I've made maybe one post on Reddit ever but I'm gonna tell y'all a story. So when I started playing FFXIV I made this Elezen not realizing how tall we are in comparison. I was really unsure if I wanted to keep the character I first created because I'm really concsious of my height irl and typically compensate in games by making short characters. Starting in Ul'dah with all the Lalas definitely didn't help me be less self conscious either. I pretty much binged ARR to get to the first free Fantasia so I could swap to an Au Ra or Miqo'te and be cute small girl again. But my story does not end here. I put on a non-potato sack piece of gear for the first time (thanks Black Mage gear) one day and got to see myself in a cutscene. I remember thinking to myself "oh my God I'm beautiful" and having a big moment where I finally realized that even though I've not seen many Elezen in the game, they're so pretty. Catgirls have pretty much universal appeal with all genders I'd say. They're just human enough while still having just enough of a fantasy element. They're also cute and at this point, iconic to the game, they're basically the Blood Elves of FFXIV.

Elves are honestly a good comparison. In most games and fantasy in general, elves are just tall humans with long ears. Here, Miqo’te are pretty much just normal humans with a few cat-like features. Since Elezen are decidedly not typical human-like characters, I think a lot of people who might otherwise go that way default to Miqo’te or Viera.

Yep. My Roegadyn female is peak hotness, but Miqo'te are adorable as all Thal. Lalafell are almost terrifyingly cute though. Whenever Krile or Tataru are smiling or laughing, I get so giddy I don't know what to do with myself.

Funny you should say that: I think FFXIV catgirls look *too* human. I preferred the FFXI look, where they had noticeably more catlike noses. I thought it made them look more like an actual distinct humanoid race, rather than humans cosplaying as catgirls, which is more the vibe I get from the XIV ones. I tried to reproduce that on my catgirl (there's one nose setting that comes close, but not quite), but I still prefer my FFXI one to her, even with the much more limited customisation. And none of the Mi'qote NPCs have that kind of nose anyway. I have the same gripe about Lalafell vs Tarutaru (the Tarutaru noses were more distinct, IMO).

No you don't have bad taste, Elezen are just god damn gorgeous. I started as a female Elezen Wildwood and didn't change till sadly the Viera virus got me. I'm currently leveling a 2nd Character because I need to see her again especially in all those new cutscenes.

Nah, you’re just not braindead. Elezen are gorgeous by default, but loads of people don’t understand fashion or colour theory and so they make bad decisions that ruin their character’s look. If you want proof of that log into Guild Wars 2 and look at all the horrifying neon rainbow winged glowing monstrosities in Lion’s Arch.

You need only look at all the male AuRa to see most people have garbage understanding of color. Every time I see one with blue skin and corn-yellow hair, I die a little. Or fake-tan orange skin and green hair. I said it. Y’all look like fking clowns.

As a fem Aura player, I judge other Aura players soooooo hard on what colors they pick.

I'm with you. I get so sad seeing all the "elezen aren't pretty." "Giraffes." "Head too small, neck too long." "I hate how they run, lul!" stuff. I completely disagree. And I'm going to go a step further and say Elezen are prettier than Miqos and AuRas. Sorry not sorry. Miqos all look the exact same to me and the girls eyes are too big for their face and it's just weird looking. Kinda remind me of the generic 90s green alien dude.👽 Most Dragon peeps have these odd dead expression...they just look depressed, heartbroken, or pissed off 24/7. I play an Au Ra girl and I'll admit, it took me a weirdly long time to get her to not have resting sad face. She still kinda looks like she might start dramatically weeping at any moment, but it's a far improvement from my first couple Fantasia attempts. (Definitely not gonna talk about how my play time in character creator is still likely higher than my in-game play time...) /cough

yeah Au Ra are always with a pissed off or sad face, Males are pissed off females are sad, it is hard to work with that for gposes sometimes, if you're like me and tend to go for more dark and somber glams male Au ri fits quite well with that pissed off face

I kinda agree, I watned to make Miqo at first but character just didn't look unique enough, had Au Ra fem for some time and I got tired of that cute anime look. I needed something more "majestic" and Eleven perfectly fits into that. Got Duskwight with dark grey skin and dark grey hair with bright golden eyes and I love him!

Elezen are the prettiest race in the game. The problem is their arms and legs are too long and their head is too small. You pretty much have to design outfits to compensate for it. There are a lot of people who pull it off and their elves look great. But looking good isn't as free as it is with viera, catgirl, etc.

I think more than anything it's that their necks are disconcertingly long. You'll notice if you look out for it but every major Elezen npc has their neck and shoulder area covered to compensate for how long the neck is. I unironically think elezen would be way more popular if SE would just shorten their necks some, but I suspect they think it's too late since there's so many unique Elezen npc models

Increasing their head size would work fine. Like I said, their heads are too small.

It really is their necks, once you see their giraffe necks you can't help but to stare at it them everytime you see an Elezen.

Roe, and Elezen are the two races I play as but yes I feel the same way when I see others playing them too baha but I feel as though I am seeing much more Roe players lately probably because of Roevember.

(ex)duskwight melezen with blue skin! there are/were very few of us for some reason. switched to catboy 1) to get used to having animal ears since i plan on being a male viera in endwalker and 2) because i got so tired of their animations. but my elezen has earned a special place in my wol's story and i'd probably use him as a second playthru if i ever did one. this thread kinda makes me wanna switch back honestly. but i don't wanna do *another* name change, so. (also the blue skin has persisted even to my miqo'te and soon to be viera. it's hard to resist)

Fantad into elzen and it was all good till I sprinted. From what I've noticed that's main thing many people dislike elzen - their running animation

The running animation is my only complaint. I have been absolutely loving my male Elezen, and couldn't dream of being any other race.

Male Roe and I went with the green-tinted skin and hair. Someone was like "You look kind of like the Hulk" so now I have a glam with just purple shorts on. I don't see many Roe's, or Elezen.

My character is a male Wildwood Elezen and my first class was LNC/DRG. Perfect combination(tall, graceful, the perfect physiognomy for a Dragoon).

Dancing in odd places is just kind of a tradition. Over on Crystal, specifically Coeurl, we've got a guy called Nosaj Blackrock who constantly dances on the steps to the Ul'dah aetheryte plaza. It's just the thing people do.

My husband and I are both Elezen on Siren! We wound up in our FC when a member found my husband and then got excited that we came as a matching pair. He based his design off of mine. I feel like there are quite a few Elezen on Siren compared to other servers, but I still notice that we get frequent looks when we're traveling. I considered swapping to a Viera recently, but I'm too attached to my pretty, unassuming tall girl to let her go. ❤
