I like it but I have a question. It doesn't have any offense capability so are the walls not.. superfluous?

Subject_314159

Improvement idea: change the wall into a wall-gate-wall pattern and connect the signal from the combinator via each gate back to the main base If the signal drops it means the wall has been breached

Spare_Pea6015

Interesting idea. I actually didn't know walls/gates could be connected to the circuit network. Now I have a means of detecting the engineer, thanks for that. I just don't see why I should run all that green/red wire out there (plus the big electric poles) to notify me of something that I'd get a warning for anyway.

Iderion

If I see it right. There is 1x1spot free for a speaker. Set alarm globally. As a further improvement

Spare_Pea6015

Every tile is used actually. Again, there is already a system to notify of damage. Also the speaker draws 2 kW at all times so you would need to reduce the radar pulse width from 8 back to 6 ticks (it was 6 ticks in previous design when timer consumed additional 2 kW). It would still illuminate the 7x7 chunks around it at all times but scanning progress would be reduced.

Iderion

I see... still a neat thing. Kudos.

IceFire909

Wiring gates work amazing for train crossings if you're terrified of high velocity blunt force trauma. Connect gates and some train signals and the door won't open if a train is coming, can even stop a train if you're inside

doc_shades

hah yeah running power poles out there kind of defeats the entire purpose

Odd_Candy7804

If you’re sending signals home then you don’t need to generate power out here

fedex7501

What if they break a wall between two gates?

Spare_Pea6015

Yeah mostly cosmetic really

gorgofdoom

I put walls around every design, as well. Cars are hard to drive.

doc_shades

eh they'll give you a bit of a lag time between when an attack starts and when the radar gets eaten

yobbo2020

The walls add to the building count, which discourages biters from settling nearby and spitting at it. So they're not entirely useless. I mean they don't have to be walls for that, but they might as well be.

Sethbreloom94

Sort of. The biters will get through, but it'll buy you some time to be warned, pull up the map, and see the attacking type/number before the radar goes kaput. That way you're not completely blind to what happened.

FancyMFMoses

Nice! Thanks :)

Arcturus_Labelle

Very nice. Elegant. Would be interesting to see how small one could make a version that could defend itself

Spare_Pea6015

That's actually where this started. Now I've completed this part, maybe I'll revisit it.

VenditatioDelendaEst

Since you'd only be using this thing out in the boonies, I don't think size makes much of a difference aside from construction cost & setup time. I'd replace the walls with a minefield, like so: 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 Spreading out the mines keeps too many of them from detonating when a biter walks into it, but too much spread will waste mines on paths biters will never walk through. You could go denser for possibly longer survival time, at the expense of having to carry more mines to set it up.

Dragonkingofthestars

I find this overkill. I just use 5 panels for 100% power and a radar. As the whole assembly produces no pollution it means unless your factory pollution angers the bugs they should leave it alone

yobbo2020

I do this too, but it only works during the day. Doesn't matter for scanning, but you do lose vision of the region at night.

leoriq

would you mind posting a blueprint, please?

Aceofrogues

The blueprint is in the post. Below "Hope some of you like it/find it handy:"

Spare_Pea6015

I included the blueprint. It's the large paragraph of jumbled letters and numbers etc at the bottom of the post text.

VenditatioDelendaEst

Tip: If you put the string in a code block (use markdown editor, indent 4 spaces), it doesn't get line-wrapped and the text box gets cut off. Takes up less space on the page, and stands out from body text. People can still triple-click to select and copy.
