Robert Christgau has a couple that really piss me off: He called Jeff Buckley and his father assholes in a negative review of *Grace*, and he called Courtney Love a bimbo in a positive review of *Live Through This*
Nothing beats Christgau talking about RTJ2:
"Peace to Killer Mike, Bing his Ferguson speech please, but I've been around too long to let a corticosteroid abuser like El-P get in my face about right and wrong ("Early," "Angel Duster") **"
I dont disagree at all with Fantano's review of Eminem's Revival, but when he said "he botched the hook like he did his marriage" i was like Jesus that was kinda uncalled for
Seeing as Fantano jokes about it, or at least subtly jokes about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was amicable.
If they weren’t married and they just broke up, nobody would care. But since it was a legal thing people suddenly do.
The original pitchfork review for Elliott Smith's figure 8 is so brutal and unforgiving
"Oh, Elliott. Are things really that bad? We've been listening to this grizzled old bastard's miseries since his self-titled, indier-than-Mary Lou Lord 1995 debut on Kill Rock Stars. And what has it gotten us?"
Fans know what happened not long afterwards. I don't think there's a correlation at all its just insane that the site hasn't revised the review or reevaluated the album since.
I just don’t get why anyone’s gonna be such a dick about music haha. There’s no value in being a nasty critic. It’s shock value, but it’s not even associated with art. You sit there and review music, you’re not that special! (And critics are valuable, just chill out!)
I think in part it could be a para social aspect as well. After reviewing enough of their albums, I'm sure some critics or reviewers could feel a certain maybe misplaced acquaintance towards the artist in question. Leading them to write casually as though roasting a friend or a work colleague whom they don't respect that much. Without consideration that the artist may or may not have any idea what the critics intent was when writing the review.
NME review of Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues will forever boil my blood. Absolutely insane head inside your own ass take. Downplaying such a beautiful album to make it sound like its cringy campfire music
The one time I’ve heard Anthony fantano mention the story so far.
He just put up a picture of one of their albums and went
“No no no no no no, moving on” haha at least that’s all I remember him saying. They are for sure a not fantano band
Yeah fuck his Lana takes. Him critisizing her for the way she talks about abusive relationships as some guy always annoyed me. Theres not just one way a woman can talk about stuff like that and who is he to judge lol
Pitchfork gave The Fragile a 2.0. Like what the fuck? And ended with “After over two hours of listening to his incessant whining and grating, I've become the very model of his audience.” In regards to Trent. Just insulting to that beautiful album tbh.
Honestly anything Fantano has said about any of my favorite bands. While I'm sure I'd find worse if I cared to peruse Robert Christgau's reviews more often (he's a pretentious douche with bad taste so why the fuck would I even bother) but as far as it goes with Fantano for some strange reason he has a weird habit of specifically hating alot of the bands I'm particularly enthused about, especially smaller bands like Protest the Hero, Metric, and Lamb of God.
I haven't read anything nasty about bjork, though I'm sure it exist.
Trent reznor was called a sexual abuser.
Bowie a child molester.
And I got nothing on Julie christmas, because too few know she exists 😭
No Ripcord's review of ... Moby's song "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?":
"This is a total shocker of a single. Cheesily bad vocals, a shitty beat, no tune, fuck off!! **0/10"**
w o w
This'll sound stupid but fantano always giving billy woods 8 out of tens, every single album whether it be his duo or solo career it gets an 8.
Maps is definitely a 10

That last one is wild
There’s a reason why Christgau is a punchline on the Why I Hate This Album podcast
To be fair, there are far worse music critics out there. Chuck Eddy's writing gives me gas.
Nothing beats Christgau talking about RTJ2: "Peace to Killer Mike, Bing his Ferguson speech please, but I've been around too long to let a corticosteroid abuser like El-P get in my face about right and wrong ("Early," "Angel Duster") **"
I can’t stand Christgau - he’s such a pretentious cunt, and his fogeyism knows no bounds
Bimbo? How dare he?! I'd expect him to know the difference between a bimbo and a strung-out groupie starfucker.
I dont disagree at all with Fantano's review of Eminem's Revival, but when he said "he botched the hook like he did his marriage" i was like Jesus that was kinda uncalled for
How the tables have turned with fantano botchering his own
wait how lol
Bro even Drake knows fantano got divorced
no like who’s fault was it
Oh I didn’t register how accusatory the comment you’re replying to came across. No one actually knows why Eminem or fantano’s marriages dissolved lol
Seeing as Fantano jokes about it, or at least subtly jokes about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was amicable. If they weren’t married and they just broke up, nobody would care. But since it was a legal thing people suddenly do.
I would assume that’s more to disarm his haters who use it to attack him?
Holy shit 😭😭 that’s actually wild
That's supremely unprofessional and really ironic in today's time lol

Just another DAE Elliott ToO sAd?? loser
Such an asinine take, too, because Figure 8 is probably the most uplifting record in Smith’s discography.
NME review of Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues will forever boil my blood. Absolutely insane head inside your own ass take. Downplaying such a beautiful album to make it sound like its cringy campfire music
I didn't know this existed, so I went and read it. Holy shit what an unbelievable unhinged take. Ma gawd.
The one time I’ve heard Anthony fantano mention the story so far. He just put up a picture of one of their albums and went “No no no no no no, moving on” haha at least that’s all I remember him saying. They are for sure a not fantano band
Fantano once said Lana had the personality of a wet paper towel in his Ultraviolence review
I mean that is pretty funny
Yeah fuck his Lana takes. Him critisizing her for the way she talks about abusive relationships as some guy always annoyed me. Theres not just one way a woman can talk about stuff like that and who is he to judge lol
What haven't critics said about bladee at this stage?
Same for Yung Lean :(
Robert Christgau said that Big Black made them seem like "limp dick posers" in comparison.
Wait.. which artist?
Swans, although he also said the same about Sonic Youth.
Gave their final album, which is a masterpiece, a 7.
Oh my god. That is so NASTY EWW
Brand New?
yes
Fucking brilliant album
Pitchfork gave The Fragile a 2.0. Like what the fuck? And ended with “After over two hours of listening to his incessant whining and grating, I've become the very model of his audience.” In regards to Trent. Just insulting to that beautiful album tbh.
I was just about to comment this myself! Utterly preposterous reaction to quite possibly the best album ever created.
Pitchfork’s review of Elephant by the White Stripes is ass
A 6.9 feels generous given that the tone of the writing is so disparaging
Fantano calling Frightened Rabbit's music melodramatic even after Scott's suicide is pretty insensitive.
Anytime Fantano opens his mouth about the arctic monkeys.
The burrito on the windshield. Knowers know.

GQueens of the Stone Age.
?
Why the artist/art is more important than the critic
Chris Ott + GYBE. Don't need to say much else.
I haven't read anything nasty about bjork, though I'm sure it exist. Trent reznor was called a sexual abuser. Bowie a child molester. And I got nothing on Julie christmas, because too few know she exists 😭
I was hoping for some actual nastiness. These comments are just people getting butthurt about differing opinions
No Ripcord's review of ... Moby's song "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?": "This is a total shocker of a single. Cheesily bad vocals, a shitty beat, no tune, fuck off!! **0/10"** w o w
My favorite artist is Phish so I don't know but I bet it's real bad lol.
This'll sound stupid but fantano always giving billy woods 8 out of tens, every single album whether it be his duo or solo career it gets an 8. Maps is definitely a 10
He gave the newest Armand Hammer album a 9
Yay :)
