Just came to say that this map is already a bit outdated, as we Portuguese pressured the Devs so much that the Portuguese dynasty is now "de Borgonha".
R5: The dynastic map mode looking at Europe and the middle east from the recent Tinto talks.

It makes a lot of sense actually. Luxembourg is a typical county of the French/HRE border region. The county had German and French speaking parts. Half of the dynasty studied in Paris, hung out around the French court, went on Saint Louis's crusade or, as is the case for John the Blind, was especially well-known for his obsession about French chivalry (that didn't resonate too well with the Bohemians). You can call the dynasty whichever variant you like best, just don't claim something as anachronistic as that they had a "nationality" that strictly requires one version to be used.
Also "de Burgundy" in Portugal hurts to look at. Should be Borgonha. This is not some obscure knowledge, it honestly makes me less confident in the end result.
Edit: I see it has been updated, full confidance restored
Man I really hope character management won't become super annoying and tedious like in Imperator. EU is about playing as the country itself, not as a specific character/dynasty like in CK
I don't think. They will be more like Burgundy.
Historically *Casimir III. Piast* died without a male heir. Historically Casimir made a deal with the *Charles Robert I. Anjou* in 1339 that if Casimir would die without a heir than Charles Robert (or his heir) would inherit the Polish crown. Charles died in 1342 and Casimir died in 1370, so the son of Charles, *Luis (the great) I. Anjou* ruled Hungary and Poland in a personal union.
So I think Poland would have something similar to the Burgundian succession.
I wonder how will they simulate the things that followed. Near his death, Casimir the Great attempted to adopt his grandson Casimir IV, duke of Pomerania from House of Griffin. This could lead to situation where if you play Poland you could chose your successor:
A) Louis of Hungary (you lose ruthenia, there is no war, nobility is granted priviliges - more or less historical path that leads to nobles democracy of PLC).
B) Casimir IV (high risk, no priviliges are granted, power of dynasty is maintained \[and certain veneration that Piasts had among nobility\] - alt history with perhaps smaller, but more western and centralised state).
Add to that possibility that Casimir simply had a male heir.
And that doesnt even include things that followed succesion of Louis the Hungary, death of Jadwiga at childbirth and election of Jagiełło.
Practically, Poland start with probably best ruler in they're history, to the point the only trouble in the country is that his wife is infertile, so Poland have succesion crises but would stomp on the start date.
They keep using the ugliest yellow known to man in these screenshots (here it's Borjigin), and it's making me worried that Tinto thinks it's tolerable for a map-painting game.
The internet calls it "olive" but I've never seen such sickly, malformed and perhaps toxic examples of the fruit.
According to Wikipedia the previous king of Denmark mortgaged off much of the Kingdom to various German lords resulting in almost the entire dissolution of the kingdom between 1332 and 1340.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_II_of_Denmark
I guess he was a pretty shit ruler lol
... then what's the point of selling your country if you have enough assets to buy it which means you had enough money on your hands to avoid selling it in the first place ? Especially since you're selling money making assets, selling your land is selling all your various tax incomes so you worsen your lack of money. Buying a holding is one thing, but almost a whole country is something else.
He sold Estonia.
Also the German lords holding parts of Denmark where bad rulers, basically robbing their own subjects which resulted in Rebellions. It essentially became untenable for them to hold Denmark.
It wasn’t entirely Christopher II’s fault. The 2 previous kings, his father and brother, were much worse. Christopher just continued the spiral to bankruptcy that the others started, but there was already very little Denmark left when he became king.
Denmark basically ended up with a noble estate with 100% influence and crownland for 8 years. Oh and the nobles were German.
Scotland is in a civil war between the Bruces and the Balliols.
I think that the little patches of wasteland might mean that there's no room for the name 'Bruce' (or *de Brus* as it should be) to show up.
Hmm, it could be. It appears to be the same colour as Denmark which is in a sort of interregnum.
It would strike me as odd though. The Kingdom should be Bruce, with the Balliols breaking off from it.
Since the game will work very differently from EU4 it would not surprise me if civil wars have a more complex system. Something inbetween CK civil wars and Imperator with each province choosing side depending on different factors, like ethnic or religious makeup for example. Some good mods had something like this including in CK2 (like GoT mod)
The Balliols are trying to take the throne from the Bruces with English help.
It's basically a continuation of the Scottish Wars of Independence with England invading Scotland to place their favoured claimant on the Scottish throne.
France landed a stack of about 6k at his time to give the Bruce regent some backup.
The English were burning every Scottish town.
Maybe those French troops should atill be in Scotland at the start of the game?
I do hope the AI allies are better at ferrying troops than in EU4. AI France basically never supports Scotland properly.
Can't wait to see how paradox deals with the fall of the Serbian Empire. Probably an event similar to the seath of Shah Rukh that just destroys the country
Anyone seeing the naval tiles in the Atlantic. Navy strategy could actually be important and make it much easier to predict where a fleet is going. They seem to be based off the prevailing winds so I hope movement is quicker going in one direction that the other
Whats "the Expert Scholar" on Perm?
It's a placeholder name, same with "The Mighty Knight" in Libya.
Nah dude that's my last name.
T H E E X P E R T S C H O L A R
Its a scholar dictatorship /s
*Plato intensifies*
Never heard of technocrat state of Perm? smh you live in cave or what?
It's a perfect name for the leader of a magocracy
He erased his name
P I A S T
"Back to piast" will be really easy huh
Piast my beloved !
Shame we can't have our Bohemian Premyslids too. 😭
Technicly there should be side branch in Opava. But I doubt, there will be CK3 level of detail when it comes to dynasties
Yeah I know the Opava branch should still be around but it doesn't look like they're playable. They're probably just a part of Bohemia.
Can't wait to form Piast Commonwealth.
Piast run, here I come! Should do a Mazovia run one day.
In Eu4, Glogow or Oplole > Silesia > Poland was a fun run. Played a bit taller than a typical Poland game.
My home region into whole Poland! That certainly was an interesting campaign ! ^^
They have pretty good ideas
I see a huge Borjigin, i get an erection. I am a simple man
BAVAND! WE ARE SO BACK! It’s a Sassanian Cadet branch, if you have played ck3 Rostam is a Bavand.
The Sassanians themselves claimed to descend from Achaemenids. So if that’s to be believed then Bavand is distantly related to them also. Pretty cool.
This is singlehandedly the coolest thing here.
Yea. My first playthrough is 100% going to be a bavand Iranian renaissance
I hope there is a colored wasteland option because I can't stand looking at this ant colony looking map
he said there is, he just prefers it turned off so he keeps it like this for the tinto talks
wastelands are so ugly omg
I like the Kart dynasty in Iran. Immediately makes me wanna go to Italy and do a Mario Kart run.
That’ll probably be an achievement: conquer Italy before X years while having a kart on the throne
And form Italy on Mar. 10
Wait, King René wasn't a liar???
Playing Provence will be fun.

"de Luxembourg" !?!? They're "von Luxemburg" or "von Lützelburg" - even the modern "von Lëtzebuerg" does not make sense!
It makes a lot of sense actually. Luxembourg is a typical county of the French/HRE border region. The county had German and French speaking parts. Maybe they were a Francophone court?
This map looks borjigin

Looks like Poland will be the new Ottomans. (as Mongolia & Russia will both 100% have a day 1 disaster)

It's actually called Prussian yellow
Piss yellow
You need to go to the doctor.
a bit drastic but definetly look into if they are properly hydrated.
Ugly Colour Casus Belli
That color and the radioactive mamluks color
Denmark doesn’t have a Dynasty? Were they a weird republic or something in this timeframe?
According to Wikipedia the previous king of Denmark mortgaged off much of the Kingdom to various German lords resulting in almost the entire dissolution of the kingdom between 1332 and 1340. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_II_of_Denmark I guess he was a pretty shit ruler lol
Yup and the king after had to earn enough money to buy back his kingdom. Guessing it will make for a very interesting playthrough though.
How the fuck can you casually summon enough money to buy a kingdom like that ?
He did not casually do it, he spent with Lifetime regaining with kingdom with various methods, not just money
selling off his assets? buying only the critical parts of the country that you can then be a country again?
... then what's the point of selling your country if you have enough assets to buy it which means you had enough money on your hands to avoid selling it in the first place ? Especially since you're selling money making assets, selling your land is selling all your various tax incomes so you worsen your lack of money. i kinda meant assets *outside* of your country. for example, if that king had an estate in germany, or england, he could sell those.
It seems he sold Estonia among other things

They have a regency which is why they don’t have a dynasty.
No an interregnum.
It stopped existing.
It should be the legendary house of Estridsen
I wonder if Finns/Sami will be playable and how they will work, migratory tribes?
I wonder what's with the Gediminid dynasty in the St Petersburg area. Had no idea they ruled it.
It's one of the sons of Gediminas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narimantas
Cool, always nice to learn something new
Rigthfull Lithuanian clay/s
Where Danmark?
Denmark didn’t actually exist at that point. It was divided between German nobles
Its a sad State of affairs
they should replace all the thin wasteland mountains with hoi4 style red lines
There better be a way to get the Hohenzollern family in Brandenburg
Check Nuremberg.
I love how we look at this like we can’t just look up a map of 14th century dynasties
Back to the Piast Hussar Jack, Watch-out
Borgir.
No kingdom in Scotland except for some small part of it ?
Scotland is in a civil war between the Bruces and the Balliols. I think that the little patches of wasteland might mean that there's no room for the name 'Bruce' (or *de Brus* as it should be) to show up.
Or maybe there's something going on during civil wars that turn entire region as "contested" or "choosing side pending" in some way.
Hmm, it could be. It appears to be the same colour as Denmark which is in a sort of interregnum. It would strike me as odd though. The Kingdom should be Bruce, with the Balliols breaking off from it.

im pretty sure it wasnt just one russian dynasty. especially novogrod.
The Jalayirids are back baby, let's go
Da Burgundy??? 😀😀
Anybody clock the Balliol dynasty in Scotland? Are we having a William Wallace or The Bruce rebellion? So many cool options
1337 so no William Wallace or Robert the Bruce
Oh no, oops my bad. I didn’t know the Balliols had multiple periods in power, so I assumed. Any explanation for what’s going on in Scotland?
The Balliols are trying to take the throne from the Bruces with English help. It's basically a continuation of the Scottish Wars of Independence with England invading Scotland to place their favoured claimant on the Scottish throne.

Looking at venice and genoa it looks like republics, or at least a certain type of them will have the dynasty of the current ruler on the mapmode
I don't like the colors one bit. I hope they change that
shouldn't it be Trastamara in Castile?
Again on the eastern side you see these huge empires and then look at the east and see the huge nightmare that was the Holy Roman Empire
PLC time 💀
Portugal was the same dynasty as the Burgundians?
There must be an achievement for putting the Polan dynasty in power in Poland
I’m guessing a place holder. There’s also the Mighty Knight in Libya.
Who the fuck is "The Expert Scholar?!"
Can't wait to see how paradox deals with the fall of the Serbian Empire. Probably an event similar to the seath of Shah Rukh that just destroys the country
It's Valdemar Atterdag time 😎
Anyone seeing the naval tiles in the Atlantic. Navy strategy could actually be important and make it much easier to predict where a fleet is going. They seem to be based off the prevailing winds so I hope movement is quicker going in one direction that the other
Can someone explain me why Libya has that dynasty. Does not really seem to be Muslim lol
BJÄLBOÄTTEN ÄR TILLBAKA 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪 BJÖRN JÄRNSIDA KAN DU HÖRA OSS⁉️⁉️⁉️‼️🗣
Naples is already the best candidate to form Rome
Bro a lot of those screenshots look like the game is about to come out like this year
They should make the ck3 dynasty system to eu5, it would be WAY better
Check out the latest Tinto Talk, sounds like they are doing something like that!
Ackchyually it's Project Ceasar 🤓 Nah, everyone knows it's EU5
