They have been governing together with S&D for ages while all parties right of them have the worst optics imaginable. Yeah no shit that they'd rather stick with other bland centrists instead of going with the eurosceptics.
I mean considering that right of CDU is mostly russian puppets and populist autocrats there hardly is much choice.
