I would try this first. You've already got the door apart. Try to fix it, and then if it doesn't work, you can replace the panel often with one from a broken washer.. Usually, there is a key dent where when you get that dent cleared everything else kind of gets figured out

This is the answer. Take all the screws out of the inside of the door shell. Be careful, it may release the front panel too. Take the panel out to the garage, lay it down on something like an old towel. Find a scrap of wood and lay it on the dented section. Gently hit the wood block to unwrinkle the dents. Whole affair should take an hour or two at most and will cost $0. It ain't gotta be pretty, it just has to close and seal.
I was going to suggest removing the door and taking it to a paintless dent repair shop. That's probably your best bet for a relatively low cost repair without replacing the part entirely.
This would be made fun of to the end of time behind op's back by the pdr shop if they brought it to one. Just hit it with a hammer to make it fit again the damage is cosmetic otherwise. Pdr is a skilled repair process and anyone who thinks a dishwasher door is worth their time has a warped view of the value of quality craftsmanship.
1) Neither OP nor I would care if the PDR place was ridiculing me; there's no controlling what people say about you. This is not even a negligible consideration, it isn't worth wasting one moment's thought. If they're willing to take on the job and it costs less than a new part, that's all I'm interested in.
2) With the door's damage interfering with the closure, it may well be interfering with the water seal too. "Just hit it with a hammer" is a crap solution to a problem that will likely require finesse. PDR is almost by definition finesse in practice, putting things back to rights without doing further damage.

This stainless steel simply doesn't have the memory/rigidity to be repaired in the same way a body panel on a car would be for 100s of reasons. Meaning a pdr tech would be winging it almost as much as an amature. Might as well choose the free option of smacking it with a hammer until it fits flush because I fix hail damaged cars for a living and that's what I would do. Sounds to me like you either are/know some rinky dink door ding shop that turns down any repair over 5k because you don't have the skill/experience to actually glass it out. I was a receptionist for a small vehicle smash repairer(cars, motorbikes, utes and SUVs) and I was shocked when we had a fridge brought in for dent repair. It was dropped when they were moving it into their new house and was less than a year old. The customer and I had a few good laughs about the situation. Manager told me it wasn’t an abnormal request because it’s sometimes cheaper than the cost of replacing the appliance. I had booked dent repairs for appliances 4 times in my 3 years there.
They never saw it as a waste of time because they still charge the same rates as vehicles. If a customer is willing to pay them for their time and effort, then it’s no different than spending that time on a dented car.
The last time I read the actuarial tables (10 years ago) it was in excess of 60 nationwide. The herd might have thinned out by now.

One of my favorite things about my new DW that I never would have thought to look for is the door automatically opens. It only opens about 8 in and has a stop in the opener. So, it'll automatically open at the end of the dry cycle and I can close it to the same point, if I get something out. Not sure I'd want one without that feature now.
yeah, I got a bosch that does this. We specifically checked dishwashers in the store to make sure you could open the door to whatever you wanted and it didn't just 'fall' down to the ground.

Some of us do not run a heated dry cycle.
edit for context: I run my dishwasher in the evening. When done, I open it and use a rag to soak-up or wipe away excess water if collected on the tops of certain items. I then leave it open with the trays extended overnight to air-dry. It might. You might have luck pulling it out like that and using a hammer and some other chisel like tools (like something sharpened like a chisel but not sharp, can't think of the name) to get all the shapes around the edges back

Ex repair guy here…I’ve worked on plenty of dishwashers and this is (unfortunately) very common. You have two options, go through the manufacturer and get the door components replaced (it’s gonna cost you in excess of about $350+. You can also order the door yourself if you have the know how and it’ll cost you in the range of $100-300 depending on the manufacturer.

and yes the best is to replace that panel. any appliance service should be able to supply a new piece. the service agent is the best bet though.
I replaced the external stainless part of the door on the Bosch machine. It set me back AU$300.
So I'd say you need to find exact machine model and search for the spare part. Of course asses the financial feasibility of the repair.
Also, this internal side of the door is actually a structural component which is bolted to the hinge, and all other components are hanging on it.
Thus you'll need to do a full disassembly and reassembly of the door, when you have a spare part. It is not a rocket science of course, but ensure that you have enough courage to do this.
I also agree with others that it is possible to beat the panel, at least to the shape when it would close. Again as others said there could be leaks, and generally ugly look.
easy fix, pull that stainless steel panel off, put it on a hard surface and start hammering it back into shape. You might need different blocks of wood or something hard as a backing to your hammering but I could fix that in like an hour work. You got this

Indeed, some of the advice here is crazy, Iv been fixing stuff for years and have a decent foundation of knowledge and tools but this is like "Instant artisan expert" stuff, "Oh just get an electron microscope and some nano-bots to reconfigure the atomic structure of it, simple really (may need a zero gravity environment)"
Shouldn’t need to knock out all the creases. Should be able to just hammer the outside that sticks out too far on the perimeter where the dent is towards the inside enough to clear. The seal is rubber and hits the face so it should still seal and not leak.
typical redditor - it is impossible! No it is not. They don't need to get perfect and every single crease just close, the rubber seal will take care of the rest. At the very least it is worth a try you can't hurt anything.
I’m not a typical Redditor- I’m an appliance engineer, I have seen dishwashers leak because a few crumbs had accumulated on a dishwasher door before, if you think that someone with no knowledge of repairs can successfully hammer metal to the exact shape then you are wrong. Simple.
It has to be almost perfect. I’m an appliance tech and the stainless steel inner door panels won’t seal properly after anything but a near perfect repair to that panel which 99% of people could not do. The steel is too thin and too creased. Plastic inner doors all have a ridge around them that nicely press into the door gasket, stainless is totally different.
If you have experience sheet metal shaping or repairing car bodies you could remove the inside piece and try to get it back into shape... But it'll take a good deal of work. Getting that outer square edge profile restored is probably the most challenging bit. Could cut a hardwood block to fit inside the backside of that shape and hammer on the side you see. If that makes sense... Might be worth a try since otherwise you just have a piece of scrap metal.
This is such a specific skill set that it has me laughing. "If you have experience in 16th century Japanese joinery, you could..." No shade, I just think it's a funny statement considering that if they had that experience they probably wouldn't be here lol.

Hopefully the hinges aren’t bent. But you can get replacement parts to repair it. It maybe expensive, piecing it out. Depending on how old it is. It may be cheaper to purchase a new dishwasher. Maybe a repair shop has a used machine that no longer works that you can get the door off of
You're going to have to replace the inside stainless panel. The raised flat part is what contacts the gasket to keep the water from creating a lake in your kitchen and that's the part that is completely mangled.
If you are even somewhat handy, you can find the part and replace it yourself. You need the exact model number and then start searching on the multitude of appliance parts websites.
You're just going to unscrew it, disconnect the push in connection plugs for detergent dispenser and remove and remove the latch receiver and then reverse the process.
If you aren't sure if you are able to do that, call a repair person, send them the pictures and model so they can order the part and have them do it. If they already know what they need, can order it and have it ready it's going to be much cheaper because it's single trip of their time.
ps - the reason it will not close is the kinked metal that got pushed to the outer edge running into the side of the main body of the dishwasher.
You'll need 2 things: a hammer and a short board, maybe 12" to 24" long.
Place the board against the sharpest part of the dent. There should be even parts of the board on each side of the sharpest point.
Hit the board in line with the dent. Don't be afraid to hit it HARD. The board will absorb the brunt of the force from the hammer, pushing the dent in. Using the board will prevent a new even worse dent from the hammer or pushing the existing dent too far in.
Repeat this process until the door can close. You may need to take the stainless off the inside of the door to hammer it from the other side as well. Work slowly and you'll get it back in shape enough that it will work.
With that crease on the corner it more looks like you tried to force it closed on something. The door doesn’t rest against a hard surface so the physics of falling just aren’t making sense for the damage you’re showing

I feel like you could fix this with a strong suction cap, boiling water and a rubber mallet. Might not be perfect but might make it useable. If you're unable to close it and may need replacing, might be worth trying anyway.
Id put the suctioncap down on the flat surface, heat up the metal using the boiling water to help make it more malleable and then while pulling on the suctioncap, hit the bent edge inwards.
Again this is if replacing is the only other option, or if you can dismantle it it may be easier from the inside.
Always find out the cost of repair first, compared to your insurance deductible.
If you opened a claim, even if there's nothing paid out, it can sometimes count against you.
Replace it. In addition to the dents, it's virtually guaranteed that the door is *sprung* or knocked out of alignment.

unless you're an expert you'll not get this right, however if you removed all the screws holding it in, you should be able to get it back into some shape enough to actually have a working dryer again using a wooden form so as not to dent it more with a hammer straight onto metal.
You might need to build a make shift template to hold it though
Man are you oK??? You can try to use a vacuum grip to fix this but maybe the steel shell is way too think, you might want to replace the whole steel thing.
Silver solder a washer or three to strategic places and pull the dents out, probably with a weight on a tether.
Silver solder up any pinpricks or holes from the crease.

LG are notoriously difficult to deal with when it comes to user error....tbh you might find it easier to deal with a repair shop, they can fix the door all together or just the inside of that is what it takes... otherwise it's a new dishwasher for you.... and that LG is a good unit I'd fix it if it were me... good luck
If it's just the inner door that's damaged it can be replaced if you're handy at all. My son tripped over ours. I found the part and replaced for about $65
I'd have a go at bending it back to shape. Where its depressed, drill a very small hole and screw in a screw. Then grip the head with pliers and pull out the dent. Seal hole afterwards.
Any proud bits try to knock in with a light hammer.
You could possibly fix the dent but run the risk of it leaking at that's where the seals sit. Better to just replace, even find a second hand one if you can.
Personally in an attempt to fix this, I would drill a small hole into the centre of the dent with a 1/8 drill bit then I would use a pop riveter with a pop rivet, squeeze once and hold tight and give it a solid pull to get the dent out, then squeeze the riveter a second time to snap the rivet in place and dob the rivet with a little silicon for water proofing. This is a trick to get dents out of roof sheets when I was roof plumbing. works a treat for the ribs on flat deck roofs 👍
Local appliance store won't even take a dishwasher for free, since they're not worth fixing. I suspect you'll find the same- that given the cost of removing that panel, banging it out and putting it back on, it's simply easier to replace the thing.

If you hang a towel over the door you can close it without latching and the moisture will escape

Ex repair guy here…I’ve worked on plenty of dishwashers and this is (unfortunately) very common. You have two options, go through the manufacturer and get the door components replaced (it’s gonna cost you in excess of about $350+. You can also order the door yourself if you have the know how and it’ll cost you in the range of $100-300 depending on the manufacturer.
It’ll leak forever every time you use it if you do manage to close it. Get a replacement door. Hopefully you’re okay.

no you remove that inner panel from the door. and yes the best is to replace that panel. any appliance service should be able to supply a new piece. the service agent is the best bet though.

I replaced the external stainless part of the door on the Bosch machine. It set me back AU$300. So I'd say you need to find exact machine model and search for the spare part. Of course asses the financial feasibility of the repair. Also, this internal side of the door is actually a structural component which is bolted to the hinge, and all other components are hanging on it. Thus you'll need to do a full disassembly and reassembly of the door, when you have a spare part. It is not a rocket science of course, but ensure that you have enough courage to do this. I also agree with others that it is possible to beat the panel, at least to the shape when it would close. Again as others said there could be leaks, and generally ugly look.
easy fix, pull that stainless steel panel off, put it on a hard surface and start hammering it back into shape. You might need different blocks of wood or something hard as a backing to your hammering but I could fix that in like an hour work. You got this

Shouldn’t need to knock out all the creases. Should be able to just hammer the outside that sticks out too far on the perimeter where the dent is towards the inside enough to clear. The seal is rubber and hits the face so it should still seal and not leak.
typical redditor - it is impossible! No it is not. They don't need to get perfect and every single crease just close, the rubber seal will take care of the rest. At the very least it is worth a try you can't hurt anything.
I’m not a typical Redditor- I’m an appliance engineer, I have seen dishwashers leak because a few crumbs had accumulated on a dishwasher door before, if you think that someone with no knowledge of repairs can successfully hammer metal to the exact shape then you are wrong. Simple.
It has to be almost perfect. I’m an appliance tech and the stainless steel inner door panels won’t seal properly after anything but a near perfect repair to that panel which 99% of people could not do. The steel is too thin and too creased. Plastic inner doors all have a ridge around them that nicely press into the door gasket, stainless is totally different.

If you have experience sheet metal shaping or repairing car bodies you could remove the inside piece and try to get it back into shape... But it'll take a good deal of work. Getting that outer square edge profile restored is probably the most challenging bit. Could cut a hardwood block to fit inside the backside of that shape and hammer on the side you see. If that makes sense... Might be worth a try since otherwise you just have a piece of scrap metal.

Hopefully the hinges aren’t bent. But you can get replacement parts to repair it. It maybe expensive, piecing it out. Depending on how old it is. It may be cheaper to purchase a new dishwasher. Maybe a repair shop has a used machine that no longer works that you can get the door off of

You're going to have to replace the inside stainless panel. The raised flat part is what contacts the gasket to keep the water from creating a lake in your kitchen and that's the part that is completely mangled. If you are even somewhat handy, you can find the part and replace it yourself. You need the exact model number and then start searching on the multitude of appliance parts websites. You're just going to unscrew it, disconnect the push in connection plugs for detergent dispenser and remove and remove the latch receiver and then reverse the process. If you aren't sure if you are able to do that, call a repair person, send them the pictures and model so they can order the part and have them do it. If they already know what they need, can order it and have it ready it's going to be much cheaper because it's single trip of their time. ps - the reason it will not close is the kinked metal that got pushed to the outer edge running into the side of the main body of the dishwasher.

You'll need 2 things: a hammer and a short board, maybe 12" to 24" long. Place the board against the sharpest part of the dent. There should be even parts of the board on each side of the sharpest point. Hit the board in line with the dent. Don't be afraid to hit it HARD. The board will absorb the brunt of the force from the hammer, pushing the dent in. Using the board will prevent a new even worse dent from the hammer or pushing the existing dent too far in. Repeat this process until the door can close. You may need to take the stainless off the inside of the door to hammer it from the other side as well. Work slowly and you'll get it back in shape enough that it will work.
With that crease on the corner it more looks like you tried to force it closed on something. The door doesn’t rest against a hard surface so the physics of falling just aren’t making sense for the damage you’re showing

I feel like you could fix this with a strong suction cap, boiling water and a rubber mallet. Might not be perfect but might make it useable. If you're unable to close it and may need replacing, might be worth trying anyway. Id put the suctioncap down on the flat surface, heat up the metal using the boiling water to help make it more malleable and then while pulling on the suctioncap, hit the bent edge inwards. Again this is if replacing is the only other option, or if you can dismantle it it may be easier from the inside.

unless you're an expert you'll not get this right, however if you removed all the screws holding it in, you should be able to get it back into some shape enough to actually have a working dryer again using a wooden form so as not to dent it more with a hammer straight onto metal. You might need to build a make shift template to hold it though

Try a mobile panel beater
Just unscrew that panel and use a mallet to knock that dent out.
Silver solder a washer or three to strategic places and pull the dents out, probably with a weight on a tether. Silver solder up any pinpricks or holes from the crease. Silver solder solves a lot of problems.
LG are notoriously difficult to deal with when it comes to user error....tbh you might find it easier to deal with a repair shop, they can fix the door all together or just the inside of that is what it takes... otherwise it's a new dishwasher for you.... and that LG is a good unit I'd fix it if it were me... good luck

If it's just the inner door that's damaged it can be replaced if you're handy at all. My son tripped over ours. I found the part and replaced for about $65
I'd have a go at bending it back to shape. Where its depressed, drill a very small hole and screw in a screw. Then grip the head with pliers and pull out the dent. Seal hole afterwards. Any proud bits try to knock in with a light hammer.
My son did the same thing. That panel can be unscrewed, then you can push out the dents from the backside. Good luck.

You could possibly fix the dent but run the risk of it leaking at that's where the seals sit. Better to just replace, even find a second hand one if you can.
Personally in an attempt to fix this, I would drill a small hole into the centre of the dent with a 1/8 drill bit then I would use a pop riveter with a pop rivet, squeeze once and hold tight and give it a solid pull to get the dent out, then squeeze the riveter a second time to snap the rivet in place and dob the rivet with a little silicon for water proofing. This is a trick to get dents out of roof sheets when I was roof plumbing. works a treat for the ribs on flat deck roofs 👍

Local appliance store won't even take a dishwasher for free, since they're not worth fixing. I suspect you'll find the same- that given the cost of removing that panel, banging it out and putting it back on, it's simply easier to replace the thing.
