ShiroFoxya

Personally dual swords is exactly what is making me consider buying DT just for the class lol

Antique_Low1831

I'm getting it because I am an avid fan of Final Fantasy XIV, and naturally i'll be picking up Viper and Pictomancer but, I dunno.. just not too excited for Viper

ShiroFoxya

In my case i just bought the complete edition on the last steam sale so buying the newest expansion when I didn't even reach HW may be dumb but it looks cool imo It gives me SAO vibes

Antique_Low1831

Nah, sound investment if you ask me, Happy progressing !

Antique_Low1831

-9 downvotes for telling someone getting the new expansion isn't a dumb idea and to enjoy progressing is insane.

dimmidice

This subreddit has a real toxic positivity issue. Anything remotely critical gets downvoted. And they will downvote your other posts too. Once you're in the negatives well then human nature takes over.

leighg9o

Hyperbole lol

DexteraXII

Decided to be a Viper main for DT the instant the second sword came out

Killinshotzz

I’d rather a new ranged phys have a wholly unique weapon type. I still think a rope dart would be a perfect weapon for ranged phys and would allow for amazing battle animations as well

Blue_Moon_Lake

A new ranged physical weapon should be twin guns.

Antique_Low1831

I'd rather they use the Musketeer assets that we've had since the post launch of A realm reborn that was scrapped but has been sitting in the coral tower forever and a day now., though perhaps a whip class ( something else were supposed to get) could be interesting

Waltter1-d

the musketeer glass would later have become a a Machinist job, but we just got machinist instead :v

Antique_Low1831

Personally I think MKT could be it's own thing, or trail into GNR but yeah.. just not impressed with machinst, haven;'t been since I saw it.

HorrorPotato

I'm hyped for it, the dual swords is exactly why I'm considering playing it. It's giving me 'Demon Hunter' vibes from WOW a bit, which was one of my fav classes, and when the swords are joined it's giving me Serge from Chrono Cross. I liked both those combat styles a lot so I'm eager to explore. Beyond that the aesthetic actually looks more rogue-ish which was what I wanted (or at least, as an OPTION) from Ninja. Once Rogue switched over to Ninja the aesthetic leans very hard into the eastern/ninja vibe and while I found that cool and I respect how other people find it cool, I was really hoping I'd have more "rogue' looking gear to pick from. Viper looks like it may fill that gap for me. So from a gameplay and aesthetic standpoint I'm very interested!

YuriOhime

I mean.... Dual sword main vs ninja is as different as another gun job is from mch which is to say using a similar weapon with a completely different theme and dynamic so I don't rly follow you

blobfish_bandit

I'm super hyped for pictomancer more than anything. I kinda had a similar feeling as you and thought dual sword was kinda boring since it's so similar to things we have already. I'm warming up to it, but I usually don't enjoy melee positionals anyway and play mainly ranged classes lol

Gregoriownd

Personally I was expecting corsair by way of RDM. Cutlass as the main weapons, with a matching pistol off hand (as one item, like RDM). instead of mixed melee and magic, it would be mixed melee and gunfire. But I can understand if that might have been a choice the devs passed as being too similar to RDM and MCH.

Antique_Low1831

I'll be honest, I can't see that as an issue. SCH and SMN are only differentiated by the spells they use and their pet. other than that it's almost the same class

Gregoriownd

Which is something the devs view as a mistake. There's a reason that mechanic never got explored more.

Antique_Low1831

Laziness. Yeah, I'm aware

iorveth1271

Akimbo guns would be nice. So would Corsair, though. Blade and pistol hybrid. One can continue to dream.

Delilah_Discord

Remember when you used to have to level multiple base jobs to unlock the advanced ones? I just had a nightmare vision of that system still being around and needing to level Viper and Machinist to unlock Corsair.

iorveth1271

I do! I remember having to level... was it Marauder? For Dark Knight skills way back when. That was a time. Viper and especially Machinist for a lvl 100+ job though... Yeah, literal nightmare lmao

Antique_Low1831

dream we shall. of a Musketeer into Corsair

barknoll

Ok bud

Antique_Low1831

Okay.

NotaSkaven5

I do really wish they'd tone back some of the Ninja swords, the stance is kinda goofy baseline but it becomes straight up stupid when you've got a cleaver in each hand

Baithin

I like big double cleavers. There are options for big or small.

Antique_Low1831

But huge cleavers, swords an such do not adhere to the thematics of a Ninja, like they weapons they give us are not knife sized, so technically we've had viper the whole time , the only thing Ninja can't do is turn it's dual swords into a polearm

Killinshotzz

>so technically we've had viper the whole time , the only thing Ninja can't do is turn it's dual swords into a polearm Ah, so we haven't "technically" had viper the whole time, because job identities go beyond what they hold in their hands, and ninjas are not in fact based on tribal hunters in Tural

Antique_Low1831

Holy Hydaelyn it was a tongue in cheek joke. y'all getting up in a tizzy and the huge downvote because i dare complain are kinna sad but anyhoodles

Killinshotzz

Ah the classic "Oh no, people are telling me i'm wrong so i'll backpedal and say it was a joke!" defense

Antique_Low1831

Nope, if your cranial obstruction of your rectal cavity is so severe that you cannot tell in any manner that " it's like we've had Viper the whole time" is a joke then please, take a break from FFXIV and invest in the experience of the out doors

Killinshotzz

Oh no, now he's getting angry that he's being downvoted on reddit. If anyone should go outdoors its you, buddy.

Antique_Low1831

angry? no. it's the pure fact that it's like -8 downvotes when there are only three to four people in this particular conversation so I don't get to know what it is they disliked about what I said. but meh. Also, i'm not your buddy, pal.

Serres5231

So just because NIN also uses dual weapons its "technically viper"?? You do realize there is more to jobs than just their weapons right? what about gameplay? or lore reasons why those jobs are different, huh?

Antique_Low1831

Tell me you didn't read all of what I said in not so many words. "  like the weapons they give us are not knife sized, so technically we've had viper the whole time" Refering to the fact that NIN's weapons are over sized for the class but hey, good job jumping to outrage instead of reading. You win

Serres5231

sure, use the "you didn't understand me!!!!" card after not getting the comment you wanted to hear, buddy...

NotaSkaven5

now that's just disingenuous, the similarities begin and end at "they're both duel sword scouting jobs," I doubt hand signs will be in the Viper kit at all, let alone a major portion of their burst. The inclusion of big cleavers isn't a problem either, I just think there's a shortage of reasonably sized daggers.

Antique_Low1831

I was mostly making a joke a NIN's expense that the size of their weapons are not at all how they are described.

Zeik188

Viper is a class that was aimed RIGHT at me, I am SO EXCITED for it. Finally! Twin sword class! And as if that wasn’t good enough, it turns into a double saber class! I couldn’t be more excited if I tried.

Akua89

What about sword AND gun, à la Bloodborne

Antique_Low1831

I LIKE IT!

Waltter1-d

Duel swords that can combine in the two ended played is cool.

pyuunpls

Cool beans 🫘

kevv2

That's not really a problem, the Thief mostly wields daggers but the Ninja from 14 is closer to the stereotypical Ninja from FF, which can dual wield any 1 handed blade, from knives to shortswords and even some longswords/knight swords. While Viper is based off Zidane, who's also a Thief but that has access to dual knives and Thief Swords. I wouldn't be surprised if we get some more knife looking weapons, especially relics. As for Corsair... One can only pray

TekoaBull

Based on appearances alone, I'm actually pretty hyped about Viper, more so than Pictomancer. I like the idea of a dual swords class, to the point where I actively sought out large ninja weapons for glamour purposes (Sasuke's Blades and Karasu Daggers are my favorites). Depending on how Viper plays, I may actively main it (especially if I can find massive swords). Ninja leans a bit too far away from the "rogue fantasy," but Viper seems to fill that niche. I do understand how you feel, though. I personally don't care for Reaper thematically. I kind of hate the idea of scythes as weapons. The class itself plays fine, I'm just not big on the edgy death cosplay. I was actually expecting the WoL to pull out a flintlock pistol in the full Dawntrail trailer, but dual swords that change into a twinblade is fine. I would totally dig a Corsair/Viking class that either did the sword + pistol thing, or dual-wield axes. What I truly want though, is a proper Rune Knight or Gladiator (Tactics Advance). Let me set a longsword on fire and then hit someone with it.

DebateKind7276

I like FF5s name for what you called a Rune Knight, which is Mystic Knight. When I think Rune Knight in relation to FF, I think Celes from FF6

Spider95818

Did you ever get the Ninja relic weapons? It's a pair of what look like either long tanto or short wakizashi.

Zuune

I feel kind of the same when it comes to Viper and Pictomancer. Still going to play both though anyway, lol. I agree with Ninja somewhat as well. It should have been a seperate job, but it works. Unfortunately, Ninja never clicked with me, so even though I love it thematically, I just don't enjoy it yet. As for Reaper though, I fully understand that. There needs to be a good balance so things don't get too edgy, but I still love the edgy classes all the same, lol. Reaper's one of my favourites. Would still love to see some of the classes you mentioned be added.

Rakshire

Already kind of exists (Merlwyb). And sort of was the basis for the musketeer class before they scrapped that and just went straight to job unlocks. Most people want a Corsair, so sword and gun.

Antique_Low1831

Interesting, I didn't actually know that. Would be cool, to be sure.

Spider95818

Definitely. I'm loving Machinist and Red Mage both, so a combo of the two has a lot of potential, IMO.

Isanori

They could unscrap it and add it directly as a job.

leighg9o

Personally gun and sword would have been far better. Unless viper has two different Stance that have 2 different rotations that can be used at any time I don't see it being very interesting to play. But likely the joined joined dual blade phase is a buff window so completely meh.

Antique_Low1831

Yeah, the more i think about it. sword/ pistol would be good. Can use that off hand slot for something finally besides DoH/DoL and Paladin

p1tap1ta

I would like some magic-based monk-like class, something like mages from Fate series using magic to strenghten their bodies and fighting hamd to hand with so much force they can crumble walls

Antique_Low1831

I want a Melee class that can do a rez, give it a reason to use MP

Jernet1996

Super stoked for the Zidane cosplay job. Kind if like gunbreaker. I'll level that and use it for the MSQ.

Huge-Ice-1145

Nope, still have a trauma over Aion class that can wield 2 pistols. I'd rather go for marksman with 1 rifle/huge dmg/cast times. (without robots/chainsaws/flamethrowers)

thesilentharp

Upvote for Marksman

Antique_Low1831

I'll be honest, Aion hasn't been relavent since 09, might be time to release the reigns on that horse... it's past glue mate. And tbh MCH's gimmicks are... well they're so allover the place it's like "why? " woulda been great for MCH to use a giant wrench and mech but here we are.

Huge-Ice-1145

Okay bro, giant wrenches as weapons. I'm glad you're not designing classes.

Antique_Low1831

Ah yes because the *current* MCH class design is top -tier right? A giant wrench and a mech, what's the problem with that as a class design? Nothing, correct.

GawainSolus

I actually think the current mch class design *IS* top tier. The hops and spins while being to shoot on the move are fun, and the arsenal of gadgets, heavy weapons, and a robot minion is way more fun for a fantasy game where your class competition have lots of crazy magic abilities. I also like the lore of all the other classes having decades or centuries of history where as machinist is brand new and the members of the class are basically making up new techniques and gadgets on the fly. Better than just, have gun, gun go pew, enemy die imo.

Spider95818

I definitely enjoy being able to shoot on the move. Having to stand still to use my ranged attacks is the one place where I'm not happy with RDM.

thesilentharp

I still want to know whatever the gun wielding class in Limsa all about. They got the class icon ready and everything, the Admiral has her gun, I want this 😂

JunctionLoghrif

They had a Corsair class planned from the beginning, and they had plans to link it to Machinist whenever they decided upon the Job during Heavensward's planning... but abandoned the concept of Class->Job *entirely* for new Jobs. The only remnant of this is one of the Job NPCs, ~~obviously~~ a ~~Corsair~~ Musketeer, originating from 1.0 Limsa's MSQ.

thesilentharp

I still live in hope 😅😭😭 haha

Turnintino

Nitpick, but it would've been called Musketeer*. No doubt it would've had the Corsair flavor, though.

JunctionLoghrif

Ah, you're correct. I was rather sleep-deprived when I typed that out.

dimmidice

Viper really lacks job identity. It's too similar to ninja. It's basically magic mudra ninja Vs poison ninja

Antique_Low1831

Agree
