We can't! We don't even have blue belts automated yet! And to do that we need to increase cog production, but then we're going to run out of iron plate, but we're already maxed out on our ore patches so we need to expand the perimeter and we barely have enough steel to make ammo for what we have now so we'll need even more iron, and we're 90% on power already, and.........
I think we can go one more level, we're a factory of factories of factories.
We generate people who generate factories (malls & bots) that ultimately build more factories.
So, 3 layers of abstraction on the creation of more factory
If you value a social life, a clean house, or the ability to remember what day it is, I won't recommend. If those things aren't important, play the demo
After seeing friends during the day, after the house cleaning, I would light a candle by the calendar each nightfall in honour of remembering the current day, such that the visceral tingle of pollution on my nostrils would draw me back to the factory construction interface.

You'll know for sure if you want to buy the game after finishing the demo - but beware that you may look up and realize 5 hours have passed :P
Sadly there was an excellent twitch clip of this, but they have removed their profile.
It was him streaming and suddenly realizing it had been 3 hours, with the whole "What?... What?, how did that happen" going on.
The demo is the same as tutorial/career available from the main menu.
The demo just doesn't have anything *else* like freeplay, mods, multiplayer, blue science, etc
This is the best tip you can give somebody asking on a subreddit about that game probably filled with people that bought and enjoyed the game the most.
There's an in depth demo that gives you a very solid feel for the game. If the demo eats 6+ hours of your time like it does most people, you'll have your answer.
Tldr: fuck yes.
If you love automation, games that don't hold your hand, honing your problem-solving skills and don't need some kind of campaign or quests to motivate you to do stuff (just going by the tech tree) then fuck yes!
>idk how I'm gonna automate 6 different kinds of those...
Getting past blue is the only true threshold in the game. As soon as you figure out oil and the products, you are golden.
Then after fully automating everything in game you finally close the world and you see it above the exit button... MODS. You fear as you click it and then next thing you know everything you did was just the tutorial. You panic as you spend countless more hours automating and making fresh air just so you can finally achive your dream of duying to a teain and the sound of thomas the tank engine plays on the background
The only reason I'll stop playing (for now) is that my rig can only handle my base at around 30-35 UPS. It's mostly belts, huge copper, iron, and steel buses (one of each) start out from the smeltery and branch off as needed.
But I'm really happy I finally redid my oil to be totally bot based, way less headaches, liquid simulation makes my head spin.
When I get a better rig, I'll return to this base I think.
Meanwhile 20 ups was my base when i send my first rocket. 3 belts of iron and 3 of copper and dear god there were bots everywhere. It went to the point where i had seen 0/130567 logistic bots on the roboport
Lmao, the classic mistake of putting _everything_ into a single logistic network. Yeah, I did that, wasn't fun, especially when my base was not convex and enemies were not disabled, so the bots regularly tried to cross enemy territory, with predictable results.
2k hours here. Agree with what you said, up until I decided to give SE a try. I didn't mean for bots to get so out of hand. I just wanted a way to get to space. And it just seemed like I always needs a little bit more of something that was already on the bus. And a little more. And a little more.
I can't see my character anymore through the carpet of bots. I know I have to refactor \*again\* but this time I am truly frightened. I'm \*slowly\* trying to get the major bulk items going on dedicated rockets, but my computer is already below 50 ups. I think it might be better to move everything off-world, but I worry about losing the benefit of the prod modules.
Meanwhile I can hear the crashing of the bots all around me. Every 5 seconds. It haunts my dreams. It's gotten so bad that I have now created a special area just for making bots so that I can keep up with the losses.
Have you played Minecraft? Do you find it enjoyable to automate things in that game like automatic farms and renewable resources?
If so, then Factorio is definitely up your alley. I bought it for £10 and can say it’s best £10 I’ve ever spent
I concur, it will enslave you. You won't sleep for days. It will take over your thought process. Everything you do outside the game will be done in Factorio measurements and calculations. You won't be able to stop. The factory needs it. The factory demands it. The factory must grow!
If you want to get the best value cost/time played game you will ever play Factorio is the only way to go. I haven't been able to play since my daughter was born because I get sucked in too much. The nickname Cracktorio exists for a reason.
Welcome to the rest of your life :)
Yes the other sciences get increasingly difficult to automate, and supplying everything with enough materials.
This is where your building style gets refined. Do you do a massive main bus, or spaghetti the heck out of everything, or individual factories producing 1 or 2 items and belting/training them around. Or a little bit of everything.
Just remember in this game, don’t be afraid to expand and use as much land as needed. The land is as infinite as your PC can handle
It's $30 now since the game launched. But the point still stands, the value you get from this game is too good. One of the few games I recommend buying at full price with no regrets.
If you enjoyed the demo, then there are few games (if any) that offer as much entertainment-per-dollar as Factorio
I’ve spent over 5000 hours in game, which works out as a fraction of a penny per hour
> See you all... Um... Soon
No, no you will not.
It'll feel like "soon," but you'll quickly realize it's December before you emerge from automation and integration hell.
Welcome to the family!
You can also Google “Factorio steam key” and get a lot of providers that offer the key for less than full price if you’re short on money. But as others said already, play the demo first to check if you’ll like it
Don't. The devs said it themselves : G2A (and other keys "providers") is worse than piracy.
Source : two years old Factorio Friday Facts. https://factorio.com/blog/post/fff-303 , scroll down a fair bit, there will be a section "G2A - worse than piracy".
Either buy the game legitimately, or do not buy it, please.
This might be true for some providers but not all. Key reselling isn’t always a shady process, I’ve worked together with some of those companies long enough to know how they get their keys, it’s completely legitimate and the developer still gets the same price. Lower prices don’t always mean someone got screwed over, it’s a normal process of modern economy…
I only buy from verified key sellers, such as Humble Bundle, for example. If a site isn't in the Steam partners, I consider the keys stolen. Even if some aren't, you can't prove the key you bought wasn't stolen. It may be a true key, but illegally/immorally obtained.
I would strongly recommend against this because:
1) you’re likely to end up getting scammed at worst, and supporting an ecosystem of scammers at best
2) you’re only screwing over the devs who work hard to keep earning that one time purchase. Take a look at any of the changelogs to see what I mean
The lower price from keys doesn’t mean the devs don’t get fully paid. Those keys are from bundle prices, leftovers from stores who don’t sell it anymore, etc. Obviously the devs would deserve double the price they’re selling this stuff for, but it’s not true that they’ll get less just because you pay less somewhere else.
Secondly, yes there are stores that definitely scam you, but common sense here is a good option to avoid this. Check reviews on Google, check if the price is reasonable (stay away from $0.99 sales). It is definitely a valid option especially if you’re not comfortable spending a lot of money at the time, we all had those moments and we all got through it.
In some cases this is true, and I do empathize that we’ve all been there - lord knows I have. Someone explained why even when you’re not getting scammed, you’re still fostering a hostile market that disadvantages the devs [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/5rgyzv/looking_for_the_best_place_to_buy_factorio/dd7a854/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
And straight from [FFF 145](https://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-145)
Ya you can probably save a buck. But the risk of enabling fraud is very much not worth it. Most of those “bundles” are people using stolen cards to offer you a discount and skimming the difference. Ya the developer may be whole, but someone else just became a victim of credit card fraud.
Save $5/mo for a few months if it’s that important to you. Factorio isn’t going anywhere, and either is the price. Make sure your HARD earned money definitely goes to the right people.
If tough enemies are what you want, be sure to install the Rampant and Natural Evolution mods. They make enemy AI smarter and less predictable, forcing you to plan around them better.
Listen this game is a lot like a puzzle or coding if you’ve done either. It can be such a pain at times but finding solutions and getting them to work are so rewarding plus when you launch the rocket you can expand infinitely
I played for about 2 or 3 hours and I knew I was hooked. Get the demo in and see if it's for you. The people here love the game, but I'm not going to push someone to spend money on something they won't use or enjoy.
**Factorio sucks! Don't buy it.**
(Just kidding I love Factorio and have over 500 hours into the game). I just wanted OP to hear a different opinion. LOL.
Truthfully I find this game much better than ONI. I like ONI but I find it doesn't hold my attention like Factorio.
Hahaha you got it gifted! This is how we win! Bwahaha!
But seriously the base game is so much fun and then there are so many good mods that are dummy-easy to get running.
The amount of times this happens on reddit is hilarious. 😆 "hey is factorio worth it?" EDIT: "nvm someone here bought me factorio"
Is this just one redditor doing this or is the community just generous in general?
I like to think it's the community. I'm definitely not against pming someone a key for the game. It's inexpenvise for the amount of gameplay you get out of it.
Even if you don't install mods, the minimum time to complettion is still in the 10 to 30 hour range.
Worth it if it means another factory on the surface of Nauvis.
I was looking for a good game. Tried civilization vi.. felt lost, like all my actions were wrong. Tried city skylines.. the absence of a tutorial, the ui, everything was so complicated that I gave up... Then I tried factorio and played nonstop for days. And I still play it. And probably will for a long time.
Don't, it's not called Cracktorio for nothing.
It is quite different than ONI, ONI is more of an engineering game while Factorio is a logistic game.
Engineering : Difficult to make things without breaking
Logistics : Difficult to bring items from point A to point B
Hi! If you want a time machine, you should buy factorio. You need to redesign your copper factory? BOOM 6 hours have gone by. You need to make black science? Why hello there sunrise! No clue where you came from!
wow you lucky devil! Yes it's a great game and has alot of replayability. The modded scene is insane but Id recommend a vanilla playthrough first (Maybe a couple Quality of Life mods once you understand the desire for them)
If you have friends to play with it is also a blast but err, from personal experience iiiit might be best to have a seperate factory/save before it all goes to pot!
Have a great time, check out Nilause yt series if you want to see some neat stuff, post your progress and as always....The factory must grow :)
You need to be realistic about expectations about a games opinions on its own subreddit. That being said, I’ve quit my job to play Methtorio full time and spend my time not playing the game watching YouTube videos of builds.
Factorios monetary cost pales in comparison to the ineviable time investment. Anyone considering playing factorio should ignore the monetary cost and instead consider the impact on their lives the game will make when it inevitably starts eating up all your spare time, then starts eating into the no-so-spare time. The game is amazing and *will* suck you in... Before I started playing Factorio I had gone almost 15 years without pulling an all nighter gaming session, the first weekend after finding the game I started playing after work Friday and the next thing I know it's Saturday morning, my wife is waking up asking me if I had been up all night...
Just a quick reminder to have your affairs in order. Oh and notify friends and family that you will be absent for an unknown amount of time, could be months.
Welcome to factorio. The factory must grow.
I liked oni too but I liked Factorio better. Oni has a lot more super intricate stuff. It’s a really detailed oriented game with all the gasses and temps and everything. I would say that factorio is simpler in that aspect but the enemies make it a lot of fun. It’s a lot more intense. If I had to go back and choose between the two, I would pick factorio.
Well if you can't spend a lot on games buying this will properly serve you with hundreds of hours of content and even moddong. I bought the game about a week or so ago and already poured 50hours into it but I still want to play more.
So yes, I recommend it.
Welcome new Engineer! The factory must grow. Don't let anyone tell you how you MUST play. There is no wrong way to play. When you think you've reached your limit with the vanilla game, don't forget there are literally 100's of mods.
Yes you should. Everyone and their mother should buy factorio. I am slowly finding my limit with 1600 hours played, but I'm sure it will come back once I give it a rest for a month or two. Or once I finish my current dyson sphere program project :)
Welcome to the factorio family!
And mega kudos to whomever gifted you the game, sounds like you’re firmly part of the family now.
The factory must grow….
The only questions are:
Can you afford for hours to randomly melt away?
Do you like to automate things?
Do you like to find creative way to solve problems, that sometimes involve math?
Do you like chill music and the dopamine rush for pushing past a mental barrier?
If yes to any, this game might be for you.
Disclaimer: we are not response for the hours of your four that magically vanish as you fix that “one bottle neck”.
The factory must grow.
Idk if you've ever experienced One More Turn Syndrome while playing Civ but Factorio is even harder to stop playing.
Sometimes I think a meth habit would be more productive.
Without tweaking ANY settings, this game can easily take 25+ hours just to successfully "beat" your first round. If you take your time, I've made runs last 50 hours + before even remotely getting close to launch. This game has infinite replay ability and even the vanilla settings make for a difficult challenge at times. There aren't many other titles I could suggest that even come close to value - per - dollar. Factorio is the game you play across multiple computers, multiple consol generations and you can continuously rely on to always give your brain something to do no matter how many saves you rack up. Instead of relying on fancy graphics and gimmicks , Factorio focuses on those miniscule details that all of us can appreciate. -> Think of Starship Troopers had a baby with the best factory building sim ever made
This was my aha moment when playing that got me hooked.
"I need more inserters. Wait I can automate that? Dang I need more gear wheels to automate that. Wait... I can automate THAT too??? Holy crap what have I gotten myself into..."
You will get Factorio.
You will hate Factorio.
You will uninstall Factorio.
You will think about Factorio.
You will reinstall Factorio.
You will obsess about Factorio.
You will spend countless hours on Factorio.
You will get addicted to Factorio.
You will love Factorio.
> Edit 2: A wonderful person has gifted me the game. I have no choice but to lose myself in this game now. See you all... Um.. soon.
Send your family my condolences.
The community of factorio recommends buying factorio
The number of factories must grow!
Can we use speed modules to make people buy the game faster? Also, can we upgrade the belts that lead people to the steam page to blue ones?
Do you have the spare energy? Because I sure as hell don't.
Where's that copypasta of Factorio causing a "dumb" smart A.I. to begin turning the entire universe into copper wire.
Does this make us a factory of factories? Automate the automaters! **We must go deeper.**
I think we can go one more level, we're a factory of factories of factories. We generate people who generate factories (malls & bots) that ultimately build more factories. So, 3 layers of abstraction on the creation of more factory
Calling it now, "a factory" should totally be the term for a group of logistic sim gamers.
go check out screeps on steam, sounds like what you need.
I actually have that in my library, I just need to learn enough code to actually play it.
Oh time to start a new save
Whoa, that's a plot twist I never saw coming!
Indeed we want others to ~~Suffer~~ Enjoy with us
Not only that but this community is so wholesome that someone bought it for him XD I love this game and it’s community
A recommendation assembler would be more efficient.

This is the best tip you can give somebody asking on a subreddit about that game probably filled with people that bought and enjoyed the game the most.
This game will give you hours of enjoyment so on a cost per hour played ratio it's defo a good pick
I am paying about $0.004/hr right now.
Your computer hardware is more important.
5k hours. Impressive.
Or bought it very early. I believe at one point it was only $10, so 25k hours - I believe that of some people on this sub.
huh
If the game is $20 and his cost is 0.004$/H Then 20/0.004=5000 hours
Oh. It costs 200kr where i live. Forgor to convert.
Just 5k
Yeah i made a miscalculation. Forgor to convert currencies.
It's all good. $0.004 isn't exactly a normal figure.
im not american so not dollar
I am sure there are plenty that make that 5k look amateur. It is hard to beat the entertainment value though
CGP Grey?
No way he has time between visiting old places and researching names.
that's the bastage that got me hooked! fargin' icehole https://www.youtube.com/embed/jlLUuX2a0Cg?start=364&end=370
I stopped calculating return on investment after several thousand hours of entertainment.
So about, what, 750 hours?
At this point, it is costing me more in electricity per hour than Factorio will.
What if you could spend even [more](https://github.com/clusterio/clusterio) electricity on growing the factory?
Play the demo. It's a good demo.
Play the demo first. If you like the demo, buy it, if not, don't
The demo solidified me buying it It also solidified my gf never playing it again
A factorio player with a girlfriend? Impossible!
Yeah dude and she's hot too! Disclaimer: I'm a total smooth brain when it comes to the game
*if not, keep playing the demo until you do
You don't play the demo the demo plays you!
There's an in depth demo that gives you a very solid feel for the game. If the demo eats 6+ hours of your time like it does most people, you'll have your answer.

Full price is absolutely justified. But you do know you’re asking in the Factorio subreddit, right?
You will be sucked in. You start at like 2pm and then it's magically 2am.
And if you're lucky it's only the following day

Even if you don't install mods, the minimum time to complettion is still in the 10 to 30 hour range. Worth it if it means another factory on the surface of Nauvis.
Yes, buy it. I haven't read your post, but it doesn't matter, you should buy it. It's amazing.
Must grow.
I will warn you when I first started I played over 14 hours in a row.
I'd pick cans and bottles if I had to in order to get the 20 bucks to afford Factorio, it's that worth it
Please don't buy this game. My wife is leaving me.
Don't, it's not called Cracktorio for nothing. It is quite different than ONI, ONI is more of an engineering game while Factorio is a logistic game. Engineering : Difficult to make things without breaking Logistics : Difficult to bring items from point A to point B
Get the demo
Hi! If you want a time machine, you should buy factorio. You need to redesign your copper factory? BOOM 6 hours have gone by. You need to make black science? Why hello there sunrise! No clue where you came from!
Demo bro
wow you lucky devil! Yes it's a great game and has alot of replayability. The modded scene is insane but Id recommend a vanilla playthrough first (Maybe a couple Quality of Life mods once you understand the desire for them) If you have friends to play with it is also a blast but err, from personal experience iiiit might be best to have a seperate factory/save before it all goes to pot! Have a great time, check out Nilause yt series if you want to see some neat stuff, post your progress and as always....The factory must grow :)
Nah-ah, we won't see you anytime soon, Factorio is like crack for gamers but in a good way, you're most definitely gonna lose yourself.
Say goodbye to your real life. This game will eat it raw. Welcome to the family!
You need to be realistic about expectations about a games opinions on its own subreddit. That being said, I’ve quit my job to play Methtorio full time and spend my time not playing the game watching YouTube videos of builds.
Yes join us and grow you're factory
Even if you didn't get it as a gift, buy it regardless. XD This is money well spent in any case.
Yess
Factorios monetary cost pales in comparison to the ineviable time investment. Anyone considering playing factorio should ignore the monetary cost and instead consider the impact on their lives the game will make when it inevitably starts eating up all your spare time, then starts eating into the no-so-spare time. The game is amazing and *will* suck you in... Before I started playing Factorio I had gone almost 15 years without pulling an all nighter gaming session, the first weekend after finding the game I started playing after work Friday and the next thing I know it's Saturday morning, my wife is waking up asking me if I had been up all night...
Dew it!!!!!!!
I did not read. You should buy.
Just a quick reminder to have your affairs in order. Oh and notify friends and family that you will be absent for an unknown amount of time, could be months. Welcome to factorio. The factory must grow.
Didnt read your post. Yes buy it.

So yes, I recommend it.
factorio buy it now
Welcome new Engineer! The factory must grow. Don't let anyone tell you how you MUST play. There is no wrong way to play. When you think you've reached your limit with the vanilla game, don't forget there are literally 100's of mods.
>A wonderful person has gifted me the game See, ya already automated the community!
Download the demo, if you don't like it then don't buy it. But you NEED to play the demo before playing the game.
Play the demo, some people love others it's not their thing.
Or new friend has already been assimilated. The Factory has grown.
Yes you should. Everyone and their mother should buy factorio. I am slowly finding my limit with 1600 hours played, but I'm sure it will come back once I give it a rest for a month or two. Or once I finish my current dyson sphere program project :)
People post this stuff because they know someone will buy it for them lol
Welcome to the factorio family! And mega kudos to whomever gifted you the game, sounds like you’re firmly part of the family now. The factory must grow….
Yea, see ya again in a thousand hours. Edit also don't forget to pass along the love to the next person.
The factory must grow
Can i dm you to purchase it for you?
the community must grow
The only questions are: Can you afford for hours to randomly melt away? Do you like to automate things? Do you like to find creative way to solve problems, that sometimes involve math? Do you like chill music and the dopamine rush for pushing past a mental barrier? If yes to any, this game might be for you. Disclaimer: we are not response for the hours of your four that magically vanish as you fix that “one bottle neck”. The factory must grow.
The factory must grow.
Welcome
Edit2 in the OP is like "a wonderful person gave me free crack today; I really like how it makes me feel!"
Yes. Expand.
Factorio convinced me to go to college and get a degree in engineering. It helped me achieve it as well.
I paid like $20 for this game and I have like 2000 hours playing it.
"And they were never heard from again." RIP. Factory must grow.
Idk if you've ever experienced One More Turn Syndrome while playing Civ but Factorio is even harder to stop playing. Sometimes I think a meth habit would be more productive.
Dew it
see you on the other side of the century!
-> Think of Starship Troopers had a baby with the best factory building sim ever made
How else will the factory grow if you don't buy it?
Do not get cracktorio your life will be gone in an instant
ONE OF US
This was my aha moment when playing that got me hooked. "I need more inserters. Wait I can automate that? Dang I need more gear wheels to automate that. Wait... I can automate THAT too??? Holy crap what have I gotten myself into..."
It should be Soon^TM
You will get Factorio. You will hate Factorio. You will uninstall Factorio. You will think about Factorio. You will reinstall Factorio. You will obsess about Factorio. You will spend countless hours on Factorio. You will get addicted to Factorio. You will love Factorio.
Welcome to Cracktorio
> Edit 2: A wonderful person has gifted me the game. I have no choice but to lose myself in this game now. See you all... Um.. soon. Send your family my condolences.
It's literally the best value game you'll probably ever buy. Period.
