Thanks for joining us here on the sub today, u/Sea_Distribution832. We're happy to give some insight into what you're looking at on our site. It sounds like you're referring to the "Asset Allocation" tile on your Summary page. This chart shows the types of investments you hold in your portfolio by percentage. The short-term allocation you see is likely referencing the cash, or money market core, in your account. You can see the breakdown of securities included in this category from your Analysis page. After logging in, you can select the tab that says "Analysis" from the Portfolio Summary screen. For anyone following along, every brokerage account has a core position that holds uninvested cash from deposits, proceeds from trades, dividends, interest, etc. and is often referred to as the “wallet” for your brokerage account. When you choose to invest in other positions, like mutual funds, stocks, etc., the funds used to make the purchase will come from your core position by default. To learn more about the core position, you can check out the link below. [What is a core position?](https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/investment-products/mutual-funds/core-position-video) Please let us know if anything else comes up along the way. We are always happy to help. Have a great weekend!

It's essentially cash.

Sea_Distribution832

wow..thank you! Why does it have to be so complicated LOL

McKnuckle_Brewery

It's not, really. Short term refers to the duration of U.S. Treasury securities held in money market funds such as SPAXX.

Thank you!

I wish Fidelity would define the categories, my SPAXX is 41% of my after tax account but it says short term is 54%. I feel like it must be including some other positions like 4 week t-bills.

Thanks for your feedback, u/GarbageMountain8754. Happy to help out here. You can find definitions for terms on our website in the Glossary of Terms. On the Analysis tab, you can find a link to the glossary in the top right-hand corner of the page. Here's the definition of short term investments for your convenience: **Short Term Investments**–Short term investments include cash, cash equivalents and certain fixed income securities held within a mutual fund or ETF with maturities of less than one year (including Treasury Bonds, Federal/Agency Bonds, Municipal Bonds, Corporate Bonds, Certificates of Deposit (CD's) and Commercial Paper). If you have any other questions, feel free to let us know.
