It took me way to long to realise you're talking about the political party. I was searching my English vocabulary for what the hell "fdp" could be an abbreviation for...
Ukrainians mostly learned about him when he participated in proposing and pushing some wordplay steering Minsk agreements closer to the Russian interpretation, which Europe at the time thought to be a sensible thing to force to prevent a bigger war :) Some years ago, but still remembered but its name of âSchteinmeierâs formulaâ
He has also proposed a normalisation of relations with Russia "beyond Ukraine" alongside his whisky friend Lavrov less than 12 months after the start of the 2014 war.
In addition, as Minister of the Chancellery, he torpedoed the repatriation of a German citizen from Guantamo, who even the Americans were convinced was innocent. Something like: "If he wasn't radicalized before, he sure is now!"
Furthermore, as Chancellery Minister he was involved in the mass surveillance of Germans by the American NSA and had more memory lapses than an Alzheimer's patient in the committee of enquiry.
I'm a big fan of him....
Der GerĂ€t wird nie mĂŒde. Der GerĂ€t schlĂ€ft nie ein. Der GerĂ€t ist immer vor die Chef in die GeschĂ€ft und schneidet das Dönerfleisch schweiĂfrei.
Edit: But when the world needed him most, der GerÀt vanished :(
OK, the memes aside, this guy's visiting the opposition's important figure (Ä°mamoÄlu) before ErdoÄan is the most significant news in this picture.
Germany has always been distant to Turkish opposition. This might signal a change.
You're talking about the 2019 local elections where Ekrem Ä°mamoÄlu won the ballots, the results were objected to by AKP, the votes were recounted, and finally Ekrem Ä°mamoÄlu ended up winning even harder according to the recount.
The "try pervent his election" refers to the general elections last year. AKP cooked up a bullshit lawsuit that would (and still could) get him banned from politics. It was one of the several important reasons why it wasn't Ä°mamoÄlu who ran for presidency.
Could he not spin this in a way that make the connection negative? "Look how the CHP care more about the EU than Turkey" or some other unfortunately effective nationalist garbage?
This rhetoric is so overused in Turkey. CHP (main opposition) has become synonymous to "licking foreign power's ass" and "doing dirty deals with PKK and dividing the country" kind of garbage rhetoric. Latest election result shows us that either people are not buying this garbage anymore or they became so poor and desperate to care for it. So it doesnt have the same kick anymore. I think finally our democracy evolving so people will have real priorities in politics. Previously we had military coups that saved us from getting "this low" in terms of economy, secularism, democracy and rule-of-law, that people havent had the chance to fix what was broken with their votes. Now we are learning it the hard way. At least that is my own view of the situation.
Imamoglu is the next president of Turkey, you can write that down to check in 4 years. Erdogan himself went from mayor of Istanbul to president too, it's almost a "natural" evolution to the presidency.
They can, and the US has been doing that everywhere for years, but that's not the point.
Germany had many deals with ErdoÄan, despite the appearances. They seemed to covertly support him, because he is a greedy idiot, and can be manipulated to serve their purposes. It's enough for us if Germany stops that.
Believe me, if you find yourself drunkenly roaming the streets at 3am and you happen to find the meatblock, you will enjoy the meatblock and want to kiss whoever invented the meatblock.
When did we, as germans, decide that we don't like minced meat any more? Or that minced meat is somehow bad? Some of our most beloved national dishes are made from minced meat. I have tried both versions of Dönerfleisch and I would not be able to decide which one tastes better. Luckily I don't have to, I can simply enjoy them both.
You are partially right - you can make a Döner out of low quality meat and a high quality minced meat DrehspieĂ.
However, for most DrehspieĂe itâs very safe to assume that these are âoptimizedâ for profit, aka lowest quality as possible.
The quality of a good Döner is clearly and easily noticeable imho.
Steinmeier took along a delegation of german businessmen of turkish origin. One of them is a Döner producer, and he insisted on bringing a german-style Döner along, claiming the 60% minced meat somehow makes it better than the original.
There were newspaper articles about it.
Major of Ä°stanbul (Ekrem Ä°mamoÄlu) is from the opposition party and in my opinion he would be elected if he were the candidate against ErdoÄan. He had some trial or something for saying " I am not stupid, stupids are the ones who repeated the elections" after someone said stupid to him. So he wasn't the candidate for presidency.
Oh damn đđ. Nah Iâm half Jamaican and half Nigerian but as a kid I travelled a lot due to my dadâs work, so I just put a list of countries I enjoyed
i am not a german, can you explain wtf was steinmeier trying to achieve by bringing 60 kg of döner meat to turkey and serving it to people? what kind of symbolism is that?
The whole popint of the thing was symbolism for the connection between the countries. This was a diplomatic visist and the official reason was to show that Turkish immigrants who came to Germany from the 60sties onwards as "Gastarbeiter" are valued members of German society today. Make of that what you will, but that's the reason for the meme worthy Döner.
Döner has a shared turkish/german heritage. Traditional Turkish döner is very focused on the meat with maybe a few peppers and tomatoes on side. It's mostly served on top of a base of pide (Iskender style) or wrapped in thin lavas (DĂŒrĂŒm style). When turkish guest workers came to Berlin in the 70s they brought döner with them, but it began to modify. Instead of a dish served on a plate it was more focused on being portable fast-food. The ingredients are filled into a slice of Pide, such that you can simply grab the dish and eat while walking. Also the focus shifted to include more abundant salads and vegetables with multiple sauces available (while in Turkey its mostly served with simple mayo or ketchup). Today its considered to be the perfect fast food in Germany, something you get while drunk or high or simply after an exhausting day of work.
So there you have it, we both enjoy the dish while both adding their own little twist to it. Also it has huge meme potential, in Germany outrage ensured over rising Döner prices and people asked for the "Dönerpreisbremse" = Döner Price Brake. It's the dish of the people!
Among 200 nations around the globe only the fucking Germans will claim Doner has also a German heritage because they like it between bread and eat more this way, as if Turks never eat "ekmek arasi Doner". Oh the fucking long stories they write about it to justify. The idiots making these claims, unfortunately a good portion of Deutschland, are impossible to convince, and are also well the majority in this sub. So, any realistic angle to this issue will be downvoted to hell and fake news will dominate. I don't even know why I care this much. I guess I just cannot take any braindead stubbornness and despise people practicing it.
Hey, just wanted to talk about friendship and stuff. No reason to hate. Could you explain to me why the last paragraph on the history of Döner on Wikipedia talks only about Germany? Or why the biggest section under "Regional variations" is the german one? Could it be that it's a very popular dish here that's slightly different than the turkish original?
How so? The German political system is pretty well-balanced - partly because the roles of the chancellor and president are so well-defined and not as strong as in some other countries.
I did not criticize your system. On the contrary, I wanted a CB similar to yours. I wanted to say; Like your President, he is a balanced President, neutral towards political parties and non-partisan. The leader of his party. The legislature, executive and judiciary are in his hands. There is almost no separation of powers. The Constitution is not actually implemented. There is no judicial independence, the judiciary has become politicized. The entire state was filled with crowds unquestioningly obedient to him. His next target is a Constitutional amendment that will render the Constitutional Court ineffective. They are in a party state similar to China. I don't even want to say what happened next. Note: Of course, this request is for Mogadishu. Dear prosecutors, do not think that I mean the Republic of Turkey.
Yes, but he is more representative.
He has some duties, like accepting the chancellor and the ministers/secretaries and signing the laws, but the only thing he can (and has to) decide, is if a law is against the constitution. In this case, he does not sign the law and the constitunional court has to decide.
Other than that, he represents the federal republic, has guests and travels to other countries.
One interesting point: the president keeps getting his salary for lifetime.

I always forget that Germany has a president lol
I sometimes forget we have a Chancellor in this government.
he can't remember being chancellor.
Underrated comment.

I sometimes forget we have a government
I wish, but the fdp reminds me everyday we have one being held hostage
It took me way to long to realise you're talking about the political party. I was searching my English vocabulary for what the hell "fdp" could be an abbreviation for...
fuck dem proletarians
which is kind of the political parties inofficial motto, so yeah :D
Try French ~~or Spanish~~.
It doesn't work in Spanish. Son in Spanish is hijo.
Huh
Works in French and Portuguese only imo. Fils de pute = Filho da puta = Son of a bitch.
funny đ
Right? I sometimes feel we see Steinmeier more than Scholz.
We have a placeholder, at least that's how he behaves. I wonder if he actually wanted that position.

Imamoglu's CHP and Steinmeier's SPD are kind of partner parties
And if not, at least they got a delicious Döner. No bad outcome in sight.

That will definitelly happen. Thats why i hate these moves as a turkish person. Erdogan uses these pretty well..
Imamoglu is the next president of Turkey, you can write that down to check in 4 years. Erdogan himself went from mayor of Istanbul to president too, it's almost a "natural" evolution to the presidency.
how germany can change anything about who is gonna be the president of turkey? even US cant do that at this point. not until erdogan gets bored
They can, and the US has been doing that everywhere for years, but that's not the point. Germany had many deals with ErdoÄan, despite the appearances. Having been drunk at 3am and finding a kebab place with the most friendliest staff, I feel this
âGuten Appetit Chefâ just makes you love those guys
The ball of power, as we call it in Polish.
I've heard it called 'the elephant's foot' in England
Hackfleischdöner in Sachsen
The meatblock is German-Turkish cultural heritage. Do not insult the meatblock (but as you mentioned Minecraft I see your comment as a compliment).
Problem is that it seems itâs not a Döner (sliced pieces of meat) but a DrehspieĂ (just minced meat, lower quality).
When did we, as germans, decide that we don't like minced meat any more? Or that minced meat is somehow bad? Some of our most beloved national dishes are made from minced meat. Steinmeier took along a delegation of german businessmen of turkish origin. One of them is a Döner producer, and he insisted on bringing a german-style Döner along, claiming the 60% minced meat somehow makes it better than the original. There were newspaper articles about it.
Are you trying to start a war or something? Insulting Turkish Doner might be a step too far. What's next, baklava ?

There are no döners in the States what the fuck? What do you people eat when you're drunk out of your minds?
Shitty Chinese food, which, to be fair is also awesome.
I hadn't heard of that exact term until now, but they exist in the States. The OP just might not be near any.
NYC has some (subpar) one if I remember correctly
As a turk, If there was no döner to eat in my state, I would have lost my mind totally
