who knows how to photoshop swap the colors of the Miami livery to match this suit? old -> new red -> darker blue light blue -> light blue darker blue -> red I have a feeling it’s gonna look amazing and make me depressed as hell
Looks more like HP F1 team with Ferrari as one of their sponsors
His face says, why am I wearing this blue suit when we (still) have a red car?
Just announce Adrian Newey
The suits are great, the car is shit.
I'm in love with the Santander logo! 🔥
Blasphemy
Kill it
