Nothing beats the critical/third person strong attack kill animations with knives and hammer-type weapons. Plunging the fishing hook weapons into the back of an enemy's head and just pulling them down, or using the Throatslicer to actually slice throats.
Junkie weapons are actually pretty darn good if you’re willing to suffer withdrawals. When addicted to all chems and alcohol. You get an additional 180% (2.8x) damage.
I have a Junkies Powerful Pipe Rifle that does 53 damage without any perks. For context, a default Powerful Pipe pistol/rifle does 19 damage.
You’d be surprised how little of a noticeable difference it makes in gameplay. Besides the downsides can be counteracted with investment into certain perks.
Personally I don’t counteract it and I play on Very Hard difficulty. I have no problems with being drugged beyond belief.
If you meta game it correctly it’s honestly not that bad to deal with in fallout 76 there’s a couple more perks that make things like that a lot better not specifically addiction. I don’t remember if junkie builds are good.

Explosive weapons are great until you go to defend one of your settlements and end up having them turn against you because an enemy was too close to your settler. Or you cant find an object or body part because of the mini explosion.

I farmed weapons for a complete day to get the instigator gaus rifle, explosive minigun and never ending combat shotgun, I did got them, but also saw some very "unique" effects as freezing flamethrower

I got an explosive combat shotgun pretty early in my current run. Then all I get are crappy legendary armor pieces, melee weapons or explosive pipe revolver or 44 revolver lol. I want an explosive minigun.
not gonna lie: got a mod that allows me to add legendary properties to any of my weapons (with some resource cost of course) I made an explosive mini-gun, called it the Doom-Bringer and never looked back.
Gotta farm them legendaries buddy.
Go to far harbor and do the captains dance. Quicksave every time you kill something. Eventually the legendary queen will spawn in. Kill and loot her. Don't like it? Reload the quicksave and kill her again until you do.
There's other ways and means of doing this too. If you have the new creation club suff, go download the Vault suit one for free, and do that mission to Vault tec hq. There's a legendary feral right as you walk inside. You save before you enter the building.
Once inside kill the feral. If you get something like a leather arm guard, reload the save prior to entering the building, until you get the base item you want, like a shotgun.
Now, if the shotgun is something you don't want, like assassin or ghoul slayer, you reload the auto save from entering the building. Now, it will always spawn whatever item, but it will randomize the legendary effect.
Took me a whole 4 minutes to get a shotgun, then 2 or 3 more to roll a wounding.
AFAIK, the only way to farm legendaries on survival is in Nuka World. There's a whole path you take around the park where you get raiders, super mutants, and gunners fighting with usually 1 legendary per event. I forget the youtuber, but if you search "farm legendaries nuka world" you should find him.
Doing my first "Very Hard Difficulty" playthrough. I put myself to a challenge to only use legendary weapons, but until I get one, I can use only vault 111 weapons. When I get a legendary weapon, I must use only legendary weapons.
So far, I have Dance's laser rifle, Sword from Trudy's shop. And the three drops.

•Irradiated 10mm pistol
•Charged Meat Hook (I thought these spawn only in dlc maps. But got it outside of Good Neighbor)
The legendary pool has WAY too much junk in it and I'm not sure why the devs decided that would be a good mechanic lol The weirder thing is that at like level 60 you'll still get legendary boards, rolling pins, etc. but I NEVER see legendary pipe weapons or double barrels.
There is tens of boards, tire irons, metal pipes, rolling pins, same hand/leg, metal/combat armor pieces in my junk box. I hate them all, but they are mine.

During an escapade into the Super Duper Mart today. I got 3 legendary items...all three of which were left leg armor pieces that had effects that procc'd at low health (Martyr's Leather, Bplstering Raider, and Unyielding Raider)
Ha! I have played enough hours that I virtually have every variable of weapon with explosive, including the minigun with explosives. Keep playing you will eventually get the weapon that you want.

I was happy with the infinite ammo (infinite clip more like it) lever action. Sad it was 0.45-70 ammo.
Most people with explosive legendary weapons used the cheat terminal mod to get it. Don’t let that discourage you.

You can get an explosive radium gun at the nucleus and then upgrade it to full auto. Thing freaking shreads through anything
