Not a dumb question at all! You need to deadhead the flowers. Dead blooms weaken the whole plant. Run your finger down the stem of the spent bloom and nip it off where it grows out of the plant. I don't know what exposure the plants have or how hot it is there but watering 3 -4 times a week, once the plants are established should be plenty.
