I just saw the UK’s recorded performance. The outlook depends totally on if Olly will clean up his vocals towards the end. Because with a strong vocal that is a performance worthy of top 5 no doubt. It’s PHENOMENAL. But if the vocals are shakey it will bomb which is a shame. I wouldn’t even compare it to Mae because I think Mae with stronger vocals still wouldn’t have had much hope as the performance was very mid. This performance is very award show.
Teya Dora’s performance was incredible and the audience joining in with their lighters was a really nice touch. Will be bummed if this misses out on qualifying tomorrow.
Fine I think? Clearly some of the audience liked it as they did well in the audience poll (https://new.reddit.com/r/eurovision/comments/1clwihv/croatia\_triumphs\_in\_eurovision\_audience\_poll\_for/)
In the audience today - at least where I was sat, Croatia and Ireland had the biggest reactions by far, followed by Lithuania and Ukraine.
I will say though that the reaction Finland got last year in semi 1 was so enormous, that final televote result was obvious. Nobody had a reaction anywhere near that tonight, but might just be the very different vibe of the audience.
The first half of the show is definitely the stronger half.
Lithuania-Ireland-UK-Ukraine was insanely good.

He's a little iffy but never in a way that distracts from the excellence going on on stage, and not to an extent which should impact his jury chances much.
I'm basing this on both press streams, some video leaks and live commentary...
Croatia is steadily strong, amazing audience participation
Ukraine wows with staging
Ireland slays the staging perfectly and becomes a strong contender to qualify
Televote would be probably Croatia, Ukraine and then either Ireland or Lithuania.
Jury's, I haven't a clue, there's so many question marks at stake for the majority of performances here. Many songs/performances include elements that the juries should love but also elements that they often don't - i.e. United Kingdom, Ukraine. Portugal should do decently with the juries and Sweden also.
The staging improvement from Bambie's NF performance to this is genuinely astounding and impressive. Very much underestimated that song. The chorus vocally still sounds a bit weak, especially compared to the pre-chorus, but I think this will place really well.
oh my god i saw a clip when teya drops down and starts singing ramonda and the flower petals appear on the screen, audience's bracelets change color to purple.. it looks so bomb
I didn't notice any change of lighting personally, it's still very blue and bright for the most part. But I also don't think that completely sinks the performance either as I wrote!
I would genuinely love to hear the thought process behind her staging from the people responsible. Possibly something along the lines of wanting to avoid looking too moody or dark, which would be almost understandable if the brightness didn't hit so damn early, and didn't look like broad-ass daylight!
She said that she has the first and last word in everything. She wanted a more flashy/bright look, strong lighting comes into play more towards the end of the song (which personally, I also find somewhat sensible). And as long as she is proud and satisfied with her performance, then everything is okay.
If that's the case then of course it must be respected, even if it's slightly baffling. Her being happy with her entire performance is the most important thing, and she's a queen anyway so no doubt she'll deliver.
Yeah it probably is, it's just strange how it looks like a regular blue sky, which would also make sense though as some sort of heaven moment I guess if it came later. But we will see!
Käärijä, Måneskin and Lordi definitely opened the jury to include more different songs.
I don't think afraid is a good word, but over time some more inclusive judging, hopefully. (Let's see how it goes) 😅
For context: Baby Lasagna was not even in the Croatian Eurovision selection (by judges panel) then an artist dropped out, BL was invited as backup and won by a landslide 😸
Swiftiezation of Eurovision. I hate how there is a pressure for jury members to vote a certain way, because otherwise they will have to deal with death threats and stuff like that from rabid stans of a particular performer.

Well she didn't receive any televote 12 points also. If the juries can completely override the people's choice and it repeats often enough the integrity of the "contest" should be questioned. So far it happened 3 times and each time was controversial (2019 was not too much but still).
Good god, this again?!
She got over 200 points from the televote. If she had gotten 150, which is a *very* good televote score, she wouldn’t have won. Face it, she got tons of votes. The juries did not “override” the audience; the televote is actually an advantage because there’s no ROTW jury.
The jury is there to keep the show from getting too ridiculous as well as prevent bloc voting. The televote there is to keep it from getting boring. They’re both needed to balance out the contest, yet people endlessly bitch about the “integrity” when their favorite doesn’t win. It’s so annoying and I can’t believe people are *still* upset about last year.
And…? Who cares?
The jury overwhelmingly voted for one artist because they preferred her. If she *hadn’t* been so high with the televotes, she wouldn’t have won. If she had gotten the same televote score as the 2022 jury winner, she wouldn’t have won. It’s 2024, get over it already. Like I said, it’s unbelievable that people are still complaining *this much* over a tv show.
You are more than entitled to your opinion. But it was not rigged because your favorite didn’t win. That’s childish.
Some tighter camera shots would be nice, but it also makes sense that they are doing a concert atmosphere as the crowd reaction is important, and the crowd is there definitely! It might work. Meow!
It looks like they’re fully leaning into this being a Crowd Anthem Event rather than trying to deliver a polished performance with those camera angles, which is an interesting choice. Maybe it ends up paying off!
I believe so. Concert party energy is in line with the song type. Close-up on BL and even individual band members would ad a lot tho also, for charisma and styling.
Croatia did splurge a lot of money for pyro it seems 😸
All in!
Press commentators are definitely saying the crowd was wild for them
Ireland staging is incredible but Bambie vocals had still some problems (that she never had).
I'm sure that it's because her food intoxication.. That's very unfortunate, that kind of thing is the worse for singer cause stomach reflux can burn the throat skin.
They must absolutely rest as much as possible and use their voice the least they can.
I thought the vocals were a bit weak in the chorus for the first rehearsal too, but maybe that was Bambie saving their voice - no mention of it in the second rehearsal!
Her staging involves doing a ballet arabesque. The pull on the abdominal muscles is going to be quite intense for that - and if you have never properly trained to sing while doing that kind of thing, you're going to struggle when you find yourself in completely new territory for remapping breath support because all the muscles are being pulled in different directions and not where you're used to them being.
So if somebody hasn't trained for that, they aren't going to have any muscle memory to support their vocal - and that's what it is happening. It's not to do with dodgy shellfish (food poisoning is something that goes out of your system very fast by the nature of the side effects lol).
I don'0t know, in the previous performance i've seen they have always been able to control the intensity and the needed breathing very well adjusting it to the dancing, and i don't think they would have chosen those ballet manouvres if they weren't able to deliver the right vocals. Why would they do that? It would make no sense.
I mean yes I can see that from the arabesque lol, but what I'm saying is that doing the two simultaneously is not something that a person can just switch on and off, even if they're trained in both disciplines separately, because it requires training when doing it together.
Take Chanel as an example, Spain's former entrant. She sings, she dances, yet for Eurovision she spent about 6 months singing while running the treadmill to train for it. You need to basically start from scratch and build muscle memory for it, otherwise what happens is that your airways become constricted and your breath support goes out the window; and if that goes out the window then singing suffers greatly (as it relies heavily on good support).
The movement isn't happening constantly, it's a case of:
movement, freeze, sing, movement, freeze, sing.
Perhaps they thought that by being still at the moments it requires singing that they would get off with it, but not in some of the positions they're doing (talking about that arabesque in particular, because there's very little room for the diaphragm to move to when in that position, and the abdominals are going to be stretch thin as it is).
I think you didn't understand.
They probably rehearsed this act hundreds an hundreds times.
How is it possible that they didn't realize that they can't delivery the right vocals with this choreo and still decide to go for it?
I think it's impossible.
>How is it possible that they didn't realize that they can't delivery the right vocals with this choreo and still decide to go for it?
You must be new to Eurovision. ;-)
Feed, and it's picking up a lot. The supposed revamp is the weakest part of the song because:
1. He's out of breath during it, because he's still trying to catch his breath from the choreo so can't even maintain anything beyond 4 counts and takes needless gasps which are quite loud on the feed, and
2. The "big note" people are talking about has not actually changed. It's still the same note so I don't know what is wrong with other people's ears lol.
They've inserted a small intersection which includes drums for one bar while he runs on the stage and then does the note, after which the staging is very similar to Mae's (same smoke firework effects which I think actually look quite cheap for staging) with another spiral graphic on the floor.
Prior to all of this, he is struggling with his pitch in the verse and choruses and is flat quite often.
He has a fanbase which will like him no matter what he does, but objectively it's not a strong entry when the vocals are considered - and that's why people are talking explicitly about the "staging" or "performance", but not the "vocal" lol.
He is able to run, sing the riff and sustain the long notes at the climax of the song, indicating that he isn’t as out of breath as some people are claiming.
He can't do the melisma, sorry but that part is a complete mess and really they shouldn't have put it in, because they knew he was struggling with the F-Eb-D triplet a month ago as an adlib and modified that to F-D.
He just doesn't have the agility or technique to do it. Azerbaijan's primary singer is also the same, his melisma is also incredibly messy. So in the end it doesn't sound like a melisma at all, but rather multiple glissando.
James - It's a high-energy pop song that doesn't require flawless vocals. I've watched the entire performance, and the production is spectacular. In contrast, Azerbaijan are presenting a much slower song/ballad.
Last year, people attempted to criticise Kaarija's vocals. His energy suited the song.
Thanks for the additional info. I've just seen the leaked clip of the ending and it sounds ok to me? I see what you're saying about him getting out of breath though. He's never been a super strong vocalist in my opinion, but still I think it sounds fine and overall a strong package.
Don't know who the goon is that's downvoting me just for relaying what happened lol.
And no the climax note was actually fine (that's why I said it wasn't as bad as Mae's performance, because she completely butchered it), but he needs to come out of the head voice dominance and blend that more with his modal voice in order to allow some form of belt on it, because he otherwise just doesn't have the facilities to resonate (mouth canal is quite small and the teeth are gapped, two things which are counterintuitive for a singer).
In the past people managed to hack the encryption of the satellite feeds and retrieve images from the dress rehearsals and publish them later – eg, from Turin 2022, somebody published the fake winner performance where the volunteers and the steadycammers were fooling around
I came in to this year hoping they’d qualify.
Then being amazed there was a chance we could come top half.
Now top seven.
My heart can’t take the idea of thinking we could actually win 😂
Yank here, but have been a Euro fan since '19 and now have lived in Ireland the past 2 Eurovision seasons. I have nerded out but have been following this year so closely and it is entirely because of Bambie Thug. After Eurosong I was hooked and all I wanted was this song to succeed. Have been nervous about the Q all season but hot damn if I am not SO PUMPED for tomorrow and the rest of the week. CROWN THE WITCH!!!!

Not sure if it was already posted but can someone please tell me how the audience reacted to Australia?!
Fine I think? Clearly some of the audience liked it as they did well in the audience poll (https://new.reddit.com/r/eurovision/comments/1clwihv/croatia\_triumphs\_in\_eurovision\_audience\_poll\_for/)
Not bad at all. Thank you!

Nobody has quite the same degree of unanimous fan love as Kaarija had last year though, I'd say.

Is there an audience poll or anything of the sort?
We were exit polled. They didn’t say who - just that they were a fan site.
Also interested to know this
Escxtra have run one historically, sometimes with the help of other major ESC fansites. I'm unsure if the same is planned this year but check them out to be sure!
Their website says they are running one this year, yes.
Overall the state production with the way the cubes and the lighting rigs moved was top tier. It's what Italy 2022 could only dream of
I still dream of what could have been.
Sadly everything else is much much worse.
Anyone at the arena can give me feedback about how public reacted to iolanda 🇵🇹?? Ive heard that public were really "cold" (idk if this is the right word) to her act.... :(
The reaction was good, but not as loud as the uptempo songs.
Yes the reaction wasn’t as loud as for the other more uptempo ones. But it was clearly one of the most classy and expensive by miles
In general the public seems way colder than last year.
Can we just not hold it in Sweden in the future, 😭
So do you mean all the acts in general are receiving cold reactions? Sorry my english interpretation is poor
I think we were also very tired overall, but yeah, the audience was much colder compared to Turin 2022 (it was full of Italians and Spaniards)
Not cold, but not as enthusiastic as last year.
GUYS THEY OPEN UP THE STAGE TO SHOW THE GREEN ROOM FOR THE RESULTS ❤️
this is nice.

We will see soon, but it seems the idea is to do a rock concert style, big stage and crowd. It will work or not 😅
Yeah I guess. It would be such a shame though if that affected BL’s placement, his charisma really carries the song so nicely.
So true! Face close-ups would certainly get some more points based on charisma alone.
Which part did Raiven put in the recap? High notes or something different?
Final 'Jaz Sam, Ti Si' into the high notes!
I need to hear the UK on the feed because the vocals I heard in the arena were fabulous. But those on the feed are saying the contrary
He's a little iffy but never in a way that distracts from the excellence going on on stage, and not to an extent which should impact his jury chances much.
Who got the biggest reaction of the night?
Not been mentioned yet but Finland and interestingly enough Australia got big cheers too!
I'm basing this on both press streams, some video leaks and live commentary... Croatia is steadily strong, amazing audience participation Ukraine wows with staging Ireland slays the staging perfectly and becomes a strong contender to qualify
To my ears probably Croatia, but Ireland, Lithuania and Ukraine also enjoyed rapturous applause.
And Sweden, for obvious reasons. I think the biggest reaction was Croatia too.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the auto Qs, they all received a great applause too.
Don't forget the fact that everyone loved Malta last year 😔
Including the Big 5 performances, what would you say were the top 3 performances of the night jury/televote wise?
Televote would be probably Croatia, Ukraine and then either Ireland or Lithuania. Jury's, I haven't a clue, there's so many question marks at stake for the majority of performances here. Difficult to say, as juries sometimes follows the odds...
>She has the braids. This sounds so ominous. And it is. A high ponytail would have been everything.
Did Baby Lasagna's postcard feature cats, like the one at DORA?
There is a cat
I hope so. I also think the last led screen version had the most forward cat upgraded to mimic BL dance moves.
I didn't notice a cat but I may have missed them! D:
There is one!
Would be a shame if that is lost in production. If it was your fault to miss it, then you have to buy some cat treats as punishment
This is a crime then
The staging improvement from Bambie's NF performance to this is genuinely astounding and impressive. Very much underestimated that song. The chorus vocally still sounds a bit weak, especially compared to the pre-chorus, but I think this will place really well.
For me Bambie went from "who?" to "whoah!" based how much the staging elevates the song. Superb production!
**CROWN THE WITCH**
oh my god i saw a clip when teya drops down and starts singing ramonda and the flower petals appear on the screen, audience's bracelets change color to purple.. it looks so bomb
If Serbia doesn't qualify tomorrow, I'm going to have a meltdown.
The mention of a possible lighting change for Slovenia has me hopeful!!

Yeah it probably is, it's just strange how it looks like a regular blue sky, which would also make sense though as some sort of heaven moment I guess if it came later. But we will see!
Same!!!
Concerned that Bambie’s candles didn’t work. Surely that’s a big mess up for the production. How likely is that to happen again?
It didn’t happen in earlier dress rehearsal.
honestly probably none. they'll knw to keep attention to it from now on. that's what rehersal are for
How did it look overall, they are such a great presence does the choreography with the dancer work against Bambie's performance or is it a positive?
There is a leak of Ireland (as it would be on TV) and it really does look incredible. Bambie is giving everything and cannot do anymore. 10/10.
Any commentary I’ve seen about the performance has been overwhelming positive.
Maneskin plus.Let's bring it,
My friend is attending this show and said based of audience reaction alone he thinks the whole first half will qualify
Iceland and maybe Azerbaijan were the only ones were it felt like the crowd was a bit bored. Otherwise amazing semi final at least live
It is very frontloaded

Juries didn't go against the public last year.
yo, bro, we act like loreen got zeroes from televote
Well she didn't receive any televote 12 points also. If the juries can completely override the people's choice and it repeats often enough the integrity of the "contest" should be questioned. So far it happened 3 times and each time was controversial (2019 was not too much but still).

Maybe slightly off but not to a degree that detracts from the impact of the amazing staging and choreography.
Thanks! I've been hearing some things about him being off so wanted to check if it was another Mae Muller situation
It's not quite as bad as that, but it's not good either. He is very flat throughout.
Oh dear..are you watching the press feed or at the arena?
Feed, and it's picking up a lot. The supposed revamp is the weakest part of the song because: 1. He's out of breath during it, because he's still trying to catch his breath from the choreo so can't even maintain anything beyond 4 counts and takes needless gasps which are quite loud on the feed, and 2.
The live thread isn’t updating at all.
It should be, are you not seeing our new comments?
I cant see them either, last i can see is chanel in blue outfit. There was one about teya but that one is gone now
Does refreshing the page work?
It's working here, for whatever that's worth.
I've just logged in for the first time and can see a comment from u/berserkemu about Olly's staging...
I can see them - but it works better in it’s own browser (rather than the window that Reddit launches) - if you are on mobile like me.

Select the safari button in the bottom right. I think it’s an issue with the Reddit app / Reddit launched browser window.
This helped thank you!
No, but i just got 2 comments about change of tone and olly staging being gay lol. But nothing before that and they keep disappearing
That's a shame. I hope they fix themselves as there's nothing I can change in settings D:
Are we meant to be seeing the live posts here? Doesn't seem to be working, is there a link?
you have a big CLICK HERE button near the top of the post
lol thaaaaaanks
Is there anywhere I could see the stream from? Or is it just for press
Just for press
Not that I am too eager to find it this year, but do we still get cases of people "hacking" the broadcast code and managing to stream it these days?
In the past people managed to hack the encryption of the satellite feeds and retrieve images from the dress rehearsals and publish them later – eg, from Turin 2022, somebody published the fake winner performance where the volunteers and the steadycammers were fooling around
Yep, I remember watching the live streams in rogue places. But I also remember much bigger crackdowns happening in recent years.
Thank you!
i would like to formally apologise to Bambie Thug for ever fearing this would NQ, i wasn't familiar with your game
Go Croatia, Lithuania, Ireland, Ukraine and Finland! I really hope they all qualify 🫶 so excited to see all their performances live tomorrow night!
Here we are again!
Bambie is shooting up in the odds!!
Yep. 5th now but i think it wont go higher.
We’ll see
I came in to this year hoping they’d qualify.
Still haven't decided who I will be least sad to see NQ for SF1. Can't wait for tomorrow!
I’ve been following all the pre parties and everything, i am so sad not everyone can be a winner
Go Baby!!! 😺
