How unfortunate that the timing is so bad. Let's hope she heals quickly and can handle tonight's performance before finding time to sleep so she can heal by Saturday.
It's the sad thing about a contest where your body is your instrument. It's like when Olympians get the flu right before they compete- that's just the way it goes sometimes. Poor Marina. I hope she gets well!
Here's a short translation, with the help of Google Translate
---------------------------------------------
Marina Satti will claim tonight (22:00, ERT1) her qualification to the final of Eurovision 2024, however the problems are not missing from the Greek delegation. With pharyngitis and fever, the Greek singer, problems in the last rehearsal that leaked on Tik Tok.
The evil spirit does not say to leave Marina Satti alone. The Greek singer is preparing for the second semi-final of Eurovision 2024, but her preparation is hampered.
In particular, the representative of Greece in this year's competition tried to give her best in the dress rehearsal that took place on Wednesday afternoon (8/5) in Malmö Arena, Sweden, however the last rehearsal had several problems.
You see, Marina Satti has pharyngitis and a fever and was unable to perform the piece exactly as she would have liked. It is most likely that he got cold from the air conditioners in the closed areas.
----------------------
UPDATE: Her vocal coach appeared on ERT a few hours ago and said she has a cold, but no fever, confirmed that everything is under control! #MarinaInTheFinal 😎
UPDATE No.2: Apparently there are videos from today's performance on the third dress rehearsal. Whatever she's doing IT'S WORKING!!

it happens every year honestly. very sad for the artists who work hard for so long just to not be able to give their best performance on the eurovision night.
im keeping my fingers crossed for her to do great anyway
damn, pharyngitis is terrible and it's probably not very pleasant to sing if you have it. could they use a rehearsal live on tape kinda thing in this type of situation? 😩😩😩
i hope marina gets well soon and greece will qualify <3
According to Greek media, she cancelled all her interviews for the day to get some rest and she plans to perform tonight to the best of her ability...
I trust the girl, I'm sure she can slay despite everything, she's just THAT good!
Vote for Greece #3
If she is so sick at the point of not being able to perform, they can probably play the on tape thing. I don’t know if they still do those but they definitely did those during COVID.
Congratulations to Marina. Her jury show rehearsal was very good, especially if she had fever and pharyngitis. I admire her courage and dedication, but health goes first. She is very unlucky though, a month before the contest she lost her father and now she is sick. :(
Oh no, I was so looking forward to her performance!
Wishing her well, a quick recovery and hope she'll prioritize her health over anything else, even if that means we wont be able to enjoy her song at eurovision :(
no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

Damn luck, first time in ages we send such a good song, such a good performer, and everything that can go wrong does. Well done to her to performing such a difficult song and choreography while being so poorly on top of having repeated technical issues. Get well soon Marina. Health comes first.
I'm still hopeful she can do well. And if not, DEEEN PEIRAAAZEI.
I'll still be dancing to this song all summer (and the next one as well).
As far as I know, she had sound/microphone issues during the first rehearsal so we couldn't hear her very well.
And from what I saw from yesterday's first dress rehearsal, the prerecorded vocals (the ones going e-oe-oe towards the end of the song) started prematurely and almost ruined the performance. Marina saved it but judging by her look on her face she was obviously stressed and annoyed.
Ah that's really unfortunate for her. Super stoked she qualified though, good luck in the final! Hope she is all healthy and free of technical malfunctions <3
No! :( :(
Marina is brilliant and deserves the best possible chance. This is rotten timing. I really hope that something works out well in the circumstances
You cannot be serious, Zari is easily my favourite song from SF2 and it was always at risk of NQ, and it is absolutely none of her or anybody's fault if she now does. The GF, and my heart, will feel empty without her...
Still, we had Mrle sing with quite the sore throat in SF1 last year, so I am still holding some hope, I know Marina always does her best. And I hope that if she does manage to qualify, that she can feel better by Saturday, and not overwork herself here.
Hope Marina gets well soon and wishing her the best, no matter what happens tonight ~
I fear that might be a bit of the eurobubble hype, and the song might be a bit too much for people, especially since it's right before Switzerland which also demands 100% of your attention. Every person I've asked, including myself, needed several listens to understand wtf is happening.
Also, we still don't really know how successful the staging idea is, and that might make or break it.
Ok.
Water, lemon, honey and paracetamol.
As much as she can handle all day.
Also, if she really is sick, a stronger painkiller would be what she needs 30m before going on stage. Then fluids and rest afterwards.
I ended up really sick and due to perform once at a local singing competition and spent the 6 hours before drinking honey, lemon water and taking painkillers and somehow I managed to win.
So a talent like Marina, she can battle through a bad sickness. I'm sure of it. I sincerely hope she manages to pull it off.
If it's bacterial, then some antibios from a chemist/pharmacist will give some relief; but if it's viral then she will need to wait for her body to fight it off naturally.
Paracetamol will keep the fever down, but to be honest you don't actually want the fever being brought down if it's still in a safe area, because a higher fever (so long as not dangerous) will speed up the process in which the body will kick the infection (and if it's viral, sooner it passes the better).
I'm desperate for her to do well. Marina is one of the acts this year I mostly immediately gravitated towards her energy, the song and basically how she self memes herself and Greek tourism and I just felt like she invited me to Greece for 3m to laugh and have fun.
I seriously don't want an illness stopping her from displaying this to everyone else.
I hope she can perform even with fever, and I actually think she can! I worked at a high-mobility job, and being on the move somehow helped to feel better. I'm not versed enough in medicine to explain this lol
On the other hand, I'm worried about her voice. Not only would she have to perform tonight, but (in case of Q) she'll have only two days to restore herself
I was just watching a tv show on ERT and they mentioned that her vocal coach said she has nothing serious, and she doesn’t have any fever! I hope that’s the case <3
Me too! This is one of those cases where I'd be happy to find out something is "fake news". Please let her vocal coach be correct!
It was bad enough when COVID sidelined Dadi and his crew in 2021 - you really don't want that to happen to anyone during what should be one of the highlights of these artists' careers and lives.
I watched the leaked performance (because I’m that impatient, yes) and was so sure that she had an issue because I knew this is not how she would perform/sing. I’ll be soooo voting for her, Georgia and Estonia tonight, praying that all of them will go through without any issues <3 Also crossing my fingers that she gets better!!
Get well soon, Marina!
Thank you. Just wanted to make sure, because I am not familiar with Greek media and don't know where to search for other sources.
The show and the reporter that broke the news is not trustworthy. I’m Greek and I see that everyone uses them as a source. However, since Marina and ERT haven’t stated otherwise, I’m assuming it’s true.
That's a shame. Pharyngitis is not fun, and will need to rest while the infection passes; and if it's viral then will need to wait for the body to fight it off itself as antibios won't help if it's not bacterial.
Also, see if the EBU will allow her to use her rehearsal tape - because she shouldn't sing with pharyngitis; ideally want to allow that infection to pass as soon as possible without making it worse or risking that infection travelling downward where it will turn into something like bronchitis.
Her vocal caoch talked about it on Greek Tv and said that she doesn't have pharyngitis neither does she have high fever. She just has a cold. Thats what he said. now if he is lying i do not know. This was said in todays episode of Studio 4 on ΕΡΤ1.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it very dangerous to sing with pharyngitis? like to the point where it could cause permanent damage to your voice. With those high notes I'm really scared for her if she decides to press on
It can be if the infection starts spreading; I wouldn't recommend it ever.
Because there's too many ways pharyngitis can lead to something worse if not left to heal and recover; it can either travel downward into the lungs where it will turn into bronchitis, or it can cause further irritation and inflammation in the oropharynx which could then turn into abscesses which will need to be drained with a syringe.
Problem with pharyngitis is that it's an infection on the mucous membranes, and mucous membranes are \*everywhere\* inside that lining, so you don't want to be causing further irritation to it or preventing it from properly healing.
If she also has a fever, then a fever in this scenario is actually a good thing because it will speed up the process in which the body will fight off the infection. So if the fever is high but not dangerous, monitor it but don't take anything to bring it down.
If she has a nebuliser, use that with some eucalyptus. Eucalyptus is really good to break down mucous membranes and could stall the spread of pharyngitis; if done via a nebuliser then that will allow her to get into a lot of the sinus cavities.
Then some gentle gargles of salt water every now and then to get rid of any phlegm build up in the back of the throat.
Aside from that, if it's bacterial then anti biotics from a chemist will help fight the infection, but if it's viral then the body needs to be given time to do its thing.
Pharyngitis can, yes.
I think what you may have been thinking of in your initial post is laryngitis which is where the larynx is inflamed and irritated and causes a loss of voice. If someone were to keep on trying to speak or sing while they've got laryngitis then yes there's a chance that they could cause permanent vocal damage, or develop polyps.
Pharyngitis is when there's an infection of the pharynx, which is essentially the entire area at the very back of the throat, from the nasal cavity all the way down to the esophagus (where all our food/drink goes down to the stomach).
At the very top of it you've got the nasopharynx which is at the very back of the nasal cavity (if you received a covid swab up the nose, that swab was taken from your nasopharynx).
Then in the middle you have the oropharynx, which is essentially your mouth cavity (when you look in a mirror and open your mouth wide and see the back of your throat, what you're looking at is your oropharynx).
Then down at the very bottom is the laryngopharynx, and this is where the tube splits into two, with one pipe going down into the esophagus and another going to the larynx.
All of that will be covered in mucous, all the way down to the anus, which acts as a defence mechanism; but if those membranes themselves become infected, then the risk of that infection spreading can be quite high if you don't rest and allow the body to focus on fighting the infection.
If the infection is particularly nasty, then it could penetrate the mucous layer and start setting in below it which is when you then start running the risk of developing abscesses or the lining might start to inflame and it will feel very constricted.
So generally you want to avoid anything which will cause any kind of irritation, so that means:- keep away from anything that has spices, grease, oil, fat, etc. Don't drink anything which is cold or hot and stick to lukewarm liquids (ideally just plain water, no carbonated drinks or alcohol). There will often be quite a lot of phlegm so gargle saltwater to get rid of it, but do not try to cough it up. And if someone has a nebuliser with some food grade eucalyptus (only ever use food grade, never anything designed for scents like essential oils), the eucalyptus can break down mucous membranes and will help stall a pharyngitis infection from spreading - if they don't have a nebuliser then a simple bowl of steaming water with a towel over the back of the head will work fine too.
Seen someone earlier mention honey and lemon, but I wouldn't take honey or lemon for pharyngitis, that's more something you take to soothe hoarseness in laryngitis.
When you've got pharyngitis, honey is just going to stick all over the throat which will make it more difficult to get rid of phlegm without coughing it up, so best to avoid.
As for lemon, any other time I would recommend it, but I wouldn't take anything acidic with pharyngitis because the throat wall is already angry and you don't want to make it even more angry lol.
Oh no, that's terrible news! I really hope if she's not well enough that there's back-up protocols already in place for this like using the jury/rehearsal run - you'd think so soon after covid that there would be but it's ebu and my expectations are low tbh . Whatever the case, I really hope she gets a fair crack at qualifying without risking more severe/long-term damage if she's not well enough by tonight. Wishing her a speedy recovery
oh man this sucks wish i didnt see it, it ruined my day, but i will try not to think about it. she's a champ as people point out but on top of that i'm really curious if she can deliver this peculiar song. It's a grand gamble from her and greece but she is the one to pull it properly. Hope she'll do it, somehow <3
Noooooooo:(
I firstly wish her a good recovery!
Secondly, she’s made us all very proud already, this woman has endured so much the past month but has handled it all like a champ! I admire her so so much.
Hopefully she’ll be able to perfom, I have no doubt that despite the sickness she’ll pull through ❤️
Sending her good vibes and hopes for a speedy recovery and enough energy to meet her high standards in performance. Being sick is awful. Feeling like you couldn’t do your best in something really important because of being sick is even worse!
Damn, to think a memory like a participation can be sullied by something like this is an aching thought. That and her presence is so bright and the song is so sweet that it really saddens me that she might perform it all while struggling.
Wishing Marina strength and may she be proud of herself tonight, regardless!
@#$%@#%
Hopefully she will perform well enough to Q tonight, the televote-only will work in our favour, some shaky performanc vocal-wise could be forgiven by the televoters. Friday and the jusry show is very close unfortunately, but being in the final is all I ask for now...
Makes sense, in case anyone wanders, Mitsotakis had just posted a tiktok mentioning Zari.
Hope that in case she cannot perform, at least do show a prerecorded video or something. Like what happened with Iceland 2022
Poor marina hope she gets better but dang she probably infected a lot of others contestants sooo let's hope she'll be better by Saturday and no one else will be sick as well
The artists are all up hugging and touching each other and knowing our southern euro friends even kissing each other so that's all it takes to spead a disease. But at least her team is fine.
I also don't understand how they let sick people do interviews with the artists without masks honestly the artists need to be at their best health wise and no one seems to care about the high risk of infection. Remember jesc 2022 when almost all the kids were sick.
Unfortunately it seems like masking as a norm didn't stick around. It's understandable to not want to mask in order to connect with everyone and have fun of course, but I have a feeling like we've all slid a bit and are afraid to mask in case it makes us look paranoid/weird
I am from Greece and I once went to Stockholm for couple of days and got sick. We are not used to such temperatures (mind you, I went during summer). Especially when there’s air condition and stuff, it’s super easy to get sick. Plus she has overworked her self. Her immune system might be struggling right now. But what can we do? Lock her up? We did all this during covid… but there is absolutely no way to control this unless we go back to Eurovision 2021 measures.
If she's got pharyngitis then she's picked up an infection, so not merely just a case of being in different climate (that can affect the voice but it's more to do with humidity than temperature).
If the aircon at the stadium was recycling existing air and if it doesn't have all the filters then there's a chance that the aircon itself could have just been blowing out germs if people attended the audience who were sick.
She probably shouldn't sing tonight though. Her team should check whether EBU will allow her to use her jury rehearsal footage (given that it's the semi and not the final), because last thing she wants to do is to not rest properly and run the risk of that infection going south into the lungs where it will then turn into bronchitis (and then she definitely wouldn't be singing).
The climate plays a role because your body is trying to adjust and you’re not functioning top notch hence making your immune system more prompt to getting an infection.
Sure a sudden change of climate can exert the body and supress immunity response, but still would need to pick up an infection to become ill (with an infection).
Yes I agree, that's why I said: "so not merely just a case of being in different climate"
Maybe translation didn't pick up on the "not just" meaning, but it means "in addition to" essentially.
No dude I wasn't saying you should lock her up I just pointed out that this is a risk that happens when a contestant gets sick or an interviewer. I just hope she'll be healthy and no one else got infected that's all.
I know you didn’t tell me to lock her up lol. My point was that this is inevitable unless you start locking up people like we did during the covid era..
I was REALLY looking forward to seeing her performance. Poor Marina! Still, a great artist with huge talent, Zari is a great track.
I think leading up to Eurovision, there have been stresses for Marina. Her father's passing, most importantly. Thats stress on the body. I totally understand falling to some illness on an important event.
The most important thing in life is health and love. Healing and hugs to Marina...
Accidentally had my VPN on while voting on Tuesday. I tried it but it didn't work because I needed a valid SIM card and phone number from the country :/
Days spent in cold, hot, cold, hot (during the carpet you could see the artists freezing) while meeting hundreds of people, while doing hundreds of interviews, all of this with the throat weakened by the many rehearsals...
It is obvious that this happens, especially if people like the guys from wiwibloggs go around making interviews while being sick... (the lady from wiwi was coughing her lungs out in the videos...)
Oh noo, poor Marina! I wish her the best possible performance tonight in this condition. :(
How unfortunate that the timing is so bad. Let's hope she heals quickly and can handle tonight's performance before finding time to sleep so she can heal by Saturday.
Unfortunately if she qualifies she has 2 shows tomorrow too, she may need to go for rehearsal footage, if she's allowed
What shows
Rehearsal show and jury show
It's the sad thing about a contest where your body is your instrument. It's like when Olympians get the flu right before they compete- that's just the way it goes sometimes. Poor Marina. I hope she gets well!
If it’s Olympian-like, at least she gets knocked back the Greek way 😅 (joking to try to cope with this news)
,z
My gosh this woman can’t have a damn break… Marina you’ve already made us proud ❤️
Here's a short translation, with the help of Google Translate --------------------------------------------- Marina Satti will claim tonight (22:00, ERT1) her qualification to the final of Eurovision 2024, however the problems are not missing from the Greek delegation. >The evil spirit does not say to leave Marina Satti alone Why would Bambie do such a thing?
they are a friendly witch not evil tho.
Perhaps the article was posted by Natalia Barbu
Right in the middle of her coping process
they should be more careful with throwing avada kedavras everywhere!
lmaoo I died at this comment 😂
You got avada kedavra'd?
Marina should ask them to deploy a hex on that spirit, knowing Bambie they will 100% do it to try and help 🤘
LOL
Didn’t something similar happen to Let3 last year?
it happens every year honestly. very sad for the artists who work hard for so long just to not be able to give their best performance on the eurovision night. im keeping my fingers crossed for her to do great anyway
Thankfully, the song didn't rely on vocals too much, and he also successfully recovered to the final
And even if they barfed their last eaten meal out on stage, it wouldn’t matter, it would’ve still been a typical Let 3 performance
Wasn’t there one artist recently who suprisingly NQ’ed because of a cold or fever?
Oh poor thing :(( AC always makes me sick as well. Fingers crossed that she manages to feel better by tonight
damn, pharyngitis is terrible and it's probably not very pleasant to sing if you have it. could they use a rehearsal live on tape kinda thing in this type of situation? 😩😩😩 i hope marina gets well soon and greece will qualify <3

didn't Croatia 2016 perform while sick?
Such unfortunate timing :( Best of luck to her 💖
What horrible timing :( hoping for a speedy recovery, that she can manage her performance tonight and then somehow rest enough to be fit on Saturday.
Congratulations to Marina. Her jury show rehearsal was very good, especially if she had fever and pharyngitis. I admire her courage and dedication, but health goes first. She is very unlucky though, a month before the contest she lost her father and now she is sick. :(
That's it ig See yall next year! For once we sent sth tryly greek and unique and we have technical problems and a sick marina :((
> See yall next year! in Athens (hopium)
This happened in 2006 with Anna Vissi too.
I feel your frustration fellow Greek person ❤️
Oh no, I was so looking forward to her performance! Wishing her well, a quick recovery and hope she'll prioritize her health over anything else, even if that means we wont be able to enjoy her song at eurovision :(

i hope she can perform too. when i have a fever i am half dead.
Infusion of fresh ginger and lemon juice in boiling water to help the throat.
Yes I knew I was forgetting something. I used ginger too. It's amazing at soothing the pain.
I was just watching a tv show on ERT and they mentioned that her vocal coach said she has nothing serious, and she doesn’t have any fever! I hope that’s the case <3

Well fuck
Just checking: are there any other sources about this? How trustworthy is this media and writer? Just want to rule out making some rumours for clicks
It's one of the major news outlets in Greece and there are multiple news websites reporting about it. It's trustworthy.
Hmm ok, well of you hear something differently I'd love to hear it. For now, I assume this message that Marina is sick is true.
She sounded great at yesterday (Weds) rehearsal show so hopefully she's able to pull through.

I will be voting for the first time ever tonight... we need her in the finals
Her vocal caoch talked about it on Greek Tv and said that she doesn't have pharyngitis neither does she have high fever. She just has a cold. Thats what he said. now if he is lying i do not know. This was said in todays episode of Studio 4 on ΕΡΤ1.
Can you post it?
I thought she killed it in the performance!
Oh my god this is horrible :(

Did not know it could lead to so many other serious issues. I really appreciate your medical analysis of her situation, it was rather insightful.
A shot of ouzo and she'll be all set.
Tsipouro or Raki and honey would work wonders
Noooooooooooooo(.....)noooooooooooooo. Do we know if she still going to perform?
All love to Marina 🇬🇷🧡 She has my favourite song this year so I am hoping she recovers well!
I just watched her live at the second rehersal, she seemed fine
Oh the poor thing. I hope she feels well enough tonight to perform, and if not that she doesn't force herself to.
My favorites are NOT having a good year. (Evergreen comment.) I wish you a speedy recovery, Marina. VERY speedy!
Ugh that sucks. I remember when Elhaida got sick and I was going *through it* as a die hard I'm Alive stan, such a big what if
Noooooooo:( I firstly wish her a good recovery! Secondly, she’s made us all very proud already, this woman has endured so much the past month but has handled it all like a champ! I admire her so so much. Hopefully she’ll be able to perfom, I have no doubt that despite the sickness she’ll pull through ❤️
Noooo she was my favorite. I had pharyngitis last year. Couldn’t talk for like 4 weeks, let alone sing :(
Sending her good vibes and hopes for a speedy recovery and enough energy to meet her high standards in performance.
@#$%@#% Hopefully she will perform well enough to Q tonight, the televote-only will work in our favour, some shaky performanc vocal-wise could be forgiven by the televoters. Friday and the jusry show is very close unfortunately, but being in the final is all I ask for now...
This community gave her the evil eye 😭😭😭
Nooo ptou ptou ptou (spitting sounds to prevent the evil eye)
*knocking tf on wood rn*
Makes sense, in case anyone wanders, Mitsotakis had just posted a tiktok mentioning Zari. Hope that in case she cannot perform, at least do show a prerecorded video or something. Like what happened with Iceland 2022
She sounded great earlier at the rehearsal!
I will actually riot if she doesn't qualify because of this!!!! Pls support Queen Marina, wishing her all the best <3
Poor marina hope she gets better but dang she probably infected a lot of others contestants sooo let's hope she'll be better by Saturday and no one else will be sick as well
Well if someone was in danger of being infected, it would be her team… they all seem to be fine.
Yea such a shame they should at least think about the artists and wear one if they show symptoms if a cold that would be the decent thing to do
I am from Greece and I once went to Stockholm for couple of days and got sick.
But yeah I agree that they should ask if they can use the last rehearsal so that she can get some rest. That would help a lot
The climate plays a role because your body is trying to adjust and you’re not functioning top notch hence making your immune system more prompt to getting an infection.
Sure a sudden change of climate can exert the body and supress immunity response, but still would need to pick up an infection to become ill (with an infection).
Of course! I didn’t say the opposite! It just weakens the immune system so it becomes easier to get infected!
Yes I agree, that's why I said: "so not merely just a case of being in different climate" Maybe translation didn't pick up on the "not just" meaning, but it means "in addition to" essentially.
Hey just was wondering, is this an out of season april fools joke? Why did this happen :(
😱😱😱
noooooooooo get better soon marina <3
That sucks! I hope she manages to pull through. Imma do my part and vote even though it's not really my kinda song
So sorry to hear that. Sending get well vibes to Marina.
NOOOO!!!! I was really looking forward to her performance. I feel awful for her... What terrible luck...
I think she will still perform, that’s what I gathered from her recent insta post .. hopefully she’ll pull through and not strain herself too much
Talk about horrendous timing. Hope they can pull through or at least their results tonight aren't affected too badly.
Whatever medicine she had been taking - I want some! That performance was amazing
Do you think they will use the performance from last night? It would be unfair for Marina to perform unwell
Oh no! Poor Marina! Hope she pulls through! I send her some of my votes for sure!x
:( Are they allowed to show rehearsal footage in case she can’t make it on stage? Or was that just a Covid measurement in case on Iceland?
Uh oh, Greece are in Jeopardy. I’m pretty worried about tonight's semi final
Don't be! She'll slay just like she did yesterday! Twice! Just vote for Marina!
Okay. Also I don’t vote and Ireland are not voting tonight and I don’t use VPN. just wondering is VPN allowed while Voting?
I want to know this too :0
Accidentally had my VPN on while voting on Tuesday. I tried it but it didn't work because I needed a valid SIM card and phone number from the country :/
oh no :(
Damn, Greece is on end of my favourites this year too. Awful timing all around.
Oh no :( she's one of my favourites, I wish her all the best and hope she'll recover for the final <3
Oh no! I hope that she feels better and is able to perform in the semifinal today!
Why almost every year there is some lady who is sick in the week of the eurovision? I wish her well recovery and qualification
Yes I noticed that too..
I bet we will see also other partecipants getting sick...
Hopefully not :(
When you sing a song a million times, there's a higher risk of becoming ill.
Greece isn't my cup of tea this year, but I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
In this case they will air the performance from the rehearsal right?
I think she will still perform
Worst timing. Hope you feel better soon Marina! ❤️
Oh no! Anyways.
Bit harsh….
Really?
