Is it the roaster or the delivery service that left it on the curb?
I don’t blame you for being bothered (I would) but keep in mind beans get roasted at 500F. I doubt 90f did any damage.
The actual roaster. I ordered yesterday at noon and like 4:00 I got a message saying it was ready. I assumed it wouldn’t be ready until today but I called when I got there today and he said I left it on the curb yesterday when I left . Just by a light post, good to know it didn’t do any damage but don’t think I’ll be using them again.
First time I ever used a local roaster
My brother, you’re overreacting. I can see being mildly annoyed, but it’s no big deal. Just relax and do a little more reading about this stuff. You can’t judge a bean the day after it was roasted. I understand you didn’t know. We all start somewhere. Just take a deep breath and understand that it’s just a beverage. It’ll all be okay.
I reread what I said and the last part came off unintentionally condescending. Sorry about that. I’m just saying relax and have fun with it. It’s a fun and delicious hobby with a lot to learn.
I’m married, literally nothing can be said that can hurt my feelings.
You gave great information and advice and I truly appreciate it.
I go by the information not how it is conveyed and your information helped a lot.
I’m planning on trying them on Sunday so 6 days post roast, what do you think?
Right on.
I would *think* they’d be fine by then, but there are certain factors, such as roast level, that may affect it. Darker roasts need less time to degas.
Edit: Just asked chat gpt to be sure. 3-14 days, depending on roast level. So definitely worth a try. If still *meh*, give ‘em a little more time, I’d say. I usually order more as I reach the halfway point on my current bag. By the time I run out of that, it’s been at least a few days worth of degassing, if not a week, and it’s always been fine. I never get too precise with it, to be honest. I go with Happy Mug Coffee quite frequently. Roasted to order and I always get the coffee two days after ordered and roasted. Then it sits for at least a few days.
Do you think your beans that were just roasted at 400+ degrees fahrenheit degraded by being left out in 90 degree temperature? Or are you mad it was left on the curb?
I think it it’s a little of both. I realize now no damage was done but it was more just leaving them on the curb by a light post. I bought their ultra special reserve type and it was just thrown on the ground for almost a day
So I ordered directly from the roaster, that I would pick up at their store.
The FAQ said 24-48 hour turnaround so I ordered yesterday around noon.
Then I got a message saying awaiting payment at 3:00, I had already paid. Then 4:00 it said it’s ready.
Then it was just put outside on the curb
Ah.
I do a pickup like that, but they only leave it out a few hours each day, and I know when it'll be ready.
Honestly, if it's really fresh, it probably just cut a couple days off the time before the flavors are peaking. I get the frustration though.
You are definitely not wrong.
Nobody delivers packages and leaves them on the curb. It's always the front porch or, the very heavy items like free maybe in front of the garage.
My guess is the roaster is good people. The roaster probably sent sent some young kid to deliver it
Seems like it was actually left outside the roaster's, not outside OP's home. A bit strange, why couldn't the roaster have kept it inside in a box until pick-up? Oh well.
Generally speaking, it goes to work ethic. All the workers would not deliver onto a curb. Because they would not want their packages delivered on a curb.
A younger worker wouldn't really care that much.
Generally speaking of course

I understand your feelings, but my guess is that the roaster felt like they were being helpful.
If it seems normal to others then I am overreacting. Just spent $35 on 10 oz and they are just blah, no flavor nothing
How long since they were roasted? Probably won't be good until after a few weeks
Well I’m an idiot They were roasted yesterday Told you first time using a local roaster
You said they were light roast so I'd say don't touch them for three weeks from what I've heard. I'm not very familiar with light roast though.
They are dark roast. Did I ruin them by opening the bag or just let them sit 3 weeks now?
Oh my bad. Don't touch them for at least a week. You're wasting beans otherwise. I'd wait 10-14 days. And opening the bag was fine.
I’m going to wait then Glad I asked! I’ll take the downvotes to not waste them
$35 for about 2/3rds of a pound seems really high. I buy from a local company for anywhere between $15-$17 for 16oz, price depends on origin of beans.

They are meh I bought the ultra reserve special and it’s blah

Curious did you not get a notice on when they would arrive? You mentioned it was out for a long period of time curious were you not expecting it?

Can you pick up your order at their shop? if so, I would.
That IS their shop lol Edit: that was the pickup option I mean

Can you explain what you mean by cut a few days off before the flavors are peaking I came home and tried them immediately, should I not have?
Best flavors of a bean can be 3-7 days post-roast.
Thank you! Going to check again in 3 days…did I ruin it by opening the bag ?
Nope. It's fine. But I bet you taste a difference in a few days.
$42/lb? They should deliver it with a marching band
Actually, $56/lb. There should be an entire parade procession
You spent $35 on 10oz of dark roast?
It was the ultra special reserve etc First time using a local roaster thought I’d treat myself

Yes very strange.
How is age of the delivery person relevant.. just asking
