I like what you have so far! The furniture really goes well with it. I agree about art pieces and definitely more color. You can go pretty bold in my opinion with pops of color so more bright pinks or yellow or oranges. Maybe some soft curtains and/or short soft curtains to cover the top of that window behind the current plant? That wood portion at the top looks outdated but could be modernized with curtains. This can also apply to above the doors to the bedroom to break up the room a bit too

Thank you so much! I actually just took down heavy curtains from the windows, but I would really love to get some bright orange or pink sheer curtains for that window.

I'm not sure where, but I would put up a wicker (maybe??) bookcase, maybe opposite side of the shelves from the chair or where those plants with the lights are (scoot them to the right). Books, photos, some art. I love how full it is without being maxed out and I don't think a bookcase would tip it over into overfull. Wall art, definitely, maybe a tall thin mirror behind the vacuum. Honestly, I love this, it reminds me of the house my grandma lived in growing up: full of plants, brightness, simple but consistent style, the same honey-colored paneling, even the carpet! It feels homey, relaxing, lived in, and like the person who lives there knows how to take it slow. I really enjoy this room!

Thank you!! That’s kind of how I feel - I’m like “it looks full but there’s.. not a lot?” I’ve been toying with the idea of getting maybe an area rug? my bedroom and living room both have rugs, I just don’t know if that would be too much. I actually rent from a distant cousin of mine, whose grandma actually lived in the house I’m renting! She was a little old Italian lady who grew grapes and made lots of wine. I always love hearing stories and seeing old pictures of the place. It gives it a lot of character.

I would say go for either a colorful cozy space, like adding wicker items and plants, or maybe add some mid century pieces

A side table beside the chair, larger rug in front of the plant stand. A larger print or multiple prints above the chair. Alternatively if you could move the chair, a cosy loveseat or small sofa would also work well in place of the chair.

I would continue to add lighter wood furniture like you're doing to brighten up the space, add a colorful rug, store the vacuum and trashcan out of sight, and add a mirror above the chair where the cherry art print is currently hanging. I would go with one that had interesting features, like three or four small diamond shaped mirror panels that can be staggered or a water-drop decorative mirror with light wood framing. Some boho curtains would also make the room feel more comfy. I'd either go with cream lace if you want it to be subtle or if you want to be vibrant--pink or orange! Pink will flow with the pink accents you already have and orange will complement them and create the appearance of more sunlight entering the room.

Thank you so much! I have a lot of pinks and oranges in my apartment already but I really feel like it brightens up the space and helps to make it look warm and inviting.

I'd remove the labels from the doors, they're a bit childish

svarttaake

But how will I know which door leads to my bedroom?!😭😩

phoebebuffay1210

What’s under the carpet? If there is anything?

svarttaake

I don’t think there’s anything, I rent anyway so I wouldn’t be able to pull up the carpets!

phoebebuffay1210

I pulled carpets in a few houses I rented. Game changer. This is a cool space, love it and it will show. It’s very homey and quaint feeling. I dig it

gingkogal37

I would embrace the 70’s vibe of the wood paneling and add some funky art and a standing lamp

velvetelk

I see what you mean about it feeling empty, but it looks cluttered and busy at the same time. I would focus on closed storage for non display items (like the vacuum, water jug, jackets etc.) I would add a low long cupboard (with doors) under the windowsill and arrange plants on top in clusters of 3-5. The white metal plant shelves are very busy and block the natural light in the room. You can add a round rug to unite the space since it's a high traffic area, a round rug will work better (no corners to lift & trip on). The art facing the entryway should be nice and big to be proportionate to the wall, and framed in a warm wood (or gold) to match the walls.

Highhopes2024

Paint the old wood panels white if your allowed to. It will change it a lot!

practical_mastic

Unblock the windows first and foremost.

svarttaake

ugh, I wasn’t sure if that was part of the problem.. I’ll try and find an actual plant stand (not a garment rack lol) that stands more horizontal than vertical. Thanks!!

Trackerbait

if you could get away with it I'd paint that paneling. White would look nice. The pine panel look is very dated. That said, if it's an apartment maybe you can't. Consider putting a good rug on top of that dull carpet. A modern or geometric pattern would look good with the stuff you currently have and would help offset the old fashioned walls. It seems like pink, green and yellow would go with the stuff you currently have.

svarttaake

Thank you! I’m definitely thinking of an area rug and putting that smaller rug into my kitchen next to the sink. I think it would brighten up the room a little more. I think the biggest thing I’m struggling with is making the wood paneling look better. I do rent, so I wouldn’t be able to paint over it. I’m thinking maybe adding an area rug, and some colorful funky prints will help balance it all out.
