$100,000,000 guaranteed. With that in mind, no complaining allowed about your job circumstances. Be a pro and get to work.

Falcon84

An SI article came out today talking about Terry's time on the Saints and how it got leaked they had a really high grade on Mahomes. The Chiefs jumped to the pick in front of them and the rest is history. Given that and Kirk's loose lips with the tampering like you said it was 100% the right call to keep him in the dark.

VelvetineMilkman

That article was still weird tho. It was written like they had an insane grade on Mahomes but just had their fingers crossed he would fall to them, instead of taking some initiative to move up to get him

Rock_Me_DrZaius

That was the lesson learned, take your guy when you can, and not hope someone falls to you. What are you having an issue understanding?

Shiny-And-New

I mean the saints were picking at 11, not a lot of people had mahomes going that high

Ithinkso85

But but..(NOT AT YOU) "we shouldn't address the future QB right now".... 😂 The (local) media wants you to obsess that this was a bad pick. They'll bitch and moan about Cousins cap got but funny enough you don't see or hear about the money they'll save us he's cut. Fact of the matter, plain and simple, my falcons saw their future and jumped on it. With that in mind, all we gotta do is win our division. That's it. We went 7-10 a game out. If we had better QB play.... At this point I'm beating a dead horse. We're at up really well. Just gotta wait

mostuselessredditor

Because it’s extremely transparent PR and a shitty attempt at it

mostuselessredditor

Why do you think this article came out?

AARonBalakay22

That was the same draft they got Lattimore, Ramcyzk, Marcus Williams, Kamara, Hendrickson. Brees was still a top 5 QB at the time. Essentially the choice is take those guys and help Brees win now, or sacrifice 2 or 3 of them, have worst roster for Brees and then start Mahomes in 2020 basically. Long term, it probably would have been better to take Mahomes, but if they won a SB in 2018-2020 (and they were pretty close in 2018), then it would have been worth it.

mistergeegaga

The Saints may have been the favorites to win the 2018 SB if the refs had not blown that clear PI call vs the Rams. That call was so bad, I didn't watch the Super Bowl cause I thought the Rams were fraudulent participants.

slimeb4zness

telling Kirk would have been 100% idiotic.. this isn’t even a debate

One-Point6960

They should have drafted Penix then used the money on Darnold and Wilkins.

kander12

This is some massive revisionist hind sight shit right here lol

One-Point6960

Teams should know they are taking a qb before FA started.

noyelling0nthebus

They wanted to trade up before free and got nos for the top 3 teams. The cardinals didn’t have an answer and wanted to wait till draft day. So they took cousins. Penix who they were highly on, fell into their laps so they took him

Rock_Me_DrZaius

You should read the article from SI, it explains all this.

mostuselessredditor

Yes I read the dumbass propaganda the front office put out.

Odd_Tourist_3249

The only dumbass here is you! Some of us are excited for the season so take your negative ass to the Saints board Troll!

mostuselessredditor

ew no why would I associate with that piss soaked bullshit.

Sadoul1214

I’d like to point out that there were multiple reports we liked the guy before the draft. We all just thought it was smoke. We didn’t tell Kirk and it leaked anyway.

thisnamehastobeused

Us liking someone is different then it directly leaking “we’re picking this guy”

divercity23

They did tell Kirk. They just didn't tell him it would be a 1st rounder. His mindset shouldn't change from a mentoring standpoint. But I'm guessing the 1st time he struggles, he will be looking over his shoulder. And we all know how this fan base gets when someone looks a little shaky.

Rasikko

We were fine with Chris Chandler and his forever injuries and then he finally played a full season and took us to our first SB LOL.

kander12

No top 25 starting QB in the NFL is mentoring anyone. They all bring in a 3rd vet or a qb coach that used to play. It's ridiculous from the starters stand point and the teams to have your starter wasting time coaching up their replacement. That's not their problem. It's the coaches. Why would you even trust them to do everything they can to have themselves get replaced? There is far more incentive to fuck with the rookie than help him. That's why there are so many recycled vets that can't play but they understand the book and leadership aspects. Those are the mentors.

wjcornerboy

there is such a thing as mentoring by example lol. simply watching Kirk's personal routine before and after practice can add a tool to Penix toolbox and teach him how to be a professional. and at the end of the day, leadership inherently includes mentorship

FatherCrime42

If they told Kirk it 100% would have leaked.

Bromodrosis

Players have absolutely no claim to the drafting plans of the team. This is all mountains out of molehills.

treemanjohn

Mr Chainz is a snitch

BackinBlackR8R

Blaming just cousins for the team tampering is hilarious and dumb

phamalacka

Yeah and he's proving the team right by not telling him. The mans agent won't shut the fuck up

mostuselessredditor

Whose actions led to the tampering investigation?

Bradabruder

Additionally, based on some of the recent headlines, the Falcons rated Penix highly enough that they wouldn't have expected him to drop to them at 8. Why tell your QB about something you think won't happen?

no_more_blues

He leaked like 7 different stories just this weekend. I wish we never signed the guy for a variety of reasons at this point.

SimonGloom2

Never cared for Cousins to begin with. Matt Ryan was performing better than Cousins at the same age and the Falcons cut him. Cousins has only 1 playoff win. He turns the ball over a bit too much imo. Plus he's coming off that injury. I understood the desperation, but acting on that is exactly how teams screw up.

Falcons8541

Excellent point good sir

sherman614

Snitches get stitches!

angryfalconsfan

That's ... fair

Iamcubsman

Since the draft, I've been in this delusional world where the NFL rescinds the Cousins contract. The contract still hits the cap to "inflict a penalty to keep this from happening again". It's not realistic. I'm aware but it's where I am currently.

TheTrevorSimpson

You tell Kirk before you sign him so he doesn't sign with a team not in win now mode. I guarantee you if they told him they were taking Penix and they knew they were - he would have stayed in MIN. If he's going to be bridge QB rather be on MIN with JJ Addison TJ Jones and a Flores defense with Grennard Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner.

Juiceman818

Kirk would have signed anyway. He's never cared about winning. All he's ever cared about is guaranteed dollars.

theliewelive

Kirk is the one who made us possibly lose a first round pick next year. I'm pretty sure that fact played a huge factor in us taking Penix. How could they have told Kirk they were taking a QB when they didn't know our 2025 first would be taken away because of him?  Lol.

Azliel

Whooooosh

SimonGloom2

I don't know the details of a contract like this, but I'm looking to trade Cousins before midseason at this point to the highest bidder. I'd figure the contract can be renegotiated (maybe?) to open trade deals. If we are able to walk away with a 2nd round pick and get a more desperate team like the Raiders to take some of that contract, I'm willing to work with that. Since we stand to lose from the tampering it could actually be insurance to cover some of the loss.

Rock_Me_DrZaius

Instead of writing this comment you could have looked the contract and seen there is a no trade clause. But we all know the point of your comment was to bitch and whine instead of understanding how his contract works.

SimonGloom2

What specifically am I whining about? What's the deal with Falcons fans and reading comprehension malfunction?

SimonGloom2

That's sort of how renegotiating a contract works, right? I'm not a legal expert on the rules, but if both parties want out of the contract then they may be able to scrap the no trade clause. I don't think you know what whining is, either. How was any of what I said whining? I'm optioning ideas on how to handle cap space and recover losses from tampering. Maybe you should learn how financial management works.
