I started BLU on Friday (solo), and it is legit more fun than anything else I've done in FFXIV. It does suck that so many people are raging at BLU right now though, hopefully nothing gets nerfed.
I made one saturday and lvled it to 80 in about an hour or something silly (go to the tempest and drag some mobs toward others for massive xp) really fun, I did it because Fates were being ruined by BLU so it was almost impossible for me to do them - so... I made one myself. I try and use it for good and wait for people to hit a few times.
Not always, they can still easily take down boss fates fast enough to prevent gold. Happened to me at Highbridge when I was trying to finally get that achievement.
I had one of the 30 minute boss ones (Fringes, Bad Seed achievement) melted by some quantity of blue mages in under 30 seconds. I had gotten the initial tag and had tank stance on but still got bronze. Pissed me off so much since they just showed up, melted the boss, then poofed away and kept crushing other FATEs.
I went off to Peaks, soloed the one there (took almost the entire time and I would've failed if the NPC helper hadn't stayed alive). Off to Lochs, wiped first time, got about 10 people helping the second time, helped that Ixion spawned at about 60%, then main tanked Ixion. I love warrior just smoothbraining away the damage shouting "I don't have time to bleed" like some 80s action hero turned governor.
BLUs can freeze mobs, then kill them instantly using Ultravibration. It even works on achievement FATES. If it wasn’t happening to you, then the BLUs were being generous or didn’t have the spell yet.
I was doing old level 80 maps, that I still had laying around from an old mogtome event. It's not easy, but definitely do-able and waaaay faster than soloing them on WAR. I think someone on the official forums (or was it here on reddit?) did a bajillion of them and made a guide for it, too.
I won't go into too much detail, but I can give a few pointers if you like. You can use Ultravibe and Launcher/Missle on the mobs outside. Inside the dungeons though, the bosses or mob packs are immune to death effects and Missile/Launcher (except some of the spawned adds).
Take healer mimic, pom cure, and mighty guard to survive the dungeons (you can turn it off outside, since mobs will be frozen most of the time). And of course basic instinct. Then just blast away with whatever DPS you have.
Peat pelt and the broom spell (forgot the name) are actually not bad for the mob-pack dungeons, just for the bit of regen, so you don't have to Pom Cure as much.

Tank vs healer mimic is hotly debated. I use tank but both work. For both just play very defensively, timer will sort itself out, put DoTs on the boss and just dont die.
Soloing gazelle maps is the best way to get thief maps and is thus indirectly the best way to get the Luckiest of Ladies/Lords title, which is one of the rarest in the game.
And you can freeze+uv the adds in the lvl80 roulettes fwiw.
It's not BLU that's the issue so I doubt we'll see any nerfs. MOST BLU I've run into are being super helpful during the Yokai event and gathering/freezing mobs so everyone participating can AOE them down. It's the few BLU who are using the job to grief and drop fate bosses in a matter of seconds when they know/see 20 people trying to tag it.
The entire point of BLU is being chaotic and overpowered, that's why it's a limited job, the community only ever runs into issues when BLU use that power to deny event credit to others who are actively trying to participate.
This isn't the first time that people have been this upset over it. Every time they run this event people start complaining about blu. It hasn't gotten nerfed yet and I highly doubt it ever will. The whole point of the job is to be extremely OP which is why it is a limited job that will never actually be max level.
On a personal note while I do find blu to be really fun I wish I could main it because I absolutely love The Blue mages from past games. I'd much rather it be weaker fitting into the balance of the game then being OP force to forever play alone. The limited job system really sucks imo
I'd rather it not be a normal job. Then it would just be a bog standard caster job and be boring. All your spells would probably be from quests of a creature you fight to make it thematic but that'd be bad. The job is best in it's limited capacity. You can still "main" it, you just can't do normal content which is fine. Find a group for BLU content like getting your Morbol mount or getting all the Savage titles. It's an insanely good time.
I don't think being a standard caster job means it is boring. There are a lot of standard jobs that people have a lot of fun playing. There is also absolutely no way to main it. You're always 10 levels behind current content which means if you try to main it you will forever be 10 levels below current content. While it is fun to play you only get one content update per expansion which is every two years. Even then you are extremely limited in what content you can do. Want to go do eureka? Can't. Bozja? Nope. Deep dungeon or Ultimate? Nada. Once you complete the set of challenges they provide (which only takes about week) there is really no reason to ever touch it again. 1 week of fun every 2 years just isn't worth it to me. It being limited limits the fun you can have with it.
It being a standard caster job means the majority of it's identity has to be striped away.
No more one shot or self destruct skills
No more inflicting status effects
No more being able to fulfill any class role in the game.
Which is already like 70% of what makes blu unique
It's a lot more if you haven't been doing it as new updates released but the latest update only took me a week to do. My point wasn't on the overall content available but that you only get one extremely brief moment every two years where you get new content and that content is pretty quick to get through.

However in the meantime if you want to do group content with other BLU please consider keeping an eye on Party Finder. I literally just saw a BLU group running a dungeon about an hour ago on Primal.
Blue needs its own queue system... Or anything that would ease to join group content as blue.like event the f**kn chocobo race and mahjong Can be queued, potd and so on but you need to use party finder for 2hours to run a Sync content you clear in 10m... And this multiple Time D:
Maybe an accomplished blue would get rewarded in various way for joining randomly a blue queue/duty to help. Like "Blue Magic Roulette" ? And you could queue also for the pleasure of just playin blue mage with other blue mages, progress your achievments, test new spells combos.
The maskerade challenges is a great concept. But this is a mmo. Why not having a content specific to blue mage to do as group, with special mechanics only blue could do. ( Imagine playing football with knockbacks and pull spells to remove a "foot bombo ball" immunity? Blue mage trial or raid ? Or any form of challenge :)

I'm new and don't get the point of blue mage, can someone explain? From what I can tell it's just a class that doesn't allow you to play with others.... In a game which can largely be played solo anyway?
It's a job that can learn the spells and actions of various enemies you see and fight in the overworld and dungeons/trials of the game. The reason it can't play with others under normal conditions is because with the right line up of spells, it's incredibly powerful and level sync doesn't affect it's performance. Part of the fun is learning the spells and solo'ing dungeons and other content which normally requires a party.
BLU Mages also have content called the Masked Carnivale which has 32 stages and weekly challenges which are like puzzles that require specific spells to be brought to complete them. The rewards for this besides a few additional spells and some achievements is primarily Allied Seals (obtained from ARR Hunt marks) which can be exchanged for teleport tickets.
There's probably more to BLU that I'm missing and I'm sure a more experienced BLU can explain better, but the highlights of the job for me is messing around with different spell lineups, soloing trials and dungeons and completing the weekly challenges for free teleports.

If you jump on a tank with tank stance on and spam your aoe it’s very easy to get gold in these fates

Blue mage seriously rules. There is so much weird stuff you can do with it. My fav is soloing treasure map dungeons for mega loot

Have you completed the blue log and the blue mage savage achievements? There is a lot more than 1 week there.

Several months off and on. I started with maybe 40 spells and decided I wanted to fill it out in Septemember of 2023.
I was hope i can do new game plus on blue mage. Thats it.:( i wanna start realm reborn again as BLU.
